Butterflies were fun!

Kisun bounced through the grass, her blue eyes bright with glee as she skidded to a halt, quivering black nose inches away from the brightly colored insect. The rabbit stilled, long dark ears laid comfortably down her back, apparently utterly focused on the butterfly where it had paused on one of the vibrantly colored blooms.

Patterned wings opened and closed slowly, the bright little being creeping over the blossom for a long moment, and Kisun watched attentively…

…and then playfully batted the flower’s stem, sending the butterfly into immediate flight. Giggling madly, the rabbit eagerly bounced off to give chase. She had nowhere to be, nothing to be. Now was all that mattered, and now was fun.

Anyanka was having as good a day as she always had. Everything was so big and seemed to move so fast, she just spent her days trying to keep up with everything. Sometimes it felt like she would never understand this whole big 'outside the den' place, but that was fine by her.

It was certainly fun just trying.

She bounded over some grass, hopping along and humming to herself as she went. She noticed another creature, one that looked just like her, doing almost the same thing nearby. Happy, she moved toward this other rabbit, but paused because it seemed to be watching something.

Confused, she moved forward again, slinking carefully, ears flat back against her skull. Then the other rabbit was off and running again. What the hell?! Anya gave chase, going as fast as her little legs could carry her.

"What are you doing?!" she yelled, wanting in on it, whatever it was. She hadn't even see the butterfly.

Kisun, at first, did not notice the presence of another hare. Too busy was she enjoying the way the sun warmed ground fled beneath her paws and the wind streaking through her fur as she raced after the butterfly. Giddy with the plain fun of life, it was only after the other spoke that Kisun realized she had more company than a brightly colored bug.

“I’m playing,” she admitted freely, never too old to have fun after all. Why shouldn’t she bounce and sprint about like a little kitten? The world didn’t change just because she grew a bit bigger after all. “Butterflies,” she chirped cheerfully, and then skidded abruptly to a halt as her unwitting playmate settled on another of the flowers. Slowly now, like a predator stalking prey, she crept towards the unsuspecting plant.

“Like this,” Kisun said quietly, demonstrating as she snuck up on the flower, planning to prod it and dislodge the butterfly to chase once again. That this hare would or would not like to join her hadn’t crossed her mind, she was free to play too if she wanted but Kisun would play with or without her. Or maybe the pretty stranger, for now that she’d spared a glance she could see the way the other’s fur was patterned with soft colors, might have another game to suggest. If she wanted to.

Anya tilted her head.

"Playing?" she, of course, knew what playing was. She knew what it was, and she liked to play a lot. But she had never seen someone else doing it, or had any company for it.

Could one play in a group?

She decided to ask.

"Can I play too? I mean I know I can play but can I play at the same time as you, or do I have to find my own bug?" She wiggled her nose in thought, ears flicking forward.

She watched as the other demonstrated. It certainly looked fun enough. She made to join in, bouncing haphazardly and crashing right into her new companion almost immediately.

Kisun tilted her head right back at this fun stranger, mirroring the other comically as she spoke.

"Yes, of course you can play too," she chuckled. "It's more fun that way."

Hadn't she heard the saying 'the more the merrier'? Most games were done better with more people. Or if not 'better' exactly, at least more entertaining. Sometimes extra people didn't play very well, but it was still funny to play with them anyways.

She'd just lunged after the butterfly when her new playmate apparently did the same. But missed. With a startled squawk, Kisun found herself flat on the ground, the brightly winged creature fleeing out of reach.

"Aw..."

Anya had tilted her head the other way, to undo the mirroring so they were both tilting to different sides. She was very amused.

Before she had crashed into her new play mate, anyway. Well, even after, but it was a different kind of amusement.

Sitting up, her front paws on the other hare as she did so, Anya looked around wildly for the butterfly. It seemed to have fluttered away. She looked down at the squishy thing she was using as a support.

"Well that didn't work very well! I guess next time we should plan it a bit better. Or maybe playing alone is the best way to do it after all. Oh well, can't win them all, right?"

She moved back and then nuzzled her nose against the other's shoulder in an effort to help her up, not being too shy about all the contact. She didn't know much about 'personal space'.

As she became a living perch, Keena squirmed and then giggled slightly, flopping back down.

"Yes. Planning," she said, before giggling again. She'd gotten the wind knocked out of her, but that had been fun regardless. As her new friend nuzzled her shoulder, Keena rolled to her feet, shaking herself off slighly and causing her ears to flop from side to side before she perked them up.

"No no, we can still play!" she hastened to assure the other hare. Playing together was fun! In unexpected ways, true, but...but...but! "We just need to find another butterfly! Come on, help me look!"

Eagerly, she bounded off, sniffing at each and every flower, just in case a bloom might contain a new creature to chase. Bees weren't much fun, butterflies were much much better.

Anya looked at her, grinning from ear to ear. She could find butterflies easy enough when she wasn't looking, so how hard would it be to find one now? She nodded.

"Okay, let's find one," she nodded in return. She bounced up into the air, straight up, just in exuberance before she leaped right over Kisun and skittered around in a circle for no apparent reason other than to release some energy.

She had a lot of it.

"Hey wait!" She bounded after her, laughing, "or I'll just chase you."

Well that wasn't really a bad idea. She grinned, thinking it a good one. Charging, she made straight for her new friend, as if to ram right into her.

Kisun couldn't help but giggle at the other's antics when the hare bounced straight up, and then over her. Who knew she'd find such a fun friend today? She looked over her shoulder when she heard the laughing call to wait, then laughed herself at the other's announcement that if she didn't wait she'd be chased.

Now that sounded like fun!

"Catch me if you can!" Kisun challenged gleefully in return, zigzagging hastily to one side in hopes of dodging her new friend's charge.

Anya hooted and darted right by her, her charge too fast so she couldn't stop properly. Not that she even tried. She might as well just make one big u-turn at this point. Which she did. It was the 'long way around' for sure, and it put her well behind her target, but it was still better than stopping and losing all that momentum she had built up. In her mind, anyway.

She could make up a little distance, for sure.

"I can!" she yelled, though she wasn't off to a great start on that front. She would certainly do her best, though. Running as fast as her paws could take her, she charged after Kisun again, hopping along gleefully, her large back feet hitting the earth and kicked up a bit storm of dust in her wake.

Kisun giggled madly as the other zoomed right passed her, laughing so hard she nearly fell over. Luckily her new friend's long turn gave her enough time to regain her feet and then she was off again, zipping and racing through the grass, startling a few insects from flowers she sent bobbing as she bolted past them.

Instead of shouting back 'No you can't!' when the other yelled that she could catch her, Kisun twisted around herself, paws skidding on the grass as she tried to turn in a quick circle that nearly sent her sprawling. She didn't fall though, and with a gleeful shriek she leapt at the charging hare.

Now, most people would think that a head-on collision would be a poor end to a game of chase. But hey, someone was going to get pounced on either way, just because Kisun wasn't the one doing the chasing didn't mean she couldn't try doing the pouncing!

Anya was running so hard she had her eyes closed from the wind. She opened her eyes just in time to see a big, fuzzy blob right in her path. Well that's not goo-

She slammed into it before she had time to finish the thought, not even slowing down or trying to skid out of the way. She let out a laugh, even if the impact stole a lot of the air from her lungs.

A big cloud of dust kicked up around them as they rolled across the grasses, going a surprising distance before all the tumbling and skidding stopped. She was really dizzy, but laughing so hard she could hardly breathe. Now that had been a surprise.

"Caught you!" she wheezed, her voice an octave or two higher because of her inability to take in a proper breath.

Three cheers for the head-on collision game.

Kisun felt herself tumbling ears over tail, skidding alongside the body she'd just slammed into and giggling with any breath still left in her body. Which meant she wasn't really doing much breathing at all, since to giggle she had to somehow get more of the air that got knocked out of her back in. And when she giggled, it all came back out again.

But that had been so much fun! So worth it. Wow she was dizzy. Laying her watching the world spin was also fun.

"Caught...you t-too!" she managed to pant between giggles and gasps for air. Funfunfunfunfunfunfun. She liked this new friend. Even though she hadn't exactly gotten her name yet...but what did a name matter anyway.

"Let...let's play...again..."

In a minute or two though. She wasn't sure she'd be able to stand up right now. Whoo, fun.

"Wait, just a second," Anya panted, shaking her head. She was reeling from her decision, though it had been as much fun as it had been painful and disorienting. Maybe that's what made it so much fun, anyway.

She looked at her new friend, seeming to catch wind of her thoughts and realize they hadn't been properly introduced.

"My name is Anyanka, by the way," she said, grinning broadly. She puffed a few more times before she drew one big breath and let it out. Things seemed to be working correctly now, he lungs moving regularly.

"K-kay..." Kisun panted through her giggles when the other suggested that they wait a second. If she couldn't stop laughing that she was going to have to figure out how to stop breathing soon... that would certainly be interesting.

She'd nearly gotten her giggles under control when Anyanka finally introduced herself. And then Kisun thought suddenly that her friend must be a mind reader, and wasn't that the coolest thing. And then she was hysterical again, rolling over slightly as she curled up, wheezing and chuckling until she was all out of air.

And then finally she managed to take a big breath in. And then she held it for as long as she could, just to see how long that was. Of course, when she began to feel dizzy, she let it out and took another...and another and another.

"I'm Kisun," she finally announced, "And that was really fun!" Another giggle was necessary to go along with that addition. Of course.
