The sky was black and foreboding, making him feel trapped, more desolate than ever. Yahya Grant sat with his back pressed against the cold stone wall of the school building. He hadn't spotted any zombies yet, but he would probably still be accused of stupidity for sitting outside alone. He wasn't really alone, though, he had his baby squirrels and Columbus. The kitten was curled up in his lap, tense and unhappy, sniffling from a cold that he hadn't quite conquered. For that reason Yahya kept the baby squirrels safely away from the kitten, they were nestled in a pile of clean rags in the bottom of his backpack. The backpack was zipped open just so fresh air could get in without risking the baby squirrels falling out. They were so young and defenseless, Yahya wanted to make sure no harm came to them.

So far he had survived the zombie apocalypse, but not without friends, all of whom were... gone. Zeke had been made a zombie meal, and Piper had wandered off so that Yahya did not even know what happened to her. But, the one person who had been by his side this whole time, the one person who had protected him and who he had strived to protect in return... was gone. He was just gone. Yahya had no clue where he had wandered off to, and it was getting late. He'd been gone longer than ever before, and Yahya was positive Sue had only left with the cats... What if he was zombie bait? Why was Yahya sitting around LETTING his best friend die out there?

He was scared. Alone. Hopelessly lost. The student seemed unable to make himself do anything without the driving force of Sue's inspiration. He could care for Columbus and the baby squirrels, but that was because he had given himself to their cause (never mind that Sue had made him promise to take care of the kitten). Sitting around where he was... was doing nothing for him. He really should go look for Sue. What if he was hurt?

...And if he was a zombie?

Yahya paused in petting the kitten, glanced out across the schoolgrounds in concern. What would he do if Sue was a zombie? "Mmph," he whined softly, a hand raising to brush back his blue-green hair. He knew what he'd do, he'd try to take care of Sue, protect him even if he was one of the 'enemies' now. The reasonable, real Sue would hate him for it, but that was how Yahya was. He wouldn't abandon Sue, not even in Sue's death.

"C'mon, Columbus, we need to find Sue." His friend had been gone far too long, and Yahya was genuinely concerned. It was time to send out the search party (AKA: Yahya, Columbus, and three baby squirrels). He shouldered his backpack, cuddled Columbus protectively against his chest, and set out in search of his friend. Yahya only hoped he could find him before the zombies did. And if he didn't? Well, he'd do his best for Sue anyways.

Through thick and thin, Yahya would be a loyal friend until the end.
