This is a roleplay. HOWEVER, the idea behind it and the main reason for joining this is to improve on a certain area, describing body language.

It is encouraged that you focus on behavior, gestures and mannerisms instead of stating emotions or focusing on thoughts.
Instead of:
Her comment embarrassed him, and as she continued he looked up his face pleading to her to stop.
Try:
At her words his gaze went to his feet, causing his head to turn away slightly. His eyes could no longer meet hers, and he bit his lip when he felt the familiar rush of red tint rise to his cheeks. Apparently she hadn't noticed, as he had hoped, but the proof was that she was still speaking, retelling the embarrassing moment. Slowly he managed to raise his gaze to see her face. His head was still tilted downward, his eyes straining upwards to meet her eyes. His blush was fading but still visible as his lips parted slightly. he lightly bit them closed, but they parted again a moment later when the story started becoming more detailed.

Okay, it isn't great but there is at least one think in the 'try' that is show, not told. (He wanted to say something but didn't or couldn't.)

So, this is an exercise in descriptions, done as an RP instead of a game.

Plot

Okay, now that the basics are covered, lets move on to the plot.

This story takes place in our world, the world with humans that we know so well. It also takes place in a dimension full of all of the magical species in our fairy tales and novels, with so many more different species. However, in that world there are few if any being such as cows and plants are not plentiful. Thus, a natural order developed, with some species being forced to be the food and servants to the others based on strength instead of ability to function and contribute. Some species even gain nourishment and sustenance from the sun (slightly different from ours, less harsh and the warmth given is distributed even less than here) or other similar sources. The clans bred for food or service tended to develop the ability to feed off of the magic energy in the air, and eventually were able to survive solely off of loose magic energy and the magic radiated by their masters.

However, a strange series of events has occurred. First, images, dreams and hallucinations of story book creatures. Then shared hallucinations and internet chatter (soon followed by government chatter). A few group sightings, mass sightings of ripples of light lasting for almost a minute, the occasional person vanishing and monster appearing were next. Soon enough a bridge was found, and of course explored, into the other dimension. That bridge was for official, government probes. That bridge slowly grew while smaller ones could be found. Individual groups, paranormal researchers, and curious individuals from both sides found their own bridges and explored the strange phenomena.

Well, now we have this. Two worlds, overlapping in an area that is growing. Behind this line is a changed, new world, ahead is two versions of what has always been. The change is like a magical earthquake and tornado, the land shifts and changes. Nothing is ever gone, conservation of mass and all, but it might not have the same atomic properties, or might just be dismantled and separated or merged. Is is thought that there is more land on Earth than before, and assuming conservation of mass nothing is vanishing, but everything is changing. (Except living things, plants and animals. However plants in a desert that has been changed to a jungle climate, or a high mountain might not do so well.)

From the first opening, not just visible, but physical opening between the two worlds, the air has changed. Two different types of atmosphere have filled the wrong areas, then mixed. Those once allergic to the air of Earth can breathe, somewhat, which is good since that pillow is what their breathing machine was. Those that could barely breathe before might have a problem, but for the most part both sides of the rift are not suffocating from the changed air. However, the strange qualities of the air prevent all creatures from using their vocal cords.

Basics

-NO SPEECH
-No dialogue (unless a memory)
-Guild rule "be nice"
-Don't be an a** (RPCs can, RPers shouldn't)
-Gaia ToS
-Guild Rules
-Classes Rules

So yes, expressing emotions and using hand gestures are what is needed. While you can 'cheat' by saying ' X gestured that she wanted to find a pet demon dog', it isn't as helpful to you, nor as fun. While your RPC won't be able to think much differently from yourself, it does allow for interesting misunderstandings. Also, apart from language barriers reading and writing still work, it just might be hard to find paper that is still paper, or a pen that isn't a metal stake. Writing in dirt works.

Please, stay in character (well, apart from the obvious OOC, which needs to be clearly marked) and consider things like cultural differences. Even among humans holding a thumbs-up might mean ******** you or up your a** to someone in another country.

If you are from the other dimension, and fed off of magical energy, be aware that everywhere will have less of it around and you may have adapted to constant, steady, nourishment. The unchanged human world will have little, and the unchanged other dimension the most, but still quite a bit less than before. The ones that are solar powered should be high, since our world has thinned the natural sun filter, and the other world's sun light/heat wasn't as well distributed (more environmental extremes). Also, there are two suns now.

Yes, after the worlds merge they will have to re split. (The dimensions are connected now, but the mass of two planets can't be in a dimension that had only one.)This is a LONG way off and I doubt this RP will ever make it that far. However, if this dies, it does leave room for a sequel.

Profiles

Username: Metalic_Noodles

Character Name: Harriet Walters

Character Species: Human

Appearance: Short, dark brown hair, short enough to easily pass over her small shoulders hangs loosely from her head. Herr bangs are just an inch and a half shorter than the rest, framing her defined but soft face. She keeps it rather straight, but naturally it is lightly curly, and frizzy enough to get her cussing it out, which frankly doesn't take much.
A low v-cut collar stops just before slowing cleavage. Her blouse is a plain patterned cotton, with a mostly dark blue appearance. Over that Harriet sports a tight, dark purple jacket, the neckline resting a little lower than that of her blouse. A wide belt, with a shiny grey buckle further highlights her curves.
Hugging her hips is a pair of tight jeans that flare out starting gradually at her knees, but only easily noticeable about three quarters down her shin, hanging over her shoes. The jeans are a deep blue, with small marks, a thin and short mark from bleach, a drip stain from paint, and a couple of rips from wear and use. Her shoes resemble a mary jane with a thick 1" heel.

Talents, skills, knowledge, and possible powers: She knows how to get her way, with manipulation if she must, but she prefers to be much more blunt. She took trombone lessons from when she was 5 until her senior year of high school. She has 29 years of formal schooling and life experience.

Personality:
Harriet is quick to react, and cares little for any other options or judgments. She does consider consequences, but her actions rarely reflect this.

History: Harriet grew up in a house as the only child with only her father. She lived in a middle-class suburb, went to a fairly good school district, and lived in a 3 bedroom house with the third bedroom as her playroom.
In high school her blunt and brass nature didn't fit very well. As a result she found meaning in things other than popularity and pop culture. She chose her own books to read, music to listen to, and what grades were appropriate in what classes. She also learned to ignore anything she cared to, and perfected her manipulative skills.
After she graduated, she continued to college where she received a BS in Business Management. She met her husband through work, they bought a house in a nice neighborhood.
When the the worlds began to combined, her husband was on a business trip and she has been unable to contact him.

Other: Likes knives. She created a holster to strap an oddly shaped dagger to her right forearm, something she normally waits until she leaves the house to wear.

Character Name: Alva Fern

Character Species: Elf

Appearance: Alva has short slightly spiked blond hair that is so light that it could almost pass for white. He has cream colored skin and is slightly taller then most. He wears a dark green, short sleeved tunic that goes just below the waist. He has chocolate colored pants under that which are tucked into his leather boots. He wears a belt with hilts that hold his dagger, and a large sword.

Talents, skills, knowledge, and possible powers: He is a skilled fighter with his dagger and sword, as well as hand to hand combat. He can use a bow and arrow, but he prefers melee combat. He can control the element of earth, but he usually doesn't use it. He doesn't know much about relationships because he is more of a loner. The only education he has is what he got while he was in the military. He can read, write, and he knows some math, but his studies mostly focused on history and combat.

Personality: Alva is polite and respectful. He hides his emotions because he really doesn't know how to handle them.

History: Alva was taken into the army at a young age because that was the custom of his kind. He grew close to some of the other soldiers, but when they died he became reluctant to become to close to other people. He excelled at being a soldier and slowly moved up the ranks in the army. Username: EternalRaine323
Character Name: Tederich Raign
Character Species: Shapeshifter (island leopard)
Appearance:
Human
Tederich stands at a good six foot one (6'1"), making him fairly tall. His build is fairly slender with only slight glimpses of muscle here and there. His arms aren't built as if he attends a gym religiously, but they do look nice in a sleeveless shirt. His chest and abs lack that muscular definition most women crave, but that's not saying he's flabby, either. He just doesn't spend too much time working on toning himself. By far, his legs are the strongest and most defined muscles he possesses. All though a day at the gym isn't his idea of fun, he does spend plenty of time training himself. Being a shapeshifter, he is quite agile in his human form. To keep himself limber he does a lot of running and takes part in plenty of strenuous activities.

His hair is a sandy brown with streaks of a darker saddle brown scattered throughout. It flows thin and straight, and reaches the back of his knees when allowed to spill freely down his back. Most of the time he keeps it tied back in a tight pony tail. With it put up, it holds up just a few inches above his knees. Despite the length of his hair, his face helps keep him looking very masculine. His nose is a bit broad and takes the attention off his thin lips. There is a foreign shade to his skin, Hispanic of some sort, even though he has no Latin blood. All of his ancestors are of Germanic decent, and it shows in his rough accent. The sienna color of his eyes compliments his hair, and is his most noticeable feature. He spent too much time in his leopard form, and now cannot fully shift his eyes back to human. They are very catlike, and almost unnerving if one does not know what they're looking at. The strong definition of his chin finishes off his very male face.

Due to his extreme lifestyle, Tederich bares many scars all across his body. They are most prominent on his chest and arms. The most noticeable scars are the two on his wrist that make it look as if he was bound tightly. Generally he can heal wounds before they scar, but that is only if he shifts immediately after receiving the injury. If he doesn't shift within three days then scars may result.

Leopard
The average island(or clouded) leopard only stands a mere two to three feet (2-3 ft) from the ground to their shoulders. However, Tederich outdoes that by a lot. In his leopard form he stands a good three and one half feet (3 1/2 ft) at his shoulders. His eyes are the same as they are in his human form, a nice shade of sienna that sparkle when the sunlight hits them just right. He can be recognized by the tan fur dotted in large brown spots with black edgings around them. There is one large spot around his left eye. The spot trails from his eye to the end of his snout and bleeds into the black of his nose. If the extra large leopard doesn't give it away, there are two bald rings of skin around each of his forepaws where his scars are as a human.

Talents, skills, knowledge, and possible powers:
He can shift, at will, into an island leopard. However, it hurts due to the stretching of muscles and breaking of bones. Since it is so painful both ways, after he shifts back into his human form he requires recovery time. This can last anywhere from four to eight hours depending on how long he was shifted and if he sustained any damage. Shifting moves everything back to where it was before the shift, he can heal some injuries by shifting. There is a time limit on this, though. After three days, if he doesn't shift more serious wounds will scar permanently. Not all wounds heal from shifting. Chances are he wouldn't be able to heal his throat being torn out or any other life threatening affliction. His body can withstand quite a beating, though. Falling from higher altitudes is not as dangerous as it would be to a human. He is less likely to break a bone than most others, and he heals faster even if he hasn't shifted. It's not a huge difference in the speeds, but something that would take a week to heal would only take him three days. Tederich is also more agile, and can run a bit faster than the average human.

During his running he is quite observant. He is quite knowledgeable about the lands around him, or at least he was. Climates are something he knows well, and because of it he made a better adjustment to the merge than some others did. He knows what sort of critters thrive in certain environments, and he knows how to avoid and/or dispose of quite a few of them.

Personality:
Tederich can be aggressive and fairly strong willed. He prefers to put up a fight and likes to get one in return. People who can pose a challenge for him are usually the best company. Competition is something he enjoys, and he does what he can to create a competitive environment. Losing is not one of strong suits, and he is not likely to give up without a fight. Never in his life has he admitted defeat. Generally he just works his way around the loss. He pretends like it never happened, or he cheats his way into winning. No one ever claimed him to be an honest man, and he's never said it.

When it comes to leading it's a habit of his to sit back and let someone else take control, but he can take the lead if need be. He tends to argue a bit, but rarely takes anything too seriously. However, despite his semi-carefree demeanor, he can be controlling and hard to dominate. He'll press the restrictions set on him as far as they'll go. Rules and limits are simply obstacles to be explored and overcome to him. Tederich has little patience for a stubborn boundary. He will do all he can to move passed anything in his way as soon as possible. This includes, but is not limited to, deception and even violence.

History:

Tederich grew up as the third oldest child in a group of seven. All were born of both the same mother and father. His family lived in an out of the way village that consisted of only six families, a doctor, one teacher, and a storekeeper. Still, even though they are a small community, they do fairly well off. Their major export and mode of living is cotton. They spent most of their time tending to the crops. Even the children helped out. There were a few livestock that needed looking after, and the older children were charged with that. So, when he turned sixteen, it only made sense that Tederich be sent with the local caravan off to trade in the nearest city. It was only supposed to be a short trip, and no one suspected anything dangerous. Everything went just as uneventful as planned. In fact, it went so well that later he was put in charge of the caravan. He was twenty at the time.

Every time he took a trip into the city, no matter what city it was, he always managed to find himself a couple of people to have a bit of "fun" with. He frequented some pretty hardcore clubs, and managed scarring himself quite often. The scars on his wrist were a result of being bound on one of his nights out. Once his dirty little secret was discovered he lost a great deal of respect from the villagers. Some avoided him completely because of it. If it wasn't for the fact that he knew almost nothing but farming, he probably would have moved into a surrounding city and settled down. However, not every villager was as closed minded. The two men that traveled with him became close to him. They were almost inseparable, and they were the best friends any man could ever ask for.

Years later and just days after the discovery of the first bridge, on one of his usual trips to the city, Tederich and his two companions ran across a wild cat. It seemed feral, and they did their best to avoid it, but it followed them. When the stopped for the night they took the proper precautions, even going so far as lighting a ring of fire around their camp to keep the beast out. It managed to snuff out the fire while Tederich and one of the other men slept. The cat killed the man who sat on watch and snuck into the tent. Before it got in, though, both Tederich and his friend were woken by the noise. They both managed to subdue the creature and kill it, but not both of them sustained quite a bit of damage. This attack left both men scarred, but with Tederich's risque lifestyle, it really didn't make a difference for him.

As soon as the sun rose both men turned back to the village, managing to avoid any other danger. The villagers were angered by their return before trading the goods, but the boys promised to head out the following day. Sadly, that did not happen. Tederich and his friend began exhibiting some fairly abnormal symtoms, such as fevers and growing extra hair. Before the day was over both men took the shape of the leopard that had attacked them. Out of fear, his friend fled from the village. Fearing the disease was contagious, the villagers chased Tederich out as well. Tederich, at the age of twenty-nine(29) has been traveling on his own for about two weeks know. He is unsure where his friend has gone, but is hoping he is doing as well as he is.

Other:
Pain is an obsession of Tederich's. He's a masochist of sorts; enjoying to stretch his own physical limitations. It makes him stronger in his own eyes. As mentioned earlier, boundaries mean little to him. Pain is merely a limitation that can, and will, be overcome.

Harriet had heard the rumors, that shortly after the change hit an area food would die out. Talk was starting to surface, about eating the creatures from the other dimention. Politicians were using any transportation they could to get as far from the spreading merge as they could, while spreading talk of diplomacy with the invaders. From the descriptions she had heard, the hardest hit areas for food shortages were the ones that had the most drastic geological or climate changes.
The merge had hit her town a day and a half prior. She was one of the few people of the area that remained, but groups from three towns closer to the merge had been caught in the rapid change due to traffic. While there was yet too be any rumor that the line of change couldn't be crossed, it was easy to assume that mode of transportation changes would prevent anything simple.
Now, she wandered through what used to be the nice suburb her house was located in. It looked like rock had grown like mold or fungus, the change was apparently in a rock mood. It was quickly becoming clear that this area was going to get a lot more desert-like. The plants were isolated, the rock was hot to the touch at just 11am, and where the buildings had existed were now plots without protection from the elements, and without anything to absorb water or hold dirt in place. She was grateful that her clothes and knife had been unchanged, but with each step she become more and more concerned for what may have come of her parents and husband. It was odd that the strange creatures had yet to be seen in the area, but she believed that that time would come soon enough.

((Okay, your profile is up Likle, but the military would have had to have been elven-only and part of an elven settlement unless you can explain how it would have otherwise occurred.)))

Alva's face contorted how it always did when he was confused as felt the wind flow through his hair. He neared the bridge, cautiously stepping forward and staring into the new world. His eyes scanned the landscape suspiciously as he gripped his sword. He walked through the bridge and into the world that was similar, yet way too different to be familiar.

He walked silently down the street as his ears picked up a slight sound. It was the sound of someone walking towards him . She didn't seem to have seen him yet so he hid in the shadows. Despite the fact that he was no longer a solider, he still had the instincts of one. He cautiously peeked around the corner. She was a ways off, but if she had good eyes she would be able to see him. He could tell that she was human and she was from this new world that he was in. She was dressed much differently then any humans he had seen before. His hand released the sword and moved to the dagger. At this distance throwing a dagger would be more effective if she decided to attack him.
