Far within the depths of the Pound, in one of the lesser used sitting rooms, a brown cat sat in a comfortable chair, her legs crossed and the foot of the leg resting on top jiggling anxiously in the air. She was reading a magazine, some vapid thing about spring fashions or incredibly obvious sex secrets, or some such drivel. Her toes and face were warmed by the blazing fireplace directly in front of her, a luxury that was common in the building during these winter months.
Abbey had always been the center of attention, a social creature. Recently however, she had been uprooted from the town she had lived in for most of her life. She hadn't exactly had a home there, as she had been shuttered back and forth between various foster homes, but it had been the same town. She knew the area, and more importantly, she knew the people. She had barely spent any time in her "homes", opting instead to hang out with her large group of friends.
In this new place however, she didn't know anybody, and she didn't know exactly how to go about meeting them. The girl let out a quiet sigh as she flipped to the back of the magazine and closed it. She wasn't very happy here, not at all.

Currently residing not much further from the relaxing feline, a member of the fox family was doing his most favorite hobby. Attatched to the back of the structure layed the small greenhouse. It too was small and often neglected as he'd came to find since not many others were advocates to the flora species as he was. But that didn't bother him. Just meant more room for more plants he desired. Without the disapproval of another.
A warm and content grin was permenet on his face as he slowly watered the freshly maturing teen poinestta's. Their state was superb and gave them a polished look. Almost like they were fake. The petals were so plush and full with happiness. Brilliant turquoise eyes gazed at them with a fathers affection. How he loved plants. Lush auburn curly locks rested on his left shoulder as his attention directed downwards while pouring a petite watering can atop the adolescents. Bangs began to creep down from behing pushed back, causing them to dangle and frame his face. But it gave no bother to him. These would look wonderful in the main rooms, once they're of age. he thought to himself with a hint of pride.

Abbey gave the stupid girl magazine one more shot, flipping through and finding herself more interested in some of the ads than the articles. She had always been amused by perfume ads in particular. They always tried their hardest to make the perfume look erotic, and whether they failed or succeeded, it was always entertaining.
Finally though, she gave up entirely, and tossed the magazine to the side onto a small oak end table. Unsure of what to do with herself, she began pacing back and forth across the room. This continued for several moments until she got fed up with this as well, and fled from the room in irritation, opting for the fresh, cool air outside.
The scent of snow was in the air as she strolled across the grounds, but she didn't mind, always having been a fan of winter. Nobody else seemed to be out here, though... Her folded ears perked up a little as the light from what appeared to be a greenhouse caught her eye, a silhouette evident inside. Hopeful for someone to talk to, she approached it.

Once he was satisfied with their quenched thirst, he gave them one last gaze, and nodded with a content sigh. Moving slowly down the aisle he came to some rather exotic looking budded flowers. Placing a gentle gloved finger under one of the tightly clamped bulbs he smiled. "And when shall you blossom, little one?" a chuckle rumbled in his throat. Rising back up he continued down the aisle. The greenhouse was a bit muggy, but he didn't mind so much. It was to keep his darlings alive, anyway. His long tail swished calmly along the ground as his white boots tapped softly on the stone ground. Eyes fixated on the plants before him, he was almost in a trance or another world of his own. A hand dropped to his belt to idly stroke a Poke ball that was attatched. He pondered letting his precious Maybelle out. But she might eat the vegetation. Pondering on the subject, his other hand fiddled with his lip ring.

As the feline drew closer to the greenhouse and the silhouette became more clear, she could identify the figure as a tall, brown fox. He seemed to be tending to the plants, which made sense. What else would one do in a greenhouse, after all?
She hesitated for a moment, the tip of her long tail twitching in anxiousness. 'What's wrong with me?' she wondered. She had never had any difficulties in approaching people before.
Well, there was no use standing out here all night, and the greenhouse did look quite inviting... She had not worn a coat, and was beginning to get a chill. Gathering her courage, she walked up to the building and gently pushed open the door, stepping inside amongst the greenery.

But as he began to balance out the possibilities of what his dear friend might do he felt a stray chill, and his cuffed ears perked when a faint sound could be heard behind him. Letting his tail stop swishing to lie limp he turned first just his head to his left, which proved to be useless in seeing who had entered due to curly locks guarding his view. So he followed thru and turned his who being to the side and allowed his glowing eyes to lock on that who had entered. A very cute female. Indeed she was. Though she seemed a bit nervous or coy. Giving a relaxed smile, he nodded to her as she gingerly came into the faux rainforest. "Looks like I'm not the only one up late." he teased.

She had hoped that the other would be the first to speak, and she was pleased when this was indeed the case. The feline had been feeling uncharacteristically lost for words.
"Ah, yeah," she replied lamely, one hand coming up to rub the back of her neck. "I'm usually a bit of a night owl, used to drive people crazy when I lived with others." A wistful smile flashed across her face at the thought of better times, but she quickly chased it away and focused on the present.
Realizing suddenly that she had been lurking in the doorway and letting out the precious heat, she moved further into the greenhouse and shut the door carefully behind her. This done, she moved closer to her new acquaintance. "What brings you to such a strange place this late at night?" She inquired.

Dusting his gloves together he smiled kindly to her. Looking to the aisle his attention was previously glued to he gave another fatherly expression to them. "The night is quite comforting, yes?" his full tail swayed gracefuly, the tip curling at random times. "I too find myself restless at times. Coming here helps me sort things out." he chuckles. Bending down to retrieve a stool from underneath the aisle he politely gestures the seat to her. Standing back up, pushing back his bangs, he scans around the inside garden and takes a deep breath. "Plus. This is my sanctuary. I'm usually always here, since I don't really affilate with many others. Aside from maybe two others."

Comforting? Abbey supposed that it was comforting in a way, but mostly it felt more free, less confining than the depths of this huge building filled with stray children, teens, and even adults who just couldn't seem to move on yet. The air out here was fresh and crisp, and felt good against her skin.
"Oh, thank you," she said with a smile, and sat down neatly on the stool. This put her on eye level with the greenery, and she was surrounded by the scent of green leaves and blossoming flowers. For a few seconds the feline closed her eyes and inhaled, taking pleasure in the scent.
"I just moved here," she replied, biting her lower lip slightly. "I don't know anybody at all."

Watching her for a moment, he walks to the aisle again. His finger's played along the stem of a pristine white petuna. Taking a pair of trimming shears that rested on the table he gingerly cut the petuna from the rest of the pack. Lifting it to his muzzle, he gave a sniff. It had seen many days and it was just ripe enough for plucking. Turning to her, he bent his back so as to present the flora to her. "Well I can be your first." his bright eyes watched her curiously.

Her first friend in this strange, new place? She liked the sound of that. The feline was taken aback a bit by the gallantry of the fox before her, but she quickly recovered.
"Thank you," she said softly, and took the proffered flower. Holding it up to her nose, she deeply inhaled the scent. "It's beautiful," she said to him, sounding pleased. "Are you always this nice to random girls who wander into the greenhouse?"

"Only to the ones I like." his smile remains constant. As he didn't have many friends of his own, it was nice to make aquantaince with someone who wasn't "over the top" and calm. Since he himself was rather mello. Straightening up he rested his hands on his hips, a finger or two running along the side of his belt. "Do you like plants too?" it would be nice to find someone who shared the same hobby. So far he hadn't met anyone, except a rather mysterious fello, who had bestowed upon him blue roses. But he was to keep that a secret. A finger began to stroke idly along the side of the ball that was attatched to his belt.

Abbey felt her cheeks flush slightly, and was rather annoyed at herself for it. She wasn't used to anyone being this polite and geneltmanly, certainly not towards her.
"I've never really thought about it," she answered honestly. "I was always too busy making friends and being around them. I didn't really pick up many hobbies. That's probably why I'm so bored now that I'm stuck here." Looking up at him and adjusting her blue hat, she smiled. "I like this though. It's peaceful here."
Her eyes slid closed, and she leaned back comfortably... Only to realize she was sitting in a stool, and there was no back to lean onto. With a sharp yelp she tumbled onto her back in the dirt.

Nodding as she explained her situation, he grew an understandment. "Social butterfly, hm?" his tail swayed calmly, but started to slow as he watched her ease back. Eyes widening and head cocking to the side at her behaviour, he was quite alarmed as she toppled backwards. Ears perking up he quickly moved towards her, kneeling down. "Are you alright?" he asked, a bit confused by what just happened. His arm slid underneath her small frame in attempts to support her.

"Oof..." was the girl's reply, as she was hoisted slightly off the hard, cold ground and onto the fox's arm. "I'm alright..." She added, when he continued to look at her with concern and bewilderment. Only her pride had been injured.
"I... Suppose it might be a good time to ask what your name is?" The feline couldn't help but feel slightly awkward in the arms of someone whose name she didn't know.
