It was a typical winter afternoon in Vargash; the streets were covered in snow by now, and most residents were forced to wear heavier clothing in order to ward off the chill. School had gotten out not too long ago, and Shade Flereous found himself walking home, knapsack on his back. The boy had his hands shoved into the front of his hoodie, where he was clutching a small green spark. Nyx had yet to emerge yet, but young impling was waiting patiently - he knew that it was bound to happen eventually and that he just needed to give the essentic a little time.
The boy stopped suddenly as he saw that his usual route home was blocked - apparently, there was some kind of construction going on. Who the hell did construction in the middle of winter?? 'I guess I'll have to go around...' The boy wasn't fond of taking alleyways to get home, but he knew the area well enough to find his way home. Soon, he was taking an alternate route that his mother had shown him years ago when they'd first moved to the area - the alleyway would take him to another street, and he could just go around the construction before continuing on his way home.
However, an odd scent caught Shade's nose as he entered the alleyway - it was a familiar, metallic smell. 'Blood...?' The boy considered turning around for a moment, now nervous - the scent of blood wasn't normally a good thing. But...what if someone was hurt? They may need help! After a few more moments of pondering, the boy decided to press forward cautiously. He stepped lightly, not wanting to make noise as he made his way through, the smell getting stronger.
What the boy wasn't expecting was that he'd know the person who the blood belonged to; this turned out to be the case as he spotted a familiar, redheaded man. "K...Kaosu...?"

That did NOT just happen.
Kaosu stumbled through the streets of Vargash, clutching his left shoulder. Crimson leaked from between his fingers. His head swam from loss of blood. No way. He had gone and gotten himself shot. And for what? That stupid spark? Exhausted, he sunk down against the wall of an alley, confident that he would be able to hide out for a while. If he remained conscious. Frankly, after that embarrassing scene, he was not sure he WANTED to remain conscious.
He had been careless. He had been stupid. He had made the mistake of trying to navigate a massive shopping center in the middle of holiday season. Kao always had trouble with large groups of people, and this crowd proved to be particularly… rabid. A woman hunting sales for her children bumped into him, knocking that infernal spark of his out of its bag. It landed among the presents of a “Meet Santa” display. Naturally, he went over to retrieve his property. An “elf” spotted him and thought he was trying to take one of the paper gifts. The fool insisted that the redhead allow him to search his things. Like he REALLY would bother stealing some empty cardboard boxes! Kao refused flatly.
To make a long story short, an argument started, children cried, and Saint Nicholas himself came over to investigate the situation. Mr. Claus tried to end the ordeal once and for all by making a grab for Kao’s spark. Kao dodged. By some horrible twist of fate, the man instead managed to seize Robert Lynd’s concealed pistol. AND its trigger.
BANG.
Thankfully, the gunshot startled the Christmas crew. They backed away. Swearing colorfully (yes, in front of the kids) as red splattered his clothes, Kao managed to slip off despite his fresh wound before mall security arrived. Now he was alone, injured and frustrated. What an absolutely unbelievable pain-in-the-a**-and-the-arm fiasco.
Sighing heavily, Kao tensed when the sound of footsteps caught his attention. Warily he sat up, reaching for his weapon. He relaxed as a kid drew into view. With his mind clouded it took him a moment to recognize the other, ”If it isn’t Shade. Fancy running into you again.”
ooc| Sorry for the lameness. XD I'm so lazy. OTL I hope that Christmas in some form exists in EBI. I know its far fetched. Let me have my strange fun. [/shot]

"W...What..." From what Shade could see, it looked like Kaosu had been shot. Why, exactly, he'd been shot, the boy didn't know. Perhaps he'd pissed someone off - honestly, that seemed like the most logical explanation at the moment, considering the fact that most people didn't really go around getting their asses shot.
"W-What happened to you?" The boy made his way over next to Kaosu; the wounds still looked like it was bleeding pretty badly. Hell, he might die at this rate. "W-We should g-get you somewhere else! Y-You're hurt pretty b-bad!" Should be take him back to his place? Or a hospital? The boy knew a bit of first-aid, but nothing that would help with damage that was /THIS/ bad! "We...should get you t-to a d-doctor."

Today really was unbelievable.
First he had somehow been gravely injured by a fat man with a fake beard in a red suit, and now he needed help from some random kid. Kao had fallen to an all-time low, hadn’t he? Thank god he never had much in the way of pride, or it would have been smoldering. ”What happened? You don’t really want to know…” More like I am not going to tell you. No way am I ever telling ANYONE. The red head for the most part wanted to be left alone to sulk in his shame, but Shade was right. Maybe he ought to deal with that bullet in his shoulder. Otherwise he would not make it to Christmas.
”No doctors,” Kao stated flatly. Absolutely not. He had no money and no name. Public health care would be more of a pain than his bleeding wound. ”I… I can treat it myself. But not out here in the cold. Do you know somewhere I could go?”

Shade hesitated for a moment before saying, "I could...t-take you back to my a-apartment." His mother wasn't home and wouldn't be until tomorrow, so he could probably get away with it, so long as he cleaned up after. "Can...you s-stand?" The diminutive boy reached out, intending to help Kaosu up. "It's not too far from here...and w-we have a first-aid kit..." Hopefully, Kaosu wouldn't mind cats...though that was probably the last thing that the impling should've been worrying about at the moment.
"C'mon, we s-should hurry..." Before Kaosu lost anymore blood or something else happened. Shade didn't know what had happened but he assumed that it had been something bad.

Kaosu remained silent for a long moment, debating what he wanted to do. Should he follow this kid home? It was cold. He was badly injured. Shade could hardly be considered a threat, so it was probably safe. No matter how he looked at it, accepting the offer seemed like a good idea. "I would appreciate that," he replied evenly. Gingerly taking the boy's hand, he struggled to his feet. His stomach lurched and his mind turned cartwheels, but he managed to maintain his balance. Okay, so maybe he had lost more blood than he had thought. Maybe a bit too much for safety.
"Yes, hurrying would be nice. Lead the way?" He could not bear the thought of passing out outside, and his body readily threatened to collapse. The worst possible end to the worst possible day.

"I c-can help you walk, if you n-need it..." Shade said as he began leading Kaosu out of the alleyway and onto the street. He moved as quickly as he dared, though that wasn't very fast, considering the fact that he didn't want to hurt Kaosu. Briefly, he was reminded of when he'd first met the redhead in Saffron - it appeared as though the blank impling would be able to repay Kaosu after all, though the boy wished that he could've done so with simpler action. He didn't want to be responsible for someone's death after all. "J-Just tell me if you're g-gonna fall over."

Help him walk? Kaosu's pride balked at the mere thought of it. It was already shameful enough that he was allowing some random teenager to help him out. His dignity had endured enough damage for one day. "I'm fine. I've lived through worse on my own," he pointed with his good hand to his left eye and smiled wryly. "This is nothing. So don't get scared, okay, kid?" The redhead followed the imp mindlessly, paying to attention to his surroundings. He was completely focused on keeping his balance, keeping steady, and keeping his exhaustion hidden. Hoo boy, he had not lost this much blood in a long time. It felt almost nostalgic.
"I'm injured, not drunk. I won't fall, I promise. <3"

Don't get scared?! Kaosu was bleeding all over the place, and he was telling him not to get scared - honestly, that was rather difficult to do at this point. Still, Shade nodded, leading Kaosu straight to the apartment building and he and his mother lived in. By some miracle, the boy managed to get Kaosu up to the apartment without running into anyone and ushered the redhead over to the couch so that he could sit down again.
"I-I'll be back in a second." he said before disappearing into the bathroom to fetch the first-aid kit. While he was gone, Gidget got curious and hopped up onto the arm of the couch, mewing at the apartment's newcomer. She sniffed at Kaosu curiously and mewed again before blinking up at the redhead with green eyes. A few moments later, Shade was in the living room again with a white first-aid kit.
"H-Here, j-just...tell me if there's anything else you n-need."

Absently, between worrying about remaining conscious and watching where he stepped, Kaosu wondered what was running through Shade’s mind right now. His encounters with the kid had not been exactly normal, had they? First he had scared the boy thoroughly with his teasing. Then they had run into his father. And now, here they were, attempting to deal with a gunshot wound. Not the most typical of relationships.
”By all means, take your time,” the Hunter purred sarcastically, sinking onto the nearest couch. He resisted the urge to let his exhaustion take hold of his system. He needed to deal with his injury. THEN he could pass out. Just hold on a bit longer, eh?
A mew drew him out of his thoughts. Blinking, he finally noticed Gidget standing next to him. A cat? How… absolutely cute! Almost amused, he allowed her to sniff at him. Gently, with his healthy arm he reached over and scratched behind her ear. He completely forgot his tough guy act, entranced by those adorable green eyes.
So engrossed was he with the kitty that he almost forgot about Shade. When the impling spoke, he started despite himself. ”Ahh, thanks. I should be good, but stick around in case I need some help, yeah?” With that he finally turned his attention to his bleeding shoulder.

Needless to say, Gidget was quite pleased with the attention she was receiving from the redheaded man. She began purring and rubbed her head up against Kaosu's hand as he scratched her ear. The cat blinked, her ears flicking as Kaosu's hand left her head and she began to watch as the man started tending to himself. It was a rather interesting sight for Shade - Kaosu had never really struck him as an overly gentle person. The guy /HAD/ helped him before though, so maybe he should give him more credit.
"Alright..." He wasn't about to leave a bleeding guy alone in the living room anyway. That seemed like a recipe for disaster, quite honestly. "I can...get you b-blankets if wanna sleep after..." The boy figured that Kaosu may want to rest after - he could only imagine that the redhead had been through hell today. "We might have some extra pillows too."

So. Flipping. Cute.
Something cold in Kaosu melted every time he encountered a cat. Gidget was no exception. Her purring… her rubbing… her curiosity… For a few precious moments, stroking her seemed almost more important than fixing the potentially fatal gaping hole in his arm. Almost. The redhead could feel himself fading. Fast. If he did not deal with the bleeding soon, he would not exactly be able to play with this kitty much longer, would he? Sighing, he dug through the first aid pack for some kind of antiseptic and bandaging. Luckily the bullet seemed to have gone in one end of his shoulder and out the other, so he did not have to worry about digging it out. All he had to worry about was infection and his quickly dropping hemoglobin levels.
Acting as though he had gone through this process a thousand times before, he cleaned out his wound and wrapped it tightly, applying pressure to hopefully stop the leaking. He would have preferred stitches, but he did not exactly have access to a suture kit at the moment. Ehh, it would be fine. Gunpowder cauterized wounds, didn’t it? ”Thanks… Are you sure it’s okay for me to stay here, kid?”

Shade watched as Kaosu fixed up his shoulder, staying near in case the redhead needed any help. The older man seemed to have everything covered though - perhaps he'd dealt with things like this before? The young impling hoped that this wasn't a regular occurrence with Kaosu as his overactive imagination got images of thugs breaking into the apartment. He really needed to stop playing so many video games.
"Yeah, it's fine..." the boy said in response to Kaosu's question. "My Mom won't be home tonight..." Actually, she probably wouldn't be back until late the next day. Her boss seemed to enjoy giving her even more shifts as Christmas approached...he only hoped that she'd be able to get that day off. It had been a while since they'd had a proper Christmas. "I could...get you something to eat, if you want...it might help to replace some of the blood you lost."

Kaosu did not care what Shade thought of his nonchalant behavior. The kid should have guessed by now that he was not exactly your average guy. Gunshot wounds were a regular hazard in his life. Of course, so were cats. The redhead was not exactly sure what attracted him to them so, but they always turned into a distraction. His wound treated, Kao almost cheerfully reached for Gidget, pulling her into his lap.
”Well that’s convenient,” he replied in an even tone. ”And what about you? Are YOU alright with my staying here?” He was not exactly sure if the imp had forgiven him for scaring him entirely. Considering the kinds of things they discussed that night… Kao spending the night might turn out a bit, um, awkward. ”As for food, that might be a good idea. Do you have anything high in iron? You know. Seafood, nuts, liver.”
