Akua sighed as he settled down in the shade of a tree, sides heaving. He'd just got done running around trying to catch some lunch to no avail. In fact, he thought with some remorse, that all the exorcise had actually made him hungrier.
He watched morosly as the blurred black and white blobs that were zebra roamed idly in front of him. They'd finally calmed down after he'd retreated and given up on trying to down one of them.
With a light groan he set his chin on his paws. It looked like he'd have to go finding some half eaten carcass again if he was going to get any meal. He hated having to resort that.

Val his mate was usually the one who did the hunting for the family. But recently with the cubs getting older and needing more food he took it upon himself to finally prove he was a 'male' and go out hunting. Only problem was as big as he was he was only suited for family life and NOT the duties that came with it. Not that Val wouldn't mind if he couldn't bring home the bacon. She rather liked being the one in charge of the family and he was perfectly fine with that.
He then saw the zebra out of the corner of his eye. How did Val do this again? He pinned his large mass to the ground as low as possible. Wasn't it something about running out and jumping on them?
With a wiggle of his butt he ran out towards the heard not even taking time to sneak up to them or scout out a weakling. They they stampeded away before he could even get close enough to grab at any one of them.
"Not again..."
He sighed to himself and sat down on his haunches. Val would NOT be pleased with his lack of food.

Akua was startled into sitting upright at the sudden shrill whoop of the alarmed zebra as they ran further away. He almost mistook the other lion completely as another Zebra if he hadn't been upwind. The male raised up, tilting his chin up a little to try and get a better sight of the stranger, eyes squinting just slightly. He couldn't tell if this was a youngster or what but he was massive for a lion.
Akua swallowed dryly, backing off a little bit. For a moment he thought of how bad for him it would be if this stranger was not of the pleasant variety. He decided to lay low. If he was spotted, well he'd have the advantage and be able to turn and run with a bit of a head start if this other fellow was ill-mannered.

Feleji just sat and watched as the heard got further from him, then figured he should get up and go off to his family again and let them know he was a failure at hunting. He got up and sighed once more; Val was yet again going to be disapointed.
He turned but instead of seeing an empty field his eyes settled onto a lion that was colored like the yellow grass. How did he not see him before?
"Hello?" He said questionly wonder if what he was seeing was an illusion.

Akua stiffened a little bit. The other seemed friendly enough... He remained where he was but gave a little bow of his head in greeting, keeping his eyes on the stranger to make sure he stayed within his view. "Hello. Looking for some dinner as well?"
He wasn't sure how this other lion had approached the zebra but it was apparent that he hadn't done it all too stealthily.

He nodded and sighed. "Yes I am." So what he was seeing was a lion. Should he get closer? His mind told him not too but he was a friendly lion he didn't want to be rude and stand to far away. Expecially if he wanted to engage in a plesent conversation. Something he hadn't really had with another soul when his cubs had been born. They were his life. His blood. And everything that made him happy about life- that still didn't mean Feleji didn't want to hang with some other males his own age.
"My name is Feleji. I mean you no harm."
He continued to sit where he had placed his rump in the first place. He didn't want to come off as agressive at all. Fighting was not his strong suit.

Akua relaxed a little as the other lion introduced himself. The offering of his name soothed the sandy lion somewhat. Anyone who'd tell someone their name couldn't be so bad, could they? He stepped forward a few paces, trying to get close enough to be able to see Feleji a little more clearly without being in range of attack on the chance that the big lion wasn't as friendly as he seemed.
"I'm Akua." He glanced over his shoulder and back at the lion with a perplexed expression. "You could get quite close to the zebra so long as you stayed down wind, I bet. They might confuse you for one of their own moving since all of their heads would be down to graze." He sat down, tail flicking lightly as he looked back Feleji's way. He couldn't quite tell if the other lion was covered in stripes but the color match was enough that it might confuse a zebra not paying close attention.

Feleji now got a rather detailed view of the sandy lion. He was a big as he was- which rather unnerved him slightly. Even though the other seamed as nice as him; it was still always a risk introducing ones self to strangers. "I suppose I could try sneaking up again. But I usually end up snapping twigs or tripping over rocks." He lifted up a large clumsy paw to show him. "I'm no good at hunting. My mate Val is amazing though." He said openly discussing the love of his life.
"Oh if I could only hunt like Val. Then I wouldn't have to worry about my cubs starving..." He trailed off at the end of the sentence. He shouldn't have been discussing cubs with strangers. Especially ones that seamed as hungry as him. He didn't want to risk them being eaten even if Akua seamed rather pleasant. So Feleji changed the topic quickly.
"Those Zebra sure are tricky..."

The big lion gave a small smile to hear of the Feleji's cubs. He obviously loved them very much... perhaps the reason why the topic was changed so very quickly all of a sudden. No harm there. Akua turned back to look at the zebra as they once more grazed on the grasses, standing packed together as they were it looked like one giant sea of white and black that stretched on forever for him. Zebra stripes were already made to make it hard for a lion to be able to tell where one ended and where another began, for Akua it was impossible to tell at all.
"Mmh..." He gave a small lick of his chops and a sigh. A zebra would be so delicious. He half eyed the other big lion as Feleji gazed towards the zebras. "Perhaps if we worked together we might find ourselves able to get something? I don't mind taking a little bit so your family can have the rest."
Just to be able to sink his teeth into something fresh... oh that'd be delicious.

The large male thought about it for awhile. It was clear to him that he wasn't good enough to catch a zebra all by himself. But maybe with a second large male they would have better luck. After all two heads WERE better then one. "Alright...as long as you-" He lowered his voice so that he was sure nobody could here. "Don't tell Val you helped me please. I kinda want to prove to her I can ya know take care of the family too."
He lifted his head back upwards and looked back at the heard. It was almost like they were laughing with each much of the grass. How could they just eat there full well knowing that there were TWO, not one; lions sitting about them. Boy they must have known from they start the pair sucked royally at hunting. Well he and his new friend would show them who was boss!

Akua got to his feet with a faint chuckle. "If I ever meet your Val I promise I won't breath a word." He crouched down a little, eyeing the mass of zebra with a little dismay. Tilting his head up a little bit he scented the air before nudging Feleji at the shoulder to get him to move. "Go East a little, keep your head down... we want to be downwind of them instead of just charging in blindly."
He walked with Feleji until they were in a good position, and then ducked down low in the grass and sand. The color of his coat and mane helped blend him with the landscape amazingly well.
"Do you see any singles or small groups away from the main herd?"

He listened to what the other was saying and placed his head down. But as he lowered himself he found that he couldn't see anything over the tall grass and had to poke his head up sevearal times to get sight of some kind of 'weak' creature, which he either didn't see or was so bad he couldn't single any particular one out of the herd.
"Nope I just see them grazing..." He whispered back towards the other lion. He's wait for him to make a move and attack with him. At least in numbers they would have a better chance at taking one down then seperate.

It was clear that Feleji didn't have a chance in hell of capturing one of the creatures before him. That was Val's job, he was just the baby sitter. He liked kids much better then he did taking life. He was kinds bothered by it to an extent. He looked off into the distance at Akua and watched him try to hunt. He'd probably make the kill he was big enough and tough enough.
Feleji just wasn't. So with a nod of his head he tipped it to Akua and wished him luck with his kill. He was getting hungry and his cubs needed him. Surely Val would have brought something back by now.
