Gazelle scattered everywhere, startled by the sudden lion erupting from the sandy Savannah floor. His color made him near invisible, his sense of hearing and smell both made sure he was more than capable of sneaking up... it was his damn sight that kept him from landing the kill. Akua labored for a few moments, giving chase to the gazelle he'd been aiming for. It gave it's loud wooping yell of alarm, stumbling for just a second before it managed to get it's feet beneath it and bolt forward.

Sides heaving the large lion stopped, gazing longingly after what he was sure would have been a rather tasty meal. It went from a blur, to a smudge, finally blending in completely with the brown haze that was beyond his range of vision.

Akua sighed, sitting down in the dust as he tried to catch his breath. It looked like he wouldn't quite manage to get a meal any time soon. Perhaps he'd manage to find something ignored and half eaten and relatively fresh laying around somewhere... he hated. No he loathed having to resort to such tactics but sometimes...

Mehta had been watching the herd of gazelle, waiting for them to come closer to her tree, waiting to finally sink her fangs into the belly of the lumbering beast. That was, until the suddenly started running. What in the world was going on? Picking herself up to see farther, the sharp-eyed female watched as a lion, tan and large, rushed at the gazelle with little to no tact. What was going on? He seemed, confused almost, as he stared at them, running away. Didn't he see the limp on that female?!

Dropping to the grounds below, the leopard took after the lion. There was definitely something wrong with him, and she was planning to check it out. Maybe the two of them could team up, after all, he had chased away her meal. Guilt was always a cleaver thing to hold above someone, and to top it off, and empty stomach.

Green paws rolled over the lands, closing in on her target. She wasn't going to sneak up on him, but from what she could deduce, it seemed that he either had a hard time seeing or something in his eyes. "You there, you ok?" She yelled, unable to truly know how loud she actually was. It wasn't her fault she was deaf. Just... something that happened. "You chased away all the food, didn't even attack that limper. Something wrong with you?!" There was no harshness to her voice, just, yelling. There was no low volume for her, she wouldn't be able to hear herself talk.

"HEY... You hearing me?"

Akua actually winced as someone began to shout their head off somewhere behind him. He turned around, head swiveling a little bit as he swept his gaze back and forth. Akua took a few steps back as something came towards him, he wasn't sure what yet she'd been behind him and downwind.

"Yes! Yes, I hear you!" He was a little startled by the volume of her voice and how she'd come at him so quickly. She was close enough now for him to be able to make out more of a shape at least. It was a leopardess by scent. "Sh... SHH!" To the left of them a gazelle that'd been cowering unseen by both erupted up from the scrub it'd been trembling in and dashed off in bounds and leaps.

He sighed, turning back round on the female and closing the distance between them. He pressed up close to her, being the more forward of the two of them now as he thrust his face close to her so she finally came into sharp focus. It always surprised him a little bit how clearly the world was. He'd forgotten over such a long time. "What was that about? Tone your voice down!" He looked her eye to eye for a moment, his forehead nearly touching her's, before he backed down and she faded back into mostly fuzzy obscurity. "I didn't see it. My... sight, isn't really the best. I still manage."

His pride was a little chafed from the whole thing in general. Someone had seen it... and then recognized that 'something was wrong'. Just how pathetic had he actually looked out there?

As the Gazelle escaped the area, Mehta's mouth opened in shock of what was happening. She didn't even notice it standing there in the brush. Damn her hearing, it was so choosy, she could hear herself perfectly fine, but anything else came in horribly. Brows furrowed at that fact, maybe she really was hard of hearing, and if that was true, she scared away his meal as he had done with hers. It wouldn't be right to try and guilt trip him now.

Turning her attention to the lion she found his face almost touching hers, the smell of rot on his breath. Seemed to her this one normally didn't get a fresh meal. Looking him over she felt bad about that. Everyone deserved a fresh kill, even if it is only some of the time. Her ears flicked as she seemed to catch something being said, but not really. She certainly did hope he wasn't one of those soft spoken types. She wouldn't ever get to hear him properly. All she knew was that he said something about her voice. Was he blaming her for what happened?

Eyes narrowed, trying to understand what was being said. He didn't honestly just blame her for the gazelle did he. It wasn't her fault they were all gone, just that one. Looking him over again with a confused look as he continued. Sight, something about it. Eyes widened soon after. Ah, he couldn't see. Bingo. That would be why he smelled like rot and failed at nabbing a gazelle.

"So you can't see anything... why blame me for the gazelle though. I didn't know there was one left! Sorry though." Again she could hear clearly, so why the hell couldn't she hear the lion?! Glaring in frustration the leopardess let out a growl. This was not fair.

Akua felt a tick of aggravation as she outright called him blind. Not only that but she'd misunderstood what he'd said. He wasn't accusing her of anything, except for maybe being really loud. And then he realized in an almost mirrored fashion the way she'd noticed he had such poor sight.

He cleared his throat and leaned forward a little bit, raising his voice so she could hear. "I'm not blind I just can't see very well! It seems you can't hear very well either, though!" He had to give a little chuckle then that she probably didn't hear. What an interesting encounter.

"I wasn't blaming you, though! It was my own fault for not being able to keep it in my sight!"

She wanted to move away from his face as he moved closer but fought off the feeling. He couldn't see very well after all, so him moving closer just him trying to see. Or at least that is what she thought before he rang in loud and clear. Eyes widened as he spoke to her. He wasn't blind... just very close to it. ..and did he just accuse her of being hard of hearing? How very rude!

Frowning some she looked him over. Was it really that easy to notice her handicap? Looking around the area she frowned harder, every single gazelle was now gone. "Well, this has made for an interesting meeting hasn't it?" She had to laugh, what ever god was messing with them really did have a good sense of humor.

"I do have to say it is rather odd that we both have met, but maybe it is a blessing in disguise. " Her green eyes glanced towards the sky before looking to the lion again. "My name is Mehta. I am hungry at the moment. Wish to combine our powers to get a nice kill? Seeing as we both scared them away..."

Akua found himself giving a good humored chuckle over the matter. Half blind. Half deaf. Together they almost made a whole creature. "I am Akua and I would be very interested in seeing what we can manage to scare up together." He tried talking in a medium range voice, still leaned in a little close to her. It not only allowed her to hear better (he hoped) but he had the chance to really get to see whom he was talking to. This was a rare thing indeed, as he didn't particularity care to let others know of his faulty eyesight and so could not justify getting so close.

He glanced around, not really able to see where anything might be though he could certainly hear something grazing nearby. Perhaps the gazelle heard had been too lazy to move very far before stopping to graze again, or they had thought they were safe from the two predators.

"I can hear something, can you spot it? Sounds like... to the east?" His ears flicked back as he tried to pinpoint the direction.

Mehta smiled, she could hear him fairly well, which was amazing! Normally she would have to strain to hear what was being said or pretend to understand. Even if she was good at reading lips she couldn't know all the words coming from anothers mouth. Grateful of the encounter she lifted herself up, looking towards the east. Did they really think they wouldn't be killed for being lazy? The horned beasts heads dipped, grazing on whatever they could grab. They certainly would be in trouble when her and Akua came to attack. She grinned, it had been so long since she had hunted with another, and he seemed fairly kind as well. What luck she had!

Attempting to lower her voice she looked to the other and smirked. "The lazy beasts are filling up. Follow me, if you hear anything..." She thought for a moment how it would be best to communicate with her before her nodding. "..If you hear anything, smack me on the back. I will know what you mean." She nodded to him before moving towards their prey. It would be so easy to get the gimpy one now.

Akua gave a faint snort of amusement at her decided method of getting her attention. It worked, though, he couldn't whisper because that would alert the prey. He fell in step beside her, speaking close to her ear again so he could keep his voice relatively low. "Nudge me in the right direction if you need me to move. I'll hang back until I see what you're going for otherwise."

And with that he dropped back behind her, staying close to her rear legs. It was actually comforting to have someone to walk beside, even more so because he felt he could trust the leopardess.

There was only one occasion when he had to give her hindquarters a swat with his big paw, crouching in the grass afterward. He'd heard the angry warning chatter of a few birds. He waited a few moments for it to die down before he gave her a nudge, trusting Mehta to move on if she didn't see anything wrong.
