Hobbies: Blogging - Portia meticulously maintains at least one online journal -- one that is advertised as being "public" and another that is supposed to be "private" though entries are very rarely locked or screened. Her posts are often meandering stream-of-conscious entries that frequently air her own dirty laundry, unsurprisingly. Except for the occasional bit of gossip or passive aggressive comment directed at a friend or crush, Portia's blogs are only interesting to Portia, herself, and (likely) to any 45-year-old stalkers she may have.
Impromptu word games - Portia loves language, especially the English language, and she likes to entertain herself with made up word games. These games are very loosely structured, and range from trying to speak only in iambic pentameter or alliteration to trying to hold a conversation with someone (generally one of her siblings) using only song titles or quotes from a television show or movie. Even when not consciously toying with her language use, Portia tends to have fun with her speech (using puns and word substitution - like porpois for purpose, baroque for broke - for example).
Planning her future - Portia's got a small library of college brochures. Her browser bookmarks are predominantly dedicated to university websites, scholarship and internship opportunities and potential future employer sites. She's picked up every single magazine with a Top 100 list of colleges, degree programs and places to work that she's seen for the last two years. She's already made a couple of college visits - taken tours to see campuses - and plans to see several more before she decides. Portia finds joy in working out the details of her academic and professional future - oddly, romance plays little, if any, part.
Gemstone: Ruby (July) or Emerald (Cancer)
Virtues:Ambitious & Driven - Portia wants to do well in life - she wants a lot of friends and a good education and a great job. She wants to make top grades and do great things, and, perhaps more importantly, be recognized for her achievements. In order to do this, she knows, she must put forth the effort. Although she is not the most naturally intelligent or talented person, Po works hard and that makes her mostly successful. She's willing to put 110% into anything she tries.
Loyal - She may be an obnoxious teen girl with some self esteem issues, but Portia is not entirely shallow. She is passionate about friends and family; she wants her loved ones to be happy, and will stand by them through almost anything. Portia is often a flake, but she will always be there for those she loves.
Flaws: Exhibitionist - Po wants so badly to be fantastic and interesting and mysterious, and she is of the belief that the best way to achieve this status is to be as outrageous as possible. She's a massive show off, first of all, and will do just about anything - grandstand almost any activity - if she thinks it'll get her attention. This is fairly typical sixteen-year-old girl with self esteem issues stuff - talking loudly in public, doing ridiculous things while others are watching, causing trouble and being rebellious. She's also an amazing TMI dispenser, and will spew inappropriate things to get a rile out of her listeners. Portia is purposefully contrary and likes to act against socially accepted norms, purely to place herself in the spotlight. She would, of course, never admit to her motivations; in all likelihood, she, herself, is not fully aware of her need for attention. Calling her on it is a surefire way to leave her utterly flustered, which brings us to our next fault...
Overly Sensitive - With as much bullshit as Portia dishes out every day, you'd think she could take some criticism, herself, but she can't. Even the most well meaning of commentary can be taken the wrong way, and, given her penchant for the dramatic, is frequently blown massively out of proportion. She is easily upset and easily flustered. That loud mouth of hers is more easily silenced by commenting on Po's need for attention than it is by simply asking her to quiet down. When negative commentary is received, she typically resorts to strong (and loud) denial of accusations. She takes everything to heart - even if she shouldn't - and dwells on the words of others, sometimes for days or weeks afterward. Easily distracted and swayed by the opinions of others, simply preying on this trait could leave Portia helpless in the face of an enemy.
Insecure - There are definitely some self-worth issues that Portia needs to handle before she can really grow up. She lives and breathes by the approval of others (her peers, mostly). In her mind, the flaws that she has are multiplied and magnified. She's a good kid, but her insecurities bring out the worst in her: they are the fuel for her acting out and the key to her weakness.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONEyes: Hazel in color, a light brown mixed with a more vibrant green, Portia's eyes are rimmed by naturally long lashes, and usually accented heavily by eyeliner. What she and many other girls believe gives her eyes a smoky, sultry look really makes her look like a raccoon.
Hair: Portia's hair is orange-y red - a carrot top - cut short, worn in a choppy pixie cut (
style).
Face: Somewhere between circular and square, with low, pronounced cheekbones, a wide jaw and short, wide chin. The bridge of her nose is long, but the tip of her nose is short and a bit wide. Her mouth is wide and her lips full.
Body: Slightly below average in height, with a small frame and a light build. She looks like she could stand to run a few laps or lift some weights.
Fashion: Portia is such a little scenester, with her trendy, brightly colored and often layered graphic tees, blue jeans bought pre-ripped and pre-distressed and canvas converse kicks.
