This RP is for Malhy and Aurrie, with their characters Zarek and Alette. Zarek is having a hard time traversing the main Courtyard, unable to find his way back to the dorms after going to the library for a while. Zarek is so stubborn, even his Daemon is having difficulty coaxing him away from the wall and throwing a hissy-fit. Perhaps Alette can help the blind lad?

The RP takes place in the central courtyard of the College, on the Eastern block, which leads to the classrooms. Zarek was TRYING to get to the Western Block - oops!

It was no more then midday, and though classes had not begun yet, it was nearing lunch-time, and if Zarek didn't hurry, he would miss it - again. However, where he had believed the door to be, it no longer was. Because of this, he was now completely lost - his sense of direction was all out of sync with his surroundings, and he was getting aggitated. He stood, facing that which had confused him; a wall rather then a door. He couldn't grasp where he had gone wrong, and tears were starting to choke his throat. He kicked the wall once more, and turned his back on it, leaning against it and taking deep breaths in.

The air was so frosty, and he was starting to shiver with the chill of it. His face was flushed, his bared lower arms frozen. Fingers clutching the handle of his walking stick were numb, and Zarek was loosing his grip on reality. Beside him, his Daemon, Malhyanth, was going mad. He was shouting in Zarek's mind, even howling out loud for any to hear, but it was getting progressively quieter as he lost strength himself, becoming near impossible to see against the still frosted ground; pale blue outlines and haze becoming nothing but mist. Zarek, he knew, was having a panic attack at being completely vulnerable.

Malhyanth looked around, but saw no one entering the courtyard. It was nearly the middle of December, after all! If people could help it, they were staying indoors! This, however, posed quite a serious problem! Being so insubstantial, Malhyanth could neither bite his human out of the attack, nor howl loud enough for another to hear. Instead, he shifted from barbary lion, to tiger, to spaniel, to badger and blue tit, all racing round and round, unable to sort out the problem that was arising.

Loosing the ability to breathe, however, was making Zarek's attack worse. He could feel pressure on his chest, and it transported him back to that freezing cold, dampened Cleansing room, where he had been doused in freezing water, left to catch all manner of illness, and then Him. Loosing his grip completely, he slid down the wall, trying to catch his breath, but struggling to draw it in. His mouth made gasping motions, but no air entered his starving lungs. He started to bash his head back onto the wall behind him in his frenzied motions to get air into his chest. Malhyanth continued to run in circles, attempting to bite at the bared arms, anything to get his human back to civilisation. When like this, even his voice failed to penetrate the darkness.

He howled one last time before becoming too indistinct to even form a shape any more, just a glowing mass before the gasping body of a boy.

It was cold.

But quite honestly, it was something she had been unfortunate to have to deal with since rather young. Her family was rather poor off, after all. The chilly weather brought back those memories and she hoped dearly that her siblings were alright.

They had to be...

Right?

Her writing was getting better. She would write her aunt a letter soon inquiring about them. Certainly, they must no longer live with their mother. That old, drunk, abusive thing wasn't fit enough to hold that title. The sheer thought brought a scowl to the otherwise upbeat and cheerful face.

Her mind was drifting back. Back to those freezing nights, to her large abundance of siblings. They had little in the way of blankets and many had been paper thin. They all had to curl up together and rely on body heat to keep them warm through the night...

"Al."

Her train of unpleasant thoughts were interrupted as she ventured slowly into the courtyard, heading from the South wing. It would be lunch time soon, the girl had gotten used to the steady meals offered on campus and knew that if she missed one, her stomach would gripe and complain. She'd even put some weight on since arriving, which was a rather good thing.

"What?"

"Look, over there. Something's wrong, I think."

The pale, cold, hungry Alette shifted her gaze to follow the direction that Jukka had indicated with her nose. Sure enough, something seemed amiss. Suddenly she was rather glad that her eyes had grown tired of reading and her stomach had begun to complain, else she might not of been out at this time. The weather was certainly dreary enough to keep any sane individual inside.

She picked on her pace and changed her course, briskly trotting through the snow, which sounds much easier said than done.

She didn't know this fellow, but he seemed to be having some sort of attack or another.

Ho-hum, work was never done!

She felt a pang of fear trace through herself when she finally did arrive at the East wing. She crouched low, near the fallen individual. Yep, didn't know him. But she had seen him on campus before... What was his name? Nope, couldn't remember that, either.

"Hey kid, you aw'right?"

She reached out and clapped a hand onto his shoulder, hoping to grab his attention. With any luck, maybe he would respond. She hoped whatever it was wasn't too serious, else she'd have to get a nurse. Was he sick?

"Poor guy... Seems ill. Bad weather to fall ill in, Al, very bad." The anxious settler moved from paw to paw in the snow, then began to shift nervously around her human. She moved from genet to falcon, from falcon to osprey, from osprey to serval, from serval to osprey, back to falcon, back to genet.

Malhyanth, an insubstantial cloud curled up on Zarek's lap jumped too as the stranger approached. He bared imagined teeth, though knew not even the Daemon would see it. He grumbled, and watched as the girl clapped a hand to his human's shoulder. Malhy bristled and brushed at the hand, a swipe of sorts that lacked the claws to cause damage. How dare this human touch his Zarek!! He tried to communicate, hoping the other's agitated Daemon would hear.

'Grrrrr-off, y-----af!! H----'s pa---n---king!!! Don't!!' His words were so indistinct, he didn't know if the other would notice him. He fluttered around, just a faint blue haze, and settled around the shoulders of Zarek. The clap, however, seemed to have done the trick. A sudden heave released whatever vice there was on his chest, and air wooshed into his lungs, feeding starved body parts with the necessary oxygen to survive. The cold struck him all at once, the snow and frost soaking his trousers, his fallen cane digging into his side, the faint presence of Malhyanth around his neck, in his mind, coo-ing softly. What had happened?

Grasping around for his cane, he touched something other then oak-wood. A leg. He recoiled and pressed himself into the wall, Malhy in his mind trying to soothe him. 'Its a girl. She got you out of the Darkness. Not seen her before. Her Daemon. Its settled somewhat - I can see it!' The Daemon seemed confused by the appearance of this Daemon, unsure of it and its somewhat physical being. Zarek pushed the blackened glasses back up his face, shivering violently and nearly knocking them off.

"I'm fine. Leave me alone. It was all an accident! Just go away! I'll find my way... Where's my cane?" He shuffled his frozen fingers around in the snow, touching upon the wood gingerly and trying to grasp it, but his fingers would not respond, and when his grasped it, only fell out of his cold-bitten fingers and back into the snow. He cursed violently and tried again. No use. He snarled out at the other again. "Didn't you hear me? Go! I'll figure my way back! This was all a misunderstanding, I... I..." He didn't know where he was. The words stuck in his throat as he tried to tell the other he knew exactly where he was, only to remember why the Darkness had enveloped him. He'd lost his direction. Where there was usually a door, there had been a wall. Things had all been confused in the snow - he had come out of a door he had not entered or exited through before, and everything had gotten confused and strange, his sense of direction lost as he had walked smack-bang into a wall.

'You're going to need this help, Zarek...' His Daemon conceded. Zarek cursed again and turned his face upward, hopefully to the face of the other, though more then likely no where near where she was! "I.... I'm blind..." He mumbled. He ducked his head and shivered on the ground, embarrassment tinting his pale skin pink, right across his nose and cheeks, up his neck and over his ears. He looked quite adorable really, in his distressed state. Hopefully, though, the girl would help him.

The agitated genet almost didn't even notice the other's daemon, he was so faint. Yet snatches of confusing and jumbled syllables caught his worried attention, not that he could really understand it.

"Al, his daemon sounds really upset. I can't see him, though." She cautioned as she pressed against the legs of her human. Ringed tail flicked anxiously and curious eyes tried to pick the blue haze out from the rest of the atmosphere.

And suddenly the boy seemed to snap out of whatever it was that gripped him. He was breathing and seemed responsive. She had been about to speak, when suddenly he was. And his words weren't exactly nice. She had half a mind to scold him, like she would have one of her younger brothers.

"Yeah, I 'eard ya. Ain't goin' nowhere til yer out of this cold, though, kiddo." She replied smoothly as she stood and brushed the snow from her pants. He seemed pretty darn upset and as much as she would rather get on to the cafeteria, she couldn't knowingly leave the lad out in the cold to fend for himself. That just wouldn't do, no matter if he seemed to be the argumentative type.

"Ah, I see. S'where ya 'eaded, hnn? Mebbeh I can 'elp ya get there?"

Zarek frowned at the nickname of 'kiddo', but let it slide, allowing her to help him to his feet. He didn't much like the touches, but damned if he was going to be able to stand on his own. He stretched out his legs and felt a few joints pop in protest to being picked up from the floor. Malhy slithered from his shoulder and flitted down as a small winged bird, only just distinct now from the blue haze. Zarek bent and attempted one last time to pick up the cane, which he followed Malhy's instruction to grip and pull up to his chest, still shivering like a fool as he straightened and took a deep breath into his chest. It eased some of the dull throbbing there and he pressed the cane firmly into the ground, leaning on it heavily as he took soothing breath after breath. Zarek listened to Malhyanth's internal gibberish as he inspected the other's Daemon a little cautiously, his smallest form, that of the blue tit, hopping around in the snow, so translucent as to seem he was invisible.

'What a big Daemon... Completely solid too! I hope I can look like that one day... Solid... Hmmmm...' Malhy hopped away, and flitted back up to Zarek's neck, where he stayed as a big and sat himself comfortably on his shoulder. 'Ask where we are. I can't tell with your fear. Remember, I can only see when you let me! Your fear of the Darkness makes me as blind as you are! You HAVE to listen to me when I say we are going the wrong way!' Zarek hushed his Daemon with a quick hiss of 'FINE!!' before turning his attention to the other student again.

"I was... I was going back to the Dorms. I can feel hunger in my belly, and thought it may be near lunchtime. My Daemon, Malhyanth, said I was correct so I left the library. I... I left through a different door, and ended up lost. I... I don't know where I am any more." His voice was quiet and embarrassed, and he looked ready enough to be enveloped by the ground itself. "I'm usually much better at finding my way, though! I know it alright, its... its just the cold, yeah? Makes it hard to know where I am!" Zarek set his jaw and growled the last sentence out. He looked thoroughly ashamed though. She had only meant well, and she had helped him...

Alette was utterly baffled by the boy. He was definitely different, though she couldn't say if that was a good or a bad thing.

Just different.

"Dang, kid. Yer cute when yer upset." She chuckled softly, meaning no harm by the comment. Blunt as ever, yep, that was Alette. It didn't really bother her in the slightest and she wore a broad grin, not that her newest companion could see it.

"You remin' me 'o my middle brother. Ya'll 're pro'lly about th' same age." She continued to jabber away, but paused as he spoke. Her attention, which had been, more or less, scattered over many things, came to rest on the stranger she was now helping. She had enough sense to notice that he didn't exactly seem comfortable as she helped him up, so she kept the whole "touching" issue on an as need basis.

Now that he was up, he definitely didn't need it for now.

"Ah, s'where I jest came from. You were def'nitly 'eaded in the wrong direction, then, my friend, 'cos yer at th' East wing. I was 'eaded to the West wing, too, I cou'd walk ya, if ya like?"

Zarek fought with his emotions. At his feet, Malhyanth had altered into a spaniel, who was carelessly scratching at one of his floppy ears. He was becoming a little more substantial, the less Zarek feared, the better he could be seen. He looked up at Zarek with wide, chocolatey eyes, and nudged his leg. Zarek turned his head away a little, and nodded.

Taking a firm grip of his cane, he skirted around himself, finding the path and stepping onto it with a distinct click of his boots, before looking up with unseeing eyes to the place he believed Alette's face was. "Lead on..." Was all he muttered as he presented the crook of his arm. He knew if he was to get his bearings, she would need to direct him for a short time. As soon as they were through the door to the Great Hall in the West Wing, he would be able to find his own way, but until they were by the West Wing door, he was more lost then he'd ever felt in his life.

"Right y'are." She grinned broadly, though she was aware that he could not see it, nor her at all. She hoped he caught the playful tones in her voice, because he wouldn't be able to see her expressions.

Jukka stretched luxuriously, rump and tail arching into the air, and sprang forward. As he did, he shifted into the small form of a falcon and settled experimentally near the less substantial dæmon, tilting his fierce head as he studied him.

"Don't worry, my girl~ My girl is nice. Sometimes a bit rough around the edges, but she means well." And with that, he took to the air and nestled on her shoulder, opposite of Zarek.

"Okay, just this way, aw'right?" She nudged him slightly, arm locked with his. "When did'ja get here? S'a nice place, the college."

Zarek gritted his teeth as he was led along, his mind going blank as he allowed the other to steer him around. He was slowly feeling his hatred of being touched rise in his throat, but he bit it back. This girl, this Alette, was trying to help him. He had to control his anger. Beside him, his insubstantial Daemon was trying to get his human to notice his presence. Malhy could feel how well Zarek was biting back his anger, but couldn't seem to tell him as such. Zarek had effectively blocked everything out in his mind, in concentrating on keeping his anger in his chest.

The other Daemon, the girl's Daemon, spoke to Malhy for a moment, then leapt up into the form of a falcon, and settled higher then Malhyanth was. He looked around, and feeling the anger bubbling, shifted into his largest form, the white tiger. He wanted to protect his human, but seemed powerless right now, being ignored as he was. He knew he was nearly see-through, an insubstantial haze of blue with black stripes running through. He hoped Zarek was ok. They were led quickly across the courtyard, and Zarek was starting to feel his shoulders rising and getting stiffer and stiffer as the girl continued to hold onto his arm.

"Are we there yet?" He asked impatiently. He held out an arm, and Malhy shifted into a blue tit and leapt up to settle over top of the arm, little claws giving a gentle squeeze before they disappeared.

Well, that was rude of him.

The scrawny youngster felt a streak of anger cross her mind, but she managed to quell sufficiently enough to carry on, the sharp press of Jukka's claws reminding her to check herself and keep her mouth shut. She was only trying to help and to start up conversation to help pass the time. The walk was pretty quick and they were practically near their destination. She was secretly glad, though she didn't voice this opinion. Anxiety practically radiated off of him and she worried that she was making him unhappy, far from her intentions.

"Maybe he just doesn't like to be touched..."

Jukka leaned his sleek, fierce head near Alette's face, a sharp eye flashing as he regarded her with a intrigued assistance. He wished to speak more with the strange boy's dæmon, yet at the same time did not want to appear overly curious, not wishing to offend.

"Yeah, we're pretty much 'ere." She slowed as they neared the doors and unhooked her arm from his. Though she felt a stir of emotions for him, a want to help, she felt no shame or pity for him or herself.

"You ok, kid?"
