Ahhh... The forest was considerably bright today, considering all of the tall trees with huge canopies overhead. The sun poked it's rays through the branches here and there, spotting the ground below. There were birds in the branches above, singing, and squirrels poking their heads out of their dens. Yes, it was winter time, but there was no snow on the ground here in the forest, if it was there at all, it would be caught in the tops of the trees. Inteus liked it here in this thick, living forest. This was also his favorite sort of hunting ground, because of the chase and the challenge, but he wasn't thinking about that now, he was focusing on nature's beauty all around him.
He tossed his mane to get it out of his eyes and walked with his head held high. It made him feel right at home to be walking among these beautiful trees and all their furry inhabitants. As he walked, the bracelet around his ankle made soft rough noises to accompany the muffled hoofbeats of Inteus, the Norweigan Fjord.
Body completely calm, eyes barely open, Inteus wandered blindly through this forest, that is, until he heard it. His eyes snapped open, ears swivelled trying to locate the sound. He had heard crashing hoofbeats somewhere nearby, but the moment he focused on them, they stopped abruptly. He scanned left and right, looking for the culprit who interrupted this peace.

The owner of the crashing hoof beats, which had so rudely interrupted the fjords peace was soon discovered as a paint stallion came careening over a log and out of the underbrush not so very far away. Cass looked suitably startled as his wild flight brought him practically into the lap of another and skid briefly as he backpedaled to keep from crashing into the pale stallion.
Bother, Cass thought to himself as his hooves slid across the leaf litter, this was really not the time for happy introductions or pauses in flight and as his hooves gained purchase at long last and she was able to adjust his path and shoot off in another direction the paint steed shot a glance over his shoulder at the pale horse and shouted out just one word. "Bear!" He rather hoped the stallion would take his warning to heart and follow suit because the bear was quite cranky and unlikely to care just who it took said anger out on.
It wasn't long after Cass' abrupt arrival and equally quick departure from what had been a peaceful scene that further rumbling and crashing in the forest could be heard. Presumably the aforementioned bear still on the warpath.

Out of nowhere, this paint stallion leapt into the peaceful forest and barely managed to switch directions and keep from colliding with Inteus. His eyes wide open, ears on high alert, the Fjord wondered why this paint could be running in such obvious fright. He didn't have to wait long to figure that out...
Bear?! Did he say bear? Inteus faltered for just a moment in surprise, but the ominous crashing that presented itself to his ears pushed him into reacting. Also startled, Inteus wasted not another breath, turned towards where the paint had just disappeared and took off as quickly as possible. His hooves thundered along the ground, head held level with his shoulders as his strong legs pumped back and forth, propelling him forward. He had one ear trained forward on the hoofbeats of the paint, the other back on the crashing of the pursuer.
His breathing stayed regular, if somewhat deeper than usual, but his eyes betrayed his calmness. He had never encountered a bear up close before, sure he'd seen them, stumbled across their territory in the past, but never come across an angry one, and planned on outrunning this one so he could keep his record. The small draft was slowly gaining on the paint, now steadily able to see him a little ways up ahead. He was blindly following the other in his haste to get away from the bear, and hoped he knew what he was doing.

Cass had absolutely no clue what he was doing or where he was going, he wasn't particularly knowledgeable about the surrounding lands and had deduced that the only reasonable course of action in this situation was to run...and keep running until the bear gave up. Horse could almost certainly outlast bear's couldn't they? He hoped so.
It seemed the pale colored stallion he'd burst in on had decided not to stick around either but heeded his warning and was now following him. Cass felt rather bad about dragging the unknown horse into his little problem but at least he hadn't stood around in confusion and become the bears next victim, although that probably would have solved his problem. What a terrible thought the paint scolded himself mentally...but he didn't know the following stallion so he couldn't feel too badly about thinking of saving his own skin at his expense.
The Other stallion was catching up now and Cass spared a glance over his shoulder, briefly catching sight of..what was that singing about the other stallions neck? Very weird..Cass turned his attention back to the path he was taking - which was fortunate as he had been about to run into a tree - and his stride faltered for a moment as he dodged the near disaster and then hurried on, thats your problem Cass...your always paying more attention to things around you then to where your going. It wouldn't be the first time something like that had gotten him into trouble.
Breaking from the tree's into a small meadow Cass slowed, ears flicking as her trotted a semi circle to peer down the path behind him for signs of the bear before coming to a complete stop, they'd been running for quite a while now - surely the bear had given up - the meadow provided a decent enough place to check he figured, since he would see it come out of the trees with enough time to start running again if it hadn't.

The mad dash had all of his senses on high alert, as the little stallion tore through the forest. Forward, and away, was the only thought that really crossed his mind as he continued to run. The bear did not sound happy, but if he wasn't mistaken, the thrashing and crashing was very slowly beginning to dim.
Inteus had apparently had the same thought as the paint, as once he broke through the treeline, he brought his pace down into a canter and then into a comfortable trot. Head held high, only to see better, he flicked his mane out of his eyes with a toss of the head and locked eyes with the other stallion. He could see the paint clearly now, for the first time.
The clearing looked safe enough, but as he offered an introduction, Inteus kept one ear on the trees behind him in case the bear had not given up chase yet. "Now I wonder why a bear would chase a stallion, especially one as quick as yourself." Inteus joked as he strode towards the taller stallion, "I am Inteus, by the way." A slight nod, as he drew to a stop, tail flicking back and forth.

Cass was still blowing a bit when the smaller stallion made his appearance from the tree line, tensing a bit as though poised for further flight before realizing that he wasn't the bear. Cass was glad the smaller horse had made it through, imagine how terrible he would have felt if the bear had managed to catch the smaller horse. Happy it hadn't been him no doubt...but terrible none the less.
"Apparently the irritable beast wanted wasn't pleased to come along and find me standing in his berry patch" the paint responded in a wry tone in between breaths. Wretched creatures bears. The paints head bobbed slightly as the other introduced himself "Cassanova" He offered as his own name "But most just call me Cass" He was quick to add - his full name could be a bit of a mouthful he knew. The paints gaze was in explicitly drawn to the strange assortment of things the smaller steed seemed to carry about with him. They were bone's he discovered and what appeared to be a skull had been what had caught his eye while they were running. That was unusual - Cass had never met a horse who carried about bones before. That was typically the realm of predatory beasts. "You have some interesting accessories" he remarked with a slight motion towards the skull.
