well i have started jazz band thinking it willbe fun right?
no.
Any one got ideas 4 music cuz were playin the boring stuff.

In my school's jazz band, we play a jazzy version of Joy to the World (It's a lot of little bits of Christmas songs put in the middle of the Joy to the World song), It Must Be The Blues, and Christmas Time is Here(not really jazzy I don't think....but we play it every year)

What do you play?
Maybe if its boring on that instrument it might be more fun on another one.

Just give it a chance. Finish off the year, and if you don't like it don't do it next year.

Well that's what I play too, and I really like it.
Umm... What are some of the songs you're playing now? (so we can have some sort of a guideline when suggesting stuff.)

Big band isn't always fun, especially if you're playing concert tunes or different jazz arrangements of concert tunes, I've never particularly enjoyed those. I've played with the (Utah) Crescent Jazz Little Big Band for two years now, and I know by now that you have to truly enjoy the music as well as playing it. My instrument is the vibraphone, and trust me, taking that thing on tour every year is a pain in the a**, but I love playing the music that much.
If you still aren't enjoying yourself, switch to jazz combo, which is my preference. It's harder, definitely, improvisation can be a real b***h sometimes, and getting used to what notes sound good or bad can take a while.
What instrument are you playing specifically?

Jazz band at my school is pretty cool. :] Our Jazz Band has a really good reputation, as does our sister middle school Jazz Band (run by the same director). This year, we performed with Kneebody and the Claudia Quintet! Awesome, awesome, awesome. heart
I don't know what constitutes as "boring", though... If you like to solo, grab a couple friends and a rhythm section player (or a couple) and start a combo! :]

To me if jazz band isn't fun for you then you don't hqave to be in it. You can be in normal band*of course* or pep band. I mean I know how you feel. I'm in jazz. It's not always fun but it makes me happy. So all I'm trying to say is do what makes you happy.
