Swiftwind had felt the pull not all that long ago. And no he had arrived in the fruitlands ahead of Starlite. They had been traveling together, but it had been a long journey so he had opted to fly ahead allowing her to rest before making the final leg of the journey. He was tired, but sleep could wait. For right now the most important thing was to take care of their tree.
After landing it didn't take long for him to find the tree. It's white trunk stuck out among the others with its rainbow leaves and swirl pattern. He stopped to inspect the tree closely. It was so beautiful. And then he spotted them. Three small fruit that would someday hatch into their children. That made him smile. He was going to be a father.
How funny, he though, that it wasn't all that long ago that he and Starlite had stopped to discuss what their future would hold and more importantly talk of children. And now they would be parents. "Hello children." He said quietly to the fruit. Was it odd to talk to fruit? Well if it was, then he shall be the weird stallion who spoke to his fruit. He didn't care, what mattered was that he was here and he was letting them know that. And that he loved them.
He laid down near the tree, and though he was tired, he would not rest until Starlite arrived. Nothing would happen to this tree as long as he was here. Pulling his multicolored wings close against his body he settled in. A sigh escaped his maw, but it was one of content. He was a father now.

 Starlite was tired, even though she'd stopped to rest along the way - allowing Swiftwind to fly ahead of her the constant pull of the fruit tree had nibbled at the edge of her thoughts and instincts until she'd given in and followed behind her excited mate. As a result she didn't arrive too much later the Swiftwind whom she found laying next to the brightly leaved tree. It was unmistakably theirs...no other couple could possibly produce such a mix of hues.
Tucking her wings tightly to her side she walked closer, peering at the sapling and the three fruit it bore with a look of wonderment on her face "Three?" She questioned no one in particular..she was going to be the mother of three foals "Wow...and htey all look gorgeous" she remarked after a few moments "Not that I thought they wouldn't be..." she quickly added 'it's just..seeing them.." She explained though she had the feeling that Swiftwind knew exactly what she was talking about, he had probably felt something similar hen he had arrived, how could you feel anything but wonder when you looked upon your fruit after all?

Swiftwind lifted his head as Starlite arrived at the tree. He watched her happily inspect the tree with the same look of amazement that no doubt had been on his face when he first arrived. He got to his hooves and walked over to her. Nuzzling her softly he glanced at the tree. "Yes, three beautiful foals." He said softly to her.
"I felt the same way when I arrived." That sense of excitement and wonder and a slight hint of fear. He had been around foals quite a bit when he had lived with his parents herd. But that was many years ago and now he would need to take care of his own. He had no doubt that he and Starlite would be fine parents. Why else would they be blessed with these fruit? There were so many things he wanted to say to her, but his mind was a bit chaotic right now after running on such little sleep in order to get here quickly.

Starlite returned the nuzzle from Swiftwind as he came over - and while typically his affections were enough to get all of her attention her eyes remained upon their fruit this time. Starlite didn't think he would blame her however, it was hard to look away from something so amazing. "They're all so different" she told him "And yet unmistakably ours" she continued, or at least she could see the traces of each of them in the wildly colored fruit. Hint of the foals who would emerge.
"We will have to think of names soon" She stated with a slightly furrowed brow "But I suppose that will be easier once they hatch...and we see what they truly look like..." She concluded finally turning her gaze to Swiftwind.

Swiftwind bobbed his head. "Indeed they are very different from each other." He took another moment to inspect the fruit, he had done that several times since he arrived but even so he took a closer look. Each fruit showed a hint of each parents color. His inspection was halted when Starlite mentioned naming them. Yes, they would need names in time, but that was a sort of dilemma for him.
He looked at Starlite, now was as good of time to any to tell her, although he really should have mentioned this sooner. "I actually wanted to talk to you about that. Naming them that is." His eyes glanced at the fruit and then moved back to Starlite. ""I probably should have told you this sooner, but I really didn't think about it until now. It is a tradition in my family to give foals a generally plain name." He started to explain. "Then once they reach a certain age they are must complete several trials to earn a new name, with that name comes a mark of honor."
He paused for a moment, he really didn't want to go into details about the trials right now, that might concern her a bit. So he would avoid that until later. "That is how I earned my armor, and my name. Before that, I was simply known as Spirit."

Starlite was merely basking in the wonder of her fruits - attempting to memorise what they all looked like at this stage so that she could remember it later when they were grown and like all children did decided they no longer wanted her doting on them - of course considering that they were still fruit that seemed like a far off problem. Her inner thoughts were interrupted by Swiftwind however, his words were a reaction she hadn't expected..it was something he certainly had not mentioned before and her ears flicked nervously at the thought of these so called trials..but certainly they couldn't be too terrible right? Swiftwind had endured them after all and he wouldn't put their children purposefully in danger would he?
"Simple names? Like merely one word?" She didn't see the harm in that really, and she did want to respect his families traditions as they seemed important to Swiftwind.

"Yes," he told her. "Simple, one word names. Though they cannot reflect upon our names. So we couldn't use the name Star or Wind. Those are reserved for later. For after the trials." If they succeeded at them, he thought. The trials were not an easy feat to overcome. When he had left his herd there were several Nequus who had attempted the trials several times and still had not earned their new names.
Swiftwind had been lucky and completed all the trials on his first attempt. He could only hope that his children could do that same. "Is it okay with you?" He asked her in reference to giving the foals simple names. If she didn't then he would understand, be a bit disappointed of course, but he wouldn't stop her if she didn't want to go along with it.

Merely to move thier conversation to a lighter tone Starlite looked at him and jokingly asked "Oh..what about Swift or Light?" She didn't think either would make good foal names...but couldn't resist tormenting Swiftwind at least a little bit while she thought things over. Starlite still wasn't sure about these so called trials..but she was pretty sure she could come up with a nice one word name for her foals - and to take part in tese trials they would first have to go to Swiftwinds herd - which seemed a fair ways off at this point in time.
"I suppose that we can honor your family tradition....if you'd like" Starlite allowed after a few more moments, she couldn't think of a reason not to really and there was nothing wrong with short simple names...her name was fairly short and simple and to her mind worked perfectly well.

"Ah ha ha." He mock laughed at her joke. "Funny." He snorted. He would never get tired of how he and Starlite joked around even at the most serious of times. Turning his head he looked back at the fruit and deep down he wondered if he did want to follow his family tradition. Why not, he thought, his family had done nothing wrong to him in the pass, he had left on the best of terms so they should follow the tradition.
"Yes, I would like to follow the tradition. It means a lot of me...and my family." He told her. Finally pealing his eyes away from the fruit he looked at Starlite and got that goofy look on his face. "Oh hello there, I didn't realize you were there. But, perhaps you could help me out, I am looking for my beloved Starlite. Have you seen her?"

Starlite bobbed her head slightly at Swiftwinds words - it seems that topic was settled then and she would have to deal with whatever ramifications came from it at a later date, there would be plenty of time later for worrying aboutthat she figured - who knew if their foals would even want to take these trials...they might be perfectly happy with their short simple names. They hadn't even hatched yet and already here she was worrying about things a long ways into the future. Just enjoy the present she told herself and arched her brow at Swiftwind when he got that goofy look on his face.
"I'm afraid not" she told him in a mournful voice "I don't have time to find your mate when I've lost my own!" She continued with a snort.

"Oh my that's terrible." He shook his head. "Well then, we both have found ourselves in quite the predicament. I really wish I could help you find your but I can't leave the tree." He tried his best to keep that goofy look on his face but it was getting difficult at this point. A laugh threatened to break his focus.
He had to look away for a moment to prevent that laugh from coming out before turning back to look at her.

Starlite looked at him with widened eyes "what do you mean you can't leave the tree? This is my tree, I can't leave either!" She managed to keep a straight face - but only just, thankfully Swiftwind looked away which gave her a chance to compose herself again. If fruit could indeed hear the things said to them while they were still in their fruit then they were going to think their parents were crazy.

"Wait a second." He said while giving her a critical look. "If this is your tree and you can't leave it, and it is also my tree and I can't leave it...then..." He circled around her, taking a closer look at her rainbow mane, her pearl like hide and that distinguishable star mark on her forehead.
"Well, I'll be." He said with a stamp of his hoof. "It's you!" He nuzzled her softly and his goofy look faded as the laugh he had so desperately been holding in finally escaped. "Look like we both found what we were looking for."

"Our children are going to think we're insane" Starlite told him with a bump on the shoulder and a soft laugh "Not that that's necessarily a bad thing I suppose...can't take life seriously all the time" she concluded with a fond glance at the fruit. "But yes I know I certainly found what I was looking for" She told him fondly - which was surprising because until she fund him Starlite hadn't even been aware that she'd been looking at all...but Swiftwind and now their children filled a hole in her that Starlite hadn't known was there until it was filled..and no she couldn't imagine life without them.

"Let them think what they wish." He told her with a small chuckle. "For it won't matter as long as they know we love each other and them. Which we do." Hearing her say that she had found what she was looking for he took a couple of steps away from her.
Lifting his head high he unfurled his wings slightly, raised his one leg in a noble position and did his best handsome pose he could muster on the spot. "And you are lucky to have found such an amazing find my dear." He told her while holding the pose as long as he could. Then turning his head to look at her a smile crossed his maw. "And I am lucky to have found such a beauty to share my life with."
