Another day, another memory to work on. This was becoming quite tedious and Thanos just wanted to take a break from it all. It was just so hard to function knowing that so much of you was missing. His herd, well they didn't help either. That was his reason for wandering so much, to get away. He had Thorn to watch them after all, so he could easily go for hours on end without them missing him. Did they even care that he left them so often? Surely not...at least he hoped they didn't. The last thing he wanted was for them to start complaining about him leaving all the time. He sighed heavily as he continued to walk."What shall we talk about today?" Peace asked. "Anything you want to work on or just a random thought recovery?""We should be raining down destruction by now!" War chirped. "I tire of sitting around doing nothing." "We will do nothing today." He told them as he came to a stop. He was tired...wait no he wasn't tire. He no longer felt tired or hungry. Those sensations were something that a true living horse dealt with. Yes, he was alive, in a matter of speaking, but he never fell tired anymore and eating was more a hassle than anything with his face half missing.
He came to a stop in the midst of a large meadow, with no other horses in sight he didn't have to worry about being bothered...or stared at for that matter. No, now he could just relax...whatever that was. He laid down in the long grass, it's lush green surrounding his black hide. His red eyes glanced up at the sky while his rats skittered around on him.

Just another day Regret though to herself, as, with lowered head and plodding aimless steps she made her way out from the trees and across a grassy meadow. It might have been a nice meadow to look upon - if Regret still cared about pretty things. Pretty things die and wither - and once winter came the meadow would be no different. A wild flower crossed her path ,but she barely acknowledged seeing it before one of her plodding hooves crushed it, left if broken behind her.
Regret didn't know sometimes why she continued moving, she expected there really wasn't a reason any longer other then standing in one spot soon became tiresome and the memories always drifted nearer when she stayed in one place for too long - it seemed as good a reason to keep roaming as any - and honestly Regret didn't care enough about this enlightenment to look any further into it. Regret didn't care much about anything anymore.
It was while she was in this weary numb state of mind that the sounds of squeaking began to leak though, she ignored it at first, surely it couldn't be important but as it grew continuously louder the mare heaved out a deep sigh and lifted her head to see where it was coming from. Not that she cared really, lifting her head seemed a bit harder then normal...when had she last eaten? She couldn't remember...no matter really and she off handedly snatch a few blades of tall grass to chew on while she looked for the source of the squeaking noise.
Scavengers she soon realized..running about on what looked to be the carcass of a dead stallion. Rats...most horses didn't like rats much, but Regret found them far less annoying then the ravens that constantly followed her about - waiting for her to drop dead no doubt. They'd get her soon enough she reckoned as she eyed the carcass.
He had once been a nice looking black from what she could tell "Everything pretty dies" she muttered to herself as she absently chewed the grass, seemingly not at all bothered by the fat that she was eating next to something dead. Why should it...she expected she'd be dead soon too.

War watched as the horse approached Thanos. She was a wretched looking thing, all skinny and mud covered. "What an ugly thing." "There is beauty in everything." Peace told her. "It's a shame she has let herself go."
Thanos was doing his best to ignore his rats as he lay there in the grass. But their conversation did peak his interest. Slowly he heard the approach of the other horse. His red eyes watched the mare glance at him and then proceed to eat the grass nearby. Most horses would have ran at the sight of his apparent corpse laying there, or at least they wouldn't have grazed so close by. The fact that she didn't seem bother by it impressed him...impressed, was that right? It sounded right. Oh well.
Lifting his head to look at the mare as she idly grazed nearby he took in her scrawny body, mud covered hide and overall appearance. She was....what was the word he was looking for. Bah it didn't matter, he could figure that out later. "I'm not dead." He said to her.
"We should kill her!" War cried. "Although it won't be a very fun or challenging kill. She looks half dead already."
Thanos tipped his head to the side. Yes, she indeed looked half dead. But he was certain she wasn't from his herd. He would have remembered her if she was...wouldn't he? Damn things were so annoying when he tried to remember them. But no he told himself this one was not of his herd. He knew it...somehow.

Regret blinked as the stallion lifted his head and spoke to her, her chewing paused for a few moments before resuming followed a short time later by a swallow - though she wasn't immediately interested in following this through with another bit of grass. One ear flicked forward in what could probably pass as interest though Regret told herself it was to dislodge a fly. She was done with being interested in things she told herself.
Even something that looked worse off then she did. "My mistake" she told him in a bored tone, perhaps the stallion was still in the process of dying, she'd heard of terribly wounded creatures surviving for a while and seeming not to suffer much - shock she thought it was called, despite telling herself she wasn't interested in the stallion she let her eyes rove over him for a few moments..to he gaping wound in his neck to the viscera hanging out his sides. maybe the Raven's will stop following me and eat him she thought to herself before looking back to the stallions eyes - which were strangely red..the glowing must certainly be a trick of the light - or a hallucination, that wouldn't surprise her much.

"I hope you're not disappointed." He said, though he wasn't really sure why he said it. He got to his feet and shook out his mane, freeing any bit of grass that had stuck in it. As he did so the rats ran up and took their usual spots in his mane. Well now what? She seemed so uninterested in him and yet...she stayed, which meant she must have some interest in him. Right? Or perhaps it was more a morbid fascination with him than anything else....like that stallion he met a while back...oh what was his name...the bone collecting one.
"Ask her what her name is." Peace told Thanos. Couldn't hurt to strike up a conversation with this mare. "Don't talk to her, kill her. Make her suffer!" "I think she is suffering enough. I mean, look at her."
Thanos stamped his hoof. Well damn, should he talk to her or not. Stupid rats and their conflicting information. Why couldn't they just agree on things more often, it would make his life so much easier. What should he say? The typical 'Hello, how are you.' just didn't seem to be like a possibility at this point. So now what? Say something about the weather perhaps? Comment on how nice the day was. Was the day even nice? He didn't even like nice things.
Quick say something, he told himself, before she wanders off. "So...uh...I'm Thanos." Ah yes that was a good start. A little stuttered but it would do. "And you are?" Now hopefully that could keep her here for just a bit longer. Then he could figure out what else to say.

Disappointed, what an odd remark Regret thought to herself - she didn't know this creature why should she care if he was alive or dead? Good horses would care some part of her conscious told her..but your not a good horse anymore she reminded herself, you haven't been for a long time. Regret shook her head - it was a feeble shake because frankly she was no longer strong enough for a more vigorous one - but it did the trick and sent the bothersome memories away again, back where they belonged..buried.
"No" she told him simply..she wasn't dissapointed, nor was she particularly pleased, Regret merely looked at him with dull eyes, probably should be moving on she told herself no need to stand here and wait for the beast to die. But then the stallion did something even more interesting then lifting his head, the beast stood up..and seemed to do so easily. Well...that shouldn't be possible Regret told herself, but the proof that it was was right in front of her. Must be a hallucination she told herself - there really wasn't any other conclusion to draw the question was did she stand here and feed her own insanity by having a conversation with the hallucination or ignore it and start walking again.
"I am...Regret" She told the hallucination. well it seemed like that decision was made for her, one of those ever so annoying Ravens flitted to the ground not so far away...Regret glanced at it but didn't have the energy to chase it off. She'd given up on doing that some time ago. "You look like you should be dead" She told the stallion bluntly, though her tone implied she didn't care either way.

Well at least she's still here, he thought. Although what would they talk about? They both looked like they should be dead, and he had been. Although he wasn't sure this mare had experienced death...yet. Regret....what an interesting name.
His eyes followed her as she glanced at the raven. Was it him it was after or her? He had to chuckle a bit when she told him he looked like he should be dead. "Indeed I do." He began. "But that is because I was dead. I no longer am." That was half true at least. He had indeed died, some time ago, and the only reason he looked so bad was the horrors that Hell had put on him. He was alive yes, but at a severe cost. His body was still in it's decayed state and his mind...oh his mind was a jumbled mess of....something.
"I could be wrong, but I think that raven is after her." Peace said. "Look at the way it's staring at her." "Well she would make an easy meal." War added.
Thanos glanced at the raven once more. Yes, it did seem to be looking at her with that certain 'I'm gonna eat you when you drop dead' look. And yet the mare didn't seem to care. Or did she. After all she did seem to notice it's arrival at least. Maybe she was hoping he would do something about it...you know..to show off to her. Or could it be that she just didn't have the energy to do so? That seemed likely given her thin appearance.
His half tail flickered around for a few moments of thought. Should he chase it away? It wasn't doing any harm right now. It was just staring at her. In fact, now that he had taken notice to it, he found it quite annoying to see the beast staring at her from the corner of him eye. Well there was only one thing to do.
Snorting he turned quickly and ran towards the bird. As he ran the raven hopped once, twice and then with a flap of its wings took to the air. He came to a stop, stamping his hoof while staring at the raven. Stupid creature. He turned and walked back to where the mare stood. Would she be happy that he chased it off? In a way he hoped so. At least he thought he did.

Regret wasn't sure why the stallion found her comment funny, as far as she had experienced there was nothing funny about looking as though you ought to be mouldering in a shallow grave somewhere. Of course she only had a few personal experiences to base this on and most of those were brief and passing encounters. Perhaps she had somehow missed the inherent humor of the situation. Maybe. the real question was...did she care enough to sit here and mull it over in her mind until she found it...no, she found she didn't.
Of course in the end it was less her lack of caring and more the stallions words that brought Regret out of her inner musings and back to reality. He...was...dead? that in itself was a confusing statement given that he was standing before her, and to make matters worse that wasn't even the most confusing part of his statement because shortly after his first confounding words he went on to elude that he had risen from said condition like a what..ghost? Ghosts as far as Regret recalled were supposed to be wispy things..not solid renditions of the horses they were supposed to portray. Her ears flicked slightly..she was thinking to much...it had been a long time since Regret had bothered thinking much about anything. Still now that she had done so there was of course one question that must be asked.
"And how did you achieve this feat?" she questioned him although it seemed the stallion during her silence had become interested in something else entirely..was it the raven? Accursed bird - it could be quite annoying and one in particular seemed more so then the rest of its brethren. She was surprised to see the stallion trot - certainly even shock couldn't allow him to do such a thing - could there actually be some truth to his story? Regret decided she would reserve judgement, here was always the chance she was hallucinating the entire encounter she recalled.
"It was a bothersome creature" she remarked to Thano's as he returned, though she didn't bother turning her head to watch it fly off..there really wasn't a point "It will be back" She stated the rest of her thought out loud. "It always comes back"

"How did I achieve that?" He repeated the question, more for his own benefit than anything else. How did he come back anyways? Curse her for making him think so hard on such a simple subject. He should know the answer and yet his mind felt the need to taunt him right now by hiding the memory. His bobbed his head in thought. Let's see here...something about being in Hell. Hell, oh yes, of course he would remember Hell. And all the horrible things that happened while he was there. Such as his body falling apart on him and...what else did happen there? Wait he was getting off track. Wasn't he?
Focus. How did I get here? Well I walked here of course. No...no that wasn't right either. He let his mind drift further, the answer was there somewhere. It was like the wind, you knew it was there, but could never truly see it. The wind? What about the wind? It made his mane blow around when it came. No, that wasn't right either. Damn, what had they been talking about?
"Snap out of it man, we have things to do. Horses to kill. Destruction to rain down." War cried out as she scurried up his mane to take a seat on top of his head. "Don't rush him!" Peace said, following his sister and sitting by one of the stallions ears. "This will be good for him. Now just answer the question, how did you get here?"
Oh yes, how I got here. "Well see..." He began. "I was in Hell. And I..uh...found some other horses there." Yes, yes, that was it....then what. Something about Thorn. He helped. Help do what again. A barrier. Barrier? Oh right the weakened barrier. "And there was the barrier between Hell and this world. It was weakened on Hallows Eve, so I led the herd out of Hell."
His ears twitched a bit trying to figure out if he had told her everything he knew. But then she said something about a bothersome creature. Was she talking about him? Oh the raven, yes. "Yes, it is bothersome I suppose." He stamped his hoof. "If it comes back I shall chase it off again."

Regret was starting to think maybe the stallion had forgotten her question - despite the fact that he'd repeated it - when he stood there in silence for so long.It wouldn't be unheard of she thought - for someone to forget her, that was pretty much how she came to be here come to think of it... mustn't follow that path of thought to its conclusion she scolded herself mentally, doing so would bring nothing but pain and despair. More pain and despair, at this point it would be but a drop in a river..but Regret thought perhaps her river was getting perilously close to over-flowing and what would happen then?
To much thinking...re-focus on the stallion she told herself, after all if you were going to find anything interesting wouldn't it be a dead looking stallion? she supposed so...though it had been so long since she'd been genuinely interested in anything that she almost didn't remember what it was like. Maybe he was interested...she was standing here asking him question's wasn't she? Probably shouldn't. But any thoughts of leaving drifted away when the stallion started speaking again, his tale seemed more like something her sire might have told her when she was young to spook her and the other foals into behaving then a true story.
But one just had to look at the stallion to think that maybe..just maybe there was some truth to his tale, what other explaination was there? She'd pretty much concluded that he wasn't a hallucination...the raven wouldn't have run off from a hallucination after all - unless she was hallucinating the raven too...
Doubtful, only something alive could be that annoying...And then Regret wondered why she wasn't running away in terror now that she'd reached that conclusion...but then she considered that she'd already been sitting here talking to the beast and it seemed somewhat pointless to go running off now. Plus she doubted she could run if she wanted too...which she didn't, Regret didn't honestly care enough about her life to be worried about threatening it by remaining in the presence of a self labeled stallion from hell. That probably said something pretty damning about her..but Regret found she didn't much care about that either.
"I see" she told the stallion after he related his tale, it seemed as good of an explaination as any, he'd walked through a barrier between earth and hell. Sure...why not?. "Can someone go back through the barrier if they wanted to?" She asked him suddenly..and wondered where that question had come from. The Raven was back...she spotted it's shadow as it swooped by over head. "Are the Rats bothersome? like the Raven?"

Did she not believe him? What did 'I see' mean anyways. Was it that she could see that happening or her way of saying he was crazy. He probably was crazy, it was hard to tell some days. I mean he was a dead horse, in the land of the living that spoke to rats that only he could hear. If that didn't make him crazy he didn't know what did. His head was beginning to hurt from all this thinking. And yet, how often was his mind so active? Usually it was just a jumble of random thoughts, but now it was a bit more clear...at times at least.
Wait she asked a question. Would it be possible to go back? He never really thought about it before. "Well I don't know. The barrier was only weakened on that night." His ears twitched as he thought back to that night. The feeling he had gotten when he arrived back in this world. The disgust, the hate and the...stop thinking, focus. "I suppose if one were to try to go back they would have to wait until it weakened again." That wouldn't likely be for another year.
"We are not bothersome." War said and began squeaking at the silly mare. "Oh no, we aren't bothersome at all." Peace stated sarcastically.
What an interesting question. They were quite bothersome at times. Well no, they were a pain pretty much all the time. And yet, what would he do without them? He would be a shell of himself, more so than he currently was. He relied to heavily on them to consider them bothersome. They were needed. They held his memories, the thoughts he had while in Hell and most importantly they helped him out whenever he needed them. "They can be." He told her, but not wanting to insult them he quickly continued. "But I have come to accept them as they are. They make things interesting."
His eyes watched the ravens shadow as it moved along. He wanted it to land, only so that he could chase it off again. "How long has it been following you?" He could see something like that raven being annoying, constantly following you everywhere you went. Not like his rats, they were always there, never leaving his body.
That made him wonder...why didn't they ever wander off? Did they think he would be lost without him? They would be right to think so. And yet, still, why did they never leave. They had stayed on him ever since they agreed to help him out while he was in Hell. So why stay? Surely they would want to explore this world. Or were they satisfied with the view from his back? Damn he was doing it again, getting distracted by the simplest of thoughts. He shook his mane. Why did this always happen to him? It would change, he told himself, one day he would get better at....well whatever it was that he had just been thinking of.

Regret mused over Thano's reply for a few moments. she supposed it was silly to be disappointed about something you hadn't even known was a possibility until a few moments before but there it was and there wasn't any denying it "Pity" She told him breaking her silence. Another year was far to long to wait - Regret didn't think she would be around in another year - and upon reflection of that thought it didn't seem to be much of a problem...it seemed inevitable that she would find herself in hell sooner or later regardless. Having reached that conclusion Regret decided it wasn't worth worrying over any further and so didn't elaborate on her remark, though she wasn't sure what the stallion would make of it.
Did it matter what the stallion thought? Typically no....had she not decided to stop caring about such thing's? Espechially when it came to males who had already proven themselves untrustworthy and unworthy of her regards in any sense? Dangerous thoughts her mnd warned her, to continue thinking along tese lines would bring back a barage of memories she'd rather not relive. Next subject please.
Thankfully Thanos had decided to answer her second question by this time and so gave her the opportunity needed for such a change in thought track, that was nice...nice? she doubted the stallion had done it on purpose and labeling his actions as 'nice' would no doubt have ramification that she once again didn't want to think about it. Rats! she told herself...Rats and Ravens!
Thanos was declaring that the creatures made things interesting and one of them seemed to be..yelling? At her...she stared at it with weary eyes for a few moments as though trying to decide if she thought it was interesting too. "That one seems rather ill-tempered" she finally remarked before taking her eyes from the squeaking rat so as to return her gaze to Thano's who it seemed had asked her a question while she was busy staring at the rat.
"The Raven?" She thought about it for a while - how long had it been following her?...since that day in the ditch she thought, or at least that was the first time she had noticed it "Since I laid in a ditch and thought I was dying" she told him off-handedly "But it as not to be and I believe he thinks I have cheated him a meal...and so he follows me and waits"

"I'll show you ill-tempered." War screamed as she ran down Thanos' face towards the stupid mare.
Thanos flipped his head up quickly to launch War back, with her landing on his back. Not like she would have done much, she never did leave his body so he doubted she would jump off him just to yell at Regret. His attention turned to the mare once more. "Yes, she can be a bit high strung at times."
"What did you do that for?" War yelled after she regained her balance on Thanos' back. "Be nice." Peace told her. "I will not be nice!" Her squeaking became even more irate now.
His eyes moved to the raven once more. He watched it circle at a close distance, almost as if it knew he would chase it off should it land. Stupid creature. Since she lay in a ditch, Thanos had to force himself back to their conversation as Regret spoke again. So she had once been close to death, or at least thought she was. How oddly interesting. He had been dead before, tasted it, and this mare, so close to it was standing in front of him alive, much like he was. Although in a bit better shape that he was. "I think you shall cheat him of a meal for yet another day."
He really didn't know what else to say. He was beginning to feel a bit weird now. This odd feeling that he knew he had felt recently but from what or when he couldn't remember. Something about....well he wasn't sure. But he didn't like it one bit. Or did he. His brow furrowed in thought, temporarily forgetting about the mare standing in front of him.

Regret didn't seem all that worried about the rat as it ran down Thano's face and seemed intent on well..who knew what rats were intent on? Probably eating her like The Raven. It should have bothered her that she wasn't bothered by the Rat wishing to chew on her..but it didn't. Though she did wonder at the rodent's reaction - it was almost like the beasts could understand her - how very odd. regret had never heard of a Rat that could understand horses, but then she'd never had much time to try and converse with a rat either and now that she had..well it seemed she'd only gone and made it angry. More as an experiment then because she truly was, Regret directed her gaze at the clearly upset rat "I'm sorry" She told the beast before turning her attention back to Thanos "I was high strung once" She mused as though his remark had elicited some sort of long buried memory rather then an answer, but walking down memory lane was dangerous at the best of times for the scrawny mare and she quickly returned her attention to the present.
"Yes I expect so" The mare replied, there didn't seem to be any other way to answer that statement - she wasn't even sure the stallion as interested in an answer since he had a far away look in his eyes that seemed to indicate he was thinking about something else. Probably ought to be moving on the mare thought to herself as they stood there in silence, but moving was just what she defaulted to when there wasn't anything else to do, it's not like she really had anywhere else to be or go, it wouldn't really hurt anything if she continued to stand here she concluded and she blinked at the stallion. "Were your sleeping?" She asked him suddenly - as though just now recalling that hen she'd first come across him he'd been laying as though dead.

"You'd be more sorry if I had have ripped you apart." War chirped away.
Rats...some days he just had to ignore them. What else could he do? Walk away from them? Yeah, like that could happen. Besides what would he do without them? They were important to him, no matter how annoying they got at times. They held his thoughts and memories, without them, he would be nothing.
Sleeping? What did she mean by that? Oh yes, when she came upon him. "No, I wasn't sleeping." He answer. "I don't sleep anymore." Although he hadn't really tried to. He never felt tired so why would he sleep. Much like he didn't eat or drink anymore. But that was for a whole different reason. It was extremely difficult, if not impossible to drink, thanks to the bottom half of his face missing. And grazing was possible, but most of it just fell out anyways, so why bother.
"And where were you headed?" He asked although he wasn't sure if he had previously asked that question or not. Had she mentioned that earlier. He tried hard to think, what had they talked about? They talked about the rats, and then raven. What else? About how he wasn't dead and that he came from Hell. Well if there was anything else exchanged between them he couldn't remember. Mustn't have been important then he decided.
