Volpone was shaking. What was his trainer thinking, entering him in a battle?! He had never battled another Pokemon ever, not even once. What had gotten into Mikey? It was unlike her to want to battle all of a sudden. He snuggled into Mikey's leg, his nervousness evident in every pore of his small, fluffy body.
Mikey merely grinned. "C'mon, Volpone. You need to get some battle experience under your belt. After all, we're going to try to photograph Houndoom...what if one decides that it doesn't like us, and attacks us? You won't be able to defend us if you can't battle." Mikey knew Volpone could do it. She believed in him, even when he didn't. She picked him up in her arms and held him close. "You'll be okay. You're gonna do just fine."
Volpone hoped she was right. He gritted his teeth and leaped from his trainer's arms to stand at her side. There was no use looking like a wimp in front of their opponent.

((The dice roll was to determine the battle stage we're going to be battling on. No attack rolls in your next post, just an intro. We rolled a four, so...
Rolled a four: Water field: Five large platforms float on the surface of the deep pool, four forming a diamond formation around the single platform in the center. While land pokemon can move around on this field, it was mainly built for water-types. Rules prevent the freezing of the water. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to WATER type attacks. This field also reduces damage from FIRE type attacks by 25 HP
I'll start the attack with my next post (after you post). ))

Runt was skeptical at first. He's never battled before, the thought was just ridiculous. Runt trailed behind as Reiko limped into the arena. His crippled trainer was vulnerable, and he realized he had to get stronger to protect her. But if it meant hurting another pokemon... The dratini cringed, his big green eyes swelling with premature regret.
Reiko gazed at her companion as she felt a nudge against her calf. "What is it, Runt?" She frowned as she saw the concern in his eyes. "Don't worry, this will be fun. And quick, you're tougher than you think." She giggled and gave a reassuring wink as she turned to the water arena. Reiko was brimming with confidence in her little dratini. She leaned on her cane for support and eyed the stadium.
Runt slid into the water of the arena, his trainer's words only slightly reassuring. Even if he didn't enjoy the battle, a good swim was always thrilling.

Mikey grinned a challenge to the opposing trainer. "Ready, Volpone?"
Volpone hopped out to the platforms on top of the pool. He stood in the middle, watching the Dratini warily. "Vee!" he called back to his trainer, a determined expression on his face. "Alright, then! Volpone, use Take Down!"
Volpone rushed at the Dratini, hovering in the water. He grimaced, knowing that whether or not he made his mark, he would invariably land in the water, getting his coat soaked.

Runt didn't see the eevee coming, he was much too busy enjoying the cool, relaxing water. The dratini shrieked as Volpone collided with him, and he was forced to submerge in the water. Runt quickly recovered from a dazed state, and began to focus on his opponent.
"Runt! Use Aqua Tail!" Reiko shouted at the rippling water, hoping the poor dratini wasn't too stunned from the surprise attack.
Obediently, Runt glided gracefully toward the eevee, readying his attack. The dratini's tail glowed an iridescent blue as he reluctantly whirled it towards Volpone.

Volpone yelped as he hit the water and the Dratini. Dratini's weren't as squishy as they looked! Volpone whined at his trainer, starting to paddle awkwardly back toward the platform he jumped from.
He was almost there, when BAM! He was hit by the Dratini's Aqua Tail, sending him flying out of the water to land with a smack on the platform.
"VOLPONE! Are you alright?" Mikey cried, a concerned expression on her face.
Volpone picked himself up, shaking his head to clear it from the shock of being hit. "Veeveee...." he said, trying to reassure his trainer that he was fine.
"Okay, Volpone! Use Steel Tail!"
Volpone cringed. He'd just gotten OUT of the water, and now he had to go back IN? Oh, well. There wasn't any other way to go after the Dratini. He lunged at the Pokemon, flipping in midair so his tail could make the impact instead of his feet.

Runt felt the impact, and watched the ejected eevee hit the platform. The dratini wiggled and whimpered, wishing to apologize, but then he saw his opponent charging again. Didn't Volpone feel the same remorse he did? Dratini pushed the thought aside without enough time to think about it. He tried to swim away, but the effort failed. Eevee's retaliation caused him to plummet deeper into the water once again.
Reiko cringed as she watched her companion get hit. "You're doing great, Runt! Use Surf this time!!"
Runt stayed submerged as he summoned a wave. The water level rose up above his opponent as the dratini hid below the surface.

Volpone did indeed feel a bit sorry for hurting the Dratini. But it wasn't like it would hurt for too long. Volpone knew that Mikey would take him directly to the PokeCenter to heal him up, and assumed the same would be true for the Dratini. And besides, there was no other way for any Pokemon to determine how tough they were.
Volpone, sitting in the water once again after another successful hit, gasped as he saw the gigantic wave of water rising in front of him "VEEVEE!" he yelped, paddling for the platform as quickly as he could. He swam faster and faster, enough that he managed to scramble on top of the platform before being swallowed by the wave. The wave broke on the platform, sending harmless layers of water swirling around Volpone's feet.
"Whew, that was a close one!" Mikey said, her heart fluttering in her chest. Volpone had barely avoided that one. "Okay, buddy! How about another tackle attack?"
Volpone, soaked to the bone, turned once again to attack the Dratini. He was worried, though, because the Dratini had sunk below the surface. He waited until he saw a darkish blob under the water, then leaped into his attack.

The dratini couldn't tell whether the wave hit or not, but he didn't see an eevee flailing in the water anymore. He swam cautiously in circles, gazing at the surface for a sign of life. Before he knew it, Volpone came crashing through the water. The force knocked Runt into a daze which he quickly shook himself from.
Reiko couldn't see what was going on beneath the surface, but she bit her lip nervously. This battle wasn't going so well after all. "R-Runt? Are you alright down there?!" She called, but she got no response. The worried trainer shifted her weight from her cane to her good leg to get a better view. "Try using your Water Pulse, or something! You remember how we practiced that one, right?"
Runt was almost too tired to continue, and the apprehension in his trainer's voice was not comforting. The dratini took aim at Volpone, and formed powerful pulses of water that shot towards him.

Volpone collided with the Dratini yet again, this time a few feet under water. He struggled to reach the surface, but before he could reach it, water seemed to batter him from all sides.
Mikey began to be worried when she didn't see Volpone surface. "Volpone? Are you okay, buddy?!?" She peered at the water, hoping, praying that she would see that her beloved Eevee was alright.
Volpone, dazed by shock, managed to wobbly paddle to the surface, back to the platforms. He shook himself again, gasping in big gulps of air. Once he had recovered, he looked to his trainer "Eeevee...." he said wearily.
"Hang in there, Volpone! You're doing so well. Just a little more, ok?" Mikey said, wringing her hands in worry. "Alright, give 'em another Steel tail!"
Volpone dashed towards the water again, wondering if this wasn't just a tad suicidal, attacking the Dratini, hoping his attack would hit...because he didn't have the energy for many more.

Runt whirled around in the water after the devastating blow. He floated to the surface without much energy, squirmed onto a platform and collapsed.
Reiko thought a moment about throwing in the towel as she saw Dratini's battered state. After the Eevee's latest attack, he looked beyond exhausted. "T-Try using Surf again!" She called, hoping the poor dragon would pull through.
Runt heaved a sigh, and pulled himself up to summon another wave.

Volpone floated in the water after his attack, feeling guilty about hurting the Dratini so badly. He hadn't meant to hit it that hard. When he saw the Dratini gearing up for another attack, he dove in the water, avoiding the wave as it crashed harmlessly above him.
He popped back onto the surface, swimming over to a platform. Honestly, for someone who didn't like water, he was sure getting wet today.
"Okay, Volpone! We're almost done. One more Take Down!" Mikey shouted, hoping the battle was truly almost through. It was hard for her to watch her Eevee go through so much pain....and she felt somewhat guilty for hurting someone else's Pokemon. Of course, they knew what they were getting into when they signed up for all this...
Volpone raced back across the platform, diving over towards the Dratini.
