When roaming Grearos you will randomly encounter monsters on your journey. Here is how random encounters will work. You will be able to generate monsters by making a random number. To roll a random number look for the "Post Action" drop down menu above the text box when making a reply. Select "Random Number" and make the number between 1 and 100. Choose two die. Depending on the number generated (or "rolled" as I like to call it) a monster of varying strength will appear for your character to face. Be careful not to take on monsters that are too tough without help from someone else. I would like to encourage you to party up with other characters in order to defeat stronger monsters.

First dice rolled was a 99, get a Class I monster. Roll 89-99 to generate a Class II monster. Roll 69-88 to generate a Class III monster. Roll 29-68 to generate a Class IV monster. Roll 1-28 to generate Fodder.
Second dice rolled was 1-20, get a Type I (Elemental). Roll 21-40 generate a Type II (Plant). Roll 41-60 generate a Type III (Beast). Roll 61-80 to generate a Type IV (Winged Beast). Roll 81-100 to generate a Type V (Humanoid). See below for an example.

Confusing? How about some examples? Let's say I rolled a 41, 32. So here's how it would work.

I rolled a 41, 32 so that means that my character would spot a Class IV (wild), Type II (plant) monster. At this point the character would choose whether or not he/she wants to fight that monster. If he/she wants to, he/she chooses the species and attacks it, if not he/she (chooses a species for post's content's sake) and simply walks/runs away.

You can also form parties to make fights easier, 3 vs 1 with the odds in your favor make it less likely that I'll interfere and give the monster an advantage.

Power Classes of Monsters:

There are five power-classes of monsters in Grearos. Each class varies in size, but size is not always a determining factor of a monster's strength.

Class 5 monsters are nothing special, they're basically fodder. Consider these to be weaklings that just about anyone or anything can slay.

Class 4 monsters are a bit tougher and can pose a challenge for anyone who is just starting out if they decide to attack one alone.

Class 3 monsters are a challenge for anyone who doesn't have a ton of experience fighting monsters.

Class 2 monsters are a threat to nearly anyone that isn't a seasoned warrior. Stray away from these if you are not confident in your stats.

Class 1 monsters are the elite, most badass beasts of the land. Very few are stronger (bosses) than these so you had better know what you're doing if you're taking one of these guys on alone as they are a challenge even for those who gang up on them.

When generating a random monster it is up to you to choose what species it is and giving a description to how it looks like. This can be as simple as describing it to be an imp-like creature, or as complex as describing it's size, odor, facial features, coloration, plumage, etc. Do your best and be creative! It can get troublesome if you keep rolling for the same class of monster, so use techniques of description such as saying that the last monster you defeated was part of a pack or something. Also, relate what the monster is to the area of the world you are in. If you are in the realm of Daemons then make the monsters you spot to be more common in that area. If you're in the Human country you can say that you happened upon a bandit or something. It's all up to you!

For beginners (^.^) so they can't die right away from extremely poor luck. All encounters by new players are fodder monsters if you go out on your own. it's not like you travel far from the city when you have no skills, right?

*A note from Shidobu: That's right. Remember that you have the chance to run away, also, so if you have a roll that generates a monster that's WAY too strong for you to beat, just don't attack it. If you do attack it, though, you can't escape because now you've angered it and it would probably be able to catch you considering the difference in power and speed.

In the bestiary there are numbers corresponding to each monster and each class. When you roll for a monster battle leave your post with a *awaiting roll* content and edit after you find out what kind of monster it is.
