||I saw a spider..and it compelled me to make this thread....
I heard from people's people that if you kill/step on a spider you will make it rain. This, obviously, is an old wive's tale. If it does rain and you DID kill a spider or know someone who did on that day..then I think it's just coincidence.
I read this Greek mythology book..about Arachne and her weaving contest with Athene. It goes something like:
Arachne boasted that she was the greatest weaver of them all. Athene heard of this and was about to kill Arachne when she thought better of it and decided to have a weaving contest instead. Arachne wove first, and in her weaving were happy scenes of love and joy. Athene had the battle of the Titans and the Gods and other ghastly scenes. Arachne won, and this enraged Athene. A version says that Athene turned Arachne into a spider so she'd be condemned to weave (webs) for eternity. Another version goes on to say that Arachne hung herself so she didn't have to face the goddesses' wrath. Athene felt pity and turned her into a spider so she could do what she loved.

I read about the Athena-Arachne mythology once, in grade-school. I think the one about it raining when you squish a spider is false. It's kinda silly.
Oddly enough, I like spiders. I think they're fascinating. But my friend, Minerva, freaks out whenever she sees them. She starts bawling and trying to claw her way out of the room. eek

I've heard the various ones on Arache. I'm weird in that I alternate being afraid of spiders and not being afraid of them. 0_o

Most of them are actually pretty harmless...they kill flies, and I hate those things.

i once bitten by a spider... bcoz i was playin w/ them... esp the red colored ones... i like their breed, they're kinda a warrior... domokun

I had a pet tarantula once. He got out and ended up getting squished. I don't kill spiders anymore because squished spiders are unpleasent.

Did you use to keep them in matchboxes? xd I had Filipino friends who did..and then they battle with each other's spiders ... never really did got into it (probably because I'm a girl) and also catching spiders were a challenge for me 3nodding
And my grandma wouldn't approve of it either sweatdrop

Yeah...the house spiders are alright..the ones with the thin legs..but the hairy ones at the zoo freak me out sad

I think people keep spiders because they don't make any noises...and maybe they're easy to feed? But I wouldn't like a spider...especially teh huge ones... ninja
I can't imagine if I see it's tank (or whatever you put them in) empty!

I have Arachne-phobia, but for a good reason. when I was little I was out playing on my swing set and a Gardian spider (The big black and yellow ones) came down beside me and anded on my shoulder and bit my ear. I ended up in the hospital with an allergic reaction to the bite. Now when ever I get bit by a spider I either end up in the hospital or sick for 2 or 3 days strait.
