User ImageThe sand storms had increased in the unexplored deserts of the unknown territory. Dark sands whipped about in the night limiting visibility to barely one's own nose. Screams of a nearby village drown in the roar of the sands along with the fires of the now smoldering buildings. Before the sands had become enraged the smoke and glow from the fire could be seen from even the rogue desserts, but the sand storm even engulfed the tall pillars of smoke.

Nick stumbled into an ancient ruin. It was only a mile away from the smoldering village. Her black robes smelled once again of blood and ash. The nightmare still clung greedily to her mind even as she moved out of her daze. Her 'iron' hand steadied herself against the wall as she slowly made her way further into the halls of the run. Where she was didn't matter... Nothing mattered any more. It was over.

Her right eye glowed with a dim red light as the excitement wore off. In the dark that eye was the only thing guiding her through the passages. Her Left eye remained closed, it couldn't see anything in any case through the damned mask.

The hall lead into a wide dusty room. Empty, large, and with many other halls leading out of it. Once in this room Nick's hand left the wall and gripped at the edge of the mask. Her other hand joining it in ripping the accused thing off her face. Chords ripped from her face and neck with a snap. Nick gasped once she was free of it. Than, with a roar, she cast the mask across the room. It's mocking face repulsive. This, this damn thing, she couldn't ever see anyone she cared about because of it. Titus, Titus had gone through so much because of it!
User Image
Nick screamed again as her metallic hand balled into a tight fist and slammed into the wall, leaving a nice sized hole in its wake. The night, what had happened still fresh in her mind. Every detail stabbing at her with painful blows. With each mental blow Nick screamed again and struck at the wall. This time with her metallic claws, leaving a deep gash in the rock. Than altering between clawing it and punching it.

She paused holding her fist to the rock, her forehead leaned on the cold wall as well. Slowly her will to stand left her and she slid to her knees. The dark robe she wore spread about her as she fell. The hood fell back letting her long white hair fall freely over her back and shoulders. The crimson colored tips hid in the black robe making her hair seem slightly shorter than it really was.

".......damn it.... damn it damn it damn it..."
Nick growled as she slammed another hole in the wall, her last for the moment.

Everything was silent now except for Nick's heavy breathing. Her metallic fist remained in the hole it had just created and her forehead rest once more on the cold stone.

This night proved to be the worst in her life... topping the night her mentor, John White, had died. Titus was strong, she would be alright. But Nick had wished that things had not gone as they had.

The mask glared at her from across the room, resting in the corner of the room near the hall opposite the one she had just entered from. It seemed to mock her. Just being there it laughed at her, reminded her of everything that had happened. It wouldn't be long before it would call her back... back to her prison, her new home, her hell.

Pebbles and dust dislodged from the partially destroyed corridor wall and fell around her in a sheet of debris as Kai tried to stand, forcing her to sit back again and cough violently through ill-used lungs. Her awakening, which for all intents and purposes was what it was, had been abrupt and painful. Year-old wounds gapped red and fresh as if just received. Muscles, still full of lactic acid from the over-exertion of her near-escape screamed in disagreement to the movement.

She sat back, with eyes closed, and breathed.

Had a year really gone by? Maybe it had been less time- it had to be. She couldn't have survived, unconcious, for an entire year. The trials of her dream, or experience, whatever it had been, had left her with a headache far worse than the missiles had given her. What the hell could be worse than a war that had raged for so many years?

The draconic organoid stood over her, glaring down with burning blue eyes. The runes of its body reverberated, almost pulsing from some unknown energy. Edge always seemed stronger in this place, as if he truly belonged here. As if he came from here. Everytime their course was forced out into unknown territory, he forced her path to meet this place. It was here they had met, and here they continued to catch snags of a secret- a dark secret- that didn't wish to be uncovered.

Kai groaned, arching her back, digging her elbows back into the wall and rolling forwards onto the balls of her feet. Her boots were tattered. All of her clothing could use replacement. The frabic was held to her body by long strands, ripped into broad and uneven strips that just barely still passed as a covering. Not specifically recalling such destruction of her clothing from the actual fight, she could only wonder if Edge's cords which had held her bound inside of his inner cavity had torn them over time.

But how much time?

The smack of a solid- perhaps metallic?- object against a stone wall down the hallway made the pilot freeze. Maybe no time had passed. Maybe the Imperial soldiers were still here.. Maybe..

Edge snarled, his long muzzle opening to reveal the long line of sharp teeth-like structures which were, as some unsuspecting cadets had found the last time she was on republican ground, not just for show. His growl rattled down through his entire wicked form, long tail lashing, its spiked end missing Kai's face by mere inches. His metal claws clinked softly against the rocky ground as he strode in the direction of the noise. Blue-white markings faded until he held no color upon his body but black, and he too vanished into the darkness of the unlighted temple.

Kai pushed herself to stand, wavering with disoriented lack of balance. Bloodied fingers slipped down and drew a short dagger from her boot and, keeping to the wall, began to slowly- ever so slowly- press her way down the corridor.

Well before Kai would ever reach the room Nick was in, Edge came to the opening first. Blue eyes blazed, but the growls rumbled in his consistent displeased noise and no sounds of outrage or further hostility accompanied them. Long dragon-like mouth reached down and took up the mask in his jaws, holding it almost delicately. Tail swayed out behind him in balance and movement, his stance ready to attack as always but refraining from it. He took a few steps into the room to reveal himself in what dim light was present, watching the well-known pilot expectantly. Apparently, he recognized her, and was more than pleased- or as pleased as Edge gets- to see her.

Nick froze at the sound of something large and metallic joining her in the room. Her metallic fist slid from the wall with a screech as she slowly came to a stand. Nick's biological hand pulled the hood back over her head as she turned around to face what had just entered the room.

Her eyes widened. The right eye's glow brightened. -Kagi? No... Kagi was never very quiet. And this organoid was black. was it...-

Nick cautiously moved closer to Edge. The steel at the end of her boots tapping on the ground as she moved. With each step her focus remained on the organoid's bright eyes. Nothing like Kagi's. Not at all full of a great greed. Ancient eyes as Kagi's are, but not stupid. No, though this one is familiar.

"..." It wasn't anything of the Judge's. He didn't have that feeling. It was starting to bug Nick. Who-
PostPosted: Wed Dec 02, 2009 7:53 pm

Regardless of her condition, there was enough pent up rage in her now that a fight right now would still far more than likely be in her favor against some green Imperial cadet whose head was swelling ever bigger in the thought of the favor his superiors would lavish upon him for a job well done.

Her progress, while slow, was deliberate and nearly silent. Her boot tips scuffed against the rocky ground and a piece of gravel rolled away, out from under her weight as the edge of her foot hit it.

"Why are you just standing there..." She hissed through furious teeth at the organoid who should have been mauling whatever threat was present in this long forsaken temple. However, her voice trailed off as already-adjusted eyes fell upon the familiar face. Though, the form was not entirely.. the way it should have been. The way she had seen her last.

"It.. can't be.." Kai stuttered in a low, hushed voice to herself. She straightened and moved to a position just behind the organoid for the same reason he stood there- to come into a little light.

"....Nick?" Finally her voice was tossed loud enough to carry across the small but resounding space. Her usually narrowed, angry eyes were almost wide in the general surprise. Her fingers had loosened, the dagger barely kept from falling by the grove of its hilt at her fingertips. "What.. what the hell happened to you?"

Nick was nearly in reach of her mask when Kai showed up behind the black organoid. Her heart nearly stopped. At first she thought that it had been Titus. She feared that the 'puppy' had followed her here. The red glow brightened to its peak. It cast an eerie glow on Nick's face, revealing the metal chords in the right side of her face and neck. The scar that stood out the most was one of a cross over the right eye. A signature of the Judge. Her face oddly resembled the mask Edge held in his mouth.

"T-..." No, her eyes were different. The voice was different. "K-kai?" She whispered. She had not seen her good friend and former team mate in over a year. She thought that she was dead...

In a panic she pulled the cloak tight over her right arm and the hood over the right side of her face. The sharp gauntlets she wore flashed red as they moved over the glowing eye. Though the glow penetrated the black cloth of the hood it was dimmed a great deal by the thickness of the material. It was a lousy attempt to cover up her scars and metal... Nick's body was riddled with scars, more so on the right side. Her canines had been changed to be sharp like a wild animal... a cruel joke of the Judge the first time she had been captured. Nick's skin was pale, almost white as her hair. In combination with the fags she seemed almost to look like a vampire of dark horror stories. Again, a cruel joke of the Judge. Only to torment Nick further of what she had become.

"Why... why are you here?" She looked at Kai's own condition. Her sapphire eye was still dilated from the previous event and the lack of light. It was full of fear, pain, confusion, frustration and behind all that hate and rage. The compassion they used to hold so boldly lay buried underneath all these negative feelings. What she once was lay buried with it, but not lost.

"Kai, what happened to you?" Nick whispered, wincing a little as she spoke.

Kai's question was heard, but was lost to the shock Nick was in at seeing her old friend. A bit of embarrassment at her torn form as well.

PostPosted: Thu Dec 03, 2009 7:09 am

The black organoid shifted his languid form back slightly, as if keeping the mask, hooked upon his pointed fangs, gingerly just past her reach until Kai was in full view. The red glow of her eye and the obvious changes of her form provoked further irritated, yet quiet, growling, but it maintained a low-keyed undertone which portrayed the general acceptance of Nick that he had always had. Something he didn't allow for anyone else, save of course Kai.

Kai stood straight, but with difficulty. Her attention had moved entirely to Nick, noticing the changes- or at least a couple of them- even as she pulled her cloak tightly around herself. Words were missing for a long moment as she took in what couldn't be. She would think 'impossible', but hadn't everything that should be impossible happened lately?

"Nick.. I.." The condition of her friend, and her fear to show herself to Kai, was more disturbing than the message she'd recently received. The tenderness she may have been able to display a year ago was covered in dirt and grime, at multiple levels. Her question caught her off-guard, her focus so utterly attached to the mangled appearance of her old, and only, team mate.

Not only did Kai appear beaten and bruised, bleeding and painful. She also didn't appear to have aged a single day since Nick had last seen her. Embarrassment, or the should-be modesty, of wearing such tattered clothing was non-existant in the sheer shock of finding not only another person down in this wretched, secret-witholding depths, but that person being her age-old friend. "I am.. I mean.." She had to close her eyes and shake her head slightly to find any coherent words. Bloodied fingers pinched the skin between her eyes to try to ease the headache and bring the impossible memories into tellable order.

She'd never believe her. Who would?

Red marks of bloody residue were left where she'd pinched the skin between her eyes. "I wouldn't know where to start.. I was being chased by Imperial soldiers, and ended up here. Jager is a couple miles.." And she waved a hand off in the general direction of west. "Then.. I was here." Of course it was easy to sense that there were a lot- a whole lot- of missing detail in those poorly constructed couple of stuttered sentences.

The truth was, she had little interest in talking about herself when Nick appeared so.. changed. Changed in ways that weren't natural.... or right. "Don't hide from me." The stubborn pilot changed the subject quickly, feeling her sorry excuse of a synopsis was sufficient. "What happened? Who did this to you?"

Still to the point, Kai had not changed. Wait, she physically had not changed either? Odd...

Nick picked up on the missing detail, a lot of missing detail, but said nothing. With a sigh she moved the hood back revealing her scarred face. The glow in the eye dimmed greatly, but would never truly be out. Unless her heart were to stop that is. The mechanical eye's sclera was black and lined with small wires leading to the iris, which was crimson. Wires lead out of the corner of the eye and lead down the neck. The ear was still intact, but scared.

"I... have always had metal in my body." She held up her right palm for Kai to see. The center of the palm had a circle in it which had several other lines leading from it to every finger tip. It looked to be able to endure unimaginable heat. The claws also looked to be very sharp and able to become longer. "You can just see it now... It, the Judge-" Nick sighed and shook her head.

She slowly lowered her hand. Her other hand undid the cloak and let it slide to the ground revealing an arrey of weapons secured to her belt. A few daggers, some missing from their place, an empty gun holster, and most notably a whip with a sharp bloody blade at the end. The whip smelled odd... The tunic was sleeveless revealing the full metallic arm. Her other arm was covered by a thin flexible metal, but this was obviously not part of Nick's body and just an armor cover.

She looked back toward the door for any sign of black fog. When she was sure it was secure she focused back to Kai, still wondering about her own wounds. "Your wounds... fist, let me take care of your wounds. And I will tell you what I.... am allowed."

PostPosted: Thu Dec 03, 2009 4:48 pm

Set face stared at Nick as she revealed the external metallic changes. Expression never changed, emotions never changed. She simply watched as if it didn't phase her. But really.. it did. She didn't often have affection or attachment to other people, but she did, and does, with Nick. It was an ache within her chest she didn't really understand.

"The Judge? Who-" pause, "what is the Judge?"

Suddenly the mask dropped from Edge's large mouth, clattering loudly to the rocky floor as he uttered some terrible noise that was a mix between a growl and a roar. Whether he was furious about Nick's appearance or what the pair of them were talking about, it couldn't be certain. But he was angry. No, more than angry. He stepped forward to hook one draconic claw through an eye whole, pinning it to the floor as if it were the enemy he'd been searching for. A long, wicked hissss died into the silence, since Kai had paused at the outburst.

The reaction of the organoid, who was so withdrawn from any normal conversation, worried the pilot at some deep, unexpressed level, but she tried to let it roll off her shoulders and be delt with later.

"What you're allowed? Who, or what, are you dealing with?" The questions were simply a reutterance of her confusion before, wanting so badly to know what was going on. She'd conceed to the conditions, even though she shrugged her shoulders, almost annoyed that her physical condition was being counted as so important.

"I really am fine. These happened.. awhile ago." Not.. really, not by what they look like. Gashes on her forehead, the back of her head and arms, her fingers sliced and random abrasions dotting her skin. "I'm more worried about you..."

Edge's outburst came before Nick could answer. She watched the Mask, hoping that he would just destroy the damn thing so it would stop laughing and glaring at her. But, that might being it here and there would always be more.

"the Judge is a demon..." Nick winced at the mask before looking away and back to Kai.

"I want to answer those Kai, I want to be honest with you, but I can't tell you that." It hurt to have to keep so much from everyone she cared about. "I promise it will not be hard to figure out... Just know I hate everything about it... It tears me apart..."

Nick knelt down to pick up the robe. The claws extended slightly as she cut into the thick cloth as if it were hot butter. Thin strips, enough to wrap around and be easy to tie. Nick avoided any area tainted with blood. She was lucky that this last mission she had not gotten much on the robe.

Nick's brow quirked when she claimed they happened a while ago. He look up just as she finished another strip. "They look fairly recent..." Nick spoke as she got to her feet, holding a thick strip in her hands."

Out of respect, as she had remember last time, she looked at Edge. A silent way of asking 'may I approach my friend?'. Owning her own orgaoind she knew they were territorial of their masters.

A dark force? A demon?

For a moment, that serious stare turned more into a dumbfounded look, her mouth opened slightly before she could catch herself and turn her ice-blue eyes away. That was the one, and only, thing that was a little different about her- her eyes were pale enough to perhaps be considered white in poor lighting such as this, even though blue still tainted them lightly.

"How can anyone keep you from talking? We're the only ones in this wretched temple." Something large enough must have happened down here that an otherwise impressive underground secret could be called wretched and spoken about with such pure distaste. "Nick, I want to help.. I don't know how much time has passed, or what's going on outside these walls-" There was some of the truth she had skirted around earlier, spoken as her flustered words come out in a bit of a frustrated rush, "-but I'll do what I can. Nobody.." She fumbles for her words and restates "Nothing should be able to do this to you. Or treat you this way."

The respectful glance from Nick was rewarded by the mechnical creature with a turning of his head away from Kai- permission to go towards his human without his interference or outrage. However, all his messing with the mask had not caused the old aquaintance any upset- and he only cared because Kai cared so much about the girl and he didn't mind her much either- so with a talon hooked in one eye hole, his pointed jaws reached down to wrench and tear it into two, chomping it hard. The high pitched grind and scream of metal on metal reverberated down the empty temple's corridors. Something was wrong with it. Something was familiar. He hated it, and hated it more than he hated the rest of the world too. The rumbling sounds he made as he caused his little bit of destruction were pleased noises, but uncontented. This issue bothered him as much as Kai, it seemed, if not more.

With a heavy sigh, Kai sat on the hard ground The surge of energy it took to move towards a potential fight and the excitement after of finding Nick was flooding out of her in a rush as her muscles relaxed and the initial adrenaline began to run out. "Tell me there's something I can do."

Once permission was given Nick moved closer to Kai with her cloth strips ready to mend her wounds. As best as she could with the limited resources. She would start with the head wound.

She glanced over to Edge when he had his way with the darn mask. When nothing happened she let out a sigh of relief. "It hears me no matter where I am. I don't know how, but it does." She tightened the cloth as she finished wrapping it around the wound on Kai's head. For her current appearance Nick was quite gentle. "There is nothing you can do. I have to continue being what I am until..." Nick stopped in mid sentence. "It wants me alive because of what I can do, because of what it did to me." Nick frowned. GOD she sounded like a mad woman. But for the sake of Titus and Riot's lives she could not say much.

"Before I meet you I did something reckless, it coast me the whole right side of my body, my ZOID, and the life of my mentor. Dr. Fox experimented with mechanical parts, much like the metal on ZOIDs... He did a good job covering up, making me seem normal. I meet you a month after the surgery when Blaze was being re-born. That, the mechanical parts, were why I was always taking those damn pills..." Nick tightened another cloth.

"After you vanished the Judge was able to capture me." She thought of that bone headed rogue that made that possible. If she ever meet him again she would surely rip him apart. The inward frustration caused her pupil to narrow and the eye to glow a little bit brighter. The mechanical palm grew warmer, but when she looked back at Kai she took a deep breath. Control. "It re-did everything the Dr. had done, making it something it could use. It read my mind, it knew I felt like a monster for my previous mistake... and made me look accordingly. It found pleasure in torturing me the whole time... It loves how I scream" Nick chuckled between grit teeth and tightened another strip of cloth. She wished she had something to clean the wounds, but Kai would have to do that later. "The hair, lost its color over time..."

Nick looked at the wounds on Kai's arm before continuing to wrap cloth on them. The thought came that if Nick ever crossed the people who did this to Kai, she would crush each of their skulls... The imperial army, they would pay. Every last one of them would pay.

"Now I'm no more than a puppet..." She growled as she tightened another strip of cloth.
PostPosted: Fri Dec 04, 2009 11:42 am

She listened. Without interrupting, Kai listened. And waited. As the make-shift bandages were set around each wound, she would let out a quiet breath of air or wince gently, depending on its size or depth. But otherwise, she remained utterly silent, her icey eyes set unwaveringly on the dark, dust-covered floor in front of her worn and tattered boots.

The words she was listening to were surreal- almost, if not more than, the experience she had held while in stasis within Edge's inner cavity. This couldn't all be true. Everything that seemed normal, or as normal as constant war could be, was being turned into even more turmoil. The fury that built inside her was intense. The headache turned into a throbbing pressure between her eyes that threatened to burst. She grit her teeth, only noticing her hands trembling a few moments later, which she quickly curled into fists to force to stop.

"...It read your mind? And made you look..." Her sentence broke off, her rage quickly escalating. Deep breath. As she took that moment to breathe, she noticed the warming of Nick's metallic palm, and finally looked up to her face. "You can't be a puppet." She finally stated with so much finality, in any other situation, it would sound like she'd already taken care of it.

Kai took a long time after that to not say anything, as if she was debating something. Eventually, though, when she spoke, she had to look away. "I've been here for the entire year. How.. I'm still not sure. All I remember is that I was running from a group of soldiers that had cornered me and the Edge's face.. then.. I was somewhere else."

"I thought for the longest time I was just unconcious- it was just a dream. But everything just felt.. real." Her words were cut a little short, as if she knew how crazy she sounded. But who else could she tell? Especially after what Nick had just shared. "I heard, or dreamt.. about a man after an entire year had gone by in the ancient place I was in. He told me that there was something greater than the war and the politics that I needed to be concerned about. Some great evil or force that I had no idea existed."

She sighed, "I could be making it all up, but the fact the he said Edge knew something about it.. I just don't know."

"I woke up, and found myself still here, and everything exactly the same as it had been including all the injuries I had gotten that day." Ice-blue eyes turned back to Nick, appreciation for her help but a solid resolution to help in that gaze, "If I can't help by myself, maybe he can."

Nick refused to comment about Kai's denial of her being a puppet. For the most part she was obeying orders for fear of the lives of everyone she cared about. Those were her strings. Oh how the Judge loved to make her dance.

She picked up on Kai's frustration quickly. For a moment she watched Kai's hands shake with great concern. With a sigh she placed her own biological hand on her friend's shoulder.

"It could have been real. I wouldn't put it past an organoid to reveal the past or future. Kagi had shown me a few things that came to be when Kagi and I first meet..." Nick frowned.

Kai's own story seemed like something in a fantasy novel. But Nick had no doubt in her mind what Kai was saying was truth. She had been pulled countless times into Executioner's own body and seen things that seemed so real it left Nick confused afterward. Kagi as well... both had taken her to lush green valleys or mountains. A few times she meet with people she had never seen and some who had died. These Organoids were truly a mystery. However, Nick's mind had not changed about the imperial army and the soldiers. The Judge might find favor in the lust for revenge.

"...Edge?" Nick thought of the possibility that this aggressive organoid might be the answer, but shook her head as she dismissed the option. Her hand left Kai's shoulder as she moved around and took a seat in front of Kai. There was more to the story than Kai knew and Nick wanted to figure out more about the Judge before plotting more into its death. But she did not wish to say anything about it. Thinking it was dangerous enough. "I'd rather you kept him close to you. He will keep you safe, out of its clutches..."

Mending the fingers would prove to be the most difficult. Nick carefully worked with the cloth around the gashes. Minding her sharp edges carefully.
"Try not to move, I don't want to give you any more cuts." Nick focused now completely on the fingers. The glow brightened slightly as she focused.

"This place is where Edge and I met. Everytime our missions bring us out to this region, he always pulls me back." Even going so far as to screw with Jager's radar and gauges to force her in the wrong direction and right ontop of the temple instead of back to the republican boundaries. Something was important here. Ancient, unawaken. Terrifying. Edge knew what it was, and wanted Kai to find it badly. But every time she came here, something else was here to meet her. Whether it was Imperial forces or something else, she never left this place without scars to remind her of the visit.

"I just wish he could speak. It would make this much easier." That comment seemed to be more an irritated remark to herself rather than Nick directly. When she declined her offer, she studied Nick's face carefully. "But what if he can do something? Or knows something.. that will make a difference? There has to be something tying you to this evil.. thing.." She grasped for words, not wanting to call it a demon, for dislike of what it would really mean.

"He has ties to something that I don't understand, and you do too." It was like trying to capture air, speaking about something she'd heard only vague stories of. But there was still an urgency, and a frustration, which edged her voice. She wasn't ignoring the danger that was imminent in dealing with this force, or offering Edge- and thusly herself-, or even being involved right now with her old friend. All of this meant something very serious, but Edge wouldn't have shown all of that to her if it didn't mean something. Was she only making associations with this 'Judge' because it involved Nick? Or because she was meant to.

She untightened her fists to allow Nick to work with her fingers. She had no pieces of cloth aside from what little she wore, and her appreciation showed genuinely in the easing of her furiously cold expression.

"Where is Kagi?"
