A lazy day. The drills with their wing had been completed early in the morning, and now there was time to enjoy the day. It was cold but sunny, and L'thor was determind to enjoy the brightness despite the temperature. So it was that not far from the lake a sleek dark green dragon lounged beside a large thick pelt, upon which lounged a tan-skinned man dressed in many warm layers.

L'thor shifted lazily into a slightly more comfortable position and stared up and the bright blue sky. It reminded him of clear days back at Ista, but the chill that nibbled at his cheeks and their surroundings kept the resemblance very faint. Still, it was a nice taste of his old life... He could of course have chosen to go down to the island today, but increasingly he chose to spend his free time at High Reaches. He might still be nostialgic about the place his had Impressed Raith, but this new Weyr was gradually becoming home.

"I'm glad," Raith rumbled softly, "I mean, I don't even remember Ista anymore save when you remind me of it... I think I will always love heat better than cold, but this is home now to me. We are settled here."

"Yes," L'thor gave a soft sigh and shifted closer to her, "I suppose we are." Something was still missing though. Some things, rather. Still, there wasn't a lot he could do about that.

"Meisir?"

Panata looked around the small quarters that he shared with the other candidates for his flitt, the Brown surprisingly not his place early in the morning. Usually Panata would wake to find the little creature resting against his chest or atop his pillow, though though his eyes opened to find nothing. the sheets did not even possess a warm spot to indicate the flitt may have been in the bed at all. A feeling of dread was crossing over his chest and leaving him a little light headed, worry forcing him to toss things over that he normally would have left alone.

"Meisir!"

The boy paused only in his frantic search to clean up the mess he'd made, knowing well his bunkmates would not be happy to see their room in disarray, and with hurried steps Panata carried himself outside to look for his flit.

Meanwhile, the flitt in question had a specific destination that he was going towards. Only shortly after L'thor had finished sighing did the Brown pop out from between right over the pair, signaling his arrival with a happy bugle and messages of delight sent towards Raith.

<3 <3 <3 <3

Meisir seemed to have no care that he was causing a miniature heart attack in Panata, the boy unable to find his companion even after calling out to him many times. Panata was getting images now and then of a dragon butt ( seriously, again? ) which helped him somewhat identify where Meisir may be, but to his own account there were many a spot that a dragon might take to in the sun. For now he would run around blindly, calling out whenever he could.

"Meisir!!"

“Oh!” L’thor exclaimed in surprise at the sudden call, but quickly began to chuckle as he identified the speaker. “Well hello you, where’s Panata then?” he asked the brown flitt uselessly. “I hope you’ve not just ditched him doing something boring, you little beast.” Sitting up fully, he peered around the weyrbowl in search of the extremely affectionate flitt’s owner. No sign that he could pick up, but then his eyes were only human. “Raith?” She’d do a much better job of spotting the youth than he could ever hope to.

“Hold on a moment,” the green replied in amused tones, “he is busy expressing his undying love for my bottom at the moment, it’s a bit manic but I’m enjoying the praise.” Yes he was only a flitt, but that didn’t make his opinions less valid so far as she was concerned... Well so long as his opinion was that she was beautiful in any case! At another nudge from her lifemate however, she sighed and pulled her attention away from the excited brown and raised her head to peer around the weyrbowl. She wasn’t sure she remembered what the person she was looking for looked like, but she could feel L’thor sharing her vision so she’d be alerted when she did spot him.

After a few moments, Raith’s eyes flicked over a scurrying, worried looking figure. “That’s him,” L’thor informed his lifemate, pulling her attention back onto Panata, “Give him a shout, would you?”

The sleek green rumbled her assent before giving a loud bugle and raising a wing to make herself more obvious; humans had such poor eyes he would doubtless need all the help he could get in identifying her.

Panata startled as a bugle reached his ears, and he turned his head from side to side as he tried to find the source. The call didn't sound familiar, not that he knew any dragons so close enough to tell the difference, and when his eyes fell on a dark color with sprouted wings not too far off he felt his heart leap and fall.

"Raith?"

His legs carried him over quickly towards the bugle and the other motions, hoping heavily that his destination involved a dragon he liked and a rider he thought very kind. If it turned out to be anyone else things might get quite awkward, though the closer he ran the more vivid the images from Meisir seemed to be...and for a moment he even saw a little flash of himself running towards the group. A sigh of relief escaped his lips as he made a final approach and the familiar tail of his Brown fly over, the little Flitt looking up to greet his Master.

"Meisir! So this is where you were!"

The happiness in his voice could not be disguised, nor could the tracks on his cheeks from where he'd probably been crying while searching. There was no need for him to feel embarrassed over this, but he rubbed his face none the less.

"Oh, um! Hello L'thor, Raith. I'm sorry for troubling you."

Oh dear, poor thing, he really had been worried. He really did need to grow a pair. Still, there was time for that, for now it was probably best just to treat him gently. "Panata," L'thor gave the youth a warm smile, "don't worry about it, you're no trouble and nor's Meisir; Raith was enjoy having the quality of her rear end praised!... So other than out of breath from chasing your little scamp around, how are you today?" He really did feel the need to keep an eye on this youth, in the same way he had been protective of Veyes at first. That relationship had relaxed into a more even friendship now - albeit with a slight mentor/pupil slant - so he had the time to fuss over another candidate.

"You're like a mother wherry with your young friends," Raith teased gently, "I'm expecting you to start squawking any minute... Oh, and tell Panata I say hello please and that I hope he's well too."

"Squawk squawk," L'thor replied, elbowing the green dragon subtly in the ribs. "Raith says hello, and she hopes you're well too," he passed on once he felt his lifemate was as chastised as she was ever going to get. There really was no stopping her, but then again there was no stopping him so it was probably fair in the end.

"I'm okay, thank you for your concern, a little sore and stiff in the legs. Been running around all morning and getting in trouble for it...but that's not really important."

Panata had gotten yelled at a few times, what with his yelling in the halls and waking others who were trying to sleep still up, but he'd apologized quickly to those people and moved along. While it seemed like he was still a pansy, having cried over losing Meisir, his acceptance of the scorn from before was a bit better.

....just a little bit. Not really.

"I don't know why Meisir seems to enjoy Raith's....end so much. He's that way with all females, not just her, so I'm sure by the time it comes around for me to have a dragon I will know a good deal about...anatomy."

A laughing blush crept over his cheeks as Meisir bugled his happiness once more before coming to land on Panata's shoulder, allowing images of more then just Raith's tail to issue forth from his mind. Panata was sure now and then he got glimpses of a golden color, wrong for this dragon, but seeing as he was dealing with the mind of a flitt he didn't take it to heart.

"So what brings the two of you outside in this weather? Is this your first winter?"

L'thor nodded and gestured towards a spot on the pelt; no sense keeping the lad standing around like that. "Yes," he elaborated after a moment, "never been this far north in the winter before, but the bright sun was too much to resist. It's warm enough with all these layers and a nice hot flask of klah," he gestured at this item, tucked against Raith's fore paws. "I suppose it's only going to get colder from here," L'thor sighed slightly and looked back up at the clear blue skies. "I am not looking forward to snow up to my arse," he muttered. "I've seen snow before and played in it and that was nice. I have a feeling living with it for months at a time is quite another matter."

There had been relatively light falls already, becoming less and less light as time passed. Before too long the whole of High Reaches would be blanketed. How did you wash your dragon when the lakes froze and your hands were too cold to move? That, he felt, would be the time to go and visit Ista; it would still be nice and warm there, perfect for a bath and a bit of relaxation before returning to the icy peaks. Maybe he’d even see his flitts around when he went back frequently to clean and pamper Raith; he hadn’t caught sight of them on his pervious visits but you never knew your luck.

Panata gave a soft word of thanks before he moved closer to L'thor and Raith, glad for once that Meisir's running around and away had lead him to people he liked. The man was kind to him and didn't treat him like too much of a child, and the Green dragon was so soft and gentle it almost made him want to always be hugging her.

"I've never been to anywhere warm, so the cold is all I know. I think I like it over the heat, since when you're cold you can always bundle up. If you get hot you're out of luck when all your clothing comes off and you cannot cool down. Human skin is not something you can peel off either."

Panata has seen people at the Hall overheat before, their bodies unable to cool down and often them getting so sick they were taken away quickly. He's been careful not to mess around and get to a point where he was unhappy with how he felt, enough to where he switched to wearing sleeveless shirts.

"But I think...you will get used to the cold fairly well. There are nice ways to stay warm, or so many of the Weyrfolk and Riders sometimes day. Something about speading time with others keeps them warm and in shape."

Panata didn't understand that at all.

"This will be Meisir's first winter, I don't know how flitts can handle the cold. Do you know how they take to heat?"

Ah. Ahahaha. Ahaha. Ha. Oh dear, poor Panata. L'thor chuckled softly to himself and lounged languidly against Raith's flank. "Well, I have to agree with them," he said with a nod, "just so long as you can find good company... Well I've spotted a few men I know I'd like to spend Quality Time with around the place, and I'm pretty sure the feeling's mutual with a good portion of those; I have the good fortune of usually liking people who are at least open to the idea of keeping warm and fit with me." He hadn't honestly got that much action since he'd arrived, but the more he settled in the more he started looking around, and once he started looking it was only a matter of time before he was in bed with somebody.

"Flitts though," L'thor shook off pleasant pondering about certain attractive blue and green riders. "My lot were always good with it," he continued, "like the dragons, they tended to deal better with extreme heat than we humans. On the very hottest days they were lethargic with the rest of us, keeping to the shade and vanishing to swim frequently." Even River had lost his mad energy on a few days during the last summer, but only a very few; it took a lot to keep that one down.

Too right it did!

...Eh? L'thor cocked his head at the sudden feeling of agreement. It was faint, like hearing a voice coming from far away but... He focused on it and tried to send the feeling back again; was he fooling himself, or was one of his quartet finally trying to communicate with him?
PostPosted: Wed Dec 30, 2009 12:20 pm

Panata did his best to try and ignore the talk of his companion's preferences, the boy deciding that whomever liked to be with whomever was no longer any concern of his own, taking to nodding in agreement whenever he felt a nod was needed. While it didn't shock him to learn that L'thor liked other men it helped make sense of the warning he'd been given by the Candidatemaster.

"How many did you ha-"

The boy cut himself off from conversation when Meisir seemed to sit up on his haunches, as if he were listening for something. He had noticed L'thor's odd motion too and wondered if something was going on, something he should worry about. Meisir didn't seem to be agitated in the way he often would be around female flits, so maybe this was something different?

He couldn't get any decent images from the brown, so Panata weighed his next best option to be asking.

"Is something wrong?"

"Wrong?" He echoed the boy's question distractedly. "No. No nothing's wrong I just... I thought one of my flitts was - "

He got no further than that: all of a sudden a small, speckle-faced blue firelizard burst out from between with an exuberant squeak and began to orbit L'thor's head at high speed.

"River!" the rider exclaimed, a huge grin spreading across his face. "Where are the others?" He accompanied this question with an image of the other three firelizards and received a confusion of thoughts in return, from what he could gather they had been together and soon would be again. What he wasn't sure of was whether the others were coming here, or if River was leaving again. He wished he had some food with him to tempt them. "Raith?" She was better at communicating with them than he was.

The sleek green gave a rumble of reassurance before reaching out to touch the hyperactive flitt's tiny bright mind. Where? When? Humm? Here? It was hard to get River to listen to her, he was far too excited to see her and her lifemate again to really take anything in. A moment later however, her questions were answered: three more firelizards appeared, and promptly dived at L'thor, all trying to claim his lap. The scrum settled quickly enough with a rusty brown in the lap spot, a more muted brown and a dark blue on his shoulders, and River still buzzing around overhead.

As he tried to pay attention to all of his companions at once, L'thor grinned at Panata. "Four!" he informed the young man, his voice cracking slightly with sheer joy, "I had four, and here they are!" Ah, and now he was the one crying, oh well, Panata of all people wouldn't laugh at him. Ignoring the salt water tracking down his cheeks, the lithe rider continued his efforts to fuss over all of his suddenly returned firelizards. He hadn't realized how much he had missed their minds until they'd come back again.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 04, 2010 10:51 am

Panata nearly jumped out of his skin as vibrant blue flit burst from between, and based on the man's reaction and calling of it by name he figured this to be one of the few L'thor had been talking about only moments early. He was about to say that it was a wonderful timing to introduce him, but the thoughts and words were cut off in his mind and mouth as three other lizards graced the scene.

At his side Meisir gave a bugle that didn't sound too much unlike a welcome home, and Panata wondered if what his flit had sensed was the mind of others? There were still so many things people didn't understand about firelizards no matter how much time had passed, and perhaps this could be one of them? The little Brown sure seemed pleased and was going to go join the massive happyfest that was going on near him, though Panata reached over with his hand and stayed the flit's motions.

No, this is there time. We are intruding, let's let them be happy for now.

The boy sounded a bit wiser than he actually thought about being, and he found that he actually had to wipe a few tears of his own off his face. Panata had cried earlier over not being able to find Meisir, so he could hardly imagine the relief that L'thor must have been feeling upon getting all of his back after so long. Was it like welcoming a lost child home?

"I'm...happy for you, L'thor."

Panata spoke softly, not wanting to break any chance this man may have had for his reunion. He almost felt like he was intruding, and maybe it would be better for him to leave.

L'thor grinned wider than he could remember grinning for a long time, and wiped his face dry with a laugh. "I'm happy for me too!" he exclaimed as River zipped over to chirp a hearty hello to Raith. "I was starting to think I'd never see the little pests again! Oh, let me introduce you! The active one there is River, the fat blue is his brother Dusk, the brown in my lap is River's get Rust, and the other brown is Dancer."

All of the flitts seemed aware they were being spoken about, but each reacted differently. River just kept zooming around overhead telling the whole world how pleased he was to be here even if it was freezing. Dusk turned his head to inspect Panata and Meisir, even stretching to giving a low chirp of greeting. Rust glanced over at the strangers too, but his eyes quickly flashed to a shy, nervous, dull yellow and he his his face in L'thor's shirt. Dancer, living up to his name, wriggled around on his master's shoulder bobbing his head and cheeping enthusiastically.

All back to normal then, L'thor considered with a grin. They might as well never have been gone... Why had they been? The only answer he got from the quartet was a feeling of bemusement. How nice, they'd been worrying him like mad for months over something they weren't quite sure about. Daft creatures.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 20, 2010 12:01 pm

Meisir had taken this all in stride, he had no issues with other firelizards really. He got along with most all of them, eager to go on adventures and play . . .though it was another story when it came to having a female around. It was then that Meisir could be something of wher in terms of possession, and when the beautiful blue River had come close to where the Brown was perched near Raith, the flit released a warning hiss.

It wasn't out of character enough to startle Panata, though the boy did turn his head and look with a frown forming on his lips. This was not how he wanted his flit to behave, not in front of the other flits that had just come home! Meisir was going to ruin their homecoming, and that made Panata feel a little...guilty.

Meisir, knock it off or else we're going. And I will stop you from coming back here

He hoped that his little brown would understand it all, and Panata went back to listening to the names of each one. They were all quite pretty, and four of them?! He was jealous to be sure, but not in the way that would make him seem petty. It was more or less he wondered what it would be like to be loved by that many at once, how a brain could handle that much interaction. Sometimes just Meisir along overwhelmed him.

"So...River is Rust's child?"

He was curious by the "get" portion.

The hiss visibly startled River; the small blue swerved aside with a bemused chirp before returning to L'thor, and taking the last perch available. His head. L'thor sighed as the firelizard proceeded to make himself comfortable, he certainly hadn't missed the tangles this gave him. Oh well, a small price to pay in the end.

"That's right," he said with a nod, glancing at Meisir briefly before turning back to the flitt's master. "At least I think he is. River flew a green that belonged to another rider at Ista, but she went off to the beach to lay. We both spent a couple of sevendays hunting for the clutch, and eventually I found Rust's egg in a little cove; there were two other eggs but they were cold, obviously not going to hatch. I brought Rust back to the Weyr, and played dice with the green's owner to decide who got to keep him... So I suppose it's far from sure that River's the father," L'thor shrugged, "the egg was the right age but that's all I've got to go on. I suppose I just enjoy thinking of them as a little family so I ignore actual facts in preference to my own version." And it was quite possible that he was right. It was also quite possible that he was wrong, but never mind.

"I hope Meisir doesn't keep doing that," Raith put to her rider once he had finished speaking. "I like him, he compliments me almost non-stop, but if he's going to be aggressive to our little friends I shall have to be harsh with him, I really don't want to do that Mine."

Glancing at the possessive brown again, L'thor gave a mental nod. "If he does it again, give him a gentle nudge to be kind. If he does it again after that be a bit firmer. I'd rather you didn't have to be nasty to him as well but I'm not going to have him keeping the boys away from you." They might decide they weren't welcome and leave again, and that was the last thing he wanted.
