The cold air was nippy but there was no snow yet on the ground, which was perfect for Mia who was getting ready to join her brother-in-law to his work place. She could wear her shiny black shoes instead of her winter boots, but she had to wear her long winter coat with sewn on shawl, complete with fake fur trim. She even had a cute little hair band and cute backpack to complete her outfit. She looked, for all purposes like a normal ten year old girl, but even Lore who was picking her up, knew she was anything but.
Lore was not nervous around Mia perse, after all he was safely on the 'Nice' list. It didn't make him any less aware though as he walked with her to the library that she was a dangerous person with the mentality of an old child.
"Here we are," he motioned to one of the long tables in the library, "I'm not sure if you want to be in the children's section or this one, but you can find whatever you're looking for here."
Mia set down her bag and smiled up at Lore, "I want medical books."

Tucked away inside the bag of the tall librarian, unbeknownst to anyone, was a surprise - a Surprise. The first new Surprise that had appeared in the Winters family in a long time, and the first one who was completely unexpected since the first of them. His gray eyes were closed right now, and he was concentrating - trying to figure out where he might possibly be going, though in truth he had no idea. The first time he had emerged from his hiding place, he had been in a small house. The next time, it had been a different house ... and he suspected that when this bag stopped moving, he would be in yet a different location.
His fingers curled around the pommel of his katana. He was ready for whatever would appear once he emerged.

Somehow Mia didn't strike him as a healer type, which probably should have made him nervous. Though reasonably it wasn't like she had a sadist streak, at least not towards people she liked or was indifferent to.
"What sort of medical books," he dared to ask as he set down his own bag.
Mia blinked for a moment and then responded in kind, "Books on how the body works. General body works that would work for most species."
There was a reason why Donovan didn't fully trust Mia to learn fighting, she was already scary enough without that. Besides he was sure that she knew a few cursed magicks if the voodoo doll didn't give it away the first time.
Lore coughed a bit, "I'm sure... I can find something."
He really hoped no one had angered her recently, which was always possible. The problem of opening up the clan grounds like a small shopping village was that one was bound to get trouble makers sooner or later.
"I'll be right back," he murmured going to the shelf he knew had what he was looking for.

There was a gentle thunk, and then the movement stopped, and then the voices ended. The tiny Surprise waited a few moments, then opened his eyes. A slow smile spread over his face, and slowly, he stretched, then reached for the opening of the bag. He lifted it slightly, just enough to peer out. He could see chair legs and table legs, but he was pointed away from Mia, and so he didn't see her. To him, it was yet another new environment that needed checking out.
He slid out of the bag and put his back to it, and stepped slowly around it, his eyes peeled. There had to be something here that needed defeating ...

"A little Surprise? I do not believe you are any child of Lore and Elnara," Mia commented.
She said this in such a deadpan way as if she wasn't at all surprised at the thought of a Surprise climbing out of someone's bag. Perhaps she was indifferent, after all stranger things have happened in the Winters household. Instead she probably found him a curious little thing and looked at him like one would be observing a bug.

The little Surprise jumped visibly, and at the same moment he turned towards the voice and drew the katana that had been sheathed at his side.
"Who are you?" he demanded harshly, angry that he had been taken by surprise. "Identify yourself!"
He looked up and saw Mia looking down at him, and he scowled and pointed his weapon at her. "Identify yourself!" He repeated, louder.

Mia smiled at him, it was a sort of soft smile that most would not associate with Mia at all. She reached out and put a fingertip at the end of his small blade.
"I am Mia Winters, daughter of Kara Winters and Donovan Lau."
She paused for a moment and then added.
"I think you're amusing, what's your name?"

The boy tightened his grip on his sword, his scowl deepening.
"I am Vergil!" he said proudly, as if it meant something great. "Show care, or you will meet the business end of my Yamato!"
He took a half step back, changing his stance and holding the sword as if ready to attack head-on.

Quite a temper she thought, though she didn't know why she didn't regard him with the indifference that she should. After all he was being mean to her technically speaking she should take offense, but she did not.
"Little boys shouldn't jump into things when they are lost," Mia replied.
She smiled again almost too sweetly for most people's liking.
"Besides I am being nice."

That was one of the things that was bothering Vergil about her.
"People are only nice when they're trying to get something from you," he said, his tone challenging her to refute his statement. "Don't try to fool me, it won't work!"
His fingers shifted slightly on the grip of his sword as he adjusted his grip. "Now tell me," he ordered, "where are the demons?"

Mia's lips twitched at that, even though she knew it shouldn't. Instead she chose to frown, because Mommy would not have approved of such a view. Perhaps, pity the boy? Mia tilted her head, yes.... yes she would have pity the boy.
"You're in a library, there are no demons here, and what awful person would make a little boy like you think that no one can be nice just for the sake of being nice?"
Probably a very naughty person she decided.

Vergil was stunned. A library with no demons? How was that possible?
"What kind of library has no demons?" he asked disdainfully, lowering his sword. "Every library needs a few. The hell kind of place is this?" His scowl deepened further, and he sheathed his sword at his side and glared up at Mia, folding his arms across his chest. "And no, to my experience, no one is nice for the sake of being nice. What do you want from me?"

"Nothing," Mia replied.
The wheels in her head were turning, this was a young Surprise who indeed felt that demons in the library were normal. Of course she neglected to mention there probably was a demon or two as it would be sad if the child was arrested for assault.
"Didn't your parents ever teach you want is normal?"

Vergil rolled his eyes at Mia. "There is no such thing as normal," he told her as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Everyone is different, you can't tell everyone to be the same just for the sake of being normal."
He sighed and turned away. "Obviously there is nothing for me to do here," he said sourly. "Where are the nearest demons?"

Mia wondered if she should ask if he was a bit young to fight demons, but decided she wasn't the one to talk, but he obviously had to be a first generation Second. Which meant no parents.
Poor thing...
"You're in the middle of a city, there are no demons..." she paused, "At least not the naughty ones and you would be sent to a youth denetion centre no doubt if you attacked the nice ones."
