I believe that as a type, Poison has often been neglected or pushed into one facility or another. To alleviate this problem, new type combination needs to be considered and then made real.

The types I believe could benefit from there being a little poison in the mix and vice-versa are many and need to be addressed somewhere. Also, there will be things posted here that are just nice things I would like to see. This page may soon be known as the Poison Trainer's Gripe page so, you have been warned.

The first pokemon type I would love to see combined would be that of a fire-poison. My understanding is that the pokemon creators tried to do this by making Skuntank, but made it a highly ineffective pokemon for the purpose as evidenced by the fact that one of it's main tactics (as well as Weezing) is to Explode. Why not give flamethrower to something that can use it and why not give better poison move availability to those who could also benefit from it's use? I look forward to this type combination and keep hoping someone will make it and hopefully make it a worthwhile pokemon to employ.

The second pokemon type I would like to see would be what could be called a Toxeon. That's right, a Poison Eevee evolution. I mean, the original thinking behind this wonderful little Eevee's evolution that Vaporeon's evolution was/is a pseudo poison type. However, I think this was not done very well as the Vaporeon is a much better Tank and Water type as a trainer friend of mine who specializes in Eevee Evolution use would make you well aware of in one fight against her. I did a little research (thanks search engines) and found out that I am not near the only one who believes there needs a Toxeon as well as a plethora of other Eevee evolution ideas, like a straight dragon type Eevee. There's something to think about.

The third pokemon idea that I think needs to come about is the combination of Poison and Psychic. Again, there are options for pseudo types of this match up, but often end up being well less effective for their intended purpose. This type match-up would effectively make a poison type that is not easily psychic destroyed and allow it to use psychic and poison moves on a near equal effectiveness level. Are the game designers afraid to offer this kind of option or did they just feel it unnecessary due to the rampant number of ineffective pseudo types? Either way, I am displeased by this missing type combo.

Here is one to really throw you for a loop, how about a Steel/Poison type? A type that is auto-immune to itself would serve as an excellent counter measure to both the Steel problem faced by poison type users of all kinds as well as giving the poison user the advantage of a Steel type beyond pseudo choices. I would take this one wrapped up in the Eevee evolution as a Steel/Poison combo if need be, but that would break the whole Eevee one Type wonder thing.

How about this type match-up for some extra fun, a Dragon/Poison type? I think something that looks like Dratini's younger more devious brother/sister would work especially well here. Is it really that far of a stretch to see Poison types beyond the painfully obvious (pun intended) choices of a Jelly fish and a Puffer fish? How about the Cone Snail? It's only one of the most dangerous/poisonous fish in the entire ocean/world and has been known to kill unwary shell collecting humans before. In point of fact, a recent Discovery Channel program declared that "you either survive it or you don't and there is no antidote to the Cone Snail's potent poison." I smell the making of an excellent new Water/Poison type. Even if it were a glass cannon, it would have to be better than a Quilfish.
I wonder if that is what they were trying to achieve (and fail at) by giving a Cloyster the ability to learn Toxic Spikes. Another pseudo user? I smell fish.

Onto yet another gripe, my wonderful spidery friend Ariados and how much they made him suck...Not only did they "nErF" his stats, but they also screwed his ability choices. It stinks because there is soo much potential for this Pokemon to be a force to be reckoned with in what it learns in its moveset alone. Alas, you most likely won't get a chance to use any of them because Ari is really, really, slow. You can use agility (which he also learns) but it's a gamble and a move spot that most (self included) would rather use for an attack. I still try to use Ari, but don't expect as much as I once hoped in terms of performance.

Something that always threw me was why the maker of the Pokemon games insisted on matching up certain types together and SOOO often. Do you know how many Poison/Grass Types there are? I'll save you the trouble of counting and tell you, 12. Guess how many Poison/Bug types there are...again, I'll save you some time. There are 9. There are 14 Single Type Poison Pokemon (if you count Arceus holding a Toxic plate). There are 51 Poison Type Pokemon and 21 of them are tied up in the Grass or Bug Types. Don't get me wrong, I like both type combos, but I would like to see some more creative approaches to type mixing.

Now, so I do not continue to rant ceaselessly about the subject of types I would like to see Poison paired with, I will list the rest that should be considered.

Poison/Ice
Poison/Normal (there is enough normal and flying, why not a normal and something pretty natural, like poison. Maybe a type of medical pokemon that can give you too much of a good thing as a defense. Too much of any good thing becomes a bad thing.)
Poison/Rock (the rock type is such a misunderstood type and I believe this type match would be a welcome breath of fresh air, so to speak)
Poison/Electric (this one I could take or leave really, but would be an interesting type match to be sure).

So, I hope you enjoyed this installment of this Poison trainer's ideas on Pokemon and I would love to hear your comments. Thanks and have a great day. May the antidote be with you. smile
