For this class, Peri had written 'tail lash', 'constriction', and 'hypersensitive eyesight'. She still found it a bit odd that these dragons had feathers, but she'd been told one of the new varieties would have feathers as well. So strange... but they were still dragons... she guessed.

Ana wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this class, it had been awhile since she'd been to any classes at D-Corp. She'd been so busy with violin practice and the requirements of her young ladie's finishing classes and so preoccupied with waiting for her dragon to hatch...
Still, the halls were vaguely familiar and much less intimidating now that she was bigger. And now that she had Rush by her side. Pausing outside the classroom door, the little chameleon smoothed out her skirt over it's rustling petticoats (she always wore petticoats under her skirt. She loved the volume) and adjusted the bow she had tied around Rush's neck. He hadn't been enchanted by the thought of having a ribbon tied around him at first until she had glued sequins to the edges. That had cheered the dragon up immensly.
"Now be good, Rush." Ana said nervously. She had a reasonable amount of confidence he would behave himself, though he was prone to fits of mischief that came on suddenly and dismayed the staff. Rush was terribly good at hiding and then jumping out at people. Taking a deep breath, Ana opened the classroom door.
Walking through the door she transformed into a perfectly elegant and composed young lady, a demure and confident smile on her face. "Hello," She said to the teacher, offering a small curtsey (even though they were out of style) "I'm Anataela. This is Duvrush, but we just call him Rush."
The dragon preened, velvety blue with a huge pink-sequined bow around his neck. He looked rather like a birthday present.

Peri smiled as her student walked in, nodding a greeting to both. "I'm Mrs. Coleman," she introduced herself, the 'Mrs' part coming a bit easier now. She still was going to kill Raven... She jotted the dragon's name down and gestured for her students to take a seat on one of the cushions on the floor.
"To start off with, do you have any questions about your dragon?"

"Questions?" Ana frowned thoughtfully, her skin turning a slightly bluer shade of green so that she almost matched the teal stripes that adorned Rush's tailfeathers. Then, with a smile, Ana nodded and turned back to her normal shade of green. She hadn't, in all honesty, meant to color-change in the first place. But Rush was still so new and exciting that even thinking about him got an unintended reaction from the girl.
"He sings. Well, not like a person. Like a bird. Like, he can mimic birdcalls and stuff. Is that normal? They didn't say anything about that when I visited his egg. Oh, and my... and Vienne wants me to find out how to train him." Ana flushed a little. "I mean, he's not a dog or anything. But she doesn't understand that." Rush was better than a dog. "And she's very concerned about him going everywhere with me if he keeps..." Ana blushed, then plowed onward bravely. "If he keeps hiding in dark corners and jumping out to scare people."

Peri nodded, quickly jotting down the questions as the girl listed them off. No sense in forgetting them before she could get around to answering them. "Well, the amphitere is the most bird-like of the dragons D-corp has, so the singing is not really surprising, though I've not heard much about them singing before. It could relate to their environment of the rainforest where many different birds live."
Onto the second question. "Actually... a lot of methods for training dogs work rather well for dragons. Praise and reward for good behavior while scolding for bad behavior. Find something your dragon really loves to eat and keep that as a reward and only give it as a reward. While a dragon generally can't be trained like a dog, with your dragon bonded to you from his hatching, you have a closer bond and can, to an extent, manage to train him some. Things like not chewing on furniture, doing 'business' outside, those sorts of things."
For the third, Peri paused, thinking for a moment. "Hmm... jumping out to scare people... sounds similar in a way to their fighting style. Amphiteres like to plummet down from a height onto their prey. However, with your dragon being young and unable to fly just yet, he may be settling for the next best thing: jumping out of a hiding place."
"Any other questions?"

Ana shook her head, idly stroking Rush's feathers as he thrummed contentedly deep in his throat. "I think those were all the questions I had." She said thoughtfully. "Vienne will be pleased to know about the training, though I'll have to figure out his favorite treat." She smiled fondly at the dragon, and then gave Peri a more demure and ladylike smile.
"We... we have to learn to fight with them, don't we?" She hadn't really meant to ask it, but the question popped out of her mouth anyways. Being some sort of warrior on dragonback appealed to a part of Anataela that was deeply and thoroughly repressed, the concept shocked her sense of propriety more than anything else. But there was still a small tremor of excitement somewhere deep down at the thought.

Peri nodded again. "Yes, though that'll be something the melee teachers will be teaching." She held off from mentioning the class she held for dragons, as she was seriously debating closing that class for good. Too much risk involved!
"Well, if you think of any other questions, feel free to ask." She went on to motion to the blackboard. "I mentioned some of the amphitere's fighting style, but there's more to it. They like to take their prey by surprise and can wrap about it and squeeze, quite like a snake. This is called constriction. They also use their tails as weapons, whipping them about."
Now for the last topic on the board... Peri pointed to 'hypersensitive eyesight'. "Amphiteres have very good eyes. They can see something as small as a mouse or even an insect from miles away."

"I didn't know that." Ana smiled proudly at Rush. "You're very special, aren't you?"
The dragon crooned complacently.
"Are there things I should do to make sure he's... you see, we want to be the best we can be..." She didn't quite know how to word her question without coming off as highly competitive. And overt competitiveness would not be ladylike at all. "Anything I should be doing with him at home to make sure he's, you know, ready?"

Peri grinned at the dragon's obvious enjoyment of the compliment. She tried not to chuckle at the girl's enthusiasm to make them the best pair D-corp had ever seen. "The best thing to do is build trust between the two of you. That trust will help for when you take some of the later dragon classes and could even help in your other classes too. Trust is key to a good relationship, and not just the one with your dragon, after all."

"Trust." Ana beamed. "We can do trust, thats easy!" Seeing as how Rush was the only one in her life that required nothing of her but herself, Ana was already starting to bond tightly with the dragon. "Thank you." She added politely, shoving her excess of enthusiasm back down and putting her demure face on again.

"Unless you have any other questions, we're done for today." The dragon info classes were some of the easier classes that Peri had. Everyone wanted to learn about their dragons and there wasn't any fire breathing or fighting (at least with the dragons) going on!
