Is it me or would it be a good idea? It might be more attractive to women. The american RPG style is one of the biggest market for female since women tends to game more on computers than on consoles... (Statistics I'd have to find the sources again I must say)
Would be kind of nice, even if it would break what we've seen so far with the generic male Shepard

I can see why you and others would want that, but it'll never happen because the advertisement for the game has to focus on one Shep. The reason for the one and only Shep despite the fact you can customize is because a bunch of the stupid people out there would get confused if the ad campaigns/trailers/etc. all had a bunch of Sheps. (think along the lines of people being unable to connect Modern Warfare 2 to Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare because MW2 lacked the Call of Duty title.)
Plus, the box has to have a Shep on it, they can't have a bunch of different ones on the same box. And if they were using a bunch of Sheps, fans of one of the Sheps not used would get pissed. So to avoid all that pissery and confusion, BioWare has one Shep to represent them all.
EDIT: Is it just my computer, or is my reply showing up before the original post? (Sorry if it is. Have no clue how to fix it at the moment.)

Well, at least a reversible cover (You know, like good old time? Some games began doing it again) One side you have female Shep the other Male Shep (at least you could do it for yourself at home. lol)

(but then again, I never really checked.) But I don't think they'll do that simply because it'd cost them a lot to make the extra sides.

For some reason I got the feeling they didn't work as hard on the appearance for the default female Shepard.

Balvyne For some reason I got the feeling they didn't work as hard on the appearance for the default female Shepard. Me too, she's ugly. Then again, so are most of my Sheps.

My Shepards seem to turn out well usually. I remember I tried to range the options to intentionally create a super hideous Shepard to play for the fun of it and he actually ended up looking pretty cool xd

I was frankly surprised that male shep is all over with no mention of female shep. Why not do an ad that shows off how you can create your own character? It'd bring in a lot more people...

All of my Shepards are pretty, and they look great while I'm making them, but then in-game there's always one huge, GLARING fault.
With my current ones, she's got insane cheekbones. rofl
@gkar: I agree. I always prefer games with good character customization (ME, FO3, DA, etc..)

Yeah the first female Shepard I created.. Occasionally it would become apparant that her face was dang tiny xd It made her neck look long and it was irritating to look at. I had already put a few hours into the game when I noticed this though and I decided to leave it as it is, fortunately when I transferred her to Mass Effect 2 her neck and face looked better, I dunno how that works.
Then on the other side I tried to purposely make a funny looking male Shepard and it actually turned out to be quite a unique and cool face in game.

I always make my Shep female ('cause I can't sit through a male Shep playthrough, just can't; mostly due to my fierce love of Garrus, not to mention the preternatural, creepy quality of male Shep's smile) and it would DELIGHT me... it would tickle me darkly if we could have some femme Shep love in the advertisements. I understand the stupid logic of having one main guy representing the game but OMG. Gemme Shep. <3 heart

how many games do you think have female lead characters?
honestly when it comes to characters, the more customization, the better. i enjoy face sculpting and dressing them up. whee
