Alright, there's been a lot of chatter about this MLP owner created subspecies called "Carpathians" and I want to take a moment to set a few things straight. Now mind you, this is just my take on the species and how I will be RPing them.
Species Overview: First off...
Carpathians are creatures of nature. The live in the night, draw their powers from the earth, and take blood for substance. This blood is normally human and Carpathians do not kill when feeding. They are blessed with many gifts from common abilities such as super human speeds, shape shifting, control over the elements such as thunder, lightning, and rain, as well as telepathy, and, to varying degrees, magic. Some Carpathians have specialized skills such as hunting, healing, gem calling, and this really cool trick where they sing music notes that can physically ensnare their enemies. While not completely immortal, they can live for many hundreds of years and are difficult to kill.
They live in the night because the sun's light burns them. Many Carpathains are able to bear the early morning light and the very late afternoon light if they have dark sunglasses to protect their sensitive eyes. Another danger in the day is the fact that the Carpathain bodies become immobile, as lead, around midday. During this time they are vulnerable to attack. To protect themselves, they sleep deep within the earth that protects them and re-energizes them. When they sleep the sleep of the Carpathain people they appear as if dead having shut down all their organs.
The male Carpathains are typically tall, dark, and strong. They are more animal than man in many ways and have strong protective and territorial instincts. The lose their ability to see colors and feel emotions sometime after they reach adulthood (the timing varies between males). After this point the male's soul is threatened to be overwhelmed by darkness that eats away over time and more so if he's a hunter who must kill and destroy vampires.
If he is overtaken by the darkness, he becomes what he hunts. A male with too dark a soul runs the risk of choosing to lose his soul and become a vampire, a truly evil being.
Carpathian women face no such risk. They are the goodness and light to compliment the darkness of the males. While they do not face the danger of losing their souls, the would face a long, lonely, and empty life if they do not find their lifemate.
In Carpathian Society, women are the most precious things in the world and the men live to see to their safety, health, and happiness (you can tell a woman writes the books, right?). Keep in mind it's in that order. Many a Carpathian male has pissed off a woman by doing something for her 'safety'.
Lifemates 101: Ok, you got a general idea of the species, let's get to the good stuff
Every Carpathian seeks out their lifemate. For the males, it is a matter of survival. If they do not find their lifemate before the darkness overtakes their soul they are left with two choices: To greet the dawn and allow the sun's light to destroy them or to become the vampire.
Lifemates are kinda like soulmates, but more. Lifemates share a soul, but they also share their minds though a unique telepathic link, as well as their bodies...frequently (but not on Gaia because that's against the TOS)
A male will recognize his lifemate by the sudden and often violent return of his emotions and ability to see colors. After that the male will feel the need to bind his lifemate to him which is done by a special ritual involving the Ritual Word and the exchange of blood...technically it's not complete until it's "consummated" but again, Gaia...TOS...and Awkward...make a vague, vague, allusion and I'm happy.
There is no word for "Divorce" in the Carpathian language. None. If you have a lifemate and it's not "working," make it work. (This is why anyone playing Carpathians really needs to Think about identifying a lifemate, 'cause once you got one, you're stuck)
Conversions:
So your Carpathian has found their lifemate, Great! Wait - the lifemate isn't Carpathian? No problem! Generally a lifemate can be converted from any non-Carpathian of magical lines (just about anything in this shop can be magical). In the book series it is common for a human female with psychic gifts to be a male Carpathian's lifemate. With 3 blood exchanges, that female can go through the VERY PAINFUL conversion process. During this process the female body will reject the human nutrients and her insides will be rearranged. It's not fun.
Note: In the books, male conversions are RARE. There has not yet been a male converted for the sake of becoming a lifemate, but have no fear, that day is coming...soon...
Notes:
~Yes, we know these guys are powerful. They can read the minds of those around them, occasionally control them, throw lightening, ect. Although the temptation may be great, DO NOT godmod with these characters. This can be avoided by leaving your posts open ended so your RP buddy can make the final call or by speaking with your RP buddy OOC.
~In regards to Carpathians and interests and relationships outside of their lifemates. Generally when the males are younger and still have their emotions, they may fool around a bit. But after they lose their emotions, it's kinda like, what's the point? The women, however, especially after reaching maturation, will feel uncomfortable with the touch of a male that is not their lifemate. Once they find their lifemates it's typically for the male to be very uncomfortable if another male is around their lifemate. If the male lurking around their woman is unclaimed, lifemate male may start thinking violent thoughts...
Naturally I can't cover all the information presented in 20 some books in the space of this post. But this post consists of the the most important Carpathian facts that came to my mind.
If you read through this and have any doubts on if you want to get involved in this mess, just don't. You can make lots of cool characters that do the same things as Carpathians without calling them Carpathians.

Holy crap...how'd you get all the way down here? You must be some type of bored. Fine, whatever, I'm bored too.
So...I've been hanging around the MLP shop since fall of 05. I actaully stumbled in because Manda posted in the Q&A forum and had these pretty ponys from an event running at the time in her sig. Well I didn't need the Final Fantasy ponys she was advertising, but I was very interested in the shop. I was one of those little girls who had more my little ponys than anyone could count and I adored them all. Finding a place where I could design my own little pony was about the coolest thing ever! So I made my way into the shop and started reading everything on the front page because I was brand new to this type of thing and didn't want to screw it up. Then I pmed the amazing Fantasy Rocks and she took my first custom order, a growing earth pony with a black body, black hair with red streaks, and blue eyes (yes, the color combo still makes me cringe now but it sounded like a good idea at the time!). Soon after that I got my first cosplay customs, this was back when the idea was still relatively new and I made them look more like pony versions of the cosplays than cosplay versions of the ponys. Still I adored Zuko and Katara then and I still do now - Zutara forever!
Ok, moving on and focusing, I remained a simple and happy owner for some time. I participated in the shop events and was around when breedings first became available! From there on I had a new addiction. I was also around when the hiring thread offered an opportunity and I had the chance to be a guest colorist. A few months later after my coloring improved a bit I was promoted to full colorist ^^. These days I do my best to balance coloring and RP as well as having a RL life...well, a little bit of a RL life. Breeding are still my first love - coloring them or getting them done they are my favorites! I also enjoy doing simple customs like the ones I used to get when I first joined MLP. For the moment my editing skills are limited but I try to improve although I sometimes find cosplay customs frustrating - it's very difficult to get the ADD to focus on so many little details - why don't they just draw themselves!
In my own herd, Angel of Music and her line is still valued but my favorite family has to be Azaroth's - I am very protective of this line and very selective with who joins it. I also love my Zutara family as well as my Fire and Ice lines. I'll admit I love the dragons and the merponys (and the hybrid mergons!) - Dragons have always been my favorite mythical creature and that little girl with all the little ponys had a nice collection of mermaids too!
I don't approve of breed hungriness (even though my mother intends to be the biggest offender in this area...at least she's honest about it xd ). But when it comes to finding mates for my pets I look for two things, coloring/appearance of the ponys in question and how they'll blend together as well as the personalities of the ponys in question. If you have a pony (I don't care what species) that either looks really good or has a really interesting rp personality, we'll probably be able to work something out. What I ask is that you bring something to the party that's of equal value to what you hope to get. Keep in mind value is in the eye of the beholder...it is subjective.
Last but not least, please don't think me rude if you've said "Hi" in thread and I don't respond or take a while to get back to you. I am by nature a misanthrope and multitasker. The misanthrope part means it takes time for me to take to new people. The multitasker means I'm doing five other things aside from just posting in thread so I don't always get back right away.
