Blackburn Downs are a lush, overgrown forest in the north-western corner of Palaise. One that ventures inside might find thousands of tiny caves, small villages, and strange, hunchbacked, hairy men. Of course, one that ventures inside would not live long enough to tell his family of those strange sights, for inside these woods, dwell the ravenous Blood Eater Clans.
Thousands of years ago, there were twelve clans. Nine were peaceful, but three, the Mulseaic Clan, the Grateist Clan, and the Pilsurasn Clan, were as far from peaceful as any man could ever imagine. Eight of the peaceful clans were killed suddenly by the three genocidal clans, but the ninth clan, the Sorsenta Clan, fought back. These battles would long become known as the Ninth War.
The brutal battles of the Ninth War spanned over six endless years, causing bloodshed of all the races that resided on Palaise, with aftershocks that affected even the farthest continents. Battles raged everywhere from Valcrest to Icemere, and monuments had been erected everywhere. The most famous and last to stand in one piece can be found at Icemere Pointe, inscribed with the names of each of the soldiers that had fallen, regardless of race or who they fought on behalf of.
Today, the remaining Blood Eaters hide in their woods, waiting for the time to come to strike and claim Palaise as their own.
