[T-Day 2009] The Treachu Day Palace (Frozen Section) It gets extremely hot on Kasyune so Eiyah created a frozen section! In here you will find a glass ceiling and falling snow! There is even a hill to go sledding on! Or you could chill inside a room with lower temperature that seems to resemble a ski lodge.

Ginseku shivered heavily, upon arriving in the frozen section. "Why the hell do they have this section? I thought Lizards were cold-blooded..." He rubbed his exposed fore-arms, wishing he had his jacket with him immediately; When the admin at Ria suggested he wear warm-weather clothing, he took that seriously and didn't expect ANYthing like this to happen. He raised his shirt quickly, and his wings shot loose from it's restraining grip. With a bit of effort, Ginseku managed to wrap his wings around his torso, and that helped, somewhat; the piercing cold wasn't kissing his skin anymore. He sighed with a bit of a chatter in his teeth, his breath condensing before him in a wispy cloud. He looked around for a moment, wondering what the Treachu might be keeping back here, besides food, that would need such a piercing temperature.

Dark and light green pervaded the landscape of the parallel plains of the Ethereal Realm. The light green bile that Lucien coughed up in the palace vaporized, the particles crossing the membrane that separated the two realms and condensing into a fine mist. Invisible to the average dweller on the Material Plane, the Ethereal World is but a shadow of this. There was a constant gust of wind in the same direction, where the features the soul trailed off into nothingness; even the blighted shadows of buildings seemed to evaporate at its edges. Inhabitants of this plane of existence could see into the mortal realm and sense its living inhabitants.
It was in this manner that Varon's unmanifested essence picked up the life of a stranded Treachu guard and invaded the vessel. The lizard grasped his head, dropping his shield and spear as an agonizing pain surged up inside his skull. As if he was hit by a sudden shock, his body became limp, as if it only stood upright due to strings attached to his shoulder blades. Within seconds, the Treachu regained his senses- but something was odd. He examined his body calmly and calculatingly, flexing the fingers in each hand and waving his tail from side to side, as if testing the muscles.
He looked around and examined his surroundings carefully, as if expecting something to crawl out of the smallest crack or crevice, or just taking in every single detail for the first time.

Ginseku's head did a 180 when he heard movement off in some direction behind him. He saw a Treachu guard after a few moments of searching through the cold environment, but something was wrong; It was as if he was a marionette, and he was being held by invisible bonds. Ginseku leapt and flapped his wings, and did a flip in midair, touching his heels to the ceiling and binding them there with his will. He wrapped his wings around himself slowly, and observed the Treachu's mannerisms for a while. He seemed to come around after a moment, but something just...didn't feel right, to Ginseku. It was as if this guard had felt some sort of physical effect take hold of him, and he was checking his mobility. When the guard started looking around, Ginseku almost gasped, hoping he wouldn't look up and mistake him for a demon of some sorts. When he didn't, Ginseku walked slowly across the wall, remaining absolutely silent, until he was no more than three feet above the guard. "Hey there," If the guard spun around, he would get to see Ginseku defying gravity and staring down at him. "Everything alright? You seemed like you were having some seizure of some sorts.."

Following the sound, the Treachu guard looked up at Gin's hanging, bat-like form with disinterest. The sight seemed to impress him as much as bats to cave-dwellers and he spoke with a prevalent ennui in his voice, "Yes, Scaleless One... I am quite well. It was but a minor episode; nothing to be worried about." The scaly guard walked a short distance to his side and picked up his halberd and securing it against his frame, but you could sense some awkwardness in his movements- a discomfort with one's own body that would be strange for somebody to have.
The robed reptile looked up at the newcomer again with feigned interest, "And what brings you to these lifeless peaks, Scaleless One? I don't suppose you're out here for the colorful sights and summer weather."

I'm gonna add more to this when i return, but i have to go do some house-work and rest. I'll return in a few hours or so.)
Ginseku did a small flip off of the wall, and landed in front of the Treachu calmly. 'Something isn't right here.' Ginseku wasn't sure WHAT about this particular fellow made him nervous, but he felt a strange aura bouncing around the room, and that made him VERY nervous. Strange auras usually meant free spirits and excess bloodlust in the area, and it was how you knew whether someone was watching you or not(that 'tingle' in the back of your neck). "Ah, I see. Very good then.." Ginseku observed the Treachu's movements even further in picking up his weapon. 'Either the cold is getting to him, or something is very wrong here.' Ginseku wanted to lean towards the cold, because he didn't want there to be something wrong; Cold environments weren't agreeable to him in this form, and he couldn't fight as well as he could in a normal environment, like the Courtyards at Ria. When asked his reason for coming here, Ginseku didn't know exactly what to say; then, he got an ingenious idea. "King Triunis has asked of me to retrieve some fresh vegetables for the party. Would you know where I might find them?" If the Treachu said yes, Ginseku would know for sure that everything was as he suspected, and the Treachu before him was nothing mroe than an Impostor.

The guard looked around the immediate area, and motioned for his guest to do so as well, "I do not know anybody in their right mind who would store vegetables in a freezer. Particularly so if he is in need of fresh ones." He switched the spear from his left shoulder to his right one, growing used to the new vessel and the established connection gaining stronger bonds. His tone seemed somewhat dull and slightly impatient, "I am a guard of the storehouses here, Scaleless One. I wouldn't know about any vegetables." This newcomer had failed to strike his interest and he'd already grown tires of his presence.
Scaly fingers pointed down towards the way he'd come- the palace, "The gardens and kitchen stores are a more suitable place to begin your search. In any case, we don't grow many of them here- I suspect that your institution provided for most of the plants that will be consumed by its students during the coming feast. Besides," The Treachu guard crossed his arms and shifted his weight from one foot to the other, eying his unwanted guest with suspicion, "Why would the king even bother to send his invited guests on errand runs? Don't you think this to be rather rude or inappropriate?"

That told him all he needed to know; this was definitely not a guard, no matter how much he was pretending to be. So, now that Ginseku had established that, he felt no remorse in rebutting. "3 things." Ginseku crossed his arms nonchalantly, pacing back and forth in short strides in front of the 'Guard', trying to keep warm. "First," Ginseku eyed the Guard in suspicion. " Treachu don't have a 'Freezer', and even if they did, their diet does not consist heavily enough of vegetables for them to need to store them for extended periods of time, as opposed to simply picking and cleaning them when they are needed in a dish; thus, they would not know the effects of storing vegetables in a freezer." Ginseku continued pacing, looking up here and there before going on to the next item on his list. "Second, A guard would be informed of what they would be guarding, in order to properly prioritize their attention. If you were guarding a shack full of gold and a shack full of salt, which one would you pay more attention to? It wouldn't make sense to guard all resources equally, as they have different values." Ginseku stopped in place and stood before the 'Guard', coming to his last point. "And finally, while your acting is rather superb, and your information gathering is ample enough that you would get away with this act if it were someone else, you should know; Your Aura doesn't match that of the other guards." Ginseku nodded once with a self-assured attitude; He was certain that this 'guard' would come clean with him now. "So, why don't you be honest, and tell me who you are?" Ginseku eyed the guard, not sure whether he would attack.

The guard let out a long stream of air, "While your case is well grounded enough, you do miss out on several points, Scaleless One." He buried the hilt of the spear in the snowy ground before crossing his arms again, lifting a finger from the exposed hand after each point, "Your first argument assumes that plants are only useful for consumption. While we do not have an adequate demand for it in our diet, Treachu also suffer from sickness." He shifted his stance, extending the leg not under his weight further out to the side, "This is more than enough reason for agriculture to rise in some parts of our territories- normally under more favorable climates, and to develop a need to store these for longer periods of time. While you might argue that the lower plains would be detrimental to our cold-blooded physiology, we have developed adequate technology for inter-stellar travel, so climate-suits aren't too much of a far-cry."
He circled around his spear as to keep the accuser in front of him and the spear at his side, "Secondly; we normally hunt for our meat, but as you humans certainly know... animals don't stay put for the harsher months of the year. This means that we would have to store our meat- both by salting them, or in this case, use the cold peaks of the mountains to do the job for us. The royal house also decided to make an extension of the palace in order to enjoy these colder environments as well."
He gestured towards the heady door that led to the storehouse, adding another argument to the discussion, "Your second argument is also irrelevant to the subject. We were discussing vegetables, not salt or gold... while our duty does include prioritizing the value of the items under our care, this does not apply because we are not discussing anything that is under my care. Only that which I am guarding is relevant- if you need anything else, you ask another guard."
The guard flexed his arms and the surrounding muscle, growing slightly stiff from standing cross-armed, "Also, I'm sure you are well aware of Treachu lifespans. This gives us an excellent change to pursue extensive education in general studies. We have an obligation to serve under the guard after we reach a certain age just as we are able and allowed to practice the arcane arts, as you call them. This is enough to change our auras in accordance to the schools we practice." At this point, one could scarsely tell a sense of contempt in his voice, which was well-hidden before, "What I choose to practice in my own time is my business, Scaleless One, if that includes something that would normally drag your young and feeble minds into a dark path, then so be it. But do not make the mistake that I am something other than what I am."

Ginseku laughed heartily, not wanting to go further into deductive reasoning with him; He knew what he knew and he wasn't going to argue it any further. Ginseku also found it rather interesting that the guard HAD protection against the cold; That took away his only other suspicion in the matter. "Tell me then, if you are so well-on in medicine and climate suits and such, what happened just a few minutes ago that would make you go limp as a tadpole?" Ginseku pulled on his shirt, after poking wing-holes for himself; he was tired of holding his wings down, and they were getting cramped. "You misunderstand me entirely, Sir. When I say that your Aura is different from the others, i mean that it is very...Human. Treachu have a very strong inner resonance but don't project outer resonance like humans do; I believe this to be the effects of being warm or cold-blooded. While all of the Guards i've met up until now have had a condensed aura," Ginseku motioned to the guard. " Yours projects in waves, as a human's does." Ginseku took away his hand. "And you still haven't answered my question. I asked who you were."

The Treachu grinned somewhat maliciously as he finished, "Alright then, enough of the silvered tongues. I'm growing tired of arguments..." The guard picked up the spear and thrust its shaft against the nearby wall, the iron morphing into a black volcanic glass- taking the shape of a clawed hand grasping an orb of the same material that glowed in a ghastly shade of green as shadows danced across its surface. Shadows cast by the surrounding landscape coalesced around him as the staff was thrust into the air and brought back down with a fierce 'clang' against the stones beneath the snow. When they dispersed, Varon's true manifestation remained down to every detail- even down to his preferred clothing.
The sorcerer stretched lightly before staring at the company, motioning with wide arms to present himself, "Varon, youngest master of the hidden Necroversity." He assumed the arrogant posture that was common to him before inquiring, "Now, it's rude to ask a name before revealing your own."

"It's also quite rude to hide your appearance and lie about it. I guess that makes us a rude couple, then." Ginseku wasn't impressed by Varon's transfiguration, but he was appreciative of the energy that went into properly doing it, and he had a bit more of Ginseku's respect for it. Ginseku gestured calmly to himself with a small bow. " I am Ginseku Shirokiba. Now that we've established that, might I ask what your intentions in hiding your appearance and name were? I can understand being of a defensive nature, but you must admit, that little back and forth, we could've done without." Ginseku was getting rather pissed off at how cold the environment was, but since he couldn't speak in his true form, and he couldn't stay warm in human form, he threw a suggestion out there for Varon's consideration. "Now, while I'm sure you enjoy this piercing cold, I'm rather partial to a warmer climate. Do you think we could discuss this in a different setting?"

Varon laughed at his suggestion, "Well, I never cared much for courtesy to begin with." Neither did he care about accusations of hypocrisy, but that was an unnecessary point, his guest might argue. Fresh from the morph spell, his body remained somewhat stiff and a few twists of his neck and limbs and popping of the entire length of his spine limbered up any important muscles. His question seemed somewhat useless- it seemed clear that he didn't require any motive to lie, but he laughed none the less, "You're a man of practicality and action- I, on the other hand was brought up by people of cunning manipulation and rhetoric. Lying is part of my nature, you might argue."
Varon raised an eyebrow at his suggestion, and motioned towards the lower levels, and spoke in a questioning and somewhat sharp tongue "You mean out where the sun shines with more fierce intensity than most of the places I've previously encountered?" He turned on his heels and walked slowly towards a more favorable environment for his guest, "Sure, I could use a walk to limber up."

Ginseku wasn't sure what part about Varon was mentally likable; He had already lied to him, and Ginseku wasn't one to easily forgive that. Yet, he forgave Varon very quickly for it, and he didn't think twice in his decision to simply let it go. "If you would prefer, we could visit the pools so it isn't so uncomfortable for you. Or, you could simply change your clothing; Black does retain the most heat." Ginseku walked calmly in front of Varon, and pushed the door open, keeping it open for a moment while Varon passed through, before releasing it.

Varon shrugged, "Well, what can I say? I've spent most of my late childhood and recent life in the perpetual snow of the Italian Alps- especially underground facilities there that used witchlights instead of fire for lighting. I'm used to the cold and dark corners of the world." As he passed through the threshold, Varon began to summon shadows about him, forming swirling clouds of dark mist that blocked most of the sunlight and potential sunburn. He looked back at Gin, a smirk crossing his features, "Or I could do this..." As the sunlight from a nearby window struck him, you could see a shifting oval-shaped shadow in place of his own, "So... black retains heat, does it?" He said with a somewhat playful arrogance before continuing back down the hall, "Where to?"
