Ili'ella hummed to herself as she walked, her head tilted up to face the sky. Her bright colours stood out against the dull landscape around her. There was a small lake nearby, which she had been resting by while the heat of the day passed her by. It was fast approaching night time now, and the heat was fading a little. It made it a comfortable temperature to walk in. Ili'ella wasn't silly, she knew it was better to walk at night then through the day, so she would rest while she waited for the sun to fade.

“Starry, starry night,
” she sung softly to herself as she padded away from the lake, watching the sky. Stars wouldn't be out for hours still, but the song came out none the less, “paint your pallet blue and grey, look out on a summers day, with eyes that know the darkness in my soul.”

Ili'ella had been traveling for days by herself. She was happy none the less, because when she was alone, her voice could echo around her, making her feel as if someone else was with her. A poor substitute for company, but it helped stave away the loneliness for a little longer while she searched. For what, was she searching? She wasn't sure, but one day she'd find it.

“Now I understand what you tried to say to me, how you suffered for your sanity~”

He was woken from his slumber at the sound of a singing voice, so that at first he thought it was his sister Safura, singing him a lullaby to tease him. Blinking, a huge yawn escaped him as he shook the last bit of sleep away. Wondering where the singing was coming from, he looked around, soon spotting a lioness who stood out--and he meant really stood out--as she wandered into his path of view. It was late afternoon, maybe even early evening, he noticed. Ah, he'd napped a touch too long. Well, at least he wasn't hungry when he woke up.

His paws moved before he realized it, heading towards the bright yellow lioness, and he wondered to himself why he was going towards her. It was probably because she'd woken him up with her singing--not that it was bad--but he did want to greet her and say hello. It was rare for him to run across a lioness in the Rogue Lands (besides his sister), though he himself mostly wandered from place to place, never really settling anywhere, and he preferred that. His home was where he rested, and that suited him fine.

"Hello, there," he called over to her.

Ili'ella had begun to hum, the lyrics of the song escaping her as she moved. It wasn't truly about the lyrics anyway, it was about the story and the beat. She unconsciously slow her steps, using her heavy steps as an almost drum beat. Soon, she heard another set of drums, and she glanced up to see a grey tinted lion moving towards her. Her blue eyes widened at the sight but she didn't step back, nor did she panic. He didn't seem threatening, despite his lack of bold colours. She knew her own coat was strange, being so vivid but to see someone with so little vividness, it was a surprise.

“Hello,
” she called back, her voice melodious like a song. She moved towards him, so it would not be only him that crossed the distance between him. Her eyes took in his appearance, surprised at how his colours blended in with the backgrounds. One thing stood out to her and she seemed to smile at him through her eyes, though her mouth didn't move.

“I like your ears,” she said, glancing at the little flash of pink by his grey mane. She did realise how strange that sounded, but it didn't seem to bother her as she continued to examine his coat.

He blinked, and then laughed. His ears? That was the first thing that came out of her mouth after "hello"? She certainly was an interesting little bright lioness. "Well, thank you, I think," he answered, shaking with mirth. "I can't say I quite like anything of yours in particular, but I would like your name, if you don't mind," he smiled gently at her. "I'm Agen'theluji, but most around here call me Agen, since my name's so long." Everything about the lioness screamed "sunny" and clear blue skies: hell, Agen figured she probably was the sun, with her coloring. He'd never seen a lioness so bright... how the hell did she survive!? All the prey probably notice her right away--maybe, if she was hungry, he'd help her out a little.

In the Rogue lands, it was certainly far easier to blend in to get your food compared to other lands, where the food was abundant. But not so in the Rogue lands, where it truly was "survival of the fittest"... The prey here were fleet of foot, and so, the lions that lived here all had to adopt one thing or another to survive--his sister Safura'miezi was lucky enough to have grown up with cheetahs, so she was faster than your average lioness. His sister was very capable of taking care of herself. Him? His specialty was pouncing and shocking his prey. He wasn't too big a lion, but was still rather large for one of his kind (not nearly as big as the Firekin... but still bigger than average). It was his strength that allowed him his hunting skills and to survive. He watched the blue-eyed lioness.

"I'm quite curious: how do you do it? Surviving?" he finally asked.

Ili'ella tilted her head to the side as he spoke, seeming to be shaking. He didn't seem to be cold, so she assumed that she had amused him. Her ears perked up at that, glad she had been able to cheer up the dull looking lion. His pelt was so dull, he obviously needed a little brightness in his life.

“My name is Ili'ella,” she practically sung, returning his greeting. “The sun shines bright on our meeting, Agen. We will be safe until the sun has faded, but worry not, the sun has told the moon to watch over us.” Her eyes twinkled brightly, thinking of the safety their meeting had brought. She loved meeting new people, the spirits always approved of the meeting of new souls.

She looked momentarily surprised when he questioned her. Surviving? “Why, it's easy to survive. Life is not that hard when you don't dwell on the bad and focus on the good.” It wasn't what he had meant, but it made sense to her. Continuing, she actually answered his question, “I am a poor hider and perhaps a worse hunter, but my colours attract prey for me.” She tilted her head up towards the sun, her coat glistening slightly in the sun as it always did when it was exposed to light. “It distracts them long enough for me to catch them, though larger prey rarely fall captive to it.” She only ate small prey, because she could never catch the larger ones.

What an... odd lioness she was. He just couldn't understand it... but wow, she certainly had a tough time, eh? He glanced around their surroundings; maybe he'd be able to take down a water buffalo somewhere and offer it to her. He was pretty sure she never even tasted antelope, what with how she only caught small prey... not to mention, she somewhat reminded him of his little sister. He felt that he should take care of her needs... at least for the moment. Sadly, though, Agen was rather... lazy. So to speak. Well, from what he could tell: no water buffalo in sight, though he managed to scent antelope a little distance away. Were he and Ili'ella downwind? Interesting.

"You don't seem the type who likes to hide anyway," he remarked, a crooked smile thrown in her direction. "Safe till the sun's faded? Rather, I think we'd be safer when the moon's out, don't you?" Of course, he and his sister had both been named after the moon, since they were pale and silver just like it. Of course, he would never say so to this lioness, who was quite literally the... opposite. "I think the smaller prey tend to be clueless anyway. Say, why don't I get you an antelope? I'm rather hungry myself, y'know, so I figured I'd offer. Ever had antelope, Ella?" Whoops, there went the nicknaming. Hope she didn't mind too much.

Ili'ella was paying little attention to anything else except the male in front of her, watching him curiously as he spoke. He was quite a nice lion, despite he had such dull colours. Perhaps coats didn't affect personalities? Strange, but possible. She shifted, raising her eyes to the sky as she watched it. "The sun is as kind as the moon," she told him brightly, "to those who are kind to it."

Her eyes widened slightly when he suggested getting her food. She was surprised. She had met many travelers but had never had one suggest they feed her, most were eager to move on after only a little time with the flamboyant lioness. She didn't seem to notice the nickname at all, more intrigued with his offer of antelope.

"Once," she offered, replying to his last question. "When I was very young. My mother brought it home for my siblings and I." She tilted her head to the side, unable to bring the taste back to her mind. She couldn't remember eating it, but she remembered her mother's pride when she'd dragged it home for her hungry cubs.

"If you're honest in your offering, then I would love to try it once again," her eyes lit up once more, looking at Agen like he was her new hero and he was. She was used to hunting alone, and hunting small food. To be offered something like this was, to her, a very big deal.

Ah, so she did light up like the sun. That was great. She reminded him a bit of his sister, whenever something nice was offered for her. He chuckled, and nodded. "I'm quite honest in my offer, Ella. In fact, since there were some antelope bouncing around... I was wondering if you'd help me a little." He snuck a glance over to where he was sure there were the big herbivores munching at grass peacefully, and he smiled... well, more smirked. "Actually, the antelope around here have never seen a lioness like you... probably you could help me catch them... they'll certainly be intrigued by your physique... and I'll have a feast for you when it's all over and done with." She seemed like she could use a treat--and so did he, if his stomach had anything to say about it.

So, she'd had antelope once... as a cub. That wasn't surprising. He wondered how her family had felt, to finally taste the flesh of antelope... and apparently, it had been long since Ili'ella had eaten it. That was fine... well, Agen smiled kindly at Ella. "Of course, I can still kill the antelope, one way or another, if you'd prefer to sit and watch, Ella. It bothers me little, since... once the sun sets, it's my hunt..." His smile changed from kind to mysterious as he began to stalk off in the direction of the grazing antelope, determined to offer this treat for Ili'ella. He figured she could use something cheerful to sing about, after all. To Agen, this was nothing. He was ever always hunting for food for him and his sister (he hated to admit that Safura was faster at getting food than he was but... well, look who she grew up with!!), so sharing food was nothing to him.

His pale grey eyes were narrowed into slits as he watched his prey's movements. If Ili'ella decided to help, it would be a welcome distraction... these antelope didn't scare easily from a bright lioness, more so because they probably would think that, since they'd already seen her, she'd leave them alone, just because she stood out. However, that was different from Agen'theluji--because he could blend in so well with his surroundings... they would never suspect him... Agen waited patiently.

"I would be happy to help, Agen!"
She said brightly, peering around at the surroundings. She did not hunt often, so she had no real need for strong hunting senses. She couldn't smell the antelope, but she trusted him that he said they were there, somewhere. "A feast? You're going to spoil me," she said, laughing lightly with her eyes glimmering in gratitude. She was used to looking after herself, it was a nice change.

She followed along behind the lion, trying to seem as inconspicuous as possible and not get in his way. She tried to stay out of view when she finally spotted the antelope, but, remembering his words, moved out from her hiding spot. The ground of Antelope seemed to pause, and stare at her. She smiled brightly and friendly at them.

"Oh, don't be afraid," she sung softly, to keep them distracted in case Agen wanted to pounce while they were watching her. "The sun will welcome you home." She felt mildly bad at playing at part in their demise, but she was hungry and if she didn't eat, she would die and she couldn't pay a part in her own demise, it just didn't work out like that.

He smiled at the way Ili'ella distracted the antelope, and after a bit more scoping around, he spotted the perfect prey to tackle down. He approached the herd in almost a round about way, but with how the bright yellow lioness was singing gently and talking to them with an unknown kindness that these creatures did not know, it made it rather simple. Besides, he was a cat, of sorts. All cats walked with no sound, not to mention the wind was currently in his favor. All was going well. He got a bit closer, zeroing in on his prey, and then, he pounced, scattering the group as he killed his prey with triumph.

He let out a loud, victorious roar as he had tackled down a large buck, and promptly began to drag it over towards Ili'ella. "Here, Ella," he offered with a wide smile. "You get first pick, because your part was vital in the hunt of this creature who offered its life to sustain our own." His sister had always scolded him to make sure to thank the grass-eaters for giving their lives for theirs, the meat-eaters, because that was the way of life. It would be unfair to hunt them down for pleasure, because as the grass-eaters died away, the hunters soon would too. Still, it mattered little--his way of thanking the grass-eater now lay dead at Ili'ella's paws. Sharing food was his own silent way of saying 'thank you'--he still found it strange to thank the grass-eaters, but it didn't matter, he supposed.

"Have yourself a feast, dear Ella," he spoke kindly. "I can wait, for I eat these types a lot--you, from what you say, treat this specially. A gift for a bountiful friendship to build, in fact," he added after a bit of thought. It was always good to make a friend or two--they always did come in handy at the most interesting times, after all. And, like his sister, he enjoyed making friends and knowing many others. It was something that ran in their blood: wanting to make friends.

Ili'ella watched in a type of stunned fascination as the larger male managed to take down the antelope. She felt bad for it's early death but she was hungry and she too deserved to live. She smiled warmly at Agen as he dragged the carcass over to her, surprised at his offer to let her eat first. "...thank you," she said, her smile brightening abruptly to almost blinding. She had never been given first pick at a kill before. She had been one of the eldest cubs in her family, which meant the younger ones got to eat first.

Before she moved towards the kill, her stomach grumbling happily at the promise of food, she moved instead towards Agen. She rubbed her face against his shoulder, her own way of saying thanks. Usually she would rub her cheek against his, but that seemed too intimate a move to be done without his permission. She pulled back, eyes dancing. "Thank you," she repeated, before moving back to the kill.

Flopping down on her stomach before it, she first licked the skin, saying in her head a thanks to the creature for allowing itself to be sacrificed so she could live. After the prayer was said, she bit down hair into the skin, pulling at the flesh and allowing the almost sweet tasting meat to fill her senses. For a few moments, she allowed herself to be greedy and ate by herself, before her pulling back and motioning for Agen to join her. "I insist, you brought it down, you must feast too." She moved over, so they would not struggle to find meat while both were eating.

"Since you insist," he teased, "I shall do as the lovely lady bids." Agen indulged himself on the dead antelope at the prodding of Ili'ella, and chuckled at her display of affection. He didn't mind, but he only ate bits and pieces and silently motioned for Ili'ella to enjoy herself on the meat. She was... rather cute, and reminded him a lot of his sister. "...And you're quite welcome. It was my pleasure, little one." She was a curious lioness, and one he figured he wouldn't mind running into often. He hoped she found happiness in her life, for it seemed she had a sadness that was hidden deep within her soul.

He couldn't put his claw on it, but he would bet that because of her bright color... well, he wasn't so sure about her background story, but he supposed it was fine. His sister would tease him for being so laid back and just going with the flow, but Agen found that his way of life kept him from falling back into his past miseries... And his way of life kept him out of the path of those vengeful types that he somehow made enemies of. He wasn't sure how... well, he knew how, but he didn't like to dwell on such things... such was his personality. "Ella, I hope we do meet again in the future... perhaps I shall hunt for you again, it was such fun." His eyes twinkled in merriment and an obvious fondness. "I would be saddened if I did not run into you again in the future, you see."

Ili'ella was pleased when he began to eat as well, feeling better now that she was not hogging all the meat to herself. However, he seemed to be nibbling only, to her amusement, and still allowed her to take most of the meat. She did not protest, instead, enjoying all of the food laid before her until her stomach was full and she pulled back, licking at her maw to remove the blood which was likely staining her golden mouth.

She looked surprised, then pleased at his words. "I would enjoy that very much, Agen," she told him, very honestly. He was a wonderful male, she decided, and someone she would very much like to meet more. "I am sure we will meet again." She placed a paw on his, her smile bright. "I wish you all the happiness you can find in your life, but I know you will find it with or without my well wishes." He was simply the kind of male that would find his happy ending. He was too sweet to remain alone, she decided, and continued to smile, but removed her paw.

At first, he was somewhat shocked when Ili'ella touched him in such a gentle way--a way he had not felt since he was young. Though he had been reunited with his sister Safura'miezi, both of them had haunted looks of days--seasons--gone wrong. Ili'ella was practically like a shining beacon of light--literally, he laughed to himself, with her color--and he truly appreciated her kindness. She softened his heart slightly, and he hoped she found joy in all things--and especially love. She was a lioness who should not wander by herself; a lioness who needed a lion to appreciate her inner--and of course outer, for she was a lovely lioness--beauty.

He felt slightly shy when she smiled at him, but waved the feeling away. "Then I hope you don't mind if I ever do run into you again," he laughed. "Because I will probably go hunting for you again, since you rarely enjoy this kind of food... although, for all I know, the next time we meet you'll have cubs and wonderful mate." His eyes twinkled with a sincerity he hoped she saw. "I really do hope you also have joy in your life, and I feel that with your well wishes I'm surely on my way to finding happiness." He grinned broadly as he ate a little bit more of the meat that Ili'ella hadn't finished, filling himself for another journey he would make once this little adventure was done. He really did hope to run into Ella again; she was the type who could always bring a smile to his face.

Ili'ella smiled at him, laughing a little at his comment. "I will always welcome you, whether you hunt for me or not," she told him honestly. She shifted, looking embarrassed and giggled. "A mate? Cubs? It sounds like a dream," she mused. It was not that she did not want cubs, or a mate, she just couldn't see herself finding a man who would actually understand her wandering ways.

"Thank you, Agen," she said softly, pleased with his sincere words. "Life will be good to us, I hope, and bring us back together when we are happy and found the joy we seek - though if we meet again before then, I am still happy to find your company!" She beamed at him. Her stomach was full now, pleasantly round with food. She hadn't eaten that well in a fair while and she was thankful for Agen for his kindness. She stretched a little, enjoying the feeling of being relaxed and full.
