It was lunch time, it was raining and Louisa was well in all bored. She was so use to being outside at lunch time to be stuck inside seemed a little odd for her. She settled down at a table in the cafeteria, keeping away from most people. She had some folders out getting some work done while she was eating. She was sure she could do some work while eating instead of reading as she had a table might as well make the most of it.
Oh how she hated the rain when it meant she was stuck inside. She loved to be outside, loved it. So being stuck inside and in a cafeteria at that was well slightly torturous. Well she would get out later and take Smudge for a walk and get sopping wet. It would be great.
So Louisa sat at her table doing her history assignment. It wasn't anything really interesting, just about the world wars and what it is we could learn from them. Silly really as Louisa was sure that the people in power would never learn from anything they did. So instead of writing her history assignment she was doodling pictures of Smudge. Oh how she adored her pup.

Dani, too, hated it when it rained. She especially hated it when it rained and she was already in a bad mood, because it did little but push her further down the path of grumpiness. Today was, well, just not a very good day. Neverminding the fact that she couldn't go outside and enjoy her lunch in the sunshine, no matter how cold it actually was, she was having some trouble juggling her lunch tray, a drink, and her broken arm.
Anyone who offered to help was snappily refused, and by the time she made it across the cafeteria, her beans had spilled over onto her pizza - ew, total ew - and her expression was truly forbidding. She couldn't blame people for abruptly looking away when she glanced around for a place to sit, even though it irritated her a bit at the same time.
The only person, actually, who hadn't seemed to notice her was Louisa, and that was probably because she was bent over a school book of some kind, apparently doing work. Or, as she got closer and peered down, doodling.
Either way, the table was mostly empty, so Dani unceremoniously dropped her tray onto the surface of it. The beans leapt into the air, falling back and landing smartly on her pizza, and she sighed heavily.
"Stupid arm." Oh God, she had four to six weeks of this?
School her expression into what passed for a smile, she asked calmly, "Do you care if I sit here?"

Louisa looked up as the tray appeared to fall on to her table. She smiled and looked up at the girl who she had seen about but never spoken to, like most in the school.
"Sure and you can have my pizza if you want, I'm not hungry at all really." She smiled and then continued doodling. She had noticed the broken arm and so thought it best to look at her doodles, after all no one liked to be stared at! Louisa hated people staring at her which is why she was generally found at tables by herself where she could pretend she was completely alone. Though of course she didn't mind the company now and then.
"Oh I am Louisa by the way, I don't think we have met." She started talking while looking at her doodles though she did look up at the girl while she introduced herself. She knew how to be polite, most of the time anyhow.

Louisa didn't immediately gape and demand like, oh my God, what happened to your arm? which instantly put her in Dani's good books. She was tired of regurgitating the same old lie, and even more tired of the pitying looks that people offered her when they saw her struggling to do something. She was fiercely independent, and very capable on a good day, so the whole having one limb down thing was really getting on her nerves.
Especially since it was her writing hand. It looked like she was trying to do her assignments with her feet at the moment, and she was getting pretty ticked off about it. The teachers were mostly understanding, though it was taking her twice as long as it would have otherwise to complete even simple assignments, just because she had to try to make her writing legible.
It was just lame. Lame, lame, lame.
Sliding into the seat, she glared at her pizza one last time before shifting her gaze to the other girl, interest coming into her face. She'd seen Louisa around, but they'd never really spoken - probably her fault, since Dani tended to always be doing something at school. If they had ever been partnered on a project she would've done her best to make friends, but it seemed like they'd managed to always be in someone else's group. Well, oh well. There was no time like the present to make a new friend.
"Thanks, but I'll just eat my beany pepperoni." Though the thought was entirely unappetizing, she picked up the slice in one hand and dumped the beans off onto her plate. "I'm Dani, by the way. I can't believe we've never really spoken. It's like, there's so many students, so it's easy sometimes, but it's still kind of surprising."

Louisa just looked up and nodded and then decided she should probably eat some food after all wasn't that the point of lunch time? So she picked her pizza up and took a bite then wished she really hadn't done that. Oh well.
"It's nice to meet you Dani, I am Louisa." She only spoke once she had finished her mouthful and deciding she wasn't going to eat any more pizza. "I find its not hard to not meet people in a school this size but hey we have properly met now." She smiled trying her hardest to at least seem nice.
"Oh you aren't missing out with the pizza, it tastes horrible." She shuddered to prove a point and then chuckled a little. She was always smiling, always, had to seem cheery and happy. Truth be said Louisa just wanted to be liked just sometimes she tried too hard to be liked.

"It does," Dani agreed, smiling despite the taste of the pizza. Louisa was endearing herself rapidly to Dani, though at this point, anyone who didn't immediately gawk at her would be able to do the same. Still, it was nice to meet a relatively new face and strike up a conversation. She could always use more friends, right? Considering she didn't get along with 75% of the people she knew at the moment.
She pushed her beans around with disinterest, then gave up and opened her milk. "I wish I'd had time to pack my lunch today. Usually I bring food from home, which is way better, but I was in a rush."
Her hair was still wet, she thought with mild irritation. Though she usually spent a great deal of time in the bathroom making certain it was dry and properly styled, everything took longer with one arm. Everything.

Louisa smiled and listened, watching Dani playing with her food. Louisa did want to ask about the girls arm but she avoided looking at the cast and wished to completely ignore the fact. She knew she would hate people asking her about things like that if she had ever done it. Louisa had never broken an arm, or any bone at that.
"I always forget to bring my lunch, I make it the day before so I don't forget to make it or run out of time but always end up forgetting to pick it up." She chuckled a little as she spoke realising how dumb that made her sound. Oh well, she had a habit of forgetting important things, like food. Maybe she would remember tomorrow, this pizza really was bad.

Rather than think she was dumb, Louisa's confession only inspired Dani to feel more kindly toward her. Being a little ditzy was all right, after all - she was the same way from time to time. Not as often as some people, of course, but that was really neither here nor there.
"If my stupid arm wasn't broken, I'd have packed my own lunch." Her tone was petulant, and her brows drew together in a faint frown as she spoke. Maybe it was because Louisa hadn't said anything about her arm, but Dani found she didn't mind bringing it up. It was pretty obvious it was broken, anyway, given the purple cast.
Giving up on her lunch, she propped her chin up in her good hand, looking across the table with interest at Louisa. The other girl seemed friendly enough, so why was she sitting alone? A question like that would be totally tactless, and even though she was straightforward, Dani at least tried to be polite. Still, it seemed a little strange.
Was she secretly crazy? Maybe. She didn't like to assume things about people, though.
"So, are you friends home sick or something?" There, that was a good way to phrase it. Surely she had some friends! They were probably just out or something. Everyone had friends, right?

Louisa listened and just nodded as Dani mentioned her broken arm. "Hopefully you will be packing your own lunch again soon then." She smiled as she spoke but didn't say anything more about the broken arm. She would have loved to ask about it and find out how it happened but she was sure Dani would tell her if she wanted to. Louisa just kept her smile and listened as Dani started speaking again.
Everyone had friends yes but Louisa had acquaintances. She always met people at school, she would help them out but ever see them again? Well of course sometimes she would bump in to them and say hi but no, she hadn't really made any friends. She had Bree but Bree was her cousin and goodness knows where she was today.
"Erm... Bree is somewhere..." It was a lame answer because Bree didn't always sit with her anyway. Bree had her own friends after all.

Okay, so conversation was like trying to get oil from a rock. That was all right; she'd handled Parker, hadn't she? Though he actually seemed to like to talk, just not about anything she considered general conversation topics. Louisa was a teenage girl; surely they had something in common! Surely.
"I'll be back in action in no time at all!" For a moment, her expression clouded over. "Though I'm going to be totally out of shape when it comes to climbing. Ugh, it's going to take me weeks to get back to where I was before I broke my arm."
That was a truly depressing thought indeed, and not one she really wanted to linger on. Instead, she asked, "Do you climb at all? Rock climbing, I mean."
It was a start, right?

The girl climbed? This surprised Louisa though how she broke her arm was rather obvious now even if it wasn't the real reason.
"Climb? No not really, not like properly anyway. I do occasionally climb up large rocks and part way up cliffs to get good photos, like I climb tree's a lot because you can get the best photos being up in a tree!" She was proving just how much of a loner she was as she was getting excited about climbing tree's to take photos. It didn't bother Louisa much though who would want to climb tree's with her to sit while she takes some photos?
"I do hope you will be able to climb again soon enough." She really meant that too, if she couldn't take photos or play with her dogs, she would die of boredom!

It was a little disappointing to learn that Louisa didn't climb, but then, she rarely met someone her own age who was as devoted to the activity center as she was. Nevertheless, Dani brightened at the topic, having never tried photography as a real hobby before. She'd taken pictures, of course, buy they were the simple kind, the ones you took so that when you flipped through your digital camera you could grin at the results. She did have a nice camera - maybe she ought to make better use of it!
"So, you like photography? Do you ever sell any pictures or anything?" That would be cool. Dani saw some really neat things on her walks, and she was sure if she ever had her camera on her, she could snap a photo that would sell. Definitely.

Louisa smiled as Dani started talking about photography. Louisa could talk about that for hours if given the chance.
"I haven't sold any no but I do sometimes send some out to magazines or newspapers if I am at the right place at the right time kind of thing." She smiled knowing that at least a couple of her prints had been in a magazine or two but it was never something she really spoke about. She kept very much to herself and so very rarely mentioned that her photos were actually pretty good.
"So you take any photos?" She kind of hoped that she did, if only to have something in common!

"Oh, sure. Doesn't everyone?" Dani chose to ignore the comment about the magazines, only because she didn't have anything useful to add to it. If Louisa was sending her pictures to magazines, they were probably pretty good! Unless they didn't get published, which meant they weren't as good as she thought they were. Either way, until Dani had a magazine in her hands that held Louisa's pictures, she couldn't comment on it further.
She took a drink of her milk, set it aside once more. "I got a camera for my birthday last year. It's pretty nice. I haven't been taking many pictures with it lately, though."
Truth be told, she rarely used it. If she took it with her on her runs, it would only irritate her, and if she took it to school, she ran the risk of it getting stolen. She had plenty of pictures of home, her parents, her dogs, but aside from that, not a lot.
Maybe she'd take it out next time she went on a leisure walk.

Louisa nodded.
"Yeah I suppose so. What else are you in to?" She thought it best to move the conversation on. Louisa seemed to like this girl, she seemed easy to talk to. She needed some friends after all, there had to be something else they were both interested in.
"Do you have any pets?" She just had to hope that the girl did have some pets then they would have a lot to talk about. Louisa could talk about animals forever and a day. It would take a lot to shut her up when she got talking if animals was the topic.
