Aleu had woke up before the sun had risen above the horizon this morning. She was excited about hearing the birds sing to greet the morning. But she knew that within the safety of the den she could not hear them clearly. So she did the only thing she knew she could do, wake up her mother and ask her if she could go sit just outside the den entrance to listen to them. In her groggy just woken up moment her mother had agreed to her sitting outside but only if she remained within sight of the den entrance. So doing what her mother had told her Aleu left the warmth of the den and ventured out into the crisp morning air taking a seat not far from the den entrance. She left enough room between her and the entrance that others could come and go without her getting in their way, but that her mother could still see her. As the sun peeked over the horizon the forest came alive with different sounds. Birds began to chirp their songs, int he far distance she could hear the river that her father loved and the gentle rustling of the leaves in the morning wind all sang to her. She closed her eyes and listened intently to their rhythms. Her tail began to tap the ground to match one of the bird songs she was hearing and soon she began to hum along. Her head bobbing as she added her own voice to the morning song.

Derecho woke up shortly after Aleu, he however had still been sleeping when she had asked permission to be out of the Den and so upon waking and seeing one of his darling siblings disobeying the rules..and he told himself possibly placing themselves in danger, or at least that would be his excuse if their parents woke and caught them, Derecho scrabbled to his feet and trotted outside with a scowl on his face.
He had to admit it was unusual to find Aleu disobeying, normally it was Tempest up to such things. And what exactly as Aleu doing anyways...bobbing her head about like that. As he got closer he could make out the sound of her humming..great...another song, just what he wanted to wake up to in the morning he told himself with a long suffering sigh.
"You know your not supposed to be out here" He told his sibling in a gruff voice before plopping down beside her.

Aleu's humming came to a sudden stop as her brother spoke. She opened her eyes and glared at him. "You interrupted my song!" She said sourly. How dare he do such a thing, didn't he understand how important singing was to her. Brothers. She watched him sit down beside her and sighed.
"I asked mother if I could come out to listen to the birds. She said that was okay as long as I stayed in sight of her." She retorted back to him. She knew under normal circumstances that she wasn't supposed to be out her unless there was an adult to watch her. But she had gotten permission from her mother and she was the most trusted of the pups since she never wished to stray from the den.

Derecho arched one tiny puppy brow at his sister as she fused at him for interruption her song, he didn't really see what the big deal was - she sang songs all day long, if he didn't interrupt her once in a while odds are they'd never speak! "Oh you'll just start a new one as soon as I leave" He responded before casting a look back in into the den.
"Mother is sleeping" He told her after a few moments, clearly accusing her of lying to him about asking "but i won't tell if you don't" He continued with a slight grin.

"But I liked that one, it was very pretty." She stated in regards to the song he had interrupted. This was the reason why she stuck close to the den while the others were more adventurous, it meant less interruptions for her singing. Her gaze moved back to the den and then to her brother.
"I woke her up and asked her. She said I could and then went back to sleep." She sighed glancing out amongst the trees as the rays of the sun dances between their trunks. "Why do you care if I'm out here? Don't you have better things to do?"

"Most of your songs are pretty" He grudgingly admitted, Derecho might come off as a bit of a grump, but that was the price you had to pay when you had a bunch of siblings to watch over and despite some of his actions he really did love his siblings - and showed them in his own way, such as a gruff compliment like he'd just offered Aleu...or a bit of help like he'd given Tempest and her rocks.
"Not really" He answered her question, it was too early in the morning to have much else to bother with - especially with everyone else asleep for the moment and since Aleu rarely lied he was willing to believe she had indeed woken up their mother and asked if she could come outside. Yawning slightly he lowered himself to the ground so he was laying beside her and placed his head on the his paws. "Why don't you make a song about the sunrise, I bet everyone would like that" He suggested.

Her tail began to wag happily as he spoke. So he did like her songs after all, and all this time she thought he hated her singing. She would have to be sure to sing to him more often since he clearly approved of her songs. Ah yes and she would definitely need to write a song about him.
"That's a great idea!" She exclaimed. Why hadn't she thought about making a song about the sunrise before. Oh there were so many things to sing about it would be hard to sing about them all. Her tail wagged faster at the thought of her sunrise song. The birds continued to chirp their morning songs, and she thought that would be the perfect beat for hers.
"Oh the sunrise, greets my eyes, the bird chirp along, with my song.
Its cold in the morning, I had no warning, that Derecho was coming until he stopped my humming"
It wasn't the best song ever but it was a start right? All great performers had to start somewhere. She looked at her brother, he surely would love that song, since it talked about him and the sunrise. "Do you like it?"

Derecho listened to her song in silence, she had a pretty voice his sister so he thought she did alright - and if it made her happy he'd endeavor to listen to her tunes more often he supposed. "Well you sure came up with it quick enough" He remarked somewhat surprised - he'd thought maybe that suggestion would keep her occupied for a little while longer - he should have known better however, such things just came naturally to Aleu.
"It was good' He told her after a few more moments and wondered briefly if his bit of niceness was going to condemn him to a life of listening to such things forever...nah she'd outgrow it probably, I mean no one saw adult going about singing all the time now did they? "So did you only come out here to sing or did you have other plans?"

Aleu nodded her head, yes she had indeed come up with that song mighty fast. "Mother says I have natural talent." She wasn't entirely sure what that meant, but it surely had something to do with her ability to sing. "I'm glad you liked it." She said as she laid down beside him.
"No I didn't have any plans. Just came out here to sing and listen to the birds. Don't you think their singing is beautiful. I wonder how they learned to sing." It was true, she really had no other reason to be outside than to listen to the birds and sing songs of her own. Plus it was nice to have a bit of quiet time before her other siblings woke up.

"How should I know, do I look like a bird?" Derecho asked her with a surly expression as she asked how birds learned to sing - it seemed like a very pointless question to him, like asking how wolves learned to howl...they just did, thats how life worked. His sisters came up with silly questions sometimes.
"And no..some of them sound awful, terrible screechy things" some of them were pretty he had to admit to himself, but Derecho didn't see the need to expand on that point , after all he's only said 'some' of them sounded awful, Aleu would be smart enough to figure out the rest. "Perhaps they learn from their parents" He offered returning to her original question.

Aleu couldn't believe her brother. How could he be so nice one moment and then mean the next. All she asked was a simple question, and now he was insulting the birds by calling them screechy things. She gave him a cold stare. "They are not screechy things, you just don't see the beauty in their songs like I do." She stated, her usually melodic voice now tinged with anger.
She turned her body so that she sat with her back facing him. She would have walked off in a huff had it not been for promising her mother she would stay in sight of the den. Brothers, she thought, they were terribly annoying.

"I guess I don't" Derecho retorted as she turned to put her back to him, he considered briefly cuffing her in the back of the head with a paw for being so terribly argumentative, but then she would probably yelp and wake up their parents - and he didn't want that. Anyways he wasn't sure what she was so cranky about - some of the birds did have awful voices..and they always woke him up in the mornings a trait he failed to find endearing.
"You see beauty in too many things Aleu, your going to get in trouble from it someday" He lectured his sister, she never saw anything bad anywhere and Derecho was terribly worried that she would one day get herself hurt because she failed to see the potential danger in a situation. Derecho wasn't silly enough to believe he could always be around to save her when she did.

Aleu glanced back at her brother, still irritated at him for insulting the birds songs. "I don't find beauty in everything." She stated. "Just in music." Why could her brother not understand that? Surely he knew how important songs and singing were to her. "And it will not get me in trouble either. If anyone gets into trouble it will be you."
She let off a small huff and then turn back to look out on the trees, trying best to ignore her brother. She knew he would retort with some comment, he always did. She saw him do this many times with her other siblings, so she prepared herself for his next lecture.

"Yeah..and you seem to think everything sings" Derecho remarked with a deep sigh, moons but his siblings were a troublesome bunch to keep grounded, at least his sisters anyways...must be a girl thing he supposed. "And no I won't - I don't have time to get into trouble, I spend all my time making sure nothing happens to you and Tempest" He continued with a slight yawn. Why couldn't his sister sleep in like the rest of the family?
Grumbling a little the pup pushed himself back into a sitting position and noticing a cricket nearby used his paw to tap his sister on the shoulder and get her attention knowing she'd spot it right off the bat - Aleu would like crickets he thought, since they made so much noise, although sometimes he wasn't sure why he was nice to them at all.

"Not everything sings." She snapped back. No she was yet to hear songs from some objects. Rocks certainly didn't seem to sing, neither did twigs laying on the ground. But clearly Derecho couldn't understand that. "You should worry more about Tempest then me." She retorted, Tempest after all was the more outgoing pup, and Aleu really couldn't imagine herself getting into trouble. She was the good puppy after all.
When the tap came she whirled around ready to bat him for bothering her, but before she could get her paw to reach him she noticed the cricket. "Oh a cricket!" She said happily, bending down to get a closer look at the little insect. She could only hope it would play its song for her, she knew they did so around this time of day and as the sun set. She kept that to herself, for she knew if she said that to her brother he would most certainly just call the crickets song annoying.
