A cold dry breeze blows through the trees. Squat skeletons take the place of hardwoods leaving awkward gaps of space between the clusters of softwoods. The usual pleasant sound of rustling leaves has been replaced by a chilly sounding whistle or creak.
Even though there are times when the sky is clear blue, the sun offers little warmth. The seasons are changing. Winter is near.
Added Thoughts... *Adahy should be busy preparing for snow as it's usually a hard time of the year. *Breedings are rare since the winters are so cold. Risky for young. *Food is harder to find. *If anyone would like to kill off their Adahy due to circumstances this season would be a good time. (I WILL NOT kill off anyone's Adahy without their permission) Creatures in Grim will be turned into 'ghosts' and are still RPable. Just with a few restrictions; such as breeding. But they can still adopt. ALL rps ghost Adahy do will be towards another's elder stage.

Mariu was a fan of this time of year, oddly despite the cold she was a fan of it. The cold was better then the heat anyway. However the child was not, she was forced to move her eyes to the smaller form of Talo that followed behind shivering a bit. She sighed moving closer to the child to offer him some protection from the wind.
"you should have stayed there..." She snorted as she searched the area. She had rigged a cruel home for them to protect him. Yet when she said she was going to search for some food he had to follow... He was just a bother at times. That day she came to find him everything said leave him to his doom that's life. However she wasn't cruel yes she was a longer but she wasn't heartless."Being alone is harder, the wind its nothing." The boy puffed his chest and walked briskly away. Despite the cold wind he tried to ignore it, shivers and chills ran down his spine but he wasn't gonna be weak. He made a promise to him self he wasn't going to be. His adopted mother raised a brow and looked at him a small smile crossed her lips.

Sayyadina had her winter home ready ages ago. At least that was what she was telling everyone. As one of the older females in the area, she took it upon herself to have a leading role in all of these important seasonal events. Now that she was rearing a young one, it was even more important.
She briskly walked through the skeletal forests, watching the other females collecting shed feathers from the area. Occasionally a male would appear, clutching some bunch of odds and ends in his mouth. Some of them even managed to skirt the dangerous edges of the forest and find scraps of human debris. Those males got the snub from Dina.. she didn't approve of such things. Mapes trotted dutifully behind her mother. She held her head high, always thinking herself more important than she was when she was with Dina. She'd learned some very valuable things though, as this was her first winter, and she was ready for the coming cold. Well that's what she thought. The same chill breeze that tugged at Mariu and Talo also nipped at Mapes's heels, causing her to pick up speed and nuzzle against Dina's side. They were not far from the other pair of mother and child. Mapes walked free once the breeze died down. She watched the other black and white adahy child being disobedient and she couldn't help but leave Dina's side to march right over to him. "You shouldn't be so bad to your mother, you know." Mapes held her head high and fixed an orange eye on him. "Our mother's give everything to keep us safe. You should be helping and collecting things!" What a sassy mouth!

It was apparent the female child was speaking harshly to him. Talo's first thought was to attack however he regained him self and totally ignored her. Even fluffing his small tail more erect in her direction. The wind had died down for a moment and it wasn't as cold as it had been. However he was sure it would pick up soon and didn't wanna use the energy to fight with her.
"I don't see you doing much to help." He called it over his shoulder not even glancing the snap of the words were apparent, the bite was far colder then the air was.
All this left Mariu just staring at the two. It was public knowledge that the two were not making friends quickly. Sighing she went back to glancing around, he wasn't gonna make friends that way. However it was a trait that at least would keep him from being nothing more then a tool. But his stubborn attitude was going to make him hated as time went on.

Watermint poked her head out from a somewhat old pile of fallen branches with a twig full of berries in her maw. what was all that commotion about? she stashed her berries in the hole under a large rock nearby before going to investigate. she was very proud of herself even if the berries where so far the only food she had found able to store. her hole was filled with downy feathers, the little puffy ones that you see getting stuck to everything, she would collect even the smallest of these little puffs and though she had a nice soft warm hole, she hadn't much food or company for being so young she was very independent and she liked it that way, she learned from observation.
she gave a cool smirk at her bickering peers and shook her head. she perked her ears at the adults and casually wandered up next to them to observe for a moment. "how much food have you gathered so far? there isn't much left huh?" she asked aloud, though more so to the older Adahy then the two her own age. she did not consider herself superior or better then them, she simply asked because she genuinely wanted to know and thought maybe they could help her.

Fruit juice dribbled out of Mudpaw's mouth. His green eyes glanced up through the branches that had very few fruit left on them. Mudpaw sighed, knowing that food would soon be hard to find. In past seasons, the adults had provided him with food during the long cold season. He was considered an adult himself now. He was now on his own to make it through the winter. Mudpaw knew all that he should be busy gathering his own hoard of food, but for now, he was hungry.
Noisy child voices reached his brown striped ears. Mudpaw grabbed another fruit from a low branch and lazily made his way towards the disturbance.

"Our den is ready!" Mapes threw her head back, striped feathers bobbing in unison with her little bit of attitude. "We are trying to help. You don't have to get so nasty. I was only giving you helpful advice." In her opinion, males seemed to be more trouble than they were worth!
Her attention was drawn to another female about her age. This one at least seemed to have some initiative, drive and survival instinct. Mapes didn't know what those things meant, but her mother always spoke of having them if you wanted to survive.
"We have enough food." Mapes responded to Watermint, throwing her tail feathers in the air and disrespectfully swinging her behind to face Talo. "Are you doing well? I'm glad to know us females have the sense to survive."
Sayyadina was not initially aware of the squabbles of the children until Watermint inquired on the state of food rations. She came over, at first just to Mariu, "I'm sorry about her. Mapes has a strong will. But I take a strict policy of letting these squabbles work themselves out."
It was evident that by the way Dina carried herself, Mapes attitude was at least partially a learned one.
Dina then approached Watermint. Though she encouraged survival instinct, she was very conscious of the state of the young. She couldn't justify letting young ones go into seasons unprepared. Death was never her goal.
"Do you need any help, young one? Do you have no mother or father to assist with a nest?"

water mint stiffened slightly when Dina adressed her, she did not have either parent to help but she was born with a good head on her shoulders and she learned quickly, so in watching others she figured out what she needed to be doing. she had a cozy hole under and between a large rock and the earth that would shelter her but she wasn't sure she had enough food stored yet. she was doing ok she thought, so she puffed out her chest and with a sure tone replied "no, but I'll be alright, I have a place out of the wind and working on food stores." she said with a nod, at the moment she was fairly confident in herself, but how long that would last even lingered as a worry in the back of her mind. she knew she was still learning and she was not yet old enough to have the experience the others had but she wasn't ready to call herself an orphan, she preferred to call her self an ' independent adolescent '
not her best cover up but it had worked out well so far.

Talo had nothing more to do other then puff up and walk away with a mild grouchy appearance. Mariu looked after him as he walked off them turned to Sayyadina and shrugged.
"It may be squabbles now but at least it will get them ready later." with that she turned to follow her angered adopted son.

"Hmph!" Mapes tossed her tiny head and instead of worrying over Talo, focused on Watermint. "Boys are so stupid. My mother says that males are only tolerable as adults because when they are children instead of having brains, their horns are kept in there.. waiting to grow out. Their brains grow in later!"
She tossed her head again, shaking her feathers and laughing. She carried herself in such a way that you knew as an adult she would use her sexuality to her benefit. She seemed to be a natural socialite.
"I can help you find food. I don't think mother would mind. Would you mother?"
Dina watched the other mother-child pair move away from them and, with a shrug, turned back to the two little girls.
"I don't mind. If you'd like help, we are willing. Our young are our future." An adult would be valuable to help these children learn as well as to reach fruit that the small ones couldn't get to.
"There are some fruit trees just over there. Hopefully there will be some pickings enough left for you, young one." Sayyadina didn't know that these fruit trees were where Mudpaw was lurking, picking fruit for himself.

Probably the most ill prepared of them all, Thirdflight stalked along the outer edges of the group that continued to gather things together. He made no move to pick at the bushes for left over berries, nor did he attempt to gather a few stray downy feathers to line his nest. Earlier in the day he had scratched out a little burrow in the earth not too far from here, but since then he had grown disinterested with the idea of getting ready for the cold.
He looked at his fellow Adahy through the dormant trees with narrowed eyes. He wasn't like them. The rebel, the outcast, the one x. That was him. At least, that was him in the world of his narrow mind.
Lips persed tightly as he watched the youngling boy and girl squabble about something particularly useless. What did it matter if either of them were helping? In the end, it was every creature for itself. The haughty male had no intention of assisting the group when he had himself to worry about. Not that he was doing a whole lot of worrying....
His expression became even more smug.

Mudpaw saw the interaction between the youngsters. He stood a little straighter trying to look more adult than he felt. Despite his outward growth to adulthood, he knew many of the older Adahy still thought of him as a child.
He heard the mention of the fruit trees he was under and thought, Good, they're coming to me. It'll save me the walk to find out who they are and what they're doing.

Watermint Smiled lightly and nodded her head "they do seem a bit silly..." she replied she really had not thought to question the intelligence of the opposite gender. she turned a suprised eye at the adult and smiled, she figured she could use the company anyway and she was still technically working she thought 'why not' "sure, I like having someone t talk to." she said sweetly really she was bubbly inside she had been accepted and hoped to make a friend or two

Sayyadina, moving away from the main hub of activity, now seemed slightly more alert as she watched over the two girl children. She was headed straight for the fruit trees, not far, and saw already that a male stood there with fruit dripping from his jaws. She huffed to herself at how sloppy he looked, especially when he should be saving the food instead of gorging on it.
"Be careful, young ones. It seems other adahy are here for food." She spoke to the girls only when they were in earshot of the male. She was making it clear that she was on alert and a female with children was never someone to mess with, if you were looking for a fight.
"Oh good! I like someone to talk to as well." Mapes walked tall behind her mother when they turned and made their way to the fruit trees. "We can be best friends. You'll have to show me where your den is.. so if we grow big enough over the winter we can go visit each other!" The latter part was said in somewhat of a whisper, not wanting to get a lecture from her mother about the dangers of being outdoors in the winter time.
Her high and mighty attitude seemed to slip slightly when she saw the male in the fruit grove. He wasn't particularly scary but despite her projections, Mapes was a little frightened of any male adult. Her steps brought her closer to her mother's hindquarters and she looked around as if more males would leap out of the bushes in ambush.

Mudpaw saw the blue and brown female approaching with two youngsters in tow. A rather attractive female, he noted to himself. A thought he pushed to the back of his mind for later reference. This time of the season, females were not open to the suggestion of breeding, even casually. Some even got rather violent. He'd learned that lesson well.
Mudpaw dipped his head in greeting to the female when she was in earshot and said, "Greetings to you on this winter day."
