 After speaking with the others Chivosi was fairly certain there wouldn't be any more putting things off - she had to tell Mene before someone else did. Truthfully she wasn't even sure why she hadn't told him right off the bat, except that she herself had needed time to worry over it in her own mind. She was pretty sure he would be happy with the news - she was happy. happy in a worried by the moons what was i thinking thinking I could do something like this sort of way.
Letting out a slight huff of breath Chiv padded through the den site seeking Mene. He wasn't very hard to find - he rarely was and thankfully he wasn't out patrolling the boarders Chiv didn't think she wanted to go traipsing through the woods after him. Walking up behind him she cleared her throat lightly to get his attention.
"Mene?"

Menelaus had just left the small group he'd been slightly spying on before she could finish what she had to say and now she was here, to perhaps talk to him about it as well. He felt slightly hurt but, didn't show it, he didn't know if she had seen or smelt him.
"Chiv.." He said in a soft cooing voice, he sat himself down but, didn't face her. He was stressed and rather unhappy at the moment. The pack was growing, he only knew half of them and now Chiv wasn't seeking him to talk to about things but, the rest of the pack.
He could smell the changes going on but, didn't take a second to consider what they could possibly mean.

Poor Mene, Chiv thought to herself he had been so stressed lately what with the pack growing by leaps and bounds and here she was about to add to it. She hoped he would find her news happy news but it could just send him into a further spiral of stress. Sidling up beside him she ducked her head to butt him under the chin before laying down at his feet.
Once she had stalled about as long as she could with getting settled she glanced up at him uncertainly "There's something I need to tell you..and I probably should have told you sooner, but I was nervous and you've been so stressed out lately..."

He almost teared up when she butted him under the chin, she seemed to distant recently and it bothered him, weighing on his heart heavily. They'd been so close before and then all this started. He almost wanted to throw it all away but, instead he kept his posture good and firm, not laying next to her, he feared if he did he'd weep like a new born.
"What is it Chivosi?" He asked this with care strewn in his voice. He was worried beyond belief now, why wouldn't she just spit it out!? He nearly growled as different emotions haunted him. He intended none of it so stayed silent.

Chiv shifted her paws slightly on the ground, he was angry with her..or at least it seemed that way, perhaps he was merely worried - and she realized she wasn't doing much to help in that category at the moment, drawing things out like she was. But she hated thinking he might be angry at her and resisted the urge to whine and grovel at his feet - she was an alpha too after all and that certainly wasn't very becoming.
Instead Chiv decided to merely come out with it and tipped her head back to look at him more squarely "You are going to be a father soon" she told him - and though she meant it to be voiced strong and clear it came out softer and quieter then she intended.

Did his mighty ears deceive him, had she really said what he thought she'd said. His eye's softened and heart jerked and began beating faster. "A.. A Father?" He asked, his tone had picked up, tail threatening to move and paws shifting. Excitement tore up and down him like a jack hammer.
"Like puppies??" His tone lifted an octave higher, stresses began to vanish and the world was his. His mate, his pack, his puppies. He broke out into a huge grin and leaped from her, eye's glowing with a puppy-ish glare and he loosened up.
"Parents!" He exclaimed. "Puppies!" He stopped a moment and wandered over to his mate, she'd been stressing as much as him maybe more. He sighed slightly and nosed her jaw. "I'm so sorry.." He whispered, his heart beating quickly. He was just so stunned that one magical night could brings o much joy.
He hadn't been happier since the day he'd met her.

Chiv was greatly relieved when the news brought Mene joy rather then added stress. It had been a long time since she'd seen that puppyish look in his eye or seen him leap about as they used to do "Yes like puppies" She confirmed with a slight laugh as he danced about.
"Don't be sorry love...we knew it was going to be hard getting this pack started, and while puppies might not make that easier - it will certainly make it more enjoyable" She told him with a few thumps of her tail. "I should have told you sooner..but the prospect makes me nervous, I've never been a mother before and I didn't really know how to well...bring it up.."

He was just about at giggling point he was so giddy. Then the thought of being a first time Dad hit him hard to the mind. "Oh geeze.." He never thought of that. "We'll be fine." He said, trying to comfort their minds. "It'll be okay!" He smiled broadly and nosed her gently."You'll be the best Mother those puppies ever did lay eye's on." His eye's were lit up to no belief and the excitement still was striking him hard just that little bit of doubt stuck good enough to cause him a bit of grief.
"We've lead a pack for a while now, we can do it!" He had himself encouraged now and his tail went back to wagging and he left his muzzle on her paws while he zoned out a bit.

"We can" She agreed firmly "And we have a good pack to help us out" She continued beore her mind raced ahead to all the things they would need to do...the pack was large enough now that she as sure hunting wouldn't be a problem, there were more then enough hunters around to make sure everyone got fed. Some of them might need to pick it up a bit in terms of patrolling shortly, not because Chiv didn't think she'd be up for it - but because being heavily pregnant and running into some aggressive stranger was hardly something she wanted to chance.
"We are going to need a bigger Den" She finally piped up before glancing down at her mate to find his eyes looking rather far off. "Mene? Did you hear me?" She questioned him before restating her words "We are going to need a larger Den, what if we have a big litter? they'll need room to play inside - I don't want them running about in the rain or something because we don't have room for them inside" She fretted.

Menelaus smiled briskly, a faint memory of when he was younger flashing through his mind at the simple fretting of needing more space. "Well, if you think we will need it then come along, you can keep me company while I expand our home." He smiled sweetly, lifting his head and licking her chick affectionately.
"We'll be prepared and happy as can be." He was sure of this, the pack was steady and finely stable enough to enjoy it and puppies! It was heaven for him now.

Chiv smiled happily and followed her mate back to their Den. Throughout the next few months many such renovations were undertaken as Chiv and Mene attempted to make everything perfect for the impending arrival of their first litter. It was an enjoyable...if trying time and the couple perhaps went a bit over board in their desire to make everything perfect (much to the annoyance of Merrill) but at long last as Chiv's time grew closer preparations slowed down and the waiting began.

This was not the best night for this Chiv thought to herself as she paced about the den, howling wind and crashing thunder had not been the reason for her lack of sleep however and in the brief flashes of light offered by striking lightening she could see the concerned look of Mene. She had not meant to wake him, at least not until she was sure...but as time went on it was growing readily apparent that it was indeed time.
After all this waiting the puppies were on their way, and by the looks of the thrashing trees outside they were being welcomed by mother nature in a loud way, thankfully their den was warm and dry and Chiv ceased her pacing to move closer to Mene. "It's time i think.." She panted at him, both nervous and excited.

The day had grown dark, the clouds puffed up full of droplets pouring down to their hearts content. The mood had grown dreary and the striking had begun to sting at Mene's sensitive ears. He was laying on his belly, patient with the weather and his mate who was pacing until she gave way to her pacing to be closer to him, he felt her plumped sides heaving lightly as she panted then she said it. The words the entire pack had been waiting to hear! "Time.." He was half asleep but, suddenly awake. "Time!" He shouted between the claps of thunder.
He was immediately up, the den was spacious and he looked about. "Oh goodness, what do we do!?" He started up, his heart drummed thoroughly and then he seemed to have blacked out. Not surprising for a first time Father, he'd gotten her to her side and kept her calm but, he couldn't hold himself together for the mess of birthing.
He awoke to the most beautiful sound between the slowing thunders sounds. Small, minuscule whimpering from the most beautiful little creatures he'd ever laid eye's on. He could hear Chiv panting lightly, he could imagine how hard it would be to push out.. One.. Two.. Three.. FOUR! Little guys. He scented the air pleasantly, a mixture of blood, Chiv, and sweat swarmed the entire of it.
"It's truely a home now." He smiled sweetly to his precious mate, the creature so strong, physically and mentally. He was intrigued by such power in an animal and got closer, bringing his body to face that of Chiv's and shelter their puppies between them.

Chiv had been far to busy to deal with Mene as he passed out, though she had thrown him a slightly annoyed look - which of course he hadn't seen, being unconcious and all. Males. Chiv rather wished she had been able to black out for the whole process herself...but then again the four little bundles beside her were well worth the effort and after brushing her nose over them lightly gave Mene a wry look as he laid down beside them.
"Glad you could join us" She teased him lightly, though the statement was punctuated by a small yawn, Chiv was finding herself rather exhausted now, but there was still something to be done. "They are going to need names, two girls and two boys...quite the perfect little I think"

His dark eye's gazed at the teasing female and he gave a 'har-har' very funny look. His stomach had settled by now and he nuzzled the nose of his mate lovingly.
"What do you think we should name them?" He gazed brightly at the wiggling bodies. "You did do the most work." He laughed halfly, he was still a bit wishy washy. He'd stay up as long as the pups were wiggling and Chiv needed him.

Chivosi looked down at the wiggling bodies, they were a vastly differant bunch and she nosed the little female with some white markings on her back, the small pup wiggled closer and let out a few small puppy noises in protest to the cold nose. Chiv pricked her ears a bit and glanced up at Mene.
"Do you hear her? she sounds like she's singing along with the storm!" Of course it might just be a mothers pride which made it seem like the little pup was a bit more melodic then the others but Chiv furrowed her brow slightly as she considered. "StormSinger maybe? She questioned trying it out on her tongue before shaking her head..no" She thought for a few more moments before recalling something else "You know Merrill told me about the storms they have way up north once, she said they were called Aleutian Storms...how about Aleutian Ballad as a name..we can call her Aleu for short" She concluded with a slight nod. Yes Aleu would work well.
Nosing the next pup in line - a grey male that looked like he'd inherited most o his coloring from Mene. At her nosing the small pup glanced up at her for a few moments, lightning flashing outside the den and playing across the marking over his eye. Chiv let out a slight breath because really it seemed this one had named himself...although the simple word 'lightning' just didn't do him justice. "Raiden?" She questioned "The timid female Xeina mentioned in one of her stories that Raiden means lightning in other areas of Telk" At Mene's thoughtful nod Chiv moved on to the third puppy.
The third puppy was a female who looked quite a bit like herself to her way of thinking - or at least a bit more so then some of the others and as she prodded the pup slightly the young ceature growled somewhat fiercely,almost right in line with the tempest raging about outside. Chiv chuckled slightly because this pup was going to be easy too. "Tempest" She declaired with no hesitation - it would suit the pup well she was sure.
The fourth puppy was the most boldly marked of the four, with a pale white face and back and as she nosed him about the little beast actually reached a paw up to smack at her nose, and then as quick as his annoyance cam it seemed to pass for a few moments later the little ball of fuzz was cuddling even closer to her warm fur. Chiv quirked an eye at the young male - she hada feeling he might be a bit of trouble as he grew and honestly she had no idea just want to name the little creature and so settled her head upon her pas to think a spell.
Her mind traveled back to her own puppyhood and she recalled briefly a conversation between her mother and father "There's a derecho moving in" her father stated "Best keep the pups indoors" Her mother concluded "you know how fast those storms come and go" The conversation played out in her mind and Chiv popped her head up to look at Mene "Derecho!, the last pup shall be Derecho"
