The average age to masturbate is around 10-15 for male and female, but some people start a lot later and some earlier.

Not everyone masturbates. I don't. I remember first learning what it was in middle school, though.. I was probably around 12.

My fiance started as early as 7, but didn't ejaculate with his orgasm until about 9-10. His first time masturbating has an interesting story attached, actually. It involves a bunch of boys at camp (aaah, camp, ain't it grand?).
Personally, I think I knew about masturbating fairly early. I definitely knew that boys masturbated when I was 11-12 (movies, middle school talk, you know the deal), but I don't remember knowing about female masturbation. I guess I assumed that it existed since I don't remember being surprisedwhen I first had a direct conversation with someone about it.
As for actually doing it, that depends on your definition. Obviously, I'd touch myself when I was really little. *Poke here, feels good* But I don't think I actually consciously "masturbated" until I was about 14-15. I didn't orgasm until I was 16. I remember because I was on the phone with my now fiance, 4laugh

But I didn't even think of it sexually for a time - I actually thought it was childish and that I needed to outgrow it... lol... That's cause my sister's friends showed me (she had no idea really what she was doing either - she just found it out some home - face down, of course, which I now find out is bad). She was two years younger than I was! So, boy that was young.... At least, I think it was 9... it could have been slightly older.

I was eleven. In my opinion, I could've been a lot younger, but I lived in a house with no locks. When I finally got a lock to my room, I didn't masturbate until one day when I was really horny while I was cleaning my flute with my cleaning rod. I grabbed the cleaning rod, ran to my room, locked my door, and masturbated. I didn't know that the rod was supposed to be bigger. I felt nothing! That was hilarious.
