She awoke the next morning to undoubtedly the most atrocious smell she'd been subjected to since walking around in the alleyways with Hematite on a previous cat hunt.

Her nose wrinkled... was that supposed to be coffee she was smelling?

"Ughhh..." she murmured softly, both awakened and repulsed by whatever smell had wafted her way. It was when she attempted to move that she noticed both the terrible pain in her chest and arm, as well as the fact she was no longer on the carpet of Mr. Killingworth's gym office.

Wait.

....what the <******** fluttered open, immediately confused by the new surroundings. She was no longer in his office but... on a couch? In what appeared to be an... apartment? She shifted again, grimacing at the pain, and quickly realized she was still in uniform, but now resting on the couch in the middle of ******** knows where.

Jesus Christ, how was she going to even start explaining this one?

"I...uhhh.... Good morning?" she called out hesitantly, unsure of how the hell one was supposed to handle this sort of rude awakening.

She'd never seen the inside of Gunn Killingworth's apartment before, one of the clone housing arrangements teachers from Hillworth got. It was startlingly spartan; there was a couch which looked chronically unused. There was a kitchen unit, which was tidy, totally devoid of the normal human rubbish that evidenced somebody actually dwelling there. A closed door lead away to ostensibly where Charonite slept, though whether or not he slept at all was still up for evidence. There were no decorations on the walls; no TV; one of the windows was open a crack where, as she looked, the General-King sat on a chair smoking.

There was an ashtray. That was the height of the trash: an ashtray, which looked extremely full. Actually, there were two ashtrays, both perched on the windowsill. They looked as though they belonged to the Olympic Cigarette Smoking Club.

"Afternoon," he corrected her. "You've been asleep all god damned day."

She was still in pain; but her wounds were bandaged up. Obviously when she was unconscious, Charonite had gone over her -- which was an embarrassing thing to think about.

Her eyes fell across him, and all she could do was stare. Nealite's mind was racing at this point, how had she gotten here? Had she really been knocked out all day? How the <********> was this going to make her look? Wait, wait wait, was she in his ******** apartment? Of all the ******** times for her to finally see it...

"I-I can explain!" she blurted out nearly immediately, practically bolting up from where she lay. Bad idea. Really bad idea.

Wincing, she reached up to press her hand against the throbbing in her chest, only to have it drop down again, all too aware of the fact she now bore bandages. God, and of all the times... ugh, could this possibly get any worse?

"Astraea." She continued, attempting to keep her mind on track as her eyes moved to stare at the ashtrays. How long had he been there? "Castor...he's gone Super. I swear to ******** god I nearly had him, sir, but she showed up again. It's like she's practically his shadow!"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 7:44 pm

"No," said the General-King, "I knew. She's been ******** babying Castor since day one -- I have my own ******** theories." Whatever they were, he didn't elaborate on them. "I'm surprised that even as Captain he ******** you over, but with Astraea in tow -- well, she's made her own funeral there."

He tapped ash into one of the not-overflowing ashtrays. "If she's going to god damned show up whenever he's in the least bit of trouble, I'm just going to snap his ******** neck the next time I see him. She's desperate. She never let herself out this much before. Desperate or ******** egotistical. That ******** cat. I hate that ******** cat."

Charonite looked weary. She could see the bruises underneath his eyes of no sleep; he was sitting there in his gym slacks and a wifebeater, dreadlocks pulled away back into a rough ponytail, the sunglasses sitting next to the little Vesuvius ashtrays. He sounded angry -- when didn't he -- and he wasn't looking at her.

"There's only one ******** way to beat her," he said. "Just one. I've always known it was just the god damned one and I hate being penned in -- this is what always had to happen, Ursula. Just the one ******** thing. If there was only one way to do something -- even if that one way meant a huge amount of god damned risk -- what would you do?"

"I nearly had him," she muttered, unable to help but sulk at the fact his opinion of her had obviously dropped a great deal. If it hadn't been for that goddamn cat, he would have been dead by now.

By this point she was sitting upright, a scowl evident on her face. At least the little p***k wouldn't be able to see for a few days, not after those punches to his face. Served the little b*****d right, if anything.

Her shoulders fell and her head lowered as he continued to bash on the cat she was quickly becoming to hate just as much as the General-King did. Astraea had prevented her from doing what could have easily been done weeks ago, and now as a result of her meddling there was another Super Senshi on the loose. God damn it all.

Eyes rose once more, however, as he spoke of a method of beating her. Nea was quite willing to do whatever it took to rid the world of the damn feline, but why was Charonite being so cryptic about it? Something he'd known about for a while now?

"If it's the only way, I mean, of course I would?" Her hands were at her side now, adjusting her skirt as she attempted to make herself as comfortable as a girl who wakes up awkwardly on her boss's couch could. "You have to do what it takes to get the job done, sir."

It was the first time he looked at her. He stood up, grated his cigarette down into the ashtray, and folded his arms as he beheld her: didn't give her a chewing-out for losing, again, which meant that something was up. Something huge was up. The last time he'd hauled her around by the hair, he'd been that angry -- and he was still angry, she could tell; but there was something different behind it.

"You really have no ******** idea," he said. "Not a ******** clue. And yet you're devoted anyway. For the good of the Negaverse," he parroted. "You have to do what it takes to get the job done, sir. -- So, Captain? What if you died? What if you gave your ******** life for the Negaverse? That's the second greatest god damn honour you could ever have: first best is giving someone else's life, all right, Captain?"

He even looked agitated. He said: "Would you die, Ursula?"

Death did not scare her. Ursula Johnson had been born into a world of survival, not a world of love and compassion. Her mother had been as vain as Ursula was, her father an abusive, heartless man. All she'd grown up knowing was to look out for herself, up until the point Gunn Killingworth entered that world and turned it upside down. After that moment, she'd lived for a purpose, she had a meaning to her life, and that meaning was to serve her General-King and the vast world of the Negaverse. She had never fooled herself into believing she would die of old age, that she would live on to find a happily ever after. Ursula, no, Nealite knew damn well that her days would end on a battlefield, her life given for the cause that she fought for, for the man she'd now come to terms with that she loved.

But this was no battlefield.

No, this was no war, no fight, just the two of them there, sitting (and standing) across from one another, with him requesting she be willing to give up her life for someone else. Dying by sword or senshi would not provide time for reflection, but as she sat there, listening and mentally digesting his request, all she could do was think back. Think back on her days as a normal human, her days in the Negaverse. Her relationships, both good and bad. Obby, Grendel, Khal, Linarite, Tanz. Faces of old and new resurfaced, her accomplishments and her defeat, her recent promotion to Captain. No, Nealite had no regrets if she were to die now, no unfinished business.

Well, that was untrue. There was one regret.

She looked up at him, her eyes staring into his, unwilling to look away. Now was not the time to be shy, right? Not if she was about to die, like he was implying. No...no, this was the time to be bold, the time to finally come out with what she wanted, the one thing to make that single regret disappear, so that Ursula could end her life on satisfied terms.

"I would die, sir.... but only on one condition."

She held her breath, strengthening the backbone that had never stood up, never been so bold or outspoken before. It was now or never, and she refused to kick herself in the afterlife for it.

"I want you to kiss me."

One hand held itself up to him immediately, as if to stop him from protesting before he even had a chance to begin. "I have my reasons, sir, and that is all that I request in exchange for my life. It is selfish to make any request, I know, but please do not question me on this. I have never before requested anything of you that I can recall, so it would mean a great deal to me for it to be honored now, when I finally have a moment to be useful, a purpose and a reason for my life to be used for. All that I want is one tiny...one insignificant kiss, and my life is at your disposal to do with as you please. I am willing to give myself up to the Negaverse, for your use, for the greater ******** good or what have you, but.... I want this, in exchange."

She lifted her chin, her expression serious, confident, her eyes never wavering from leaving his face. Even if he were to disregard her request, she could at least die knowing that she had tried, that she had made that one final attempt, before whatever it was that he had planned for her.

He didn't respond, which was enough to make anyone's heart sink.

Charonite instead reached down with an outstretched hand, silent, the wake of the silence after her request sinking all around them -- helped her to stand, his mouth in a tight line, saying nothing. Revealing nothing. His pale grey eyes betrayed no reaction to her request, and he sure wasn't kissing her, was the thing.

And then, when she stood, they popped! through the teleport into Negaverse subspace -- his silence still a held breath, rather than a flat refusal, though she had to wonder at this point if he was ignoring her. Hand-in-hand, the leader of the Shitennou lead her through the equally silent throne room to the room to the side that she knew well by now -- knew, except for the part where it was now totally trashed, the stone table at the center in pieces all over the floor. Dents in the walls. Rubble.

But the glowing crystal with the object inside was there, as it ever had been there, and they were picking their way over the broken remnants of his temper.

After a while, he spoke: "This is everything I have been working towards and everything I've been ******** protecting," he said. "Everything. Everything we ever worked towards. Back in the days when there were only four of us, and I wasn't even ******** awake -- "

Charonite shook himself out of his impatient reverie, and said: "Doesn't god damned matter. I tried it with the two corrupteds. They're both so god damned up to their eyeballs in Negaverse power that it takes one hell of a spell to hide it -- a hundred times more than you. A thousand."

He didn't place her hand on the crystal, as he had done before. Instead he turned to look at her, and he hesitated -- visually hesitated. The General-King never hesitated. He had never hesitated with her before.

"This will kill you."

He had hesitated?

"This will ******** kill you, Captain, and you'd sell it for a kiss?"

Obviously he was filled with contempt with the idea. It had backfired on her. "That's your price? A kiss? You barter away -- ******** -- everything -- for a kiss?"

But before she could expect, God only knew, a backhand? With a literal hand or words? -- he had hesitated again. And then he reached out to touch a lock of stray orange hair at the side of her face, not tucking it away, just touching it, as though he wanted to see what it felt like underneath his fingers.

"A kiss?"

She remained silent as they teleported, her stomach ignoring the nausea from the transfer, her mind and heart settled and focused on the situation at hand. The small glimmer of hope she'd had for that kiss had been swept away with their arrival into the world of the Negaverse, so she instead busied her time by staring curiously at the remains of the torn up room.

Nealite knew the crystal, that damn crystal with that damn woman inside that the General-King stared at nearly every time they met in this room. She had the attention Nea would never receive, the adoration it was clear that he only devoted to her. While he never had to say anything, Ursula knew who was inside it. There could only be one person that could capture his affection, his protection, his devotion.

It was always about ******** business with him, wasn't it? Heh. Up until the end, it seemed, it would always be the case.

She turned to listen as he spoke, taking a few steps back so she could watch his reaction. It could only be assumed who the two corrupteds were, but what had he tried? What had he tried that obviously failed?

Orange eyes widened slightly as he repeated the dangers of whatever the hell he was intending to do. Did he not understand? Did he not ******** understand that she was ready and willing to die to make him happy? What the ******** else did she have to live for?

Her head turned as he touched her, a wave of both bitterness and happiness rushing over her as she forced out a small laugh.

"A kiss, sir." She finally echoed, reaching up to move his hand down, her hands, for the first time, being the ones to touch his instead of the other way around. She wasn't going to fool herself anymore, not when everything was finally coming to an end for her, the final chapter of her life in this world.

"I would trade it all for a kiss from you."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:51 pm

I would trade it all for a kiss from you.

There was the look of vague, unfamiliar befuddlement on Charonite's face. And then -- suddenly -- there was the realisation, a long time coming, like a lightning bolt straight from Heaven. For somebody who was so clever, the General-King had been fairly ******** stupid over the worst-kept secret that the Negaverse had to hold. Apparently he'd never seen it. Apparently he'd never known.

And then there was the greatest disappointment ever:

He kissed her on the forehead.

Charonite tilted her head up, and he kissed her on the forehead. She was a full head shorter than he was (well, who wasn't?) and he brushed his lips over her temple -- brief. Agonizingly brief. Bittersweet.

"Ursula," he said, "you have no ******** idea how to bargain."

And then he tilted her chin up and kissed her on the lips.

The General-King tasted arrestingly of nicotine. It was a little like kissing an ashtray. But apart from that -- he was kissing her, his fingers brushing past her hair and grasping it as he'd done before in anger -- fisting his hand in it, kissing her with all the thoroughness that he hadn't addressed her forehead with. He was kissing her.

She held her breath as he leaned down, her eyes looking up, so hopeful, surprised.

They closed as she felt his warm lips brush her forehead, her heart undecided whether it should plummet or soar. This wasn't what she'd asked for, it was almost like a cruel joke...but it was still a kiss, right?

The warmth left just as soon as it had touched her, that brief tease. It was over, she'd gotten her request, and now it was time to... wait, what?

Her eyes opened up as he spoke, the confusion evident. She opened her mouth to protest, but it was quickly distracted by the same pair of lips she'd promised to exchange her life for. Oh God, was this really happening? Was this really, truly happening?

It was almost like a dream, the kiss she'd been hoping for, wishing for, fantasizing over for so long. It didn't matter if he realized the truth behind her request, she could die the fool now and die happy.

Tears began to well up in her eyes, her soft lips desperately kissing his back, the moment coming and going all too quickly.

Nealite was the one to pull back from it, one hand moving up to hastily brush aside the tears that had been threatening to fall, threatening to stain her cheek. She knew she must have looked like a dreadful mess after a senshi attack and then a night on a couch, but nothing ******** mattered anymore. She'd gotten her wish, and now she was merely holding up the inevitable.

"I'm ready sir." She said quietly, the smile unable to hide itself on her face. There was no fear, there was no concern. Only contentment.

She'd gotten her wish... and now it was time to grant him his, at the cost of the most precious gift she could offer.

There was, again, a pause where -- for a moment -- she thought he might say something; but then he didn't. He was guiding her hand towards the crystal, and then the other, and this time her fingers sank in to the cold depths. Up to her elbow, shoulder, and then -- he pressed on the small of her back, and Nealite was absorbed into the crystal.

If she'd known the experiences of Tisiphone and Nova, she would have immediately recognised that this was different. This time, the skeleton locked deep within the rock embraced her -- wrapped its bony dry arms around her and held her within them.

Then the pain began.

It was a little like the pain she'd experienced upon her promotion -- except that pain was a pinprick in comparison to this pain. She was being taken over. Something was sliding in next to her consciousness and reworking her body entirely, flaying her skin to pieces, growing a new one. Taking every muscle and discarding it as useless. Taking her body: accepting it, grudgingly, for what it was, a human shell, and remaking it. The power was intense. The power was incredible. It was fire underneath her skin, an inferno of it, making her into a charred corpse and then rebirthing her in the next moment.

The crystal exploded.

The General-King threw one arm up against the barrage -- didn't stumble, but watched as what had formerly been inside fell down in a pile of dead, dry bones at the feet of -- Ursula --

-- no, not quite. Not quite, anymore.

User Image

He sank to one knee without even having to think about it, head bowed. Not even feeling the triumph, yet, the triumph would come later. Kneeled in the wake of her, lifting the hem of his dress to her mouth, pressing a kiss against the fabric before dropping it.

"Your majesty, I await your orders."

Queen Beryl.

She screamed, the pain in her chest multiplying as it spread throughout her body. Her body was being taken over, being controlled, being shaped into a new form, and Nealite was powerless to stop it as it took over. Agonizing, tearing her apart while at the same time creating something new, something amazing.

It was power, raw ******** power. Power beyond any imaginable limitation, and it was coursing through her, it was her. She was the Negaverse, she was the one who now wielded the crown. She, Nealite...no, Beryl had returned, and the world would bow at her feet.

The crystal shattered, but it remained ignored as she stood there, taking in her surroundings as if for the first time. Everything had changed; it was like looking at the world through new eyes, new and improved eyes that could pierce directly into the soul. She was unstoppable, she was unbeatable, and with Serenity out of the picture, she would rule the world.

Eyes moved down to stare at the Shitennou, to stare at the man who had done this to her, created her anew, brought back the power to the Negaverse. Her faithful General-King.

"Charonite." She said at last, his name being uttered to his face for the first time, through what was once a mere Captain. Her grin was wicked, her eyes gleaming.

Leaning over, pale fingers grasped hold of lilac dreadlocks as the smaller woman forced the General-King's head towards her, chilled fingers then grasping to pull his face up. Her lips forced themselves against his in a second kiss, but this one, however, was not in desperation, but demanding, hot, teasing. It was her turn to be in control, it was her turn to call the shots.

Letting go, she took a step back, her long dress dragging against the crystal fragments on the ground. And she laughed.

She laughed, the sound echoing against the walls of the Negaverse, the sound long overdue for these familiar walls being seen through new eyes. Finally, after a minute, they subsided, and was replaced by that same wicked grin she'd given him before, one hand sliding down to her hip in what was once a typical Nealite fashion.

"I think," she purred, her head tilting slightly as she stared down at the General-King, "things are going to be a little different around here from now on, darling."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:57 pm

The General-King rose to his feet. The way he looked at her now was utterly different -- and he'd never looked at her before like that; never looked at anyone before like that; he took her hand and he pressed her palm to his mouth, never taking his eyes off her, slowly alight now with exultation as he kissed the base of each finger. Pressed his lips to each fingertip. Didn't bother to agree with her -- just took her in his arms and then kissed her in a field of crushed crystal fragments and bones.

"As you say," he said, but then light of who the General-King was shone through, because he said "damn it," and kissed her as though it was a worthy replacement for oxygen. He wound her arms around his neck, and his around her fragile waist: and then they were kissing with a vengeance as though they'd been told that it would be banned the next day.
