Angel of the Doctor

PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 2:41 pm

I might not have the knowledge but...
I keep thinkin there's some religious input that refers to Doc as in a religious environment.
1) He's a Time Lord. "Lord"? Doesn't it sound obvious?
2) Lazarus. Coming back from the dead. FAMILIAR???
3) A LOT of church references.
4) The Doc rising like Jesus in Last of the Timelords.
5)God raining down on people. The Doc rains his anger on people (occasionally).
6) He forgives the Master. FORGIVES!!!
7) Having the guys in Pompeii pray for THEM!! And when the Doc says "Come with me." and they are holding hands like that. Very religious like.
cool He likes to be around mountains.
9) He's a lonely god. Doesn't get any more specific than that!
10) He knows the meaning of life. I don't think some big genius knows about it!
Now, I'm not religious.
AND I remember our Great Russell saying "The Doctor's not a god! He's just a regular guy!"
I know..I know...
But, he might be some Jesus type-just not Jesus. Or something.
Does anyone agree? Disagree?

It's a good suggestion to a deeper meaning behind the storyline, but I honestly don't think there's any intention. The BBC for a start would be penalised for subliminal religious imagery throughout the programme, as well as the fact that The Doctor transcends human rationality and logic, of course what we would regard as a miracle, seems inferior next to his abilities. What we as humans regard as miracles and the such, are only miracles because they are things that humans would regard unusual and outside our normal abilities. He isn't from Earth and therefore it's not much of a miracle for a Time Lord.

I think the Time Lords are supposed to be guardians of time and as a superior race, set themselves aside from other planets to watch over them and keep order; that seems a bit like they're making themselves Gods, but only because they are so technologically advanced, in relation to other planets.

I think, when he forgave The Master, that's just who The Doctor is, as a person. He's seen so much in his life and he's just a peaceful person who finds it hard to hold a grudge, especially when he was so desperate for another Time Lord to exist. When the Master died, The Doctor burst into tears. He had to forgive the master, or else he'd forever be on his own.

I think in one episode that if he had kept the vortex inside and didn't regenerate, he would have become a vengeful god, but my memory isn't that good

Ok.
1) IM NOT THAT GUY!
but...I do understand what he's saying.
I don't think the Doc is fully Jesus. He just reminds me of Jesus.

Wow.
I don't think they did that on purpose. Just for intention, like u said.
You make a good point. They're more like angels, instead of gods. Right?
The Doctor doesn't mean to be all powerful. He just is.
It makes me think more clearly now.

No, you're right.
He always seems to have some vengeful outlook when he was 9.
At least, that's what it makes me think.

strangly enough, it does make sense. but i don't think so. I mean, he did battle with some of the devil, but... he is also said to be the destroyer of many races. god like?

A little.
I think he reminds me more of Jesus.

What she means is that she agrees with me, not that the doctor is a knight. Easy mistake.

That actually made me laugh so much. I wasgoing to correct her but then though, 'maybe she's just really really optimistic?'

Ok.
Maybe that's possible in other planets.
At least he doesn't believe in religion.
Nice hair, btw.
