She was overjoyed. Today would be a quiet and perfect day for her and her son. She had been lucky enough to take him out of the grasp of Red Bull's. They had escaped him for the moment, but she knew before long he'd come running after her again. She supposed this was what her life would be now. But in truth she was ok with it. Her life had never been this exciting. And now? She was left with three beautiful sons. Eckhardt was a bit different then his siblings. He was much calmer and more serene like she was. She wanted to establish a good connection with him so that when he was older and able to live freely, he could establish his own rules for his life. She knew back at their den Red Bull was probably training the other boys. But they both liked to be strong like their father. She wanted to figure out what her other son wanted, since it was his choice.
He always looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. And today he could be.
"Come this way, Eckhardt." she finally beckoned before seeing the familiar and bright smile come forward. He really looked like her so much. She wondered what he was feeling, and hoped she could answer questions he had about their uprising. "Where would you like to go?"

Today was wonderful. This was the first time the colt had ever adventured out and away! He ran back and forth, finding himself ending up in little circles around his mother. He wasn't sure how they were able to get away from their siblings and father, but it found it best not to ask. His mother was pretty amazing in everything she did. He decided to just enjoy the freedom while it lasted.
Before he could think about it more, he heard his mother call for him and he realized he had wandered away from her. Without further ado he sped forward and towards her, and gleamed when she asked where he wanted to go. "I want to see everything!" he realized that was sort of childish, and he knew his father would have punished him for saying something so stupid. "But let's start with a river I found over there. Follow me!" And with that, he wiggled his legs in the other direction and acted as though he was racing his mother there. He wanted to put his legs in the water and dance around in it. Maybe he'd find some creatures living in there, too!

She was giddy at her son's enthusiasm. She knew this would be a good idea, no matter the consequences. It was good for her to take a personal leap anyhow. She needed to establish some of her own ground rules so that she and the kids could all live together in some kind of free environment. But for now, she had some exploring to do with her son. No need to worry about the changes just yet.
She quickly followed behind Eckhardt and was relieved that the river wasn't too far away. The proud mother stood and watched as her son splashed and laughed to himself. He really was adorable. "I am glad you are happy." she finally added, while dipping her own legs into the cold stream. "I just wanted to make sure you were doing things you wanted." Since... sometimes she really couldn't tell. "How are things between you and your brothers?"

Of course he was happy! What was his mother talking about? It wasn't like her to talk so much. "Well right now I am doing what I want. So I couldn't be happier." he laughed lightly while splashing around his mother's tall body. He hoped his mother was feeling ok. She seemed worried or something! "We are all fine, you should know that. You watch us every day."
Before he could comment even more, he lowered his eyes to the stream and saw a fish gliding around him. Could he catch it? This would not be an easy task. He pounced and jumped left and right, having no luck at catching the darn thing. He was sure his mother was laughing at him. He definitely looked like a fool at this point! But the fish was putting up a good fight- this was the best game he had played in awhile.

Maybe things were better than she imagined. But a mother's eye was sharp, and Saphira was determined to learn as much from her son as she could. So much of their lives was spent in silence. She didn't want Eckhardt to suffer like that. He was so bubbly and friendly, so different then his siblings. She had high hopes for him. He was much more social then she ever was, and in a sense she was envious.
"Well I am giving you an opportunity to talk as much as you like, ask me questions, anything you desire." she giggled as he chased around a very fast fish. While her son wasn't looking, she lowered her tail in the water and shielded an exit so the fish was limited in escape. "I know we all have to be quiet all the time, so I wanted to let you just.. be you." Hm, maybe this was too complicated for her son? He may have still been young, but they were all forced to mature so fast. His current playfulness was probably in regards to that.

After getting exhausted from chasing the very fast fish, Eckhardt stopped and panted. He leaned against his mother's sturdy body and continued to breath heavily. He supposed he wasn't used to all this chatting. Their family was awfully quiet, and the only time he could communicate with his brothers was when his father was off somewhere else. "Questions, hm." he continued to lean against his mother while wondering how to make the most of the moment.
"I really don't like being quiet. I think laughing and words are fun." he crinkled his nose at the thought and tilted his neck upwards and towards his mother's face. "Do we really live differently then others? Why?" he paused before considering something else. "How come we do things that other's don't?"
Was his family really that strange? What was it like in the rest of the land? Now he was eager to find out... "Freedom to speak would be a nice thing."

Ah, so she was right. Eckhardt did have questions and was indeed confused about their living situation. She suddenly felt sort of bad, but knew she could help him understand things better. "Well, we don't do things that differently!" she reassured him while cuddling her face into his. She noticed him tense up at the affection, but then smile and bubble in response. When Red Bull wasn't looking she'd always snug her babies. Lately it had been harder and she supposed the boys were old enough to not want that kind of attention. Eckhardt clearly loved affection and that was a good sign of how big his heart was.
"You will be able to have freedom once you are older and living on your own." she added, with her eyes focused on his. "The only thing we do differently is we are quieter then most, and your father expects you all to have strength over intelligence." Which... she always disagreed with. "But I think you should continue to indulge your mind even if it is silently at the moment." Oy, she hoped he would be the one out of the family to go and have such an open mindset. She wanted him to discover things and to travel and meet others as much as possible.

Thank goodness his brother's weren't watching. He supposed it was alright to acknowledge his mother's love, just this once. She meant well! And he... really liked any affection. It was proof of how much she loved him, right? He wanted to show her he loved her back!
He listened quietly at his mother's fine words. Wait... so soon he'd be able to do whatever he liked? That sounded... great!! "I want to be smart, I am glad you are ok with it." He was always asking questions, but they were saved in his mind. If he saw a strange or special creature he'd keep it in memory and consider the possibilities later on. When he was older he would definitely answer as many questions as possible. "I'll help you discover things too." He always wondered why his mother didn't fly away, since she had wings to do so. But her father was always saying that he'd always find her. He guessed his mother didn't feel like being chased all of the time!
Eckhardt didn't like when his father trained them. He much preferred thinking to fighting. "Is it ok that I might not be as strong as my brothers? I don't think fighting is a strength for me." It seemed so.. barbaric.

Listening to her son made her realize she really had nothing to worry about. He was definitely ambitious. He wanted so much and had probably never realized it before. Escaping for the hour was the smartest thing she had done in awhile. Now she was giving him a small push to work with, and in turn he was taking this new knowledge as important to his future growth and success. He was learning what he wanted and in turn he could do as he wished! "I am so proud of you." she finally added, while looking at the sky and sighing happily. She knew he would turn out just fine.
"You don't have to ever fight if you don't want to." she KNEW Red Bull would probably punish her for teaching him that, but she didn't care. It was the truth. He was most definitely more of a lover then a fighter. "You have many strengths. And soon you will be able to discover all of them. Just be patient... and learn as much as you can from your father. Even if sometimes you feel like you can't relate." That would give him a great lesson in patience at least. "So is there anything else you'd like to know before going back? I just have a feeling he's going to get suspicious soon.." she gulped lightly and eyed in the direction towards their home.

His momma was proud! He'd never heard that before. He always wanted one of his parents to tell him that. But his father never allowed it for some reason. "I will work harder to always keep you proud." He could be himself and his mother would always be happy with him. That was enough to keep him motivated and ready for anything!
He could sense his mother's worry so he tried to think quickly and efficiently. "Do you think my brothers will always be fighters? Sometimes I worry." He wanted to keep good relationships with them. But he knew it would be hard if they didn't find him worthy or something. "I just want us all to get along like a true family, even if we are weird." he giggled lightly while splashing in the water again. "Thank you momma for giving me this break.. but now I just want to see the world even more. I wonder if father would chase me if I ran away." It seemed the only creature he was constantly watching was his mother. So could he do it? Of course it was a crazy idea. But it was wonderful and thrilling too.

She was quite surprised at his last statements. What made her even more shocked was that she was considering the idea and thinking about it! If Eckhardt ran away.. he'd be able to do anything he wished. He could certainly survive easily, plus he'd be able to find his own destiny in his own way. She could return home without him.. and when Red Bull asked where Eckhardt was, Sarphira could lie and say she had gone looking for him when she noticed he was gone... and conclude to the family that he had definitely vanished someway or somehow. But in truth, he would be FREE.
"Son... this is incredibly hard for me to consider." But she wanted what was best for him. Did she have the heart to do what was right, instead of being selfish? "What if I never see you again? I would be heartbroken." Her eyes started to tear up, and she truly couldn't decide the right thing. Was he even old enough? Soon he would have a growths spurt. Soon his wings would grow big. And soon she would have to push him off anyways...
"I truly don't know what to do." But she would have to decide soon. Her eyes were tearing, but she was still smiling. "What do you want to do, my son?"

He had no idea his mother would cry. He ran back to her side and cuddled her gently. What was scarier was that she was considering everything as an option. "Is freedom.. important? I really had no idea until now." Obviously his mother thought so. He supposed it was time to prove to her that he really was grown up, even if being a momma's boy was fun and playful. He left his mother's side and faced her, puffing his shoulders out as she watched him. He could do this.
"First of all, you will see me again. You will be able to see me so much you will get sick of me, so don't ever worry about that." He would be a real idiot if he abandoned his mother. Abandoning his father was a different issue because Red Bull was never a father figure. Eckhardt always felt like a pawn of some sort when he was around him. But Saphira was always watching him and smiling secretly, sending him motherly signals of love and happiness. Plus his mother was giving him a chance right now. And Eckhardt was prepared to step up for the first time in his life.
"I want to take advantage of this for many reasons." It felt good to be talking so evenly and intelligently to his mother, and he hoped she knew he wasn't playing or joking with her. "If I leave, I will be able to truly become the son I was meant to be. And also, it would give you a reason to return home unharmed, which is what I want as well." he sighed, knowing his father would go crazy if they both just suddenly showed up. "He won't miss me. He won't look for me. This is a blessing, and you have given it to me." But it was still up to his mother. What would she do?

Oh Eckhardt. He was so wonderful. She was starting to believe in him even more. She knew this would happen eventually. Every mother had to watch their babies go. And this baby was definitely starting to become an adult.
"All I can say is that I look forward to seeing you all grown up." She held back any more tears and knew she had to be strong. She was the mother. Her son could finally find true happiness and find the life he had always wanted.
"I know you will come back for me. I also know you will survive and become an amazing individual. I hope you realize that you must truly grow up now. You must become an adult. And you must do everything you've always wanted to do!" She ran up to him and snugged his nose one last time. "I love you and am so proud of you." Yes... this was the best she could do as his mother right now. Either way, although she would miss him every day, she knew in no time they would be back and reunited again. In true freedom. "Please... just be well in all of your endeavors. And seek help if you need it!"

He was starting to realize that the doomed goodbye was coming. His mother was doing it right now, giving him her last words of farwell. Could he do this? Yes. Insecurity could not stop him. Youth could not stop him. Some creatures were meant to find their own ways. He could finally join the ranks of the world and set out on the adventure he had always dreamed of.
"I look forward to seeing you as well. Please be safe and continue to watch over my brothers." He would see them again, and ask them for forgiveness later on. It was ok that he was choosing to do something for himself. He had never done that before in his life. And with his mother's blessing, he could do anything. "I love you too, mother. Thank you for everything you have ever done. I will make sure to always keep you proud." He took a few steps away and felt his legs shake. This was such a strange feeling. He was really doing this. He would have to survive loneliness. But he'd be able to speak and yell as often as he liked. Would he make friends? He would sure try! "Ok... I am going to go now. Please go home and.. expect me back very soon to see you." He wouldn't keep her waiting long.
