It had been a busy past few days for A'ras as he planned a little get together for his wingmates in his off hours. This was first time he had attempted to set up a gathering but considering he didn't really know most of the others in this newly arranged wing, he felt it was time to change that. At least, he wanted to get a better idea of who he and Havocath were flying with during drills. Ok, maybe that was just his excuse but still it sounded like a good one to him. Heck, K'ban had them working their asses off ever time they met. Not that drilling was a bad thing but they rarely socialized like the other Wing did! It was work...and more work.
A'ras couldn't see K'ban, their Wingleader planning a party let alone attending one even if A'ras did invite him and the Wingsecond to the party. Heck, the man was too much of a workaholic and probably spent his nights trying to figure out morning drills before going to bed. Probably slept on his flight plans! Seriously! K'ban needed to loosen up some and P'ren...well P'ren was another piece of work that rankled A'ras' inner core but he tried very hard to keep those thoughts to himself. He didn't like working under that one not one bit. But for now A'ras would push his feelings aside about the matter because if he didn't focus he'd be pulling another all-nighter like he did the other night to remember to make the invitations he had sent out earlier in the week.
Someone had to bring a little spirit fun and camaraderie to the most traditional wing in the Weyr. Shards knew he would have better enjoyed Narjith's wing, which he had affectionately dubbed in his own mind the 'Party Wing'. Why could he not have been assigned there he didn't know! However, tonight he was going to change that view of his wing in his own mind at least even if he had to be the one organizing it! His wing would PARTY!
So parties like this needed more than just people. They needed....booze...food...and games plus a good setting. He didn't want to have it in the dining hall because that's where Narjith's wing met up so he sweet-talked to the women in the kitchen and found some viable options in between the flirtation and the gossip. Considering there were so many empty weyrs, it was possible to use one of those as long as he cleaned up afterwards. Then, their dragons could drop off the riders and the party would be fairly private! All he needed to do was borrow a few tables and chairs for an evening.
So location....check!
Cards were easy almost every rider had a deck. Hopefully the conversation would be more than enough to sustain them....but maybe the girls would like wrestling?
Mmm...that might be nice. Wait! NO! Not with Wingriders! He shook his head trying to stomp out that thought from his head. He had a big thing about trying to avoid flirting with the other members of his wing. Work and 'extracurricular activities' like he had in mind shouldn't meet in the middle!
Havocath chuckled in his rider's head thoroughly amused by A'ras' inner struggle. And all A'ras could do was try to envision all his co-workers as MEN rather than well-toned nimble vixens! Ok maybe it was a good thing he was in the more traditional wing because he didn't have time to think about who was on the other dragon when they were in drills.
But A'ras, I think that some of those greens in our wing are quite spirited and sleek...yum. Mmm...I wouldn't mind mating with one of them in a flight.
Havocath! Shut up! And NO...don't even get that Idea in your big head! No mating with the Co-workers greens!
Games....check! Arrgh!
The chuckling from the big bronze continued long after the comment.
Now for the food and booze...which of course had to be just right for the occasion. For this he had several ideas and many of them sent him running across Pern with his dragon continuing to make comments about fancy green flyers and winking wingriders! It was in these moments that A'ras wished he could turn off the bronze lizard in his head.
Eventually he sorted out his thoughts and got back on track...He wanted Benden wine and a good beer plus some finer Klah just in case someone didn't drink. Then, he stopped off at his family home in Keroon Hold to see his father and the bakery. He enjoyed these times with his father when he could manage it. Just talking like they used to for awhile...catching up about the going ons around the hold and house. Of course, helping his old man in the kitchen scored him the many tasty baked goodies for his party too!
Booze and Food.....check! Oh yes! Mugs and Plates!
By the time the get together was about to start, he had rather a nice arrangement set up if he could say so himself. The table was decorated a nice little table cloth with pies, tarts and some puff pastries and on the other side cups and mugs for the drinks. The chairs covered with blankets were scattered in a loose circle in the living area not far from the open hearth that crackled merrily to keep the weyr warm. Taking a deep breath he hoped his first social engagement with his wing would be a good step towards better relations.

<> Haath informed, rather loudly. <> The speckled green added, as if T'ka didn't already know.
<> T'ka soothed, gently.
<> Haath argued, frustratedly, even as she dropped her rider off.
<> T'ka argued, as she dismounted quickly, before Haath got any more worked up, and decided to fly off and not let T'ka attend the party. That was just the kind of thing Haath would do. In all honesty, T'ka was suprised Haath had flown her here.
<> Haath pleaded, stepping forward, starting to go after Hers. T'ka was a little taken back. Haath rarely, rarely admitted having affection for Hers. Haath was more of a creature of action than words, and even then, she rarely came across as loving. Something must really be bothering her, to have her admit that.
<> T'ka soothed, turning around and caressing Haath's eye ridges on either side of her head. <>
<> Haath burst out, finally, anxiety soaking her mental voice.
T'ka bit her lip to keep from laughing. She was normally very serious, and rarely laughed out loud, but Haath's reason for being upset...why, it was just too much! <> T'ka assured, feeling much better now that she knew the source of her dragon's distress. <>
<> Haath cried, distressed.
T'ka sighed and smiled, leaning against her green to support her. <>
<<...Okay>> Haath agreed reluctantly, stepping back to sit down on a side of the ledge, so there would be room for the other dragons to land and drop of Theirs for the party.
With a sigh and a shake of her head, T'ka entered the room, amused and deeply in love with Haath, the most important lady of her life.

The only reason he was going was because he thought his friends from Ista might be there, the two of them who were in his wing in any case. Frankly he didn't care for the party organizer, and as such was rather weighed down with comestibles of his own to ensure he wasn't at all indebted to A'ras the arse. A bottle of Benden red, one Benden white, a big bag of sweet dried fruit, nuts, and a bag of honey pastries. He also had a pack of cards, a set of dice, and a set of draughts with a cloth board. He remained skeptical about the party in general, however, until he spotted the familiar shape of Haath already on the ledge. At least he'd be able to hang around with one friend from the start.
"Haath!" Raith called cheerfully as she circled down and alighted. "How are you and Yours?" she asked as L'thor leapt lightly from her back to the ground. "Mine is skeptical," she went on with a glance at L'thor, "he does not think much of Havocath's." And she didn't think much of Havocath himself, but unlike her rider Raith tended to keep her prejudices to herself.
L'thor meanwhile turned caught up with T'kar and offered her a smile, shifting the large bag with all his supplies slightly on his shoulder. "Looks like we're about the first here," he commented with a quick glance around, "suppose we should greet our magnanimous host!" So saying, he turned to the bronze rider and offered him a very bright smile. "A'ras," arse, "I brought a few extra bits along, just in case they were needed. Where shall I put them?"

Havocath sat on another ledge not to far away considering his size he didn't want to be in the way as other dragons brought the riders to the party. He understood why A'ras was holding the part and after a long talk, Havocath was going to Attempt to not make a spectacle of himself in front of the other dragons.
For Havocath, he just knew he'd get bored while A'ras socialized. It was taking him awhile to understand the value of socialization. Although one thing stood out, women seemed to be more receptive to it. Well human women that is. With dragons, Havocath sometimes pondered long and hard as he cruised the sky... What do Women want? In answer, A'ras would just laugh, Good question. I don't think they even know at times.
So Havocath took note of the greens and then closed his eyes with slow sigh as his toe nails scrapped on the ledge. He wasn't sure if he wanted to take a nap to make the time go by or just consider a few options for flying and try to listen in as the party went on. Maybe he should get to know his dragon wingmates better. However, the long talk with A'ras earlier had made him almost in a sulky mood so he didn't give any greetings right away. A'ras owed him a long cruise across Pern after this!
A'ras smiled broadly at the two green riders as they entered. "Welcome! Thank you for coming." He glanced at the bag that L'thor carried and the looked back towards the table. "Oh, over there would be fine, L'thor. You shouldn't have but I thank you for bringing things to make the party more festive." As a host, he hadn't expected anything else brought but he wasn't unhappy with the idea either as long as it made his guests were enjoying themselves.
"So you know there's a few bottles of Benden and some various beers from a couple hold brewing families. I also picked up some finer K'lah that's hot in the pot. Plus, Hav and I managed to get some ice from up north if you want a cool drink instead. On the second table is homemade baked goods from my father's bakery in Keroon hold. So please enjoy and let me know what you think." he said as his arm gestured toward the decorated table covered with the goodies and small plates.
"Please make yourselves comfortable. I'm hoping the others will arrive soon."

"I'd say you're right," T'ka responded to L'thor's comment, and offered him a quick, ghost of a smile, before returning to a completely serious state, extending an arm to greet A'ras' with the traditional rider's shake. They may have been wingmates, but formality was tasteful, especially considering she hardly knew the bronzerider. T'ka had no particular bias against bronzeriders. She didn't know any on a personal level, and had few comments to make on them. A'ras' was a fine specimen of a man to be sure, and T'ka could appreciate that, but she was never one to act on impulse. Besides, she had more of an appeciation for the ladies. On top of that, with a dragon as moody and crazed as Haath, flirting would cause insane problems. Then again, she could always use Haath as an excuse to leave, if the party got too bad.
"Pardon me, I'll be taking a drink now," T'ka excused, scooting off to take up a cup of Klah. She was never one for alcohol, it dulled her senses, which she didn't appreciate. Add that to the fact that Haath might explode if her rider did anything scandalous in a drunken stupor...alcohol, even Benden's best, just wasn't worth it.
She was, however, reassured now that L'thor was here. Even after the time she'd spent here in High Reaches, she was still attached to Ista, and her fellow riders from down in the tropics were held in high regard. No matter what happened tonight, at least she had backup and loyalty in L'thor, and would provide him with the same.
Haath was pleased to see Raith. Well, as pleased as Haath could be anyway. Raith was a familiar, Istan face in this land of strangers, and Haath tolerated the other green, which was more than could be said of a lot of other dragons. So much so that Haath would admit to Raith being her clutchmate. Not that they were from the same clutch, but dragons Haath approved of were labled as siblings in Haath's mind.
<> Haath adressed, perking up a little, and scooting a little towards her friend. Like the stereotypical green, Haath did have a penchant for chatting and gossip, despite her demeanor. <> Haath explained, glaring at the entrance of her cave. Haath wasn't worried about L'thor, however. T'ka had explained to her a while ago why L'thor wouldn't be giving her any babies, but...Haath couldn't remember it. And since Raith was a green, it wasn't like there would be a mating flight, so...Haath figured L'thor was relatively safe.
<> Haath tried to remember just what Hers had said. <<...For the sake of Wing relations. She is silly. I think we should stay in our Weyr or take a bath. I do not like parties.>> Haath complained, already starting to chat it up. After all, Haath was very good at talking about things she didn't like.
If she had bothered to look around and spot Havocath, she would have given him the evil eye. Haath didn't have anything against bronzes either, except for the fact that a bronze could chase her in a mating flight, and that bronze riders might give hers a baby. And Haath didn't want there to be a baby! Astarteth could flirt with those bronzes all she wanted, Haath didn't have the temperment for such things anyway.

"Oh yes," Raith turned her head back towards the weyr for a moment, "Havoacth's. He has quite a reputation I hear, but I think Yours has better taste. Even if she didn't," the sleek green shot her friend the draconic equivalent of a reassuring grin, "a quick jump between would solve the problem... Mine wasn't too thrilled by the idea of coming here either," she went on, "but he thought Yours and Condorth's might be here. Perhaps if things get too dull or unpleasant, the three of us could remove ourselves for a private get together, with Astarteth and Hers too." That sounded like a lot more fun than having to hang around that bronze wherever he was, she couldn't be bothered to look for him. Still, she supposed it made sense to get to know him a little.
"No trouble at all," L'thor said with an unnecessarily bright smile as he deposited his contributions on the table. He then opened a bottle of Benden red, the one he had brought, and poured himself a goblet. You could choose to interpret his actions as a snub, or just as taking the closest bottle; L'thor made no move to swing A'ras' view one way or the other. "Good health," he said cheerfully, raising his glass to the other two riders before dropping down onto a comfortable chair. Now what? Polite conversation with the bronze rider, he supposed. "You've certainly gone to a lot of effort here," he commented after taking a sip of his wine, "I'm sure anyone who doesn't show up will be very sorry they missed this, eh T'kar?"
It would amuse him if they were the only two who bothered, it would just go to show A'ras wasn't as popular as perhaps he hoped, but it would be quite dire to have to deal with the man just between the two of them. A'ras embarrassed and himself frustrated and annoyed, or A'ras smug and himself able to get decent conversation; it was just impossible to decide which outcome he would prefer.

A'ras clasped T'ka's arm as tradition allowed with a firm grip to match her own. Then released with a warm smile upon his lips. If he liked what he saw of T'ka, he certainly did not betray that look in his face, in fact his eyes remained firmly where they should be..on hers...rather than drifting to other places.
Havocath watched the greens from his vantage point not making any actions to get involved with either of them. Usually, he might have bugled a greeting but tonight, he attempted to restrain himself and stay out of trouble. Mostly, beyond a bit of sulking, he felt the need to be A'ras' support as a few of these riders were from Ista and he already knew A'ras' feelings about the Wingleader and Wingsecond. Overall, beyond the drills maybe this group was better off not knowing each other but A'ras had been determined to make some welcoming gesture. Havocath huffed just a hair thinking they could have enjoyed a quiet flight over Pern instead of him watching two tittering greens, who seemed by their movements all in all in the stages of female gossip.
If this doesn't go well, A'ras, do you want to take a flight tonight?
Ah, sure Hav. That would be nice. If the party fails, it fails. I don't expect anything tonight but a good time if that can be had. And well, if it doesn't work out. Look at all the baked goodies I will have for myself! Thanks for helping me with this Hav.
With a smile he walked over to the table and took a small goblet and poured himself a drink. Sure, he saw what bottle L'thor had chosen but it didn't seem to change his demeanor. "To good health for dragons and men." he responded in return and then took a sip before finding a warm chair to sit down in. "Well, I thought it might be fun for a change. The other wing always has get togethers after drills so I thought we should do something outside of the daily grind. Didn't really have an great expectations. I wasn't sure if your wings at Ista had any down time engagements but it was my hope just to get to know my fellow wingriders a little better."
To him it was a fair enough idea. Heck, if he were going to rely on these people during threadfall, he hoped to at least know them and their dragons better. Worst came to worse, if he learned that group didn't mesh, maybe he could transfer to a better matched wing or maybe K'ban would choose replacements.
"So it must be a bit of a change coming from Ista to here. Seems we've been getting in a few candidates transfered over as well. Are you and yours settling in well?" he asked as he took a bite of a puff pastry. For a brief moment he had to close his eye and savor the flavor. It was a small piece of his childhood that never ceased to fill him with comfort and happiness. Fortunate for him he was a busy man because it would have been easy to become a fat man upon his father's craft.

}~{If there aren't going to be any other OOC people throwing their characters in, are we to assume that NPCs will be arriving?}~{
T'ka at first elected to remain standing, but after a moment or two of eyeing the chairs, she changed her mind and sat down. They looked comfy, and were. She stretched out her legs, but didn't imediately move to make herself terribly comfortable. T'ka wasn't ready to kick back and relax yet. Maybe in a little bit. She appreciated A'ras' intentions to get the wing together. No matter how well it worked out, he'd earned a few points from her, for his hopefully good intentions. Still, one incident wouldn't cement good feelings, so she stayed open and tried to remain unbiased.
"I think it's well of you to try something like this, A'ras," T'ka assured, in response to his admitting doubts about the party. "I can't say I went to many personal get togethers with my wingmates down in Ista...though not for lack of trying. Haath doesn't like the idea of me having a social life," she joked, but with such a flat tone that anyone who didn't know her would likely miss it.
T'ka didn't mind her wingmates here in High Reaches. The wingleader and wingsecond admittedly left something to be desired. They weren't exactly supportive of her, and held her to much higher standards. But that was fine. T'ka was confident in her and Haath's ability to perform. At least she knew L'thor and and K'lan to be solid and dependable, and that was more than she could have asked for. Hopefully A'ras' would prove to be an ally as well. And if not...she didn't need him anyway.
<> Haath said with a mental sigh, and a little toss of the head. She flicked her tail and snorted, at the mention of Astarteth's name. Her sibling, eternal rival and friend, Haath would have missed sharing a Weyr with her, like they had down at Ista, if she could remember that far back. Condoroth was nice too. Patient and willing to put up with Haath's frequent mood swings and tantrums, Haath liked her as well. A green get together sounded nice. She would have to tell Hers about it.
<> Haath admitted, tilting her head a little, as her mind stretched to try and think about things in the future. Planning ahead was never something that Haath could do, so she felt it best to inform hers now, so that Haath didn't forget the idea later.
<> Haath informed, promptly.
<> T'ka assured. But she didn't intend to leave now. It would be rude. She wanted to be a good guest, as much as A'ras' was trying to be a good host. The pastries certainly smelled good. Maybe she would indulge herself in one. She held her own cup up for the toast, and nodded in agreement. Good health, what was life without it? It was a respectable, if generic thing to toast to. Especially after all that had happened here.
"Haath and I are acclimating well," T'ka assured, mildly. "She misses sharing a Weyr with her sister though, I think. Not that she'd admit to it. The transfer was a lot easier though, seeing as how there were a lot of other Istans who came along. It's nice to see friendly faces around." And hopefully she would make a few more friends, now that she was here.

"I wish I could say Mine was sensible," a brighter shade of blues flared around Raith's eyes, emulating a human eye roll. "He has less sense than a flitt; I'm just hoping he doesn't make an enemy of Havocath's tonight, it would be better if we and Ours could at least tolerate and be tolerated by all our wingmates." So far however, she had to admit, L'thor was behaving himself. Nevertheless, she gave him a mental nudge, reminding him to keep it up.
"Still, either after this gathering breaks up, or tomorrow," Raith switched to the more pleasant subject with a slight nod. "It will be good to get the eight of us together again." She didn't remember Ista, but she still knew that they had all come from there together, possibly because that fact lingered in her lifemate's mind quite a lot.
"I socialized with some members of my wing," L'thor said eventually, accepting Raith's prod to be civil reluctantly. "Only the ones I was friends with anyway though. Getting to know everyone at least reasonably well is a good idea. As for settling..." he shrugged, "I'm still not used to the weather. The space is good though, the food, and I've not managed to make any enemies yet... Having some other folk from Ista here has definitely made it easier though," he concluded with a smile and a tip of his cup to T'kar.

A'ras took a sip of his Benden red after taking another taste of the pastries he had on his plate. " Mm...Thank you T'ka. If we must trust each other to do our parts during threadfall having socials like these should help at least imbue some confidence. Well, I can't say perfectly but I'd rather do my part than leave it up to chance. " He paused for a moment taking in T'ka next statement. "Haath doesn't like you having a social life?" He didn't know T'ka well enough to catch the joke so he didn't laugh but well some dragons were odd about relations...but considering T'ka made it to the party must mean that she had bit of influence over hers. A'ras never could guess up front the dominant one of dragon/rider partners until he started conversing. Signs generally started to show in the way people spoke.
"I'm glad to hear that you and yours are settling in nicely. I've not been to Ista but the rumors about the conditions there didn't seem heartening. However, here too we must be careful considering one Hold gives tithe to two Weyrs. It's an unusual balance game we've been playing with Telgar Weyr. And hopeful one that won't be strained too much in the future." He tried to keep his ears open about the politics in the Weyr because as a bronze rider, people had odd expectations of him plus his own feelings of Telgar Weyr was quite a mixed bag. He didn't think much of their policies and well that obviously entered into his mixed feelings about his current wingleader and wingsecond.
"The weather is quite a change for most Ista transfers I think. I can't say I'm to fond of the cold either and rather be on the beach myself." His skin seemed to have an even tanned glow about it so it obviously was the case. "I will take the amount of space here than try to live in some of the other Weyrs. We've more well-sized weyrs compared to even Telgar. But of course there are smaller ones but I doubt anyone will be assigned those for awhile."
"Excuse me." looked up and then stood for a moment walking off to greet other arrivals. Being a good host he wanted to make sure everyone was welcomed tonight.
Havocath finally decided to be a slight bit more social even if A'ras had wanted him to remain a bit distance tonight. Sitting up on another close vacant weyr's ledge, he readjusted his large wings and then glanced over at the greens, "Hello...Are your riders enjoying the party within?"
