Skan Kanati was still much in a haze since his father had passed. It was easier to pretend to others that he was fine, but the fake smile was starting to grow stale. It wasn't as easy as he thought it was to act nice to everyone. While he wasn't a mean lion, he wasn't terribly patient, and being so empathetic to others when he himself was a mess was just too much to ask.

With a grunt, he flopped onto a warm rock, sunning himself in the late-morning rays. He wouldn't be able to stay for too long, but it would be a decent way to relax before it grew too hot. Hopefully no one would really be looking for him (like, a family member. geez.)

Making her way (rather rapidly) through the browning grasses, Woha'li Galu'nadi smiled to herself, thinking of the way Ama and Binti had been eyeing one another when she'd beaten a hasty retreat. It was hard not to be happy for the pair, even if it did occasionally have its slightly-awkward moments.

Pushing her way through a tall clump of hardy tundra grasses, Woha'li froze for a moment as she caught sight of Skan, before continuing forward. Much like his father, the young male before her was one who she'd seen around, but who she'd never before actually had reason to speak to. Clearing her throat, she inclined her head respectfully in greeting, not wanting to disturb him unduly, but feeling that manners dictate she do something other than attempt to slink by unnoticed. "Good morning."

He raised his head, as he had happened to barely doze on the warm rock. It was incredible, and he could never believe why he teased his father so for doing it so often. Shaking himself awake from the sleepy state he had put himself in, he quickly recognized the lioness. Woha'li. She had won the battle part of the Festival. And honestly...he had been quite surprised. Being the wandinasi he couldn't participate (and he would have, totally), it had been interesting to see such a lioness climb through the ranks to the top.

He couldn't help but straighten himself up a bit. "Morning," he replied, his green eyes inquisitively studying her. "Woha'li of the Sky clan. Your reputation is quite impressive from the Festival." He couldn't help but to add that on, as it was fairly common knowledge in the pride.

Sitting back on her haunches, Woha'li eyed Skan somewhat in surprise, blinking once. "My thanks, wanidatsi. I was fortunate--there were a number of others with far more skill than I." She'd enjoyed the controlled ferocity of the competition, and the chance to test herself with some of her pridemates. She debated commenting on the grace with which he'd led the pride in grieving the passing of his father, but decided that that sort of remark would be too presumptuous.

Espression open, Woha'li smiled, a flash of white that disappeared just as quickly as she motioned toward him with one dark paw. "Taking advantage of the quiet to steal a quick nap in the sun?" she asked. "If you want, I can forget I even saw you here..." she offered, tilting her head slightly to one side.

Modest. Even if it was in the end, just a test and a game, he would still consider himself impressed. And a little amused that his competitive brother hadn't made it to the top, either. Ah well, that was for another day, another chat.

Besides, being called wanidatsi was a little...odd. While it was never his father's title, it should have been.

Intiruged by her smile, curious if he had missed something said between words, he shook his head. "No, it's alright. I wasn't really planning to nap anyway. I'm certain someone would have found me sooner or later." With probably something that just couldn't wait. Ugh. "Probably sooner, before I even made it to the rock."

Looking sympathetic, Woha'li coiled her tail loosely around her foreleg, thinking for a brief moment before continuing. "Well, I can't fault you for at least attempting it--the weather's warm enough as to be no good for much of anything else..." She trailed off, her violet eyes hinting at amusement before her expression shifted slightly, serious once again.

"If there's anything I can do to help..." she offered, thinking that there must be a lot for the young male to assume, responsibility-wise, with his father's recent death. Eyeing him carefully, she then grinned. "Perhaps laying a misleading trail while you flee?"
