Today was the day!

Demy had been eagerly awaiting this day, and at last it was here! What could get Demy -this- worked up? Why a new videogame at the arcade of course! The blonde was practically dancing from foot to foot waiting to go in. ....From an outsider's view it probably looked like an over enthusiastic version of the potty dance. Oh well!

AT LAST! When the arcade finally opened it's doors for the day's business Demy scrambled in and off to a token machine to get some tokens before the rushing crowd could drain the machines! ...At least that's what he told himself, because honestly the arcade was looking a bit empty today. But hey, it didn't hurt to make things more exciting in your mind, right?

Besides, if it was still looking a little empty after he hit up the new game, he could go make sure he still had high score on Guitar Hero! Perfect! Pocket jingling with tokens, Demy wandered his way to the new machine and slid into a seat to play.

...Now if only he had a secondary player to really get the full experience of the new game.

Crit, crit, and crit some more! There was an advantage and disadvantage to having a room to yourself: for one, you didn't have to wait for your roomie to look away when you changed, or bang on the door for it to be unlocked. On the downside, there was only one person to blame when your wallet went missing: yourself.

Late and victorious after discovering his wallet beneath his bed, Alexander arrived at the arcade out of breath and... not late? He stood up with a "Woosh!" of relief.

The boy entered the arcade, stopping to compose himself as he scanned the room. The new game had to be around here somewhere... Aha! It looked like there was someone there too, but it looked like the new game was for two! With a grin, Alex headed towards Demy and plunked down in the seat next to him. "Hey! Mind a second player?" He asked, already picking up the guitar before rummaging in his pockets for the tokens he didn't spend yesterday. "Given it's a new game and all, might as well be first to wear the controllers out and stuff right? Right!"

PERFECT! A grin crossed the blonde's face as the newcomer plopped down. Not only was this someone to play the game with, but if things went his way it would be someone to -beat- at the game, and show off to of course. A perfect start to this game's new life in the local arcade.

"Don't mind at all man, I was actually hoping someone would show up!"
Demy already had his own controller setup, and his tokens out and ready. He'd wait for the other to insert coins before putting his own into the machine.
"I hope you're ready to play though, just because this is a new machine doesn't mean I'm gonna go easy on it!"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:27 pm

Ooooh would Demetri be in for a surprise once the fingers hit the start button.

"Ha! Who's lookin' for easy?" Alex challenged, settling the guitar-controller comfortably on his lap. He tested out the buttons and gave it a few strums before he slid his quarters in, a wide grin on his face. "Do you feel that! The buttons don't stick! Smooth and easy, and clean for once! Man y'know that other Guitar Hero machine? Someone must've taken their gum out with their fingers before playing that 'cause man are those buttons gross to use! At least the place started cleaning the machines more often than twice a week but it's a total mood killer y'know?

Anyway what song first and crank up the difficulty man!"

"I don't -play- on easy, I meant I won't play so hard the machine craps out on the first go, ya know man? I refuse to play on anything less than expert anyway."
Quarters in, Demy moved his difficulty down to the expert level and shot a grin to the other kid.
"Oh you mean that machine back there?"
He gestured, knowing full well where it was. He played on it rather often afterall.
"Yeah, it's pretty nasty man but it's an experience ya know? Gives the thing some character. You don't get that with the home console. Unless you let a gajillion friends come over and play."

Grin still present, he selected a nice fast paced song for their first challenge. Demy simply wasn't happy playing the game unless his fingers were absolutely -flying- up and down the frets to hit the keys, so this kind of song was right up his alley.
"Ready man?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:51 pm

"So you'd rather play easy when the machine's about to give out? Man! These things are built to withstand Hillworth's tuba players after a practice!" Alex retorted, adding, "Or most of Hillworth, actually, considering the location of this place to the school but less jabber and put it on expert already!"

He shuddered. "An experience that's not very nice if you're in the middle of eating some fries, y'know? Was torn between continuing to chow down or wuss out to wash my hands and return to find some chump ate'em all. Fries never tasted the same after that." Alex shrugged. "Then again, I've had worse."

Oh, this song? Alex squinted at the screen and tilted his head to one side. How did it go again...? He stretched his hands and zipped his hand up and down the length of the guitar, oblivious to the innuendo as he warmed up. "Ready as ever!" He replied, slapping the button to make it start before his fingers began to fly up and down, his head bobbing to the beat.

Okay really, he was getting kinda annoyed. Demy didn't play on easy. He never did, this kid was just...ARGH.
"You are -not- understanding man. I do not -play- on easy. Got that? Pretty sure I just said that, you might want to clean out your ears."
Not that he could talk, it wasn't like he was the world's best listener either.
"It's a figure of speech man, -going- easy, not -playing- ON easy. Geeze."

Once that music started, all annoyance was gone and the happy carefree Demy was back in place. His own fingers flying up and down, the blonde kept a pretty damn good pace with both the game and his opponent. Though rather than bobbing to the beat, Demy could be seen glancing around the arcade. Despite the 'distraction', it didn't seem to do any harm to his playing.

"Uh dude? I'm tellin you that it's still on easy difficulty man. Crank it u- OH! Aha! There we go!" Alex dropped the topic as soon as the indicator for difficulty changed on his screen. "Bummer, looks like there's a bit of delay between the machines. Unless it's glitching out already, which would kinda suck but hey it's not my problem."

Whereas Demy looked, Alex's complete attention was on the game. Fingers tapping, head bobbing and humming along, he was oblivious to the arcade around him. Then again, he didn't prefer these songs that required jumping from key to key in a quick and seemingly random manner. At least it held his attention, though!

A delay sucked, but it was something he'd have to comment on later. Maybe the game just needed a warmup before it'd start working perfectly? Who knew! It was playing just fine now, so no worries, right?

Demy kept one eye on the game, and another on other areas of the arcade. He loved this song, he loved playing the game this way, and he loved his ability to play the game and glance around without missing a beat. It satisfied his lack of an attention span perfectly.
"Hand tired yet man? You're doing pretty good!"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:19 pm

"I'm still alive and kickin' man!" Alex replied, wincing as he stumbled across a note before picking his fingers back up to jump up and down the controller's neck. "How 'bout you? Still strummin? I'd look but then I'd miss my POWERUP yeeeeah suckka! Dun na na na naaa ta da na naaa!"

...Did Alexander just hum a Final Fantasy victory theme?

Why yes, he just did. Even if it threw him off the song's rhythm and hurt his score, he was still grinning and kept chugging away.

"'Course I'm still strumming, and I'm not hurting at all!"
Nor was he using his powerup, but he was waiting for a full bar and a part of the song absolutely loaded with notes. Might as well make full use of it right?

And oh hey, here was the perfect example of such a spot in the song! Grin widening, Demy threw back his controller to activate his powerup and watched the points fly. Ha ha! Take that mysterious opponent who he didn't know but...well damn he seemed pretty good at this game. At least it wasn't a -boring- match.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 14, 2009 6:13 pm

And there went the powerup. At least he wasn't making the same mistake like he did before when he first started playing the game, mistaking the glowing blue powered up notes for... well, the blue key. That was awkward, but at least he had the excuse that the button jammed on him to make up for it.

He never forgot about that, though. Stupid little blue key.

The boy wasn't experienced enough to be able to multitask and look around as Demy was doing, but he did stand up and strummed with all his might once Demy's delightful cluster of notes came up! Whoo! ROCKSTAR POSE!

Demy -loved- that blue key. He loved the orange key even more.

"Nice moves man!"
The game always looked better when the people playing -really- got into it. Man, maybe after this game Demy would have to find out the name of this kid. He could -always- use more friends who loved to hang around the arcade.

The blonde held out, doing pretty darn well through the remainder of the song. As the scores tallied up, Demy shot a grin to the other kid.
"Pretty awesome huh? I think we're breaking in the new machine rather well."

The orange key was the bane of Alex's existence until he discovered where it was hidden. Cheeky programmers and designers.

"Heh! Thanks!" Alex replied quickly, his fingers tapping and rapping against the plastic until the song came to an end. He flopped back down onto his seat (after looking, of course! He was always wary of the tumb tack on chair trick) and leaned back, flexing his fingers as the totals went up. He winced at his score, then shrugged. "Maan! This type of stuff isn't my strong point, but hey -- nice score man!" Even though Demy beat him, Alex wasn't too upset. He could always blame the lag.

"Up for another round?" He asked, strumming his way through the alphabet to put in his own high score. Sure it was #2... but it just meant he could stay after his blond opponent left to beat his score, heehee!

Nevermind it was several thousand points more.
