I got an interesting idea from part of a conversation going on in the superstitions thread. Ants in your underpants made an interesting point. Ants In Your Underpants Jump into the sky I finally understand,
The main source of magic has been sealed blocked off ,what magic we do have is a leak in the seal basically like a broken pipe. and all forces of darkness control that little magic.
IE why all magic is evil i say magic is evil now and will explain magic is like water which is good ,once you throw poison into it , it becomes tainted (not good).
The main reason magic has been sealed was due.. to a Sorcerer having to stop a evil creature from being summoned . I dought we will ever get it back and true fully we shouldn't get it back. -looks at the governments of the world-
all superstitions are real but due to the seal on magic the effects are not active or effecting anyone . well most of the people /being controlling most superstitions where killed due to there harm to others.
Only one place magic seems to be active is the spirit world/(when you sleep you know).
Wow this went off-topic kinda sorry. and pierce the darkness of space. And it got me thinking. If magic were in the world today, I'm not talking our new age natural witch magick from wiccan and pagan beliefs I'm talking full out sorcerer/sorceress magic. Could humanity handle it or would the power go to their heads and taint it?

Valid point and to a certain degree I agree with you, too much power is not a good thing. I mean we abuse the power we already have and magic would more than likely make things more violent. But with that all said I still think that we could handle it. Laws would obviously be made just like any sorce of power or weapon, gun laws are a perfect example.
Magic is a tool to be harnessed and it really comes down to the people who control that tool whether it is used for good or bad. If we were to say humanity can't handle magic we might as well say that we can't handle any other kind of tool. A knife or a hammer is a tool that can be used to build as well as do damage. Should those tools be banned and whiped from the world because we can't handle that kind of power? I know that knives and hammers aren't quite the same thing as magic but it's a point none the less.
We have a tool for almost anything these days. Flame throwers, nuke's, hoses, guns, knives, gravity control centers (not sure what to call them), explosives. It would come down to the laws laid out and the extent that we went to for making sure order is maintained.

I think it would depend on the people. But yeah laws could be made and there would be punishments for those who couldn't follow the rules. I know people who would use the magic/power for both good and bad.

In general...No. People are already doing so many horrible things without it, doubtless it'll cause more atrocities. The law never stopped people from murdering, right? I'm not exactly sure set rules will stop it.
Until humankind can find peace, I don't think it should happen just yet...

Jump into the sky I believe one day the magic everyone sees in story books and fairy tails will return one day. back in olden types way before knights and kings days but
maybe it would be good if powerful magic was restored to this world , it maybe easyer to stop than a nuke and pierce the darkness of space.

I’ll erase this feeling… I still have a long life don’t I? kono omoi wo keshiteshimau ni ha mada jinsei nagai deshou? It all depends on the person and what their intentions are. If the person is I suppose good-hearted they may be able to use it. However magic is something of a great power, and power does corrupt absoulutely, doesn't matter if they're good-hearted or not. It all depends on the intent. I’m missing the feeling… so this pain is also welcomed! natsukashiku naru konna itami mo kangeijan

I think raw magic will never belong to humans because we are not the creators of it, neither do I think we deserve it.

Wow, what an interesting topic.
Should humanity be allowed to have magic?
I do believe that humans who are aware of the fact that magic exists are able to harness a small amount of magic, to a degree, but we are unable to tap into the large amount that is out there for whatever reason there may be for that. (Perhaps we abused it in the past and so it was, mostly, taken away from us. Perhaps, with the ascent of technology, humans, for the most part, lost belief in it and, thus, magic started to decline. Perhaps it was sealed away. Perhaps we are not as connected with the natural world as our ancestors were and we lost the knowledge of how to access it. It is hard to say, isn't it?)
So, do I believe humanity as a whole should have access to magic? That's a tough question to answer. Power is so often subject to abuse...not to mention that there is the fact that humans oft-times fear that which they do not understand. It is very likely that humanity may grow to resent and fear those who wield the most power. To have magic would be a huge responsibility, to be sure.
Is humanity ready for it now? Absolutely not. There is too much greed and violence in the world, and magic would definitely be abused to further personal and political gain. Will humanity be ready for it down the road? Possibly. It's hard to say.

I do use magic though. I am a witch and proud of it and I have moderate successs. I think any one willing to work at magic would be able to handle it, those not willing to work simply don't have power over it. Magic isn't just saying some magic words and waving a wand you know. It's hard work and you get out of it what you put into it.

Magic enables me to connect with everything and to feel the power of my own soul, and of the will of all the spirits around me. I dread the notion of cutting that off from everyone who seeks it.
Its there for anyone brave enough to face being branded a lunatic, I'm in the process of compiling research for a book on how science religion and magic can interweave instead of colliding, and I feel it can be a great gift to the world...
But I fear the foul work of will-workers like myself who, unlike myself, have no concern for others at all.
Plus I've always hated elitist magical orders like golden dawn who think their so wonderful and better than everyone else. Any normal person can learn magic if their interested in it enough to apply themselves. I voted the option that I think its a dangerous power but that "good will prevail" I guess I'm kind of cheesy like that.
One safety measure is I think the people who tend to be good at magic, tend to be interested in the magic itself and not just the results. That should weed out some of the people who want to use magic greedily. Should Einstein have withheld his discoveries in fear of the hydrogen and atom weapons?

I agree with you Faeries!! Maybe there are a few select individuals out there who could handle the power and responsibility that would come with its use, but the majority of humanity could not, at present, handle it. Humans as a whole oft let what power they do have go to their heads as it is. I don't think we need anything else in our world to contribute to that problem.
Laws only go so far. Not everyone follows the laws we have now. Trying to enforce new ones where magic would be involved would be near impossible! We can't stop drug traffickers, murderers, child molesters, rapists, thieves, etc., without magic in their hands. Give them that power and only the gods could imagine what they would be capable of!

It is up to the person, mentally and morally as to what they do with magic. If magic is used for materialistic reasons, or selfishness that is not good with any justification; a person will reap what they sow. Magic should that little gift that makes you smile, a tool to help, not hinder the day to day things in one's life.
I agree with everyone here. You all are right.
