She tapped the tape recorder once, waiting a couple of seconds before a small red light confirmed "Recording" on the tiny lcd screen.

With a satisfied sort of look, she sauntered back onto her chair, giving the contents of her table a once-over. The desk was aligned perfectly, invisible edges stretching into infinite parallel lines with the ground. The books on the table were aligned perfectly, invisible edges stretching into parallel lines with the desk. Her note book was aligned perfectly with the books, desk, chair, and her pen...

... was not. Narrowing her eyes, she fussed with her pen, checking meticulously to make sure it was indeed now aligned with notebook, books, desk, chair, wall, before facing her intended 'client'. Resting both elbows on the desk, she folded her hands together, chin resting a little on the propped position.

"So," Here, Mindy pretended to look at her notebook, "Prospective client number one. What assets do you think you can offer to my... army?"

Sitting with her back upright and hands in lap, Emily watched the other girl's fussing patiently. This was an important undertaking, and should be treated as such, any small distractions that could put Miss Mindy off her game are not to be tolerated in these circumstances. Emily gave Mindy's pen a "don't do that again" stare before sitting even straighter as she considered the question just asked.

"I can clean up after it." Emily paused, cleaning was very important around Miss Mindy, but what else? "I can also lift it's heavy furniture and open jars for it," she continued with a small nod of satisfaction. But these were all things the future world leader were well aware of. Fortunately, Emily had been saving a couple surprises for just such an occasion. With a delicate cough, she went on, "I also have a newly acquired Ninja Master Prep ($58.95, can also cut tomatoes.) As well as a Russian goldmine."

It was fortunate that young Viktor had contacted her about purchasing it only last month. Though Emily was still a bit concerned as to how he had known her email, seeing as she had been unaware of his existence before receiving his message.

Mindy's left eye had begin twitching again. It was not because of Emily's offer to clean up the army, nor the Ninja Master Prep, which could potentially be lethal did it not have to be plugged in within a 5 foot radius, or even the suspicious acquisition of a "Russian gold mine".

She forced herself to lean back for a second, trying to keep the smile plastered on her face for the sake of the camera. "That is great, prospective client number one." If her words could drip bold italics, they would have at this point. This was Mindy's way of telling Emily oh-so-subtly that perhaps she had missed something. "But I wouldn't mind you telling me maybe a little more about how it is an honour to try out for my army because...?"

Though to the camera's eye it looked like Mindy was practicing her eye-rolling techniques, she was actually trying to signal to Emily her 'character role's' script. Mainly, the script Mindy had written up for Emily prior to the recording for the exact reason for the recording. Cleverly pasted to the camera-blind side of the wall were words that began with "It is an honour to try out for your army because..." and went from there.

Oh, so that was what Miss Mindy wanted to know. Odd that she would ask such an obvious question, but Emily knew that her mistress always did things for excellent reason. Also she seemed a little bit agitated just now, so questioning her undoubtedly superior reasoning was simply not to be done.

Giving Miss Mindy's rogue pen (doubtlessly the cause of said agitation) a final warning stare, Emily answered simply and with pride, "It is an honor to try out for your army because you told me to."

The maid was determined that Miss Mindy would have no cause to regret her demands.

"That's right," Mindy confirmed immediately, all this well-rehearsed in her mind, "My doctrine of- wait a second! All right, cut!"

As there was clearly a lack of minions (as of yet) who were not seated answering questions, to do her bidding, an awkward moment passed before the long-haired girl sighed and flounced over, stopping the camera herself. By now, her nerves had gotten the better of her; whatever forces that were restraining her temper seemed to be on the fritz, all in all giving her the threatening and awe-inspiring aura of a fourteen-year-old girl pouting. One day in the future Mindy might learn how much of an awful Evil Overmistress Glare she actually had, but for now, she had resorted to said expression and a quick count to ten. No wait, 0 was a horrible number, it wasn't straight at all, eleven, eleven was a good number.

"Emily," Mindy began, trying to find some way of explaining to the other exactly what she was thinking. She pointed towards the wall. "I wrote that for you." And then towards the camera. "So I can record you saying that. Besides you're my best fr- maid," Mindy had forgotten for a second that there was no higher endowment of honour for Emily than being called a 'maid' for some reason, "how exactly do you try out for my army if I already know you?"

The study room phone rang, but Mindy was too busy practicing her not so-threatening Evil Glare, version 1.0 to be paying any attention to it.

Emily quivered a little bit and fought down a blush, Miss Mindy had just called her, "my best maid." Not just good, or great, or even amazing. Best. It was obvious now, the purpose of all this. How like Miss Mindy to go this far just for her maid. Her best maid.

With a sparkling aura, Emily replied softly, "I'm so honored you feel that way Miss, I will do my best to never disappoint you in this and anything else you wish of me." It was so kind, to set up all this just to tell Emily that she didn't actually need to try out for the army, because she already was part of Miss Mindy's army. With a firm, determined nod, the maid stood up and went to answer the phone.

"This is Future World Dictator Mindy Lee's study. May I ask who you are and of what use you will be to Miss Mindy?"

"Emily?" Came the other voice from the line, a rather haggard voice belonging none other to Mindy's well-established and mostly well-meaning father. "Can you tell my daughter to stop playing her make believe games and actually start packing up for the move to school? You two should have been done hours ago."

There were no "ifs" and "buts" for people of the Lee household: the father's word was final, and the click on the other end of the receiver confirmed that.

Mindy, however, had caught not a single word of the conversation, and was more peeved at how Emily had clearly misinterpreted her Evil Glare for her Thank You For Cleaning Up My Room Glare, which sometimes happened, the difference between the two was really just one fraction of an eyebrow raise. Disinterested, she began toggling with the camcorder again, determined to make it right this time, this time for sure. "Ok Emily, you know what to do this time right?"

Whether this was the fourth or the tenth time, Mindy had seriously lost track. It was ok: she had CLEARLY communicated properly to Emily her real intentions, and they were finally going to get it, if her name was not Mindy Ashleigh Lee.

Emily's normally firm, upright shoulders drooped a bit at the reminder that their packing hadn't been finished yet. This was an epic failure on her part! This should have been finished yesterday, but her own ineptitude had caused Emily to take much too much time making sure that all boxes were packed with items in perfectly straight lines and precise stacking.

At Miss Mindy's question, she turned to the other girl with a resolute spark in her eyes. She knew exactly what to do, and it was going to be done. As thoroughly and perfectly as possible. "Yes, Miss, I will definitely get this finished." No matter what, the packing would be finished! Lowering her eyes, she turned her head to the side, "I'm sorry, Miss Mindy, even after telling you I wouldn't disappoint..."

Obviously, Emily still had a ways to go, if she were to ever truly be the "best maid."

Now, Mindy had known Emily for a long long time. It was hard to think of a time when Emily had not served for her "Miss", as it was reiterated over and over again until one could think they could use it as a weapon to bludgeon someone with. With that thought in mind, Mindy also knew when Emily was having one of her moments where she just really did not want to disappoint. It almost made her feel bad, if she wasn't an evil Over-Mistress-to-be sort of character.

She paused for a second from between toggling with her camcorder, trying to think of something soothing to say. All that she could currently think of was either "It's ok just listen to my voice instead," or "I'm doomed", but her daddy had lectured her time and again that Emily was NOT just a housekeeper but also a valuable friend, and she should treat her that way.

At least in front of her parents.

Finally satisfied that the last botch was deleted and done with, Mindy quickly pressed the recording button with one delicate finger, and slid back onto her seat, doing her routine of checking the desk, the books, the journal, and then the pen. Good everything in place.

"Now, prospective client number one." Mindy began again, "What assets do you think you can offer to my army?"

It was only then that she realized there was a slight problem: mainly 'Propspective Client Number One' being a little MIA from the recording.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 4:59 pm

Prospective Client Number One was currently unfolding several packing boxes and collecting a roll of packaging tape with a "this-is-Emily-being-efficient" speed. Emily had taken Miss Mindy's thoughtful pause to mean "yes, carry on with the packing and don't disappoint me again!" Carrying everything back into the study, the maid began to make quick work of taking down all of Miss Mindy's favorite books, giving each a good cleaning with a dust rag before setting them aside for packing.

Turning to her mistress, Emily asked, "Miss, would you prefer these to be packed alphabetically by author or by title? And would you like the video camera to be included with the regular electronics, or with your record keeping supplies?"

She watched helplessly for a second as Emily began methodically sorting through her shelved books. Wait a second, 'helpless', was not a word in Mindy's dictionary, unless it involved a victim of hers, preferably helplessly dying under her killer glare. It was always good to have realistic dreams after all.

Later, the recording WILL proceed later. The study room bookcase was clearly slightly crooked now that it was not weighed down by half its contents, and Emily had already began packing without her inspection: no this would not do at all!

"I'll pack my own electronics," she immediately responded, remembering the last time with the ordeal involving her camera memory cards and Emily's Vacuumatic 3000 Mini. Now that there were BOXES in the room, a greater calling had come over Mindy. She sauntered over to the closest one, measuring tape in hand, pulling it out to measure the box's exact width, height, and length. "Emily, this box is off by a quarter centimeter, it is clearly an agent of the dark and evil forces out to get me." She exclaimed matter-of-factly, before heading over to the next vict- er, box. The next one was stunningly perfect, and satisfied, she continued her inspection of them all.

A thought occurred to her, on Box Number Four. "What uniforms are we wearing again?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 13, 2009 5:52 pm

Staring at the offending box, Emily considered her options. As they were indoors, fire was, sadly, out. Or was it? Taking out a marker she quickly wrote a message on the side of the box and death marched it to the window. Without turning her attention from the vile article, Emily answered, "The light blue ones, with the short-sleeved jacket." Opening the window, she continued, "We have received seven sets already, and there are four more on order in case something unacceptable happens to any of them."

Fortunately, the entire staff of the Lee household had excellent reflexes. So the young man tending the lawn was easily able to dodge the box that had just been thrown out the window to him at full force. While his back was turned. Examining it, he found Emily's message: Burn this at once or there will be severe consequences ~ Emily Glancing up he saw the tiny girl staring intently out the window at him.

Sighing, he took the doomed box away to dispose of it.

Closing the window with a look of quiet satisfaction, Emily asked, "Would you like to inspect them?"

Beaming proudly as the lawn-mower did the dirty work of ridding the world of such a damnable creation, Mindy relaxed just a little bit more. Saying Emily was one-sided was like saying Mindy could in her black little heart somewhere forgive all things bent and crooked, but maybe that's why they had gotten along so well with each other.

She was also immensely pleased to hear that there would be seven sets ordered. If things went well, that would mean they would have one alternating set each. The taller of the two girls nodded, "If you would, and oh," she had nearly forgotten!, "Tell old lady Hopkins that I'd like my bath ready by nine. We'll have to get up early tomorrow before we leave so I can make sure all our items are packed perfectly."

Once again she looked out the glass window, past the estate lawns into the road paving away from her familiar home. It was her intention have her outline silhouette the window frame, like so many prolific masterminds, even if the sun was a little blinding. "Tomorrow Emily. Tomorrow, I will show them the meaning of fear."
