Calintha carefully picked up the large vase sitting in the corner of her room. The water was a little murky and she was happy to see that the roots were spreading throughout the glass container. She'd looked it up in a book that you could take tree clippings and regrow them in a vat full of water. It was a little out of her area of expertise to grow a flowering tree, but Calintha figured it wouldn't die because it was a strange way of growing one.
She had a nasty habit of killing every non normal plant that she came in contact with, but so far so good- little buds were even beginning to appear on the branches! Opening her dorm door with her elbow, Cali sauntered over to the public bathrooms across the hall, trying not to slosh water onto the hallway. Once inside she set about the arduous task of taking out the plant carefully, and lifting the huge heavy vase into the sink to pour out the nasty water.

Macie had been looking for something new to stick under her microscope for the last few hours, but was coming up with nothing. She had used pretty much everything in her room, and some items she had found outside, and they had all proved to be interesting, but now she wanted to see what else there was. She lived in a dorm with a bunch of other people, right? They had to have left something cool. The black haired girl made her way down the hallway, her long pigtails bouncing up and down as she did. When she got to the public bathrooms, she saw a girl with a large plant. She was going to walk by, she had used plenty of plants before, that was nothing new. As she passed, however, she spotted the state of the water. That was it!
Macie had been using mostly solid objects, it was time she moved onto liquid! She had lots of slides laying around. Turning around, she dashed back in, just as the girl was lifting the vase and pouring it down the sink.
"No wait!" she said, skidding across the floor a little, as she rushed into the room. "Don't do that!"

Startled at the sudden noise and intrusion Cali's first instinct was to hug whatever it was closer to her. She'd been conditioned over the years not to let go of things when startled, because most delicate plants did not like to be smashed to pieces.
Not to mention her mothers standard reaction to the dirt and plant matter on her pretty white carpets that she insisted on having ALL over the house... but, that was a different matter entirely, and one that the blonde girl did not particularly want to think of.
The downside in this case, however, was that she got about half a large vase disgusting plant water ALL over herself and the floor. But mostly on herself. She turned to see who had startled her in the first place, and came eye to eye with Macie. "Macie? What... why? Whats the problem?" Clearly there had to be something she was doing wrong here, otherwise why would have her floor mate stopped her.
Cali had met Macie a few times, but they'd never particularly talked in depth before. Nothing more than the typical floor mate interaction anyway.

"Oooh...." Macie felt a little bad that the murky water had ended up on Cali...but not THAT bad, really. At least she'd stopped. She walked over sheepishly, digging into her pockets for two of the items she always carried on her, several small plastic vial and tops (she used to carry glass, but after one particularly bad incident involving a soccer ball and a trip to the ER, well...she had upgraded) and a marking pen.
She first bent over and pushed some of the water on the floor into the first vial and capped it, then dipped a second into the vase and capped that and finally (hesitating for a moment, though) she stuck one under Cali's sweater and wrung the sweater, getting most into the third vial. She quickly marked each one and pocketed them.
Macie obviously had no shame, having just caused her floormate to spill water, and then had actually invaded her personal space to take a 'sample'. Oh well, what's done was done.
"Hey, where'd you get the water you used in the vase?" she asked chipperly. She needed a control, obviously.

Cali stared at Macie, expecting an answer, or at least an apology after her ooh, but none came. The girl couldnt do anything but stare at her floor mate dumbfounded when the black haired girl took samples from the floor, her vase, and most shockingly her sweater.
"Wait...what?" Calintha set the vase (which was significantly less heavy) onto the bathroom floor, put her hands to her hips and stared at the girl across from her. "What are you doing? Why did you stop me?" There were so many questions and so little answers. She was too flustered to even register the last question that Macie had asked her.

Macie looked confused, and pulled the samples back out of her pocket and waved them a bit. "To get these..." she said, as if that was a perfectly logical answer to why she had stopped her. She had been afraid that the girl had already finished pouring out, so she had shouted. That seemed a little excessive now, but she didn't know that at the time. "I wanted to look at them, and since you spilled some, I was curious if they'd change at all from the pot."
It still didn't quite answer the question that she knew she was asking, but she had just asked why she had stopped her, and THAT she had answered. Why she wanted the samples was another reason completely, but Cali hadn't asked that, had she?
"The original source?" she asked again, a little impatiently. She was always like that with new samples. Macie was in a hurry to get back to her little lab set up in her room.

As if reading her mind, Cali asked the question that she should've asked originally. "Well why did you want those? What are you going to do with my scummy plant water?" The girl just simply did not understand. Scummy water was nothing more than a sign that the water needed to be changed. Why anyone cared enough to take samples of it was beyond her.
Finally registering the second question, Cali thought about it for a little bit. Where had she gotten the water? Moving over to the sink, the girl began to wring out her dark Barren Pines sweater into the sink, trying to get out some of the gross smelling water. "Original source? Um... I think its part tap water from the bathrooms, part of the gardening water from outside and some plant food that I have in my room?" She'd tried a concoction, not wanting to shock her branch with pure tap water.
Speaking of which, she should probably not have it out of water for so long, letting it dry out wouldn't be a good idea. Picking up the large vase once again, though the water on the outside made it slip in her fingers a little. "Maybe you could help? Since its wet its harder to handle alone."

"I wanted to look at them under my microscope," Macie said, shrugging. "I like looking at stuff, and I've moved from solid objects to liquid and your plant water looks like it'll have some fun stuff in it."
Tap water, garden water and plant food? Ugh, that was going to be a pain in the back to get all that...and who was to say that she'd even get the mixture right? Darnit, this might not work well...
She broke out of thought to hear what the girl was saying. "Oh yeah...sure," she said, grabbing the other side of the vase." Maybe she could sneak some plant food while taking this thing to Cali's room.

"Oh." Thats all that Cali could really thing of saying. With Macies help she finished pouring out the water. Now that it was empty, she could actually carry the beast without a lot of help. Picking it up, she carried it to the shower and turned on the water to fill it partway. She had some outside garden water in her room to fill it the rest of the way. "I guess thats cool though, studying stuff."
She stood there a little awkwardly while the vase was filling. "Does it look cool? And what do you need the original sample for?" She was vaguely curious to be honest, particularly because it involved her plants.

Macie watched silently as Cali filled up the large vase with water from the shower, making a mental note to take some from their later on to mix with the garden water and (hopefully) the plant food. She wasn't sure if she should be doing something else, like maybe cleaning up the last of the water that had spilled...Maybe later.
"Well, I think everything looks cool," she said, smiling. Not everyone did, they didn't see the close up stuff like she did. "Well, I mostly just look at it, so I don't really NEED an original sample, but it's fun to compare what was there to start and what a growing plant caused and if there was any change to the plant food in there. I can see if it really is working!" She was always finding new applications for her microscope, but never stayed on one subject long.

Calintha smiled and picked up the half full vase. It wasnt as awkward now that it was drier, and not as full. When she bent to pick it up however, she felt the keys in her pocket and remembered that she'd locked her door. Cali had always been a little compulsive about locking things. "Umm... do you think you could open up my door for me?" She set the vase down again, fished out her keys and grabbed the stem from the counter, inserting it back into the vase.
"I mean, if you want to anyways, I'm sure I can manage if your busy. Though, if you need the original plant food too, for your sample thingy, I've still got some in my room?" It was hard for the blonde to part with her cultivating supplies- people rarely understood the actual costs of taking care of the plants she did. But, she figured if Macie had already gone through this much trouble, Cali might as well make the rest easy on her.
