The black Frei had been wandering about Gambino for quite some time now, searching with fever blind eyes for her prey, but without much success. Where was he?! She was sure this was the way back to the Lab. Though things were different when one was moving on their own rather than in a car. She couldn't quite get her bearings, the pain in neck flaring painfully as her temperature rose higher. But the Basilisk was determined to find this Lazarus of whom had dared to lay an ill hand upon her. If she defeated him, then perhaps the pain would go away finally.
But why wasn't she there yet? From what she remembered of her drive with Ebony, it hadn't taken them this long to go from there to their home. She should have been there by now. Frustrated, Cordelia gave a loud roar of a hiss.

It had worked the first time.
It would work again.
It had been a few days since Varun slipped out with Kinsey at work. Having been exhausted when he got home and with nothing broken, his woman had assumed he'd behaved himself. A fatal flaw, but he wasn't going to correct her. He'd even been rewarded with a movie on TV. As much as he'd enjoyed it, the feeling was creeping up on him again. He was always hot and cold, as though he couldn't decide, but the temperature flux wasn't what was driving him crazy. These walls were.
He wasn't meant to be in walls!
A great anger suddenly surged over the Frei and he roared, rearing off the couch and hurling a punch into the drywall. It crumbled beneath him, not even strong enough to fend of angry humans, never mind raging Raevans. Shuddering violently, Varun looked around as his mantra repeated in his head. Get out get out get out get out get out!
Not questioning the need, the redhead zipped to the door, quickly picking the lock and escaping down the apartment hall. He was out to Gambino out large before he knew it and the Leviathan began to wander down the streets, bright yellow wings flaring as he tried to figure out where he was going. There was somewhere he wanted to go. Where?
A hiss caught his attention. Headfins flaring, he looked around wildly, green eyes settling on a smokey black...female. Eyes narrowing a little, he darted through pedestrians to get a closer look.
"Who goes?" he cried, wings shivering as he watched the black Raevan.

She'd garnered a few looks from others passing by then, though whether it was because of the hiss or because she lacked a lower half was unknown. It was best to assume it was both. Not that Cordelia cared what these lowly humans thought of her, yet she gave them a good menacing look if they got too close. All too eagerly, they gave the Basilisk a wide berth rather than walk directly past her. A good call on their part as the smokey femme was dangerously close to snapping due to her pain and frustration.
A barkish sort of order caught her attention and she slowly turned to glare this person down as well. How dare they speak to her in such a manner! Slated orbs grew wide once she laid eyes on the autumnal Raevan, the bright reds of his being triggering her hallucinations of seeing Lazarus instead. Immediately, Delia flared her wings and bore her fangs. Finally! She would have her revenge!

Varun knew what challenge looked like. A master of the wing-flare himself, he knew exactly what that posture was and while he was usually quick as a jackrabbit to answer with a challenge of his own, the Raevan throwing down the gauntlet was...female. Narrowing his eyes, he raked his gaze up and down her frame twice more just to affirm the dark Frei was actually a female, and she was. He didn't fight females. That was not what he was meant to do.
Wings and headfins out to the side, the Leviathan did not approach the confrontational female anymore than he already had, tipping his head to the side as he tried to gauge the situation. The pair had a wide zone of clearing as though they were toxic, or deadly (which they very well might be, if the tensions continued to escalate). "Name?" he finally asked the stranger. "Your name? Varun is...mine. And you?"
The words felt foreign to him, almost as though he didn't own them. Flicking his wings again, he waited for a reply, completely forgetting about the quest he'd started on.

Words? What happened to the Sigel who just barged in and took what he saw as his? Cordelia did not like this distance he was keeping from her, she wanted him closer! Perhaps it had not been smart to give him a warning, but it wasn't like the Snake girl could help it as it was just a natural thing for her to do when in the presence of possible danger, like breathing. Never did she think he'd actually heed it as per her dreams, Lazarus never did.
Slowly, she stalked her way towards him, her grey eyes never leaving him for even a moment. It was a good thing she rarely blinked to begin with or else she'd miss something crucial in times like this. As she started her steady winding about the Raevan, each rotation drawing her inevitably closer to her prey, Cordelia's lips remained absolutely silent. He wouldn't get an answer from her even if she could speak. This male wasn't worthy of her voice.

She wouldn't answer him. Not only that, but she was circling him. The aquatic Frei hissed quietly, pushing himself back and away from the odd female. He'd never met anyone silent before, and the other female Raevans he'd met had been very bubbly and open and talkative, with one exception, but even LuLu turned out to be some kind of fun. And perhaps females were weird, but Varun had decided that was kind of the fun about females, was their weirdness.
This one, however. This one was bordering threatening.
Lips curling, he began to hover steadily backwards. If he hadn't had an encounter with Rivener only a few days ago, perhaps the Leviathan would not have thought anything about Cordelia's predatory behaviors. After the assault, however, nothing was going to be left to chance. Varun did not lose battles, even those waged by someone he'd rather not fight. If he could avoid the fight this stranger appeared to be looking for, then he could declare himself the winner.
Spreading bright wings out farther, the seasonal Frei belted his own impressive roar. She was not the only mighty creature, far from it! He was descended from great things! It was one of those thing he just knew, he just accepted as a fact of like.
"Rattlewings!" he called, green eyes fixing on the femme fatale, "I was not...looking for the fight! Rattlewings, looking for things that were never there." His voice trailed off in a low hiss as he stumbled over words, sentences much longer than before, and he floated another few feet back, refusing to make the first move on the odd Frei.

That very serpentine glare narrowed further towards her kin. Had she been of sound mind then and the virus not diluting her into thinking the Leviathan was someone else, perhaps the dark girl would have been somewhat intrigued and impressed by Varun. But alas, this was not the case. His defensive attitude only proved to enrage her more.
To Delia, his words sounded light and mocking, nothing like what the Frei was actually saying. And true to the name he was tagging her with (of which she wasn't hearing obviously), the Basilisk flicked her wings furiously, allowing them to vibrate hard to produce a loud rattling sound. She would not stand for him making fun of her! She was the predator and he the prey! He needed to learn his place!
Finally losing it, the onyx colored female whipped her half-formed body harshly and bite the older male as hard as she could. Instinct told her this was right, but oddly there was a hallow, empty feeling in doing so, like something was missing. Biting provided no relief except in only having finally hurt the one who'd hurt her first.

No!
Varun realized what she was doing half a second to late, raising his arm to defend him from the assault instead of actually getting out of the way. The guard extending from wrist to elbow did its job, keeping fangs at bay, but that did not stop the pressure of the young Raevan's jaw from crushing down on already sore joints. Hissing angrily, Varun jerked his arm away harshly, clutching it close to his body to inspect for wounds.
"RATTLEWINGS!" he roared, having had quite enough of this foolishness. "Stop it! Do not fight with me!" His voice took on a low, gravelly tone and he slithered backwards, lowering himself to the ground like a coiling cobra. Varun was the best here, his adversary female or not, and he was not going to bow down and concede to anyone.
He was Varun. He was the high and mighty Leviathan, little did he know, but he certainly felt like the quest he was on was one of divinity. Or just, perhaps, a divine retribution. He had left the apartment with meaning, this much the seasonal Frei knew. He was not going to let an angry Raevan get between him and his destination. There was somewhere he was supposed to be and while he couldn't quite put his finger on it, he was sure it would come. It always came. But in the meanwhile.
"Rattlewings, stop at once, or face a battle that only...I can win!"

Oh so he was angry now too huh? Good! No more would she have of his superior attitude! Unbeknown to Cordelia, she too was of a prestigious background. She was the Basilisk, king or rather queen of all serpents and this Raevan would know it! Know she was on the top seat of the ******** food chain!
Again, the girl lashed out, utilizing not only her teeth but her sharp nails as well. The other would suffer, suffer as she had all these past weeks. Suddenly, the dark bruise of a mark on her neck seared with pain, drawing strength from her anger and lust for violence. In turn, it would serve only to cause her to act more like the giant snake she'd been born of.

"Rattlewings!" he roared again, desperately. Some last, sane corner of his mind was fighting this just as hard as the stranger was trying to fight him. He did not fight females. It was just something he did not do. Kinsey had always told him to never hit a woman, and even his woman didn't teach him, it was something he knew. Instinct. He was supposed to protect what was his, not harm it. He wasn't supposed to-
Insolence! a hiss ripped though his head, tearing through all the confusion.
Nails raked down the side of his face and Varun remained still, green eyes wide as the young male shook. She was a threat. She was causing him pain. His eyes flashed to the side as large beads of blood rolled down the side of his face, burning like a thousand suns as they raw down his jaw and dropped to the pavement. Fever raced through him, slowly eating away at the logic and insisting that the Leviathan exist solely on instinct. Instinct told him to protect her. Instinct also insisted he do not lose a fight.
Roaring and shaking his head, the autumnal Frei willed all through from his skull and reared back, not removing himself from Cordelia's strike range. Moving back into her direct space, his hands shot forward, making to grab both her hands despite the way his joints were screaming in protest. This needed to stop. He needed to make it stop! He was the bigger and the best serpent here, this much he knew, but he couldn't allow this attack to continue.
"Stop it," he hissed again, green eyes narrowed and fangs bared. "Foolish! Foolish, so foolish, Rattlewings. Band together, and we take everything. Everything will be ours. Stand apart, and you will fail."

Like crimson rivers, the blood ran without pause down the Leviathan's cheeks, but that did not deter Cordelia from her mission. That pain she'd just caused greatly paled in comparison to her own. The blackened bruise upon her neck seemed to pulse with a life of its own, bringing constant pain with every beat of her rune. And the heat! My god the heat was nearing unbearable! The Snake could endure much, but this...this was nothing like she'd ever known! But he would know it. He would bear this pain with her if she could not provide something greater as punishment for his past transgression.
Delia sneered and trashed against him, hissing and screaming like a woman possessed as he grabbed onto her wrists. How dare he touch her! He wanted to touch her?! Then she'd gladly oblige! Quick as lightning, the Basilisk twisted her hands around to grab onto his wrists. There was a short pause as a wicked, crazed grin spread across her scaled features before she gradually increased the pressure on the small joints. If he was going to be as brash as to grab onto her, then the other was going to face the consequences of those actions.

People starred as the woman screeched, but thankfully, no one had enough gall (or maybe they just had enough brains) to approach the squalling pair. Cordelia was running Varun's patience very thin. Grinding his teeth, he tossed his head and struggled with the young woman before she pulled a fast one, switching the grip so he was the one captured and squeezed. The Raevan started to shake visibly, pain shooting up his arms as his joints screamed in protest. He had been trying so hard to keep from hurting this stranger, but this was too much. He had to make the pain stop.
With a wild whoop, he lunged forward, fangs bared. He went right for her neck. It had been effective on Prajna, after all. With jaws like his, escape was difficult, especially with the Basilisk in such close proximity. He twisted his wrists to clutch wildly at what he could of the smokey Frei's arms and jerked his arms back closer, doing what he could to keep her trapped, trying to ensure his victory.
...but was her escape what he wanted? He couldn't remember anymore.

The way he cringed, the way he shook with pain, the way he tried to desperately struggle out of her iron grip, it was all so...satisfying. Cordelia's demented grin widened as she drove closer and closer to actually snapping those twigs he called arms. Her wanting to savor the moment was probably not wise as it gave Varun more time to counter her, but what about a delusional Basilisk was wise?
It was so sudden, the girl barely had time to react. She hadn't been expecting it due to his overtness to actually fighting her, but it seemed the red Raevan had had enough finally. Cordelia cried out in agony as his teeth pierced her skin and drove in deep. The images from her dream come true, flashing before her eyes like lightning. She clawed and snapped at him as much as possible, but it was hard for her to get her own teeth in him while his were still very much in her neck.
Her body temperature rose so high then that the Leviathan was sure to have felt it rising off her skin like steam. No, not steam, smoke. Like the night she fought with Rivener, Delia's body reacted violently to this swift increase in heat and she burst, leaving only swirls of black and grey behind.

She exploded.
The Leviathan shot backwards, closing his jaws and rubbing his wrists and he glanced around wildly. All that was left of where Cordelia once thrashed wildly was a swirl of smoke. The aquatic Frei wrinkled his nose and continued to back up, coughing once, twice. Rattlewings had to be around here somewhere. Things, women, Raevans, they did not just vanish up in a cloud of smoke, no matter what this female had just done.
Tipping his head back, Varun released an earth-shattering roar. Nearby humans clapped their hands over their ears and scurried, the Leviathan seeming less and less humane by the moment. Wings shooting out to the side, the Raevan flitted forward, into the crowd. Ignoring the people fleeing left and right, he roared again, whipping around as he searched for the smokey female.
Was she really gone?
