Barren Pines had the most beautiful campus in all of Destiny City. It always did. Everyone knew that, right? Zeke certainly knew it, and didn't question that fact. It was anything but barren', with lovely trees surrounding the campus, and a nice little path that was perfect to run on.

The blue-haired boy was a little sad that he wasn't on a higher floor, because then he could warm up with a simple jog down them. However, that wasn't going to stop him. He ran up the stairs to the third floor (where he noticed a few transfer students unpacking their things. He'd have to introduce himself later) before high-kneeing back down to the outside.

The November wind was chilly, but it felt good. Zeke took a drink from his water bottle before looking down at his running shoes to check that they were tied. When he was all ready, he finally broke out into a jog on that lovely path. The pine trees were gorgeous, and still green amidst the orange and red of the deciduous trees. He stared at them with a smile on his face, just enjoying the feeling of his legs pumping. He didn't have to worry about what was ahead of him or behind him, just as long as he kept on running.

Aggie had finally managed to get her hands on a map of the grounds surrounding Barren Pines - finally because she hadn't seemed to be able to get a hold of a copy until a few days ago, oddly enough. She was pretty sure that schools like this were required to have one though, for safety's sake and for the newbies. Well, no matter. Maybe they'd just been updating it, yeah? (Though she hadn't been able to find an old copy, either..)

Brushing the matter from her mind, the maroon-haired girl went back to her reading. Ah yes, there was supposed to be a path of some kind around here, wasn't there? She'd taken the way through the trees and their complementing bushes and now had a whole host of branches, dead leaves and a fair quantity of mud scattered all over her uniform (not to mention tangling in her hair!) to show for it. Bugger. It hadn't actually occurred to her that going straight for the path might be a better idea until she was already half through the first three bushes.

But at least she'd found the path, right? It was a nice path too, well-kept and obviously traversed fairly often. Aggie made a small mark on her map, before going back to staring forlornly at her ruined shoes making soggy imprints on the little path. Who on earth could've known it'd be muddy? (So alright, it had rained recently, but how was she supposed to know that?! It wasn't like she could just look out the window or som-- uh..)
At least she could take said path back again.

Mud couldn't stand in the way of a runner. If your sneakers were good enough, then you could stand Mother Nature's worst. Well, the sneakers could handle it. Zeke really hated it when flecks of mud went to his ankles and started to seep into his socks. He wasn't a clean-o-matic by any means, but he hated that grimy feeling of dirt chafing your skin and socks. So, he stopped nearby the edge of a bunch of bushes to wipe his socks off.

That's when he saw her: Bigfoot.

Wait, no, that wasn't Bigfoot. It looked like a student had decided to go exploring. On closer inspection, in fact...

"Aggie, is that you?" Zeke called while squinting his eyes. "What happened? Are you okay?"

"Zeke?" Aggie squinted through her muddy pigtails - now both firmly plastered to her face - at the approaching figure. "Oh! Oh! I'm fine, it's no problem at all, just a bit of mud." Que awkward laugh.

"Were you out running? Oh no, I didn't disturb you, did I?" Her face looked pathetically anxious as she attempted to wring some of the mud out of her formerly maroon pigtails. It didn't work. Mud just doesn't have the same consistence as water, something that Aggie miserably had to acknowledge. Her ribbons were probably ruined as well. "Because I can, umh, get off the path if you need me to?"

"Yeah, it's me," Zeke smiled at her. "No, you didn't disturb me at all. I can run whenever I need to, but are you sure you okay? Do you need some help getting back to the dorms?"

He walked up to her, not really noticing personal bubbles, and tried to help get some mud off of her shoulder. He didn't succeed, only getting mud on his hand. He tried to wipe it off on his pants, and then looked down.

"Whoops, guess I'm muddy too... oh, well. Friends who stick together get muddy together, right?"

"What were you doing out here, anyway? Playing explorer or doing something for a science project...?"

Luckily for Zeke, Aggie's concept of personal space was similarly missing - at least when it came to people she considered friends. Really, someone could've run her over with a tractor and she'd just get right back up and look at them adoringly. As it was, she giggled happily at his little mud-joke, charmed that someone'd actually call her a friend in public (nevermind that she looked like something out of a swamp and no-one was likely to know that it was her who Zeke was talking to anyway, or that they'd already been seen chatting at the lunch table before).

"Oh no, I'm fine. I've got my map, see?" She help up said map, the only thing on her that was painstakingly clean. "I've even marked the best route, here, see? I haven't tried it yet, but I was thinking I totally should! And um, it's just, uh, playing explorer, I guess." She blushed self-consciously, not that anyone was likely to see it through the mud.

"I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map..." Zeke trailed off, singing the little song from Dora the Explorer. He grinned, thinking that his reference was hysterical, and didn't realize that it was very, very vague.

"So, exploring, huh?" Zeke rubbed some of his messy hair. "Why are you doing that? If there's a map and all, then it's already been explored..."

He seemed to think about it for a moment. Then 'think' turned into 'ponder', and then he just got a blank expression on his face.

"Oh, well... hey, are you going to need help with your laundry after this or something?" In his mind, he was being nice. The fact that Dagmar was a girl didn't seem to enter his brain, nor did the fact that his offer could be taken as lecherous. Zeke just didn't do that.

Aggie didn't know who Dora the Explorer was, so she just nodded along, perfectly content to let him be whatever he wanted to be. "Well, I just figured I should verify that it all fitted according to the figures on the map, but I guess that was pretty stupid, huh?" Hindsight was a horrible thing, when it came down to it.

Blushing yet again at her friend's rather risque question, Dagmar stammered and stuttered around for a bit, slightly lost for words: "Er, that is.. I guess.. maybe? I-I'm not very good at operating the machine, b-but I'll just ask one of the other girls for help!"

It'd be better than having him picking through her clothes, in any rate. She just hoped he didn't take the rejection too badly; she hadn't pegged Zeke for a pervert, but as long as he didn't press the issue Aggie was sure she could live with whatever his predilections were. That was friends were for, right?

Now, why was Aggie getting all flustered like that? He just wanted to help her out, he couldn't imagine how difficult it would be to try and concentrate with mud scraping against your skin.

"Huh? Okay, I'm sure someone will help you out if you need it," he smiled. He was completely oblivious to her worries, I mean, she was Aggie. Aggie was a friend. She was a girl, yes, but she was a friend. If someone had run up and shouted Aggie's measurements to him, then he would've started blushing but... as it was, Aggie was just Aggie.

"Nah, doesn't seem stupid to me," Zeke shrugged. "I mean, you had fun, right? People probably think that running around is stupid, but I have fun with it."

"I don't think running is stupid." Actually, Aggie hadn't ever heard anyone say they thought so - except in gym, but she was also pretty sure that was just general laziness instead of an actual dislike for what they were doing. "I mean.. just being able to keep running, that's gotta be some feeling of freedom, right?"

She ducked her head, fairly sure that didn't make much sense. But really, she'd always admired people just being able to go on like that; sure, Aggie could run in the right circumstances, but it was a pain rather than a measure of peace. But watching others run track at the courses in school, she thought she could maybe understand a bit of what they must've felt, being able to run like that.

Mostly she just really, really wanted to get the topic off of her laundry, though.
