Tana yawned lazily, his golden eyes sharp as he kept an eye on the smallest cub of their family. Sure their mother thought the cubs didn't know what was going on...but Tana had always been rather sharp and wasn't above eavesdropping. After all when a fellow was small he had to have some tricks at his disposal.Kabu had gone to tell her dearest friends and the swamp rulers about him being here. She'd told him to go on ahead to the den, which was no problem for him. He just followed her scent the whole way. The big male with the oddly green eyes looked around at his muddy new home and gave a bit of a smile.
So this was it? It wasn't what he imagined, but it was still beautiful. Maybe he would bump into one of his new cubs. That thought sent a weird feeling through the male. He already had cubs of his own, failed them, and was now getting a second chance? It seemed Kabu was good for him in more than one way.

"Waha don't go too far!" A young voice called out as a tan and blue spotted juve padded onto the trail, the tip of his tail swishing. He was smaller than most juves, but the look in his golden eyes were sharp and intelligent. Pausing, the boy looked up at him warily, " Yes sir...can I help you?"
Unconsciously Tana took a step closer to the den. Here was a stranger, near their home when Aunt Sem and momma was gone. With a killer on the loose, one couldn't be too careful.
Looking down the trail h spotted a cub with odd colors. Vestip's head tilted to the side as he watched the golden eyes take him in and seemed worried. Giving a sheepish grin, the bigger male nodded a little bit. "I believe you can. I'm... looking for the den of Kabusha? I... I'm... her mate. Or boyfriend, if you will." He said with a soft smile.
This little cub was very intelligent from what he could tell, because he was wary. Vestip didn't know about a killer or anything, or why the pride was so tense. Kabu hadn't filled him in on that part, yet.

Tana stared...then stared somemore before he chuckled softly, his muscles relaxing a little bit. So this was the male Tahki had told them about. Honestly he had thought his insane sister was making things up again, but apprently she was right...for once. "Well you would be in luck sir!" Tana quiped with an impish smile. " For you see before you, home."
Jerking his head over his shoulder towards the large den mouth not more than 15 paces away. " You must be Vestip? I am Tana."
"Well, Tana. You seem to be a good guard! But tell me, how do you know my name?" He tilted his head to the side and watched Tana for a moment. The chuckle and the whole composure change didn't bother Vestip in the least bit. He figured it would go like that.
Licking his muzzle carefully, the bigger one shifted from paw to paw and looked around again, trying to see where the cubs were. "Would you be one of her children?"

"Nope just a figure of your imagination!" He smarted off laughing as one ear flicked. He knew he should be more polite but shesh! Polite never let a boy have fun and with all the unhappiness infecting the pride as of late, Tana took his fun where he could find it.
"My sister told me about you. I figured you were actually one of her crazy ideas like her plot against the lizards." He shrugged thin shoulder as he studied the bigger male calculating. He was handsome enough...but it was momma's happiness that counted.

A plot.... against lizards? Far be it from Ila to understand children; he doesn't really remember being one himself. He huffed a bit and blew part of his mane out of his eyes and gave a bit of a grin. "Well... I'm glad I'm at least heard of around here." He moved closer to Tana and watched what the boy would do carefully. He was beginning to understand why Kabu had needed his help; if the rest of the boys were like this, it would be very hard on her! "I guess.. I'm your step-dad or something? Tell me a bit about yourself and your siblings. Like... maybe where they are? I.... kinda want to get to know everyone."

Tana's smile turned posativly devilish, "Oh trust me...it isn't something you should be glad about. You see some of us cubs, we aren't too keen on someone butt into our mother's life...she had had enough grief and pain." His golden eyes narrowed dangerously," Some of us have put the bits and pieces of a story together. And we won't see her hurt again."
It might be funny to see the little cub glaring at the big male, but Tana's tone was icey cold and full of menace. He wanted to like the big male, he hadn't seen his mother smile like that in a long time...but he also wanted Vestip to knew where he stood, between his mother and whatever might hurt her.
"If you are good to her...we won't have a problem." It was his job to protect momma and his siblings, all eight of them.

Nothing the cub did or said had any real affect on Vestip, mainly because he'd seen it so many times before when he tried to hook up with a female who had children already. Even the adult children were protective. He just tossed his big red mane back and gave Tana a smirk. "Well... I'll be really good to her. If not, you can scratch my good eye out."
That was the first hint to anyone that he was partially blind. Hopefully it didn't affect any future cubs to bad. Poor Kim'acha probably would spit acid at him if she ever found him.

Tana laughed happily when the big male saw that he meant his threat and didn't let it trouble him. If he had, Tana would have thought him too weak to handle the rough life his mother was dealing with."I think I am gonna like you. Well like I said I am Tana, youngest of the first crew. I have 3 brothers and 4 sisters. One of the girls is more than a little crazy, so just kinda ignore her rants about the lizard army."
He kept a steady stream of chatter as he led his new 'father' back towards the den. It wouldn't be all that hard to find, what with all the noise the cubs made as they played, fought, and tattled to momma about what so and so did. He gave Ila another evil smile as they drew nearer and nearer to the deafening noise "You sure you ready for this?"

Vestip laughed and walked with Tana, just listening to the stream of chatter. He didn't mind it, honestly. Even if he did, he had to get used to it, if his lover had that may kids. Eight. Sweet gods above, eight cubs. No wonder the poor girl looked so horrible last time he saw her.
When they got there, he took a deep breath and nodded. "Ready as I'll ever be.."
And with that, he stepped into the den to be greeted by his new family.
