Who: Varun, Prajna, Namini, Kinsey, Hazeline and Xiu Where: The Nao Residence When: Mid-morning, after Kinsey's pulled a nightshift Weather: Starting to get nippy, windy and sunny
Varun wasn't quite right.
Kinsey wasn't entirely sure what was wrong with the Raevan, but in the days following the Halloween party (and Rivener's attack, though she tried not to think about that), the Leviathan complained of sore joints. Nothing she suggested helped the redhead and eventually his bellyaching stopped, though the young woman was fairly certain the pain hadn't ceased. Varun didn't seem quite so eager to show off these days of late, though Kinsey wasn't convinced that wasn't just the pain and had something to do with a certain bruised ego.
He seemed paler than usual, though, and just when she thought maybe, maybe the seasonal Frei might be coming back around, maybe maturing a little, he swung harder than she thought. She had to stop bringing him to work; he wouldn't let go of her. Not only that, but he actually started snarling at any of the officers who came near. The boy getting in a fist fight only a week ago, Kinsey wasn't willing to risk his temper anymore. He had to stay home. It wasn't quite so bad leaving him home at night, Varun usually slept. Usually.
She'd gotten home sometime before dawn and immediately crashed on the couch, Ford curled up on top of her. The young woman woke up to the sound of yelping and running water. How odd, Kinsey thought, she didn't leave the water run-
"Varun! VARUN WHAT ARE YOU DOING!"
Kinsey raced down the hall, tripping over a stray boot as she bolted for the bathroom. The sight was positively disturbing; the redhead had the ugliest snarl she'd ever seen. His eyes were narrowed and if she didn't know better, she'd say his eyes looked a touch serpentine as the youth hissed, wings rattling as Varun held her dog beneath the water. The German Shephard was thrashing wildly, but he was slowly starting to fade.
Before she could think the better of it, Kinsey lunged forward and grabbed Varun by the ponytail, hauling him backwards. The Leviathan rumbled, the noise shaking through his entire frame as he let go of his victim, fingers curling into fists as he rounded on his newest victim. It was only through months and months of endless training that the woman had to good sense to duck, eyes widening as his fist crunched through the plaster.
Ford had began to growl, having made his way between mistress and the attacker. Kinsey reached down and grabbed the large dog by the collar, hauling him off with a quick command as she turned to face Varun. The Frei was shaking, fixing her with a dark look before he turned his attention back to the original problem: Ford, he who rivaled Varun as Alpha Male and Lord of the Sea. (Or something like that.)
"Varun!" Green eyes blinked and his attention snapped back to his guardian. "Go to your room! We'll talk about this in a minute." When the Raevan open his mouth to protest, Kinsey put a hand on her hip and pointed. "Go, Varun, or so help me God, I will-"
But that seemed to do the trick and the Raevan pushed by her, pausing to growl at Ford on his way out. The moment she heard his door click, Kinsey raced down the hall and threw a drawer open, pulling a card from the stack. Quickly dialing the number, she waited as the phone rang. As soon as someone picked up, she gasped, "Hey, uh, is this David Nao? It's Kinsey Finch, Varun's...guardian."

David cursed as he hurried to throw his black work slacks on and then a grey V-neck sweater. It had been another night, distorted by Prajna's endless screams and crying, but the morning could not be the same as the others: David could not be late for work again. "Probation" hung like a judgmental axe above his head. He'd never even been close to that fate, but now he was just twenty minutes away from it. His incomplete nights weren't getting any better either, as he slowly started to shun potential customers away at night, with his edginess. Women would report on how cold or half hearted, tired or lazy, he had become and the elderly woman running the host club was not going to have any more of his "nonsense."
"You've got a pretty face David, but it's not pretty enough to lose money over," she had told him just the other night. For a moment, the eldest Nao son ran his hands through his hair, spitting curse after curse out into the open air, but then he remembered his ********! Work, ********, DAMMIT!" he growled as he shoved his socks on and then raced for the door. He came back only to pick up the cell phone that was lying on his bed. Which suddenly began to ring. Once, twice, it rang as David slipped into his shoes, called out a rushed goodbye to his sister and then left the apartment.
"Hello?" came the agitated voice as the man slipped into his car and revved the engine. He could multitask right? Backing out, he stopped for a moment as the voice on the other end clarified who it was, "Kinsey? ...What's up?"
His dark blue eyes flickered back to his apartment, thinking back on his own Frei. He wondered if someone else was having as much trouble with their Raevan as they were.

Namini awoke abruptly, to the sound of the front door closing. What time was it? Her blue eyes fluttered in protest against the encroaching sunlight but soon found themselves adjusting nicely to their brightened surroundings. The brunette turned to her clock. Oh. She had missed school again. It was a good thing she was ahead in her classes and that her teachers had been kindly emailing her the assignments. But she couldn't keep this routine up for long...
Namini shook her curls about before sliding out of the bed. She entered the living room slowly, glancing about, trying to see if anything had changed. Nothing. Prajna had not moved from its fetal position from the night before. She concentrated on the sounds. There was no sobbing either, but then again, one could only cry for so long. She approached the gloomy Frei and placed a kiss in its hair. Prajna flinched at the touch and Namini expected an outburst for her contact but as the seconds ticked by, nothing. The brunette let out a small sigh and wandered around the room until she found a flashlight. Namini turned it on and saw how the light was restrained to the small screen in the front. She dumped out the batteries and placed in new ones, before leaving the flashlight by her Frei and returning back to her room.
What could she do? What should she do?
The teen picked up her cell phone and began searching the phonebook, wondering if some magical answer would appear, some kind of guidance would emerge from her digital list of contacts..David. Hazeline. Josh (she cringed). Lab 305. School office. By the end, she restarted the list again. David was at work. The Lab, she had called the night previous, and had received no pick up. Why call the school? She stopped on a vaguely familiar name: Hazeline Lee. Now who had that been?
The memories trickled in slowly but surely. Hazeline was Xiu's guardian. Prajna had liked Xiu, hadn't it? Xiu seemed like a good kid. Hazeline seemed like a nice lady herself.
Namini hit call and crossed her fingers..

Xiu had been keeping to his room again and Hazeline was worried. Was there something wrong with her raevan? The last time this had happened, Xiu had not only developed fangs but the taste for blood. Hazeline could only hope that the incident was not repeating itself.
Taking a deep breath, the young woman stepped up to her frei’s door and gave it a couple of soft raps; the feeling of déjà vu coming strongly to mind. There was a slight movement from within the room before the door clicked and the white frei appeared. “What’s…the matter, Hazeline?” asked the frei politely although there was a faint trace of impatience behind the polite enquiry. Hazeline bit her lip. This was not going to go well.
“Xiu, let me see your teeth, please,”
The white frei seemed stunned at her request and the stunned expression slowly turned into a frown as frei caught onto her suspicion. Clearly displeased, the white frei withdrew his lips only slightly to allow the guardian a brief glance. There were no fangs present.
“What is the meaning of this, Hazeline?” asked Xiu looking visibly offended. “Why?”
“Well…you were keeping to your room rather a lot lately…,” mumbled Hazeline as she took a step back from her frei. “I was worried,”
“Your concern is admirable, Hazeline but; if I may say so, rather misplaced,” said Xiu with a frown. “Can’t a raevan be entitled to some time alone?”
“Of course you can but you have not been…yourself, Xiu,”
The frei seemed to consider this before giving a nonchalant shrug. “I guess the after effect of Halloween has yet to fully wear off. Now, is there anything else that you’d like to discuss?” asked Xiu flatly.
“I guess not…,”admitted Hazeline before her phone began to ring. Relieved, the guardian flipped her cell phone open and was surprised to see Namini’s number popping up. Namini was…
“Hmmm…a Namini,” said Hazeline looking at Xiu. “Does that ring a bell?”
“Prajna’s guardian,” replied Xiu as he gave a glance at the beeping phone. “Aren’t you going to answer it, Hazeline?”
“Oh, yes, okay,” said Hazeline as she pressed the ‘receive’ button. Five minutes later, the guardian found herself and her charge in their car and heading towards the Nao’s residence. “I hope Prajna is alright,” said Hazeline. “She sounds worried,”
“Well, Prajna is sick,” said Xiu exasperated. Honestly, why was his guardian stating the obvious? Blue eyes turned to the road.

"Hi! Hey, um, look, I'm totally sorry to be bothering you," Kinsey rambled into the phone, running a hand through her hair nervously. "But like, uh...see, I'm not really friendly on a lot of terms with a lot of Raevan owners. Varun usually goes off and finds them on his own and ANYWAYS." The young woman remembered to breath and also remembered this was why she needed coffee in the morning: no coffee lead to forgetting kind of important things. Like breathing. "Anyways, I, uh...Varun's acting really weird. And you're kind of the only person that kind of understands what I mean? I mean, more weird than usual. He tried to kill my dog this morning. He's never liked the dog, but ever since Halloween he's been acting really strange."
Kinsey paused, considering this might need more of an explanation. As much as she wanted to spare her redhead's pride, he just sounded doggone mad if she didn't include the last bit. "...Rivener attacked him at the Halloween party and he's just...not right. Maybe it's a pride thing? I don't know!" Collecting her thoughts, she fidgeted again. "Yeah, uh, I'm really sorry to bother you, I just...don't know what to do with him."
Meanwhile, the Raevan had already gotten bored with his room, having slipped out when the sounds of his woman's distress carried down the hall. Fins pricked forward with his obvious attention, he rumbled, a long, low sound rumbling through the woods. Moving forward tentatively, he circled Kinsey and put a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. He was here. All was well.
Flashing Varun a confused scowl, Kinsey motioned to the phone. The Raevan was undeterred, slowly working his hand towards the phone. She did not need silly plastic things. She had Varun! Rolling her eyes, she brushed the Leviathan's hand off and pointed to the sink full of dishes. Pressing the phone to her shoulder breifly to muffle her voice, she tried to shoo the Raevan off. "Varun, if you want to be helpful, go clean last night's dishes. And if you get anywhere near Ford, so help me, I will-"
"Do not clean. Not for Varun, for Kinsey." the Raevan scoffed, but floated towards the sink regardless, as though he'd found it terribly fascinating.
Kinsey could barely keep her mouth closed and the only thing that kept the redheaded Frei from the wrath of the gods above was the fact that David was still on the other line. And he was luckier still that Kinsey managed to listen to her phone well enough to realize David had invited her over. After a quick scramble for pen and paper, she scribbled down his address and bade her friend farewell. Maybe a trip outside would make her miserable little charge a little less stir crazy. Maybe that was all it was.
Now all she had to do was get the snarly little critter out the door. "Varun," she called, pocketing her cell phone, "as soon as you're done with the dishes, we're going to do see-" What was that noise? Pausing mid-sentence, the young woman peered around the small half-wall separating the tiny kitchen from the living space to spy Varun playing in the sink with the dishes. "Varun, what are you-"
CRASH!
The Leviathan cackled happily and Kinsey skittered over, eyes widening when she realized what Varun had done. Creating a forceful whirlpool in the tiny sink, he'd slammed to cups together. Wait. Wait. Whirlpool?
"When the hell did you learn to do that?" she demanded, reaching over to pull the young Raevan's hands out of the water, despite the fact the cool water felt good on his raging joints. As soon as he allowed her to remove him, the spiral ceased and what remained of Kinsey's dishware quickly settled to the bottom. "You sank all of my cups, Varun," she deadpanned.
The Leviathan preened as though the simple observation was a compliment of the highest order. "Yes," he agreed, nodding sagely. "Cups in Varun's water. Not for cups. For Varun. Cups must go." He fixed his woman with a sharp look and motioned with his hand, cringing ever so slightly. Kinsey says we are going to see whatnow?"
Kinsey blinked. "We're going to see Prajna. Go put your coat on."
She didn't need to tell him twice; the prospect of seeing his favorite redhead had Varun tugging his black military-style jacket over his wings, hissing wildly when a fin started to bend the wrong way. Kinsey quickly came to the rescue and, after pulling on her own coat, lead the cranky Frei out the door. The bus ride, though it was short, seemed to carry on forever. Varun hissed at every male who came within ten feet and anyone who tried to ignore him got a flare of the fins (which, as you can imagine, didn't work so well with a jacket on).
Too many promises of 'just a few more minutes' later, the frazzled pair arrived at their stop and it took every ounce of Kinsey's strength to haul her snarling redhead off the bus, trying her best to ignore any male they passed. Please don't let this be a bad idea.

Namini felt a soft grin pulling at the sides of her mouth as she closed her cell phone. Hazeline's voice had sounded so reassuring. The teen could only hope that one day she would turn out a pleasant of a woman as she. Getting up from her bed, Namini headed for her closet, to pick out a casual but appropriate outfit to wear for her arriving guests. That reminded her.. As she turned to walk towards the living room to tell Prajna to prepare itself for a visit from their friends, a cutesy jingle reached her ears, causing her to stop and turn around slowly. She walked back over to her phone and read the name: David.
"Hello?" she answered and the reply came scrambled and rushed. Oh. David must have been at work or running to work.
"Namini, guests are coming. Kinsey. Varun. Thought Prajna might like a visit from someone it ********. MOVE IT YOU LITTLE--They'll be there soon. Sorry for the short notice--- Crap!--Tell me how it goes tonight at dinner. -click!-"
Namini sat upon her bed, stunned. What was that? A Kinsey? A..A VARUN!?! The brunette sprung to her feet and darted into the living room. Prajna did not react. Her face paled. Wasn't Varun one of the ones who had hurt Prajna before? David! What're you thinking?! Namini screamed internally but made sure to keep her mouth clamped tight. That meant..Xiu. Varun. Hazeline. Kinsey. They would all be here. Momentarily. The teen did not hesitate.
"Prajna. I..I need you to get up and get ready" she stammered, her eyes fluttering about the apartment. Good thing she had kept it somewhat tidy during her extended leave from school. Prajna flinched at the nervousness in her voice but kept generally still. Namini placed a bit more urgency in her voice as she continued, "Our friends are coming to visit. They're worried about you..Prajna..Xiu and..Varun are coming?"
The redhead raised its head slowly from the mountain of pillows, like a child awakening from a nap, before turning its face towards its guardian. Namini was taken aback, slightly, to see how weak it looked. There was a slight blush on its cheeks, as if feverish, but its eyes looked so..tired. Rimmed in a tear-caused redness that contrasted heavily with its icy blue.
"I'm sorry for the short notice Prajna. I..Would you like me to help you freshen up?" Namini asked slowly, but the Frei was already shaking its head before she had finished. The brunette turned to leave and was relieved to hear, from a distance, the shuffling of blankets. Maybe...maybe this would turn out well?
Once in her room, the teen did not put the same amount of effort and concentration into her choice of attire as she had before. Instead, she grabbed the cleanest pair of jeans she could find along with the closest T-shirt and crammed herself into them with lightning speed. Then she rushed towards her bathroom, washed her face, brushed her teeth and brushed her hair. As she pulled the plastic bristles through her curly locks, the teen walked out into the living room. The bed was still there, in shambles, but luckily, Prajna was not. Instead, in the distance, Namini heard running water, the shower from David's bathroom. A smile crept onto her features. Even her lovely little Star, no matter how depressed, still retained an ounce of pride. Namini went to organizing the blankets and pillows when she heard a knock on the door. She froze.
The shower continued to run, though, inside, unknown to Namini, Prajna was already done bathing. It was simply floating in front of the mirror, letting the steam cling to its hair and wings and skin. Even the steam felt cool to the Frei's skin. Nothing was as humid and disgusting as this feeling in its chest. The knock was barely heard but immediately recognized. Prajna shut the water off only when it heard Namini's feet creak across the apartment floor.
The brunette answered the door tentatively, fearful of the unknown Kinsey and charge Varun but suddenly worried about friends Hazeline and Xiu. What if..Xiu and Varun did not like one another? Or worse, what if their guardians did not like one another??
"H-hello?" Namini mewed, as the door creaked open.
Prajna slipped into a baggy but clean T-shirt, cut low in the back to make room for its wings. And then, it waited behind David's door to hear who it was.

Xiu watched as his guardian gave the door a soft knock; frowning a little. Hazeline’s knock was too soft and…it lacked confidence. Crossing his arms, Xiu was just about to suggest that perhaps Hazeline should knock on the door again when the door creaked open just a little. Both the guardian and her frei found themselves looking into the face of a shy young brunette.
“Namini?” Hazeline enquired stepping up to the door with what she hoped was a reassuring smile. “Xiu and I….we got here as soon as we could,”
“How is Prajna?” asked Xiu, cutting straight to the point. “You’ve mentioned that Prajna was feeling under the weather. “May we see …her errr…him?”

Kinsey and Varun arrived just in time to see another Raevan and their guardian slip into the Nao's apartment. While Kinsey was simply relieved they had the right place, Varun was bristling, lips curling back into a fierce snarl as he watched the white Raevan vanish into the same place his woman was taking him. Twitching his wings rapidly, the Leviathan burst forward towards the door.
"Varun! No!"
Fearing her charge might rush the door or something, Kinsey lunged after him, barely managing to wrap her fingers around his wrist before the seasonal Frei got away. Varun roared sharply, wheeling around with his free hand closed in a fist. It was only through months of training that Kinsey didn't flinch; it was only through luck that Varun remembered himself in time to avoid hitting his guardian. He deflated all at once, wings quivering at half-mast as he watched his woman, not daring pull his wrist away no matter how much the grip hurt already aching joints.
Letting out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding, Kinsey adjusted her grip and reached out to pat the Leviathan gently, slightly bewildered by the pronounced change in attitude over the past few minutes.
"Relax, Vars. You don't need to be so jumpy," she said quietly, patting his hand. "We're just going to see your friend, okay?" She wanted to add 'and you can be happy again', but she was fairly certain bringing up the fact that his behavioral changes started when Rivener mopped the floor with him would only sour the Raevan's mood further.
Varun shivered once and nodded. "Yes. Go see Prajna now." He nodded towards the door. "Prajna good, this time 'round. Good to Varun, good to Prajna." He shrugged, green eyes not leaving his goal as he stared longingly.
Glad that the Raevan had some interest in seeing a friend (and noticing his English was beginning to be less broken), Kinsey smiled and gave his hand a final pat. "Yes. Let's go see Prajna. I'm sure you two can think of something fun to do."
With her charge finally settled, Kinsey stepped forward and knocked on the door.

Namini's blue eyes hid nothing from Hazeline and Xiu. Almost glowing with relief and appreciation, the brunette nodded several times and widened the entrance, "But of course. And..thank you. --Prajna! We have visitors."
She half turned as they entered her humble abode, a smile creeping onto her features. The redhead hesitated from behind the door, listening carefully to Hazeline's footsteps. Xiu was with her, yes? At that moment, the Frei cursed how their species were born without feet; It wanted to know exactly how far away Xiu was. It didn't want to be on display more than it had to be. Its wings were still in shambles from that attack by Lulu, the healing process taking longer than was usual. And because of the feverish blush that refused to leave its features now, some of the scratches it had obtained from previous tiffs were a bit more noticeable now. Prajna ruffled its feathers to shake some water out and pushed its body closer to the door's cool surface.
"Xiu?" came the barely audible whisper. How close was he?..
Namini had just shut the door and was about to thank Hazeline once again for coming when she heard a soft rapping on the door. Oh. Kinsey..and Varun. Namini felt like she was choking, but she forced a small, nervous chuckle, "Excuse me, Hazeline, Xiu. My..brother didn't know about our plans so he sent his friends over to ..keep Prajna company. I..I hope you don't mind."
She prayed there would be no more fighting. She opened the door and felt her heart stop. There stood a dark skinned woman, no girl the teen decided, wary of this tough physique of hers, and..a magnificent but intimidating red-haired Frei. She felt its teal eyes burrowing into her flesh and the hair on her arms raised slightly. What a powerful feeling he was emitting! The teen returned to the situation at hand and tried to keep the smile on her face, "H-hi. Y-y-you must b-b-be-be Kinsey? and VaROON?"
Namini flustered as the hiccup in the Frei's name escaped her lips. What a terrible introduction!!

The relieved look of the young girl worried Hazeline just a little. Just how sick was Namini’s raevan anyway? From the looks of the young girl’s face, it seemed pretty bad. Stepping in gingerly, the young lady was surprised to hear the door being knocked only moments after it was closed. Turning, Hazeline gave Kinsey a polite nod before looking at the other’s raevan in awe. Varun was certainly one of the more impressive raevans that Hazeline had seen and the guardian found herself nodding in Kinsey’s and Varun’s direction. “Pleased to meet you, Kinsy, Varun. I’m Hazeline” said Hazeline politely.
Xiu meanwhile had focused his attention to the small voice that was coming from behind the door. “Prajna?” enquired Xiu as he floated closer to the source of the voice. Just what was the frei doing hiding behind those doors?

Varun wrinkled his nose as Namini butchered his name (which she didn't actually, but he was a sensitive boy), but Kinsey squeezed his hand and effectively quashed whatever correction the Raevan was about to make. Stepping in front of the fiery redhead as though it might keep the Leviathan from doing anything regrettable, she offered a smile to the girl, David's sister and brushed a loose strand of dark violet hair behind an ear. "Yes, I'm Kinsey and this is Varun," she replied, nodding to the sulky Frei in question. "We-"
"Come to see Prajna," Varun interjected, head held high as he tried to glance around the woman in the doorway to catch a glimpse of his friend. Distracted by another female he didn't recognize, he tipped his head and blinked. "Hello, Hazeline," he replied, barely remembering his manners. He dipped his head, narrowly avoiding the need to be nudged again, and skirted around Namini with no further ado, excusing himself quietly as he looked around for his friend.
Spotting Xiu, the Leviathan flared his wings and fins, huffing softly as he approached him. If memory served him correctly, their last interaction did not go well, and over a shared object of interest, as well. "Xiu," he rumbled, voice more a low thunder than an actual voice, "you are here for Prajna, too?"
Kinsey watched Varun silently, praying the beast didn't cause any more trouble. Shaking herself back to reality, she offered Hazeline a little wave. "Hi," she murmured, feeling more and more sheepish as time ticked on. "I hope I'm not intruding, or anything? I don't think David knew you already had company..." she tried to explain, dark skin coloring a little as she tried to talk herself out of a hole.

As Namini and Varun did an awkward little dance, the redhead pushing through the entrance on the left side while the brunette sashayed to the right, the teen found herself somewhat..drawn to the Frei's straightforward nature. He was already so similar to her own charge, worrying in a way she found..cute. Namini smiled at the thought before gesturing Kinsey inside. As she closed the door behind her newfound companion, the curly haired girl shook her head, "It's alright. David called me and gave me the heads up. I hope you don't mind..Hazeline? ..Though I find it nice to have some other "mothers" to talk to y'know? Would anyone like some tea?"
Namini hustled over to the small kitchen where she began a search for her various teas and an appropriate pot and cup set to serve it in, "Pomegranate vanilla rooibos, green tea, or oorrr cranberry blood orange? I can make some coffee if you guys would prefer that too."
Namini's natural cheeriness seemed to be quickly returning to her, a profound relief making its way through her features. Finally, others who would understand what she was going through! Or at least..listen. Her eyes flickered over to the Raevan duo floating in front of David's door and she hesitated to speak, choked on Prajna's name. It would come out to face its friends, right? This was a good idea...right? Namini prayed reassurance could be found within this gathering of friends.
Prajna listened intently to the words being exchanged right beyond the inches of wood separating Xiu from itself. Xiu's voice was so near, so calm. So..Xiu. Suddenly there was a Kinsey voice. Namini was giggling again about whatever nonsense. And then..Varun. Varun's voice. He was here too! Yes, finally, at last! Someone strong! Someone-- Its friends were here! In a burst of excitement, Prajna violently tore the door open and threw itself around the closest individual, its eyes already spilling over with new tears. The androgynous Frei immediately recognized the scent of the sea, the softness of the other's long long hair: Varun. Prajna felt its hot cheeks slowly drown in cool tears, the emotions taking over again before it quietly released Varun from its embrace.
The tears were clear streams now, though a smile was breaking through the Frei's genderless features. It was Xiu who received that silent gift. Prajna grinned ear to ear as it turned to the paler of the two friends and giggled, staying in front of Varun, but extending a hand so that it caressed Xiu's cheek tenderly, seemingly trying to draw him into the hug, "Xiu. Varun. Prajna."
There was a pause, a sigh and a laugh before the redhead continued, "Prajna is..so happy."

“Oh…umm…hi,” stammered Hazeline in reply to both Varun and Kinsey as she watched the red headed frei making his way to where Xiu and Prajna were. Varun was definitely an impressive raevan. With such vibrant colours combined with a slightly haughty and imposing attitude, Hazeline was in awe of the frei. The guardian found her gaze following the leviathan raevan to where her charge was and…in contrast to such fierce colourations, Xiu looked…pale.
The impressive display of fins did not help in making the situation for her frei any better…
“Varun is certainly…awe inspiring,” said Hazeline for want of a conversation between the owners. “And I certainly…don’t consider myself as a mother,” said Hazeline with a sheepish laugh. “Xiu’s not behaving like any child I know…,”
Not that I know many said Hazeline inwardly to herself.
At the mention of tea, the guardian smiled. “I’d love tea if you have some?” Then looking at Kinsey, Hazeline gave a smile. “Shall we help our host raid her kitchen then? I…think it’s…safe?” ventured Hazeline as she turned to watch the raevans.
Xiu meanwhile had turned to face Varun. “Yes, I am here to see Prajna,” replied the white frei testily. He did not know why but…Varun’s overwhelming nature was…starting to irk the white frei. So much so that Xiu would have given the other a challenging growl if not for the fact that Prajna had, at that instant, released itself from its hiding place behind the door and launched itself at Varun. There was a brief moment of awkwardness for the white frei as Prajna hugged Varun. Then, as though not wanting to leave Xiu out, Prajna had extended its hand to white white frei; caressing Xiu’s face gently with its hand. The white frei relaxed slightly.
“Prajna…I heard that…you were unwell?” ventured the white frei as he looking enquiringly at his friend.

"Oh, dear, don't let him hear you say that," Kinsey murmured as she stepped in. "Varun's ego is so big, I'm surprised he hasn't formed his own center of gravity yet," she added, chuckling a little as she walked over to join Hazeline. Glancing back over at their hostess, she shrugged awkwardly. "I'm actually a dedicated coffee drinker, but if it's a hassle, don't worry about it." She could just swing by the coffee shop on her way home; they were well acquainted with herself and the fiery-headed wild child she always had attached to one side.
Grinning, she glanced back at Hazeline. "I think that sounds like a grand idea." Following her gaze, she nodded. "Prajna looks pretty happy to see them. That will soothe Varun's bruised ego, if nothing else. I tell you, that boy thinks himself King of the very Universe, or something." Rolling her eyes and shaking her head, she ventured into the kitchen to see if Namini needed any assistance.
Meanwhile, Varun was baring sharp teeth and extending his wings to their fullest. He did not appreciate the tone Xiu was taking with him, not in the least. He was about to tell the pale Frei exactly how he felt about it, even had his mouth open to start a preach, and suddenly, Prajna had wrapped itself around his torso. Grunting in surprise, the Leviathan floated a few feet back and glanced down at the Frei wrapped around his chest.
"Prajna?" he inquired, tipping his head to one side as he reached forward to gingerly stroke red hair. "Are you-?" Whatever he was going to ask died in his throat as the flame reached forward and stroked Xiu's face and laughed quietly. Its words were lost on the seasonal Raevan, who was stiffening mightily as he glowered at Xiu with nothing short of sheer envy.
In a sudden flurry of movement, he collected Prajna into his arms and held his friend against his chest, giving Xiu one of the fiercest looks in his arsenal. A monstrosity in his past life, Varun was able to muster a mighty glare when he truly felt threatened. Trying his hardest to commit murder with his eyes, he continued to keep Prajna close. "Prajna is fine now. I am here."
Varun was all Prajna really needed, right?
Looking down at the friend in question, Varun reached to pet its hair again. "Varun will make everything fine now. Everything." Because that's what Varuns did best!

Namini was pleased to see how easy conversation had been sparked, between both human and Raevan parties and better yet, how natural it all felt. Nothing seemed forced or overly polite or tense. Just as simple and natural as breathing. In and out, in and out. The brunette nodded in agreed with Hazeline's comment, her eyes flickering over to Varun, smiling as she caught Prajna chatting happily about its friends, "Ego or not, there's no doubt about it. Varun is very beautiful, vivid. Xiu is lovely as well, though it's like comparing a wedding dress to a prom dress. Both are elegant and beautiful, just in different ways... Do either of you have to help in your Freis' hair? Xiu and Varun have such long hair compared to Prajna."
Namini then turned to Kinsey, pulling out a small bag of coffee beans, "And don't worry. It's not trouble at all. Would you guys also like some cookies or muffins? We could make some up real fast."
Namini was absolutely beaming with happiness.
Prajna, on the other hand, felt its serving of bliss get ripped out of its hands. As it opened its mouth to answer Xiu's question, the Star felt its half-formed body being rocked about until it was finally stabilized in what felt like a steel cage, bars made up of Varun's smooth but well-defined arms. The redhead found its cheeks burning at the Levianthan's touch, unsure of what to feel about this sweet caressing. It was pleasant but only for a moment. Who else used to do this to Prajna?
"Prajna is fine now, yes. Varun is here. But..Xiu too! Xiu too is here. Prajna is here with Xiu too, Varun too!" came the sudden outcry as Prajna attempted to wiggle out of the younger Frei's hold. It did not want to offend its friend, but ..to be held like this, to be caressed and spoken to so tenderly was quickly throwing Prajna into a terrified fit. Prajna began to sob quietly as it pushed weakly against Varun's chest, torn between absolute fear and absolute bliss. "Varun, let Prajna go. Want to hug Xiu!" the redhead choked between tears.
Were things becoming blurry because of the tears or something else? Why was the heavenly scent of the sea turning into a darker musk, something..something that reminded Prajna of..Rivener?
Prajna extended its hands towards Xiu once more, hoping that just through touch, some kind of reassurance could be stabilized. This was Varun right? Varun not..Rivener right?!

Hazeline laughed at the comment about Varun generating his own center of gravity. Images of tiny planets and stars orbiting the red headed frei as he floated smugly came into Hazeline’s mind.
“Perhaps it is a passing phase?” suggested Hazeline as followed Kinsey and Namini into the kitchen. “I mean…there’s that teenage years that all humans have to go through…,”
At Namini’s statement and question, Hazeline smiled. “How do I say this…Xiu’s rather independent I guess. After learning how to properly wash, comb and braid his hair that raevan has taken to handling it by himself. Odd little fellow though. He gets flustered so easily if anyone catches him undressed. And him being a guy and all,” chuckled Hazeline with a shake of her head. “Although I guess that is a good thing,”
“And I’m fine with either,” said Hazeline in response to Namini’s question about cookies and muffins.
Xiu smiled gently at the happiness that shone through from Prajna’s genderless features but that smile quickly turned to one of astonishment as Prajna was forcefully pulled away from him and into Varun’s possessive arms.
“Varun! What is the meaning of this?!” demanded the white frei rounding up on the leviathan raevan; blue eyes hardening to match the other’s look of contempt. At Prajna’s plaintive cry, the white frei growled softly, the sort of low warning growl that could be associated with an angry tiger just before it attacks.
“Prajna does not like it,” said Xiu as he glared at Varun. “Let Prajna go,”
