I really have nothing of importance to say about that episode. It was clearly filler, with a small dose of plot advancement (which could've been done in 2 minutes during a better episode).
"Lois skipped town."
aka - Erica is only signed on for a certain amount of episodes, and they want to use her later on.

The episode was full of retcons and excuses. Lois just up and left? Yeah okay. Very clever writing staff.
So the orb was not supposed to weaken the traveler. The stones of power were made twenty years ago instead of hundreds of years ago as was lead to believe in season 4. Zod had a son? What happened to the whole doomsday thing? Then again, that could have happened after the explosion, but still. Smallville never thinks about the past.
