Great, why didn't I read this BEFORE taking up the class? Ary thought, scowling at the information she had been given about a spawn by the name of Aludra. Apparently he had the ability to control fire AND was part greed. At least his prominent DNA parent wasn't that thieving, conniving sin that a certain brat had. She might end up beating him a little harder than allowed.

Ah, well, that was life. Have to deal with one's mistakes as there is no way to change that. Glancing around at the open cabinetry, the female could only hope he didn't light any of her stuff on fire. All the practice weapons were made of weighted wood so they wouldn't cause much more than a broken bone or a nice-sized bruise. She wasn't going to have people killed in her class, as Mr All-powerful grumpy-butt was fairly intimidating. There wasn't any way she could take him on unless she caught him by surprise and in a drugged state.

"Geeze, what takes them so damned long to get here?" Arytiss growled, dropping the folder onto the small-ish desk. The floor was clear of all debris and objects of any kind so no one would trip and fall. That would be bad... right?

Aludra was extremely pleased with the fact that he'd managed to keep Noah from signing him up for anymore stupid spirituality classes. After... everything that the last one had caused for him, he really didn't need another one lest he bleed to death.

As such, melee classes. Now, see, he could look forward to something like that, assuming that he would be able to let out his anger at least a bit. But then there was the problem of his humility constantly trying to push it back down and he honestly wondered if he was going to collapse in the middle of it, winning or not, and end up vomiting blood all over the floor. He shivered at the thought. God, that was gross...

Finally, he walked through the door for his tri-coloured eyes to fall upon a teacher who, honestly, looked none-too-happy, assuredly from his lateness; it wasn't his fault that Noah barely knew how to drive after renewing his stupid license. Stupid Noah... "Hi. Sorry he's late. Ah... guardian doesn't know how to drive."

Ary's cold, ice-blue eyes snapped to Aludra, appraising him closely. Yup, smelled like Cody with some other angelic scent and something else... Whatever, her job wasn't to guess at all his problems and such.

"Right, at least you're here. Moving on, you can call me Ary and since I assume you're Aludra I only have one thing to ask; what kind of fighting style do you want to do?" she asked, motioning vaguely to the open cabinets. "Hand to hand is a favorite of mine, and swordplay. Everything is wooden until later classes since I'm not allowed to get anyone killed, accidental or otherwise," she added in a bored tone. Straightening and in one graceful move, turned and shoved her desk against the wall, chair and all.

"Chose a style and we'll begin. You WILL receive bruised and a very possibly a broken bone if you merely flail about. I cannot heal said bone or bones if they are broken so lets try and keep a focused mind here," Arytiss added, rolling her eyes a bit. She could only hope that the spawn kept his cool for a little while. The female didn't exactly want to become charcoal.

Aludra's eyes followed the motions, tail flicking back and forth as he looked the different weapons over before looking back toward Ary at the mere mention of swordplay, and had he animal ears they would have perked instantly. Knight that he used to play as a child, Lirona being his princess [then and now, as a matter of fact, though he'd been trying to keep the former more of a secret], he did have a great interest in actually learning how to properly handle a sword.

"Understands," he stated, nodding a few times at the possibility of being hurt. Unfortunately, she was probably unaware of how accustomed he'd become to pain, and the fact that his humility would easily slip over it, convincing him without even raising a finger that, somehow, he deserved it. "Would like to learn swordplay if it isn't much trouble," he commented, going to the cabinet and looking over the weapons before choosing a wooden sword that he guessed wasn't too big or too small for his size, turning to his teacher before giving a slightly worried look.

"You aren't going to just attack him without really... teaching a bit, are you? Is what was done to his sister, so just wants to make sure beforehand."

Ary grinned wickedly. Ah, he chose her favorite and most knowledgeable of the styles. "Hm? Seriously? Psh, that's not how you learn. b*****d probably had no idea what he was-aha!-doing." The female grabbed a far longer, slimmer wooden sword she had stashed at the top. It looked fairly worn and in need of polishing, but was still in excellent shape.

"First, in a proper duel you bow to your opponent. This is not true if you're running around and slicing off everyone's head at random. No, this is how those of old battled for honor. Your first stance, and always your base so don't freaking forget it, is with your feet separated and in line with your shoulders." To emphasize what she meant, Ary got into the perfect stance with her sword up and protecting her vital areas.

"Also, never EVER do an overhead strike. It leaves you wide open. Next, always protect yourself for any opening you leave will result in your opponent stabbing and killing you," she added, swinging lightly and connecting gently with Aludra's wooden sword.

"As for everything else, it just takes practice to figure out a style you like. Obviously, it's mostly flailing around pieces of wood. Any questions before we begin the actual part that involves said flailing and possible injuring?" Ary asked with a smirk. Ooh, the beginning was always boring but the actuality of getting to whip another was positively thrilling to her. Then again, most destructive things were.

Aludra smiled a bit at the comment about his sister's teacher not knowing anything and chuckled a bit, nodding in agreement. Yeah, he probably wasn't quite the best of the teachers, given the fact that he thought teaching someone how to flail around until they hurt someone was proper teaching. Then again, Adhi's tentacles had learned well in that class- they'd managed to stab him in the side with a throwing dagger and, from what he heard, damaged him pretty bad. He also respected the fact that this teacher had wooden weapons.

'Maybe a bit smarter,' he thought to himself sarcastically, already deciding that he was glad to have gotten this teacher.

He nodded along with the information he was given, attempting to mimic her stance as best he could with the brief preview he was given, not really the best at doing so, not that that was much of a problem given it was his first lesson. "No questions," he assured her as he took a slightly off version of the stance that she'd shown him, a bit nervous but also extremely excited.

"Good enough for a beginner," Ary replied, taking a step forward and lightly swinging at the wooden sword Aludra held. "Always block incoming attacks, least you find yourself staring at your severed neck or something," she added as they connected. "Never allow yourself to be backed into a corner and always leave yourself an opening for retreat. That is, unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing." Taking a couple steps back, her sword quickly shot up and took on a defensive stance.

"Now, try and hit me," she added tauntingly, sword tip making small circles as she appraised him. Yup, definitely had some sort of strange scent she couldn't quite place. Then again, he spoke in third person which was rather odd as well... "And I'm not quite as breakable as you think, so don't worry about injuring me," the female commented, shifting her weight slightly to give her an advantage when pushing the younger spawn back and making a retaliation.

Aludra automatically tensed when the sword was swing toward him, and slightly more when it tapped against his own, not wanting to let it call against his shoulder, well knowing -at the very least- that that would be unintelligent to do no matter how good you were. He continued nodding to her comments, though his sword pushed out a bit accidentally when the weight was suddenly gone from it.

He blinked at her stance and felt awkward at the instruction, well knowing he was going to make an a** out of himself and not in the least looking forward to that fact. It seemed that no matter what, he wound up doing something stupid, and each time that happened just stacked until he got so deep in all of it that he ended up wallowing in a rather pathetic, self-centered form of depression. But that wasn't happening yet. Who knew, maybe he would be good at this.

Giving an honest effort, he swung the sword, though the movements were awkward given he was trying to do it with his right hand over his left despite the left being dominant, making his control over the hunk of wood less than it could be. He'd been under the impression that it was a form that was unchangeable for handedness. Frowning at the minimal impact against the other 'blade', which was also much lower than he'd wanted it to be, he looked toward the woman. "Should he switch hands? Is left-handed, so didn't know if it would be easier the other way. Or correct."

Ah, so that's why it was so... awkward looking when he swung. "Yes, you should for now. As you become more skilled, you can learn with the other hand and switch between them easily no matter which hand is your dominant one," Ary replied, instantly switching her grip to favor her left hand instead.

"Now, next time you swing, keep a steady hand and aim for the middle of the sword. Aiming for the tip or base will just result in your blade flying elsewhere whether through sliding off the end or being yanked away," the female commented, gently pushing Aludra's sword back and slowly showing Aludra what she meant with her left hand. "You can practice at home with broom handles and chairs. Easiest, and cheapest," she added and pulled away, taking the same stance as before.

"Now, try again and keep that hand steady and strong. Aim for the middle," Ary warned, waiting for the inevitable swing.

Aludra smiled a bit, glad that he was able to actually do this differently, and readjusted himself, feeling more comfortably with his left hand in more control. The very tip of his tail flicked back and forth like a cat's in anticipation, following his teacher's movements with his eyes and nodding. Preparing himself from that position and taking a deep breath, he actually managed to swing with a decent amount of force into the middle of his teacher's blade, although his stance has twisted a bit, making him an obvious bit more awkward.

He stumbled slightly and smiled a bit, standing up more properly afterward. "Was good?"

"Better, but nothing a bit of practice can't cure. Keep your stance fluid and straight. Twisting will only throw off your balance," Ary replied, glad that he was at least learning quickly. If she had been stuck with a slow learner... Yeah, that might not have ended well.

"Now, try again and this time keep it fluid and straight. I'll show you a parry, or basic blocking and such once you get this down. Not very hard, but it is a few more stances to remember. Oh, and keep your knees slightly bent, it helps when taking a hit and delivering one," she continued, preparing herself for the attack and for a little surprise of her own. The female could only wonder if he was a natural and would know exactly what to do if she, say, went after him instead.

Aludra nodded, retracing his steps and re-performing the action without the force behind it, testing to see how he could do it more properly and nodding decisively to himself before pulling the wooden sword back once again and listening to his instructions.

When it was to do nothing more than he'd done originally, but more properly, he returned to the starting position, re-gripping with his fingers and taking a breath. He was still getting used to this at all, as well as trying to make sure he didn't embarrass himself too bad, so it still took him a moment to prepare himself. Once again, he swung the weapon hard, this time actually turning properly with the movement and smiling softly to himself as the connection was in the exact place he'd wanted, as well as having a decent amount of force behind it.

Perfect. Ary's blade twisted and pushed Aludra's back a bit just enough for hers to disconnect and be free to retaliate. Twisting a bit, she brought the sword up to lightly tap his side.

"Now, I'll show you a parry to avoid a situation like this. There's three stances that you have to remember that help protect three important area's; the side, the torso, and the head area. I'll leave that one till last, as it's the least used by my standards anyways," she replied, backing up to give the spawn some space while she performed the various parries for him to copy.

"First is the base parry, much like your standard block. It protects your side from low blows and sets up for the midsection parry," she continued, holding her sword so that her arm was close to her hip, extended slightly and curved so that the blade protected her left side.

"Basic position, as usual, and the most attacked for obvious reasons. Now this-" the female shifted her stance and backed up even more so as to not hurt him. Slowly, she brought the sword up and across her body, looking almost like she was mimicking a windshield wiper. "-parries attacks aimed at the midsection."

Aludra jumped slightly anything offensive from the teacher, managing to at least somewhat predict her movements. Both arms arched over his head to come with the top of the sword faced down on one side of his body, barely blocking the other's 'attack', if that was what it would be called. Not that it didn't leave him open for attack from someone else, but at least he'd tried given this was his first lesson.

Nodding, he moved his arms back to the starting position that he'd been shown, following each different move with close-to-perfect accuracy. After all, he'd wanted to learn to do this for a long time. As such, he was really, really happy that he was able to learn it and would therefore try really hard to do as good as he possibly could. When she'd reached the last one, he returned to the main stance and moved from that to each one of them, making sure that he had them set into his memory before nodding decisively. "Go on."

"And to parry attacks at your head, hold your sword so it's flat and level with your forehead," Ary explained, holding the sword up and showing Aludra exactly what she meant. The blade lay completely flat with her wrists and elbows bent. Her body even twisted slightly to help accomodate in case the attacker was stronger than her. Psh, like that would ever happen.

"Also, remember that with easy parry, you can counter quite easily while your opponent's balance is off," she continued, her blade gently pushing off an imaginary sword and quickly coming down to take a swipe at the belly of her fake opponent. "When parrying off to the side, you would do the same thing by pushing away their blade a bit and taking a swipe at their ribcage. Now, want to try a mock fight or go through the different positions one more time?" she asked, anxious to get started on some actual fighting.
