Late autumn and Macha knew winter would bring her many hardships so she tried desperately now to hunt and consume as much as she could before the winter came and the cold weather would kill off much of her prey as well as it’s food source driving them into hibernation, the warmth of their dens or migratory lands.

Her parents had been lone wolves without a pack to call home and the security that a pack would have provided ultimately lead to their deaths and also to her orphanage. Macha however was a feisty female, independent and very capable of caring for herself, the life she had been born into requested this strength. She was an older pup, now bordering upon adolescence but her size, strength and knowledge only allowed for her to tackle smaller prey.

She looked about in caution before bending down and tearing at the rabbit she held pinned between her forepaws, bringing her head back up quickly with a piece of flesh dangling out her mouth, she gulped the still warm meat downwards. Licking her lips she prepared to lower her head once again to feast upon the morsel and then stopped as a scent came to her nose.

Nostrils flaring she knew it was another wolf, an adult and much larger than herself. Natural instincts kicked in and her hackles rose from the base of her head right down her spine to the base of her tail. Her bloodied lips curling in a silent snarl before bending down to pick up the rabbit corpse in her mouth, at all times keeping her eyes up, scanning the surrounding terrain. She backed up slightly into a thicker part of undergrowth and crouched down low to the ground.

Haku had always had a soft spot for pups. Ever since his own turning to adult, and even in his first pack, he was happy to take them in to help protect them. So when his nose caught a young wolf as the winds changed, he allowed his curiousity to get the best of him and trotted off to see who he could find.

The orange and black wolf was rather large for his size, but no means fat and instead built like a vicious Alpha normally was. He just did not have that dark personality unless he absolutely had to.

He caught the scent of blood and had to admit he was impressed. It wasn't exacvtly a small amount, so the pup had to be good at hunting.

He barely caught the other long enough to see her dart into a protective area. His head tilted a little at the other and he looked rather amused. "I'm not going to eat you, pup. I'm not that kind of wolf." He stated with a strong voice, once that held authority. But underneathe that tone was a hint of softness, as he did not want to scare her. "I will not pick at your huntings, either. Such a thing does not show honor."

He took a few steps closer then stopped, taking a seat to show he was not about to chase her down. "I am an Alpha of the territory you are about to stumble upon. You're rather young to be out here on your own."

The orange and black wolf had spotted her and he came in close to her announcing that he meant her no harm. Her hackles bristled further with anger at herself, she had been to slow to conceal herself in the undergrowth, she could be in trouble now had the other wolf had ill intentions. As is was she had been lucky. The flash of anger fogged her head for a moment, but it soon clearer and she tired desperately to hold in a snarl as he came closer still, though the urge subsided as he sat himself down.

Macha rose from where she was crouching her black endless eyes absorbing in the sight of the giant male in front of her, an alpha. She had never seen such a large male before, her father from living a life as a lone wolf was smaller in size, the life he and his mate lead would have been harder. But as soon as her eyes had had her fill the words he had just spoken dawned on her and she snapped at him, 'Too young to be on my own? My parents are dead what would you suggest?'

Her eyes narrowed with rage and she curled her bloodied lip to show a row of white needles in the roof of her mouth, still the rabbit was pinned between her forepaws, the sight itself speaking for itself, 'I am old enough to feed myself, I need no protector.' Of course a pup alone as she was, would find an incredible amount of hardships in life and would benefit from a guardian, but Macha was above all, feisty, so this reasoning was pushed aside by the strongest part of her personality.

It was hard not to find amusement in the way this pup behaved before him. He would not laugh at her, though, as that would be a rude thing indeed. She was a brave little thing, growling and an Alpha who could easily rip her to shreds.

Most would be offended and merely decide to sacrfice this pup, but Haku was not most wolves. He felt no need to harm a pup who merely wanted to show her own strength. She obviously felt the need to show that she could protect herself, and would try even against a wolf such as himself.

"Life is not about to feeding yourself," Came his calm tone, onyx eyes watching her with curiousity. "A guardian would be good for you, pup. You would do than more surviving. You would actually live."

His right ear was twitching endlessly, as it had ever since he was a pup. "Strength isn't always proving you can live on your own. Sometimes it has to deal with having the strength to accept that you need help." He sort of sounded like an old wise wolf at that point, which he hadn't really intended. But it would be such a pity if this pretty little pup lost her life because she was too stubborn to admit that she needed help.

The snarl remained as she spat at the male, 'My name is Macha, not Pup.' But as he carried on she listened and reason slowly began to dawn on her. Her parents had been lone wolves and their lives had been a constant struggle, even as adults so she knew the alpha was right. She let her lip unfurl and she looked at him with endless black eyes, curiosity now clear upon her face and she tilted her head for added effect. She wanted to be strong, he said strength came with admitting she needed help, but if she needed help how would that show strength. The contradiction confused her, this clear on her face.

So in confused curiosity she released her rabbit and edged closer to the male. 'I need help?' She shook her head, no she was strong, 'I want help.' She declared and then frowned and stared at the male, her eyes widening releasing what she had just said and she bit her lip scared at what else she'd say.

Haku's maw tugged into a grin when he heard her words. "You are indeed a very strong wolf, Macha. In time you will learn that love, family and trust makes you even stronger. They bring out your inner wolf in a way that no other can. Your heart makes you the strongest wolf."

This he truly believed, as there was no time he was stronger than when he was defending his pack. It was the fact that he refused to do anything except make sure they were all right, no matter what else he had to sacrfice. Including himself.

"Come with me. You will be given a den and regular meals. In return, you will be expected to train and learn other another pack member." He stared into her gorgeous eyes and smiled once more. "This pack member will show you how to bring out your true strength. You will also have protection in the cold nights of the winter, where most wolves perish. You will be kept safe from beasts and wolves that take advantage of pups like yourself."

Macha listened to the alpha's words and she nodded her head harshly in agreement and then verbally accepted his, 'Okay, I will come with you and learn to become strong.' She knew this was the best idea, even if she was a bit hesitant in allowing someone else to guide her though life, but the male seemed old and she trusted he knew how to stay alive if he had lived this long. Macha looked down at her chest where the crow's claw hung and she remembered the promise she had made to herself.

Endless eyes looked back at the alpha and a collection of his words dawned on her, she'd be given regular meals, her eyes widen and she lowered herself to the ground in a split second, trying to cover the rabbit corpse she had left behind her as she had come closer to the male and she scrambled backwards until she held the rabbit in her forepaws once again. She looked back up at the male and her eyes narrowed suspiciously before she took a quick bit of the meat as her stomach demanded it of her.

Gulping the flesh down like a gull she stared up at onyx eyes, 'What is your name?' She demanded. Macha was a creature that lived for the moment and being at a young age her thoughts came out her mouth before she had really thought them through.

She was definatly cute, the way she scrambled about and acted suspicious that he would steal it from her despite his words. He watcher her munch on the meat before giving a small smirk.

"My name is Haku, and you will need to learn to show respect for the one that is providing so much for you." There was a lot to be taught to this young female, as he figured that her parents had not able to do too much teaching.

"Let us go. There is plenty of deer and boar in the storage den." Without any hesitance, the large male moved forward and lifted the pup by her scruff, carrying her off towards the main dens of the territory. He was gentle with her, making sure that she wouldn't be in too much pain. This was a way of showing dominance and the fact that despite her strength and resistance, she would behave and listen to the words he had to say.

He set the pup down outside of the food storage den and nudged her hind end with his nose. "Go. Get your fill. When you are finished we shall discuss who you will shadow for training."

Haku, Ha-ku, she sounded the words in her head and she smiled at him. Ha-ku, Ha-ku, ku, ku, coo ku, coo kuu, she sounded in her head, making the noise of a cuckoo over and over. Though the simple entertain was drawn to an end when he rose and came at her. She lowered herself to the ground, protecting her kill and her lips began to curl again, her hackles rising. Though this was no use as the male proved his dominance by simply plucking her from the ground and hosting her into the air by the scruff of her neck.

She snarled in protest and tried twisting about to lash out at him, but the skin about her neck tighten in his grip as she did so and his teeth dug in deeper, she whined while was followed with a growled of annoyance. A deep frown formed upon her brow and she hung dejectedly from the scruff of her neck. Hanging like a dead weight, trying in vain to annoy the male, did not prove worth while either, once again tightening the skin about her shoulders and causing her to whine before holding herself correctly once again.

As the male set her down nudging her forwards she stumbled slightly before spinning about to glare up at him, her maw twisting in fury as if she wanted to snap vicious words up at him but she held them in. 'I was quite happy with my rabbit.' she thought, her lower jaw thrust out into a sort of sulky pout. 'I don't want anything, now... thank you,' she added almost as an after thought. She shook herself, trying to straighten out her coat once again and shivering slightly at sensation of damp fur on her neck. Her mind focused on what he had to say once again, forgetting the way in which he had just commandeered her. 'What sort of training?' She tilted her head to one side curiously. 'Can't you train me, Cuckoo?' She smiled mischievously up at him, a sparkle dancing upon her black eyes.

"Training with your strength, Macha." When he heard the nickname, he was tempted to laugh. She was a mischievous one, wasn't she? He wouldn't get offended, though he had a feeling that was what she was shooting for. Eventually she would forget the nickname, anyway.

"You must be shown the ways of a pack. Who to show respect, how to hunt as a family, and the importance of being in one." He tilted his head a little.

"I suppose.. that is an option. There are many others worthy, as well. A very pretty female who has been gifted by humans, a stubborn female who still holds Beta position despite her scrawny outside. Even a few males.. My strong Beta Male, HanGeng.. My hunting Captian. My boarder patrol specialist. It really depends on what you want, young one, this is something that you should decide."

He felt bad that the other got so frusterated at him for taking her from her catch, but he did indeed need to show her that he was a dominant male and she would eventually need to have a submissive personality towards him. He had to earn her respect, though.

Macha listened carefully as Haku listed all the potential wolves with whom she could train. The 'pretty' female gifted by humans interested her, she wanted to know how she had been gifted by them. Also the female beta, why would Haku have a scrawny female for a beta? She must have something special other than physical strength to have earnt such a position and she wanted to know what that was. But for some reason, while she was young and boisterous all Macha was interested in was becoming physically stronger and a deadly killer.

Strength of mind; she would learn that this was important as she grew and noticed something lacking and the perhaps she'd seek out the female's of the pack then. But for now she bellowed out, 'I want to hunt and be strong.' She puffed out her chest and stared up bravely at Haku her eyes unrelenting.

He nodded his head a few times and moved to look around. Turkish would probably not want a shadow.. He was busy protecting and looking after Sockets.

"Then I will put you in the capable paws of HanGeng." He nodded his head a few times. "He is much like me.. a lot of muscle with a strong heart behind it. I trust that you will listen and respect him as you should, Macha." He moved, expecting the young female to follow him. He felt that carrying her would upset her more than prove a point this time.

After a short trip to the Beta's den, he smiled as the large silver wolf moved forward to greet him. "HanGeng. This is Macha. She will be your shadow and you will teach her the important keys of hunting, and about true strength. Understood?"

HanGeng nodded his head, turning to examine the pup. She was a pretty little thing, he would have to make sure to take good care of her. Haku had a soft spots for pups from what he'd heard.

"Well, then, Macha, it is quite an honor to meet a pretty young wolf, such as yourself."

Macha listened and nodded in acceptance as Haku turned about and began to walk off. ‘Hey, wait up,’ she felt like calling but she scowled slightly and then ran to catch up. He was so much bigger than her and he ate up a lot of ground even at his steady walk, she had to walk briskly, trotting every few paces just to match him. She looked him up and down as she walked, thinking to herself she wanted to grow strong and big and be able to walk such large distances. She smiled to herself, thinking, ‘I’ll out run him one day.’

She had dropped back a bit, just about to break into a trot when he stopped suddenly in front of the opening of a den and she nearly ran straight into his hind legs. Scowling once again, she looked straight up and tried desperately to resist the temptation to n** the end of his tail. Fighting down the temptation, curiosity broke through her emotions and she peered around his legs to watch a large grey male come out from his den.

She ran out from behind Haku and skidded to a stop next to him and she stared up with endless black eyes at the other male. As Haku addressed HanGeng she looked up at Haku, puffing herself out like a c**k bird at the mention of her name and she looked back at HanGeng. He addressed her now and she blurted out in reply, ‘Hello.’ Then her brow furrowed slightly as she absorbed his words, ‘pretty?’ She’d never been called that before, she looked down at herself and then back up at HanGeng, her frown dissipating and she smiled sweetly at him, her black eyes taking on a sparkle which looked as though distant stars shone within her. ‘Thank you, I liked meeting you too. What will you teach me first?’

Something about the way Macha smiled at HanGeng, the way her eyes glowed.. It bothered the Alpha. He was the one who rescued the pup, who brought her here so she could be taught the important ways of life. HanGeng seemed pleased that Macha was respectful.

The Alpha had not felt emotions like this in a long time, and it made his eyebrows furrow. He had felt sorrow of being alone, the pride of having a pack. But jealousy was not something he ever thought he'd feel again once Lera left him.

"Take care." He stated to the two before moving off to his den.

HanGeng grinned to the young female. He didn't notice that the Alpha seemed put-off about something. Instead, he was paying attention to the young one who would now be his responsibility.

"First, you and I will find you a home here, somewhere that you will be safe and comfortable. Then I will teach you basic defensive skills. If you are ever attacked, these will help you keep yourself safe."

She seemed pretty strong for her size, so it wouldn't be too hard to teach her.

Macha stared up at HanGeng thinking that she couldn't wait to grow up, she hated having to crane her neck to look up at everyone. She was so absorbed in taking in the new wolf who was to be her teacher she didn't notice Haku bidding farewell. She turned to look at him and say goodbye but she only caught him turning away before HanGeng addressed her again and she forgot about Haku, excitement taking over all her other thoughts. 'I will be safe with you.' she declared and then frowned up at him, 'Won't I?' she grinned slightly and added with a mock frown, 'But I don't know if I'd be comfortable, you might have an uneven floor to your den, did you dig it nicely?'

She leant to one side, peering around HanGeng's legs to try and catch a glimpse of his den then she righted herself and smiled up at him. 'Lets go.' She bounced excitedly, the chain about her neck jumping about and clicking, the crows scaled claw tapping on her chin and as she landed again she frowned down at her chest and growled at it silentley, telling it not to hit her on her chin again. Then she stared up at him, tilting her head, 'defensive skills?' she questioned.
