The warmth was welcomed this November morning as the red lion woke, the dim light of twilight eerily casting on the two in some sort of halo. Winter was coming, and regardless of there never being any snow here, what air Tamu’meka breathed still misted his maw. In a couple of hours the day would begin, and both lion and lioness would be faced with the facts. They spent the night together, a heated and yet still comfortable night that neither promised friendship nor love. Ki was in a feverish mood due to her leaving that Pride Land while Tamu simply missed companionship, so it was no surprise for them to have found one another and instantly seek very selfish desires.
Well, perhaps not selfish at all.
The meeting was by chance, and yet it instituted such faith in Tamu as to make him believe she was destined for him. True, they only met the night prior, but he was struck by her beauty and openness. He appreciated her trust, but also yearned for it. Was he in the wrong for that? Hormones were surfacing, some would suggest it unwise to advance her in his weak-minded state, but he was not afraid. Beneath the lust, there was affection and admiration. Tamu seemed to want Ki for more than just her devilishly good looks.
He yawned, barely stretching out in fear of waking the female, while his attempts to fall back to asleep proved futile. The rise of her chest caught his attention, though really she never left his thoughts and prompted him to inch closer. Here, so very close to the lioness, Tamu tilted his head back and from that point on kept his gaze to the stars, sighing to feel the fog cloud his face.
He reminisced on the moment that Ki looked to him with that sweet, sweet smile and then up to these same stars in the sky today. He remembered her words even over the cloud that was yesterdays events, "We can watch the stars together." and smiled. They did just that, resting side by side on their backs while life seemed to stand still.

Ki was young, but she was not stupid nor did she feel she needed anyone... but, with this new male she felt a strong want. Yes, she wanted to be around him, it was as if she had let her worries fade with every word he spoke. He was kind, smart and his words made her heart flutter. She, she wanted to sit here with him... for, well, for forever.
With a soft smile she glanced at him, her blue eyes soft.
"I'd like nothing more than that."
It was true. She felt like she was falling for someone she just met.

Her voice startled him, shaking the male from his thoughts to demand his attention. Head turning while his eyes met hers, Tamu whispered huskily. "Good morning," a bow of his head indicating politeness and formality.
There should be doubt on his mind now, with the female awake and a new day dawning...but Tamu rested reassured by her still idle presence, hoping silently that the lioness intended to stay another night with him.
"I can't say I have had a better nights rest. I slept like a cub." tossing back the frizzy locks of hair from his eyes, Tamu glanced to the horizon again to see the red and orange paint now casting across the sky. A sigh passed his lips, followed closely by several purrs that neither seemed meant for Ki, but only for Ki.
"How was your sleep?"

"Best night's sleep I've had in a long while."
She nodded with a soft smile, her eyes closed as she yawned and rolled onto her side, her paws softly tapping at his side as she smiled at him, in an almost cub like way. If she could blush, she could be doing that right now.
"You kept me warm."
She giggled.

A grin spread like wild fire across his placid face, capturing the essence of his pleasure beautifully. That paw press, those batting lashes...He wanted to lean in and nuzzle the hairs of her chin and flatten out beside her with his head resting on that soft chest of hers.
But for now, he watched.
And responded, "I like knowing I did." Casting a gentler smile her way, Tamu embraced a warm wind with the deep intake of air.
"Ki, you are so beautiful." The words poured like water, but almost with much more ease than that. His eyes closed for the moments when the air ruffled his fur and as he wandered off in mind, the words formed in the darkness behind those shut eyes. As fast as a lion could become, Tamu was flustered and glancing around as if someone had come.
"I--Uhm." He did not want to give her the wrong impression, though surely the night had proved otherwise. "What I mean is...Uhm."
