A small yawn escaped Faatina's mouth as she looked about. It was still sort of early, and quite a few of the more lazy lions were still asleep; but not Faatina. Even though she knew she never had much to do on any given day, she was often up early - Faatina felt that the day would be wasted away if she continued to sleep too long after the sun had come up.
Faatina had been lounging around the more inland dunes of the bay for a while now. She had been unsure of what to do until the others had started to wake up. She glanced around and noticed that more were now milling out than before; certainly a good sign. Tina smiled; she couldn't help but to love seeing the pride up and working. Flicking her tail about, Faatina idly wondered whether or not her family had awoken yet. She knew her parents would be up and doing their part for the pride soon, if they weren't already, but when would her siblings be up? Despite her shyness, she couldn't help but to love the company of her siblings - even if some of them did talk a little too much.

Sahaja padded his way over the dunes. He wasn't too far from his family home, of course, but he was exploring more and more as he got older. It was fun! He hadn't been napping with the others, too busy sniffing around the sand, getting it in his nose, and then playfully swatting at it as punishment. He'd been doing this for a few minutes before he got bored and came to find something more interesting to do.
He had a short attention span, really, but he was young.
"Hey!" He called, bounding up to his sister, who he spotted on a dune. He skidded to a stop, accidentally getting sand on her. "Oops! Hey! Are you awake? Do you want to play?" He asked, flicking his tail. He loved all of his siblings, and was rather out going. He liked to play, all the time, and he liked to laugh and make everyone else laugh.

Faatina's eyes grew wide as she saw her brother bounding toward her. When he skidded to a halt right in front of her, she could feel the sand spay everywhere. Pawing at her eyes a bit, already stinging from the bits of sand that had been flung in, she nodded. "Mhm! Of course I'm awake, and don't I always want to play?" She knew she should probably scold Sahaja, for her eyes still stung, even once she had rubbed them clean, but nobody was perfect, right?
Jumping up from a lying position to one of standing, Faatina smiled at him. She loved her family so dearly, despite their many faults. She especially loved how playful some of her brothers and sisters were - especially in the case of Sahaja. "What'dya wanna play?" She grinned even wider, flicking her tail around in excitement.

Sahaja liked her response: that was the kind of thing he loved to hear. Someone who wanted to play all the time was a person cut from the same cloth as him.
Of course, her being his sister helped in that.
He didn't notice that she had sand in her eyes, bouncing up toward her. He laughed, pouncing her without actually coming up with a game to play first. He just tackled her and made to chew at her back and shoulder, playfully.
"I bet you can't catch me!" he yelped suddenly, pushing off of her, to throw her balance before he ran haphazardly across the sand. He was laughing all the way, not looking back to see if she was actually following or not.

Faatina giggled as Sahaja pounced her, flailing a bit in surprise. Hey!" she attempted to say, but even through her own ears she could hear how the word was distorted by her uncontrollable laughter. When he pushed her down and started off running she was caught by even more surpise, especially when her back hit the sand.
Blinking up at the sun, she quickly jumped up. She thought about what he said and realized what he wanted her to do, and started off running after him. He was already so far ahead of her, but she knew that she'd be able to catch him at some point. She growled playfully at him as she drew nearer. "I'm gonna get you!" she spat out, giggling as she did so. But for some reason this giggling caused her to slip up; one of her back paws slipped out from under her and she felt herself splay in the sand. "Oof!" She shook her head and looked to Sahaja. "Hey!" This wasn't fair! It wasn't fair at all!

Sahaja laughed and laughed as he ran as fast as his little paws could take him. Which, really, wasn't all that fast. But he was certainly having fun, even if he was a rather slow runner.
He was sure to get a bit better at it as he grew. Anyway, he was getting lots of practice!
She was fast. Damn it!
"No you're not!" he yelled in his own defense. He was not going to let her catch him if he had anything to say about it. He came to an abrupt stop when he noticed she had fallen. He looked back at her, debating running and going back to help her. He took a few bounding steps away, but his impulse to be nice got the best of him and he ran back to her.
Nudging her shoulder with his nose, kind of shoving her to her feet, he scoffed. "That wasn't my fault!"

Extremely glad she had such a caring brother, Faatina laughed. "I know, I know," she said after being half-forced up by Sahaja. Grooming her fur half-heartedly, she smiled at him. "Thanks, and..." She hesitated for a moment, debating whether or not to - and her competative-sister side kicked in, and her grin widened. "And, tag!" She shouted at him, quickly flicking him in the face with her tail and starting off at a sprint.
As she was running, Faatina couldn't help but feel sort of guilty; it was kind of like cheating, and her kind heart didn't take well to that. But, he did it first, right? She definitely hoped that justified her actions - it was, after all, making her feel better about it.

Sahaja stayed close to make sure she hadn't damaged anything irreparably, because he was just that good a guy. He was surprised, then, when his caring attitude was used against him and she tagged him he looked betrayed. The expression was soon lost, however, when his face split into a big grin.
"HEY," he yelled with a laugh, darting after her, "you cant' do that, that's cheating! You're still it! You're still it!"
Even though he was yelling it, he continued to chase her like he was it. He was pretty sure he still was, but maybe if he could trick her he could pass it on and he'd be out of the hot seat. He didn't mind being it, of course, because it was a good excuse to just run around like a crazy kid.
Which was one of his hobbies.

Laughing as she continued to sprint across the dunes, Faatina began to shake her head. Then, realizing he probably wouldn't notice her head being shaken as it was, she called out; "Nuh-uh! You're it! You didn't have to come back to check on me!" She giggled to herself. wiping away the pang of guilt that had come as she spoke those words. It was true, of course, but it didn't change the fact that she'd used Sahaja's kind personality against him. But she felt that it was the risk he'd taken on himself by checking back on her, making sure she'd been alright, as a brother should.
Faatina loved running like this; feeling reckless, the sand splaying out from behind her paws. Even so, this didn't stop her from soon becoming tired, her breaths growing shorter and shorter. She could feel herself subconsciously slowing, trying to preserve energy, but she knew she needed to keep going, to stay out of Sahaja's reach...

Sahaja would just have to prove to her that he didn't need to cheat to get her back, that was all. No big deal! He could catch her and tag her and be the winner.
Was there a winner in tag?
He didn't care, he would win anyway.
He was determined and ignored the fact that his paws were hurting and his chest was burning. He had to catch up to her. But by the time he did he was puffed out, and he didn't want to even tag her. He panted, shaking his head.
"Okay, you win," he said, plopping down into the snow. One loss didn't mean anything, after all. He would just win extra hard next time. For now, he wanted a nap. His attention span was a bit fickle, and when he changed his focus he quickly forgot about how determined he had been just moments before.

As soon as she heard Sahaja's words of defeat, Faatina skidded to a stop, splaying snow and sand everywhere. "Good!" She exclaimed, turning on her heels and heading back towards him. She needn't walk far, as he'd been pretty close to catching her, but she still didn't want to have to shout to talk to him. Once at his side, she flopped down and sighed. "Thanks; I was getting so exhausted!"
Yawning for effect, Faatina smiled. The fact that she'd won wasn't the reason she was smiling; she was just happy to have such an awesome family. Placing her head on her paws, she glanced over at him. "What now?"

Sahaja snorted, tired out as well. He shook his head.
"I don't know," he said, shrugging as he flopped onto his side near her. "Maybe a nap? Naps are good. Or maybe there's food back home..." his stomach grumbled in response to the idea and he hummed contentedly.
Food was always good.
"Then maybe when I've eaten something I can beat you. I'm pretty sure you only won because I'm hungry." He nodded. That had to be it.

Faatina smiled and nodded, her own tummy feeling quite empty as well. She could almost swear she heard it grumbling. She longed for the taste of freshly killed meat settling into her belly, filling it to the brim. Raising herself on all four paws, she giggled. "I want food too, but..." she shook her head, now looking down at him, teasing. "But I'm pretty positive food isn' t the reason you lost to me. At least, not the only reason. Now c'mon!"
Gesturing her head back toward their home, Faatina waited for Sahaja to get up so they could eat. Her tummy pained at the thought of having to wait much longer for the food she hadn't yearned for 'till now.

Sahaja didn't debate her on why he lost, because he was pretty sure he would lose that too. But if he didn't say anything he could just keep believing what he had said before: he only lost because he was hungry. The fact that she was hungry didn't mean anything. He would still be able to beat her, even if they were both fed.
Yeah, definitely.
He padded along with her, though, nudging her as they walked. He was happy with their game, and with the prospect of food. He would eat, then take a nap, then maybe challenge her to a rematch.
That sounded like a plan to him.
END?
