Getting to know Literacy Levels

Author:Nik Just Nik

So, your all set to go out and start roleplaying! You've got an idea of what genre you want to write in, maybe you've even got an idea of what type of character you want to create. So what do you do? You head on over to Barton Town and start browsing the forums when, whoah! What are these strange adjectives following the forum titles? Lit? Adv. Lit? What is all this nonsense?! You begin to pull out the hair on you forearms and sing pirate shanties in your madness! But fret not! Nik is here to to help you on this strange catagorical issue.

What are Literacy Levels?

So, down to the nitty-gritty (you'll see that I start alot of paragraphs with 'so'. It is because I lack proper paragragh creating creativity). A literacy rating basically informs the reader and potential roleplayer of the level of writing skill necessary to participate in the roleplay. Beyond that, the level is also indicative of the amount of time and dedication required to participate in the roleplay. Now, on to what they actually mean!

Basic

"Click...click.. oh, whats this? A roleplay about several teenage strangers locked in a mansion? And is it just me, or is there no adjective following the title that this Nik character warned me about?"

Chances are, you just stumbled upon one of the numerous roleplays out there that are basic in level. With these style roleplays, pretty much anyone can participate. The level of grammer used is.. well, if it is used, it's usually elementary at best. Here you can use all the /337 speak, txt talk, and general bad form your heart desires. These roleplays are also noted for their quick pace and short lives. It's not surpirsing to see roleplays such as .:Mansion of Dark Twilite Werewolf Naruto Fan Girl Slaves:. to grow from 3 to 256 pages in a matter of hours.
My personal recomendation is to only join these if you are new to roleplay, or if you just have a few hours to burn.
